A midnight stroll
The streets were silent that night in the windy city known as Chicago. But that didn't mean everything was fine. The grey sky loomed overhead as Mockingbird stood on the rooftop over her glass apartment building. Her cape blew out to the side in the wind that passed by. Kneeling down on one knee, she raised her hand to her ear and tuned the police radio interceptor to find somewhere to help. "I repeat, we have an officer down on 52nd street! Send help! Ple-AHHHHH!" Came a desperate voice through the device in her ear before it got cutoff by gunfire. No doubt the officer had been shot like his partner had. Standing upright, Mockingbird sprinted towards the edge of the building, opened her arms so that the "wings" her cape formed would allow her to glide between the magnificent skyscrapers of the city.
The black figure gliding down the street came up behind the criminals closing in on the cops at 52nd street. There were five guys surrounding the two men. They were still alive but seemed to have been shot in the legs. The first crook felt his legs leave from beneath him and the sharp pain of a Bo Staff stabbed into his rib cage. The other crooks turned to her, pistols and knives drawn. Shit! She thought to herself as she dived towards a thug with a pistol in his hand. It was one of the officers pistols, obviously stolen off of him. The man tried firing but was met by her staff. the Pole made contact with his arm and snapped the gun out of his hand. Grabbing his head, she smashed it into the red, brick wall of the building. Tapping the button on her wrist, activating her suits built in durability booster.
The bullets that came flying at her bounced off of her newly energized armor. It wouldn't last too long though but it would make this fight a lot easier. Noticing the steel pipe coming at her head from the side, she raised her hand to grasp it. The pipe stopped in her palm and she pulled it from the mans grasp. Smashing it into his side, she did a jump spin hook kick to knock him over before stomping on his face.
The next man with an assault rifle was met by the but of his gun when it smashed into his cheek. The final man came at her with a punch towards her stomach. Ducking under it, she moved up, grabbed onto his lower arm and twisted it. The man screamed in pain and went down to the ground.
Leaning over the officers she checked their pulses and was about to call an ambulance when she heard sirens just down the street. Taking off silently, she sprinted down an alley before skidding to a stop a few streets over. The only other person on it was some guy on the other side of the road.

Re: A midnight stroll
*Ahemn.* was the sound of a man clearing his throat. He stood at a lovely six foot five inches, his lean, yet muscular form blending into the shadows. His dark, tailor-maid suit helped with the camouflage. The street lamps, flickering due to the dance club hogging the electricity to this street, did bring a bit of light to the ghostly pale man. His facial features were striking, along with his cerulean hues. A firm set of lips, red, were puckered around of a clove cigarette. His ebony tresses brushed against his seemingly waxed brows.
A sharp inhale made the burning end of his ebony cigarette light up. His chest expanded, the unbuttoned jacket he wore shifting lightly from a breeze. He was standing alone, watching a group of men harass two police officers. He was contemplating even bothering with the situation with a clothed figure came from nowhere. Black. All black, alike to him. This intrigued him. He couldn't help but notice the feminine structure the black suit outlined. This made him watch with interest, his hand fishing into his too-tight-pants-pocket to pull out his metal cigarette case. He let the burning end of his cancer stick tap the metal case, bringing his treat to an end. He placed the half smoked morsel within the case and pocketed his prize.
With his right foot tapping the sidewalk, he couldn't help but bring up his hands and clap. The sound reverberated off of the buildings, making the sticky dark night even more eerie. And, another ominous ring was a bit of lightning that licked the gray sky. The rolling thunder that followed made things even more interesting. A light rain started to kiss the paved streets of Chicago generously. Nathaniel could only smile and allow himself to walk, following the dark heroin as if he was joining her for a midnight stroll.

Re: A midnight stroll
The sudden realization that there was lightning made Mockingbird jump a little. The large bolt of electricity streaked through the grey sky and seemed to bring down a curtain of rain. It started out slow but slowly grew in intensity. The droplets of water dripped off the end of her hood, landing on the top of her lower face mask that covered the bridge of her noes to her chin. The ominous sound of thunder seemed to make the rain push harder to get to the ground. Lucky this thing is water proof. Mockingbird thought to herself as she pulled out her grappling gun.
The Spear-like end pierced through the edge of the roof and opened up like a flower petal to keep itself stable. Attaching it to her belt, the cable pulled her up to the top of the roof, away from any onlookers on the street below. Standing on the rooftop with the moon behind her, she shot the grappling gun at a taller building opposite the one she stood on. The spear-like head once again opened like a flower to give itself the stability to pull her across. She attached it to her belt once more. The contraption int he belt distributed the weight more evenly so the cable didn't snap. It wasn't a weak cable for sure but Mockingbird didn't want any accidents.
Her cape had sprung open from the magnetic charge sent through it. The way it came open made it look like she was actually flying across the gap and tot he other roof. Instead of continuing to grapple across the rooftops, Mockingbird decided on a different approach. Running at full speed towards the ledge, she jumped across the relatively small gap and her gloves stuck to the opposite, glass building. She climbed her way to the top of the majestic building. It wasn't as tall as most skyscrapers, it was quite small by comparison as a matter of fact.

Re: A midnight stroll
Nathaniel watched as the girl pulled out some kind of gun. His keen sense of hearing picked up the sound of a click and a woosh. He smiled and watched as the girl was lifted from the ground toward the towering heights of a scraper. A smug grin plastered his lips, ruggad facial hair becoming misted by the rain. His hair was a slight mop, along with his clothes. He didn't mind, though. Rain was one of his most favorite types of weather.
Another crack of lightning followed by that roaring thunder sent a small shiver down Nathaniel's spine. He wondered why a woman would go out of ones way to do so much good. He blinked away some rain and slipped off his jacket. It fell to the sidewalk, a puddle of shadowy black. His black button up and crimson tie were all that clothed him, along with his black slacks and leather shoes. He, harnessing the ability to fly, allowed his hidden wings a chance to stretch.
A ripping sound was muffled to only his ears underneath the rain and thunder. Black wings littered with bloody feathers caught the street lamps and with a single pump, he was lifted from the sidewalk, the only sign of his existence a feather, and his jacket. The feather was so black, it resembled a common raven. No one would believe it were from just a hexed angelic figure.
The wings, happily stretching to their full length enjoyed the rain, gently coating his wings. The feeling was spectacular. The wind that he pushed through made his hair slick back, water coating his face. Before the black dressed woman could ascend to the top of the scraper she jumped to, Nathaniel was standing, crouched, his hand outstretched toward her. He allowed his face to hold no emotion. A bolt of lightning lit up everything around of them, the reflection from the windows bringing quite the shine to those bright blue orbs of his.
"Need a hand?" he asked, simply and politely. His wings ruffled, stretching again before folding behind of him. The long, inky feathers brushed the roof top, his feet keeping him grounded to the rooftop's ledge. He definitely did look like he had just came out of a little girl's dreams, may they be twisted dreams, it didn't matter. This image was one to last forever.

Re: A midnight stroll
"AHHH FUCK!" Mockingbird shrieked and toppled over backwards, surprised by the presence of a winged man in front of her. She was panting a bit heavily at first from the fright. What the hell is he? A guy with wings, you don't see that everyday. He might be friendly, maybe you should talk to him. But he also might not be. Just ask. No! Just ask already. No, what if he isn't so friendly what then? Then we fight him or run away. All these conflicting thoughts were swirling around in her head.
"Who are you?" She asked, not trusting for now. Why would she trust him? He had just flown onto a rooftop. And how many peoples have wings? She may not know much about guys but she knew they didn't have wings. That would be ridiculous. "What are you?" She pressed on, drawing her Bo staff from her back in case he wasn't so friendly and this was all just an act. He may have been polite about it, but Mockingbird didn't trust strangers who just come by. The bo staff was under her armpit in a way that didn't look like she was being offensive but if needed would be easy to defend herself against any attacks he may throw at her.

Re: A midnight stroll
A light chuckle found its way rumbling from Nathaniel's chest, past his lips, and into the sweet rain kissed midnight. He couldn't help but smile and shake his head at how startled he had made her. He was a bit confused though. Was it him, or was it just his wings? He had not a care in the world. This girl was definitely amusing. "Need not to worry.. I'm no harm." A pain filled his chest while the slight anxiety the girl was feeling struck him. It gave him a chance to feel the emotion she was feeling. He was now prepared mentally to approach this situation calmly.
"I am no threat, I assure you..." He couldn't help but smile and gaze upon the masked girl. So dark, mysterious, yet so.. timid? No. Not really timid.. just, questioning. Nervous, mayhaps. His pearly whites were caught by a bright flash of that marvelous lightning. A violent thunder crashed through the heavens, making everything around of them tremor. He couldn't help but laugh at that. "Don't you just adore storms? They're full of so many different feelings." He spread out his arms, his wings mocking the motion. He took a step toward the girl, or woman, whichever, and let his wide Cheshire shrink.
He allowed his soft cerulean hues a chance to rest behind of damp lids. His lashes kissed his unshaven cheeks and then fluttered back open. His wings took to rest, folding against his back while he placed a hand into his pocket and let the other fall to his side. "What you did back there was impressive.. I was just about to step in and help." He stated, calmly. He was hoping she would catch on and become aggravated with him for just standing by while two officers were shot right in front of him. Maybe she would, maybe she wouldn't. Only "God" knows.

Re: A midnight stroll
"No, I hate storms. Storms are violent, destructive, annoying, bothersome, loud." Mockingbird told him, slightly weary of him still. Still keeping her distance, she circled him for a moment. He may have said he meant no harm but people could lie. "Thanks." She was unsure whether this meant he was there and ignored the situation or if she just stepped in a few seconds before him. Her Bo Staff was still in front of her but she lowered it a little bit while her other hand ran through her blonde and brown hair under her hood as some of it was coming down onto her face. "So, why are you following me?" She asked, she wasnt taking until she had all the answers. "Whats up with the wings?" Pressing on a bit more, her expression never changed. But its not like it mattered, he couldnt see her lower face due to the mask anyways.

Re: A midnight stroll
He rose a brow and sighed. Didn't like storms? How sad. Why stand out in one, then? "Pity. Rain is a very cleansing tool. It's said that whispers of love and hope are carried by the wind and washed onto the sinners of this planet by the rain.. Or something like that." He shrugged, his baritone timbre just barely audible. The tone was alluring and surely did draw more attention toward him from the girl with brown hair, ruined by blonde streaks. He made a mental note to somehow picture the hair without the blonde. He disliked blonde hair, and many things resembling that platinum white.
"Following you? Pah!" He laughed, his muscular frame shaking and being pronounced by his sleek black shirt clinging to his torso. "It is merely coincidence that I am here and you are here. But, we can call it fate or destiny, if you wish." He allowed a Cheshire grin to curl his lips, a hum passing over his tongue to lace with the wind. He lifted his left hand, digits curling amongst his black mess of hair. It draped just above his shoulders, the shaggy mess falling into his eyes. He sleaked it back and allowed his wings to spring open, casting a shadow over the mysterious femme, lightning striking around them."What, these old things? They're just for show, and transportation. We can just say they were an inheritance." He couldn't help but stare toward the girl's eyes, wondering what exactly her face looked like. He had only caught a glimpse of her hair, but he still hated blonde...

Re: A midnight stroll
Mockingbird couldnt help but admire his muscular frame. She had never been interested in boys but respected the fact that people worked for their strength. He looked pretty handsome actually. Stupid Hormones, fuck off already. I didnt want boys then, I dont want them now. She thought to herself angrily before asking him a question. "Not following me, eh? Well then, why are you up here on top of a skyscraper with me?" Her eyes wandered up from his chest to his face. "I dont believe in fate or destiny. I believe in free will." Her eyes stared into his for a few seconds before she pulled her eyes away uncomfortably. "Inheritance huh? I can relate." The image of the man with wings was firmly etched in her mind. This was not a moment she would forget easily. "So, do you have a name?" The voice that the winged man spoke with reached out to her hormones like his muscles did. Ignore it, men are just distracting. Mockingbird thought to herself, recounting the boys from school. Most were jerks. Probably because they didnt like having a little girl beating them in every speed based sport and test. Maybe this guy was different but she probably wouldnt get close enough to find out.

Re: A midnight stroll
He felt a shiver run down his spine. Those girly hormones made for a good emotional high to him. He smirked to himself, his mouth falling emotionless. "It may be free will, but despite all the will power in the world, fate still rings Her bell's." He made a wagging motion with his right index finger, his left index and middle making a walking motion. His slender fingers looked long and odd on his hands. They were bony, but his hands looked strong and worn out from labor. Rough, yet soft hands. He could feel her eyes on him, chest, then face. His smile could not hide any longer.
He cracked a small laugh and allowed his wings to flap, shaking water from the feathers. The rain, at first cold, was warm now. It was lightening up. Thunder still cried through the clouds, but lightning had long sense passed by. A few stray drops of water trickled down the bridge of his nose, leaving a small trail of water. He held out his tongue and caught a droplet on his tongue. Sweaty, yet refreshingly good. He rolled the taste around in his mouth, allowing a quirky thought to race through his mind. He let it go and answered her simply. "Nathaniel. My name is Nathaniel."

Re: A midnight stroll
"Nathaniel, nice name." Mockingbird said. The name reminded her of one of the nicer kids during high school. He was one of the few. This conversation was feeling especially awkward for her as she hated talking with boys near her own age. Hormones were what made it awkward for her. All the conflicting thoughts. She wished that she had outgrown all these feelings in puberty which was even more awkward for her while she was in University. After he wagged his finger, she took one step closer. Then another, and another until she was about 3 feet away. She slipped her bo staff onto her back, if this was a trap she could probably stand a fair chance with her hands. He was probably stronger but she may have enough strength to get to her bo staff before he could do much damage. Though she was anticipating it, she hoped it wasnt a trap. She didnt want to fight again tonight. Especially not with someone who can fly across rooftops.

Re: A midnight stroll
Nathaniel nodded in agreement. "Yes, Nathaniel was my mother's name." He smiled and allowed another hearty chuckle rumble his chest. He put a hold on feeling her emotions and just let his eyes try to pick up on what she was feeling. The body language she displayed next was indeed weird. She stepped closer, and not only did the mysterious dark woman step closer, she unarmed herself. The suit she wore was quite high tech, so he was sure if she wanted, she could beat him up. He would let her. She is no threat to his goal in life. He smiled and looked up past her toward the sky. The clouds were slowly drifting apart, the moon, fuller than ever, lighting up this dismal city. The faint glow brought a new light to Nathaniel's soaked figure. He smiled at her, one of his hands out stretched. "Care to dance?" he asked, smiling ever so sweetly.

Re: A midnight stroll
"Um, No thank you. I don`t dance with strangers and even then I don`t know how." Mockingbird informed the man. It was true, she couldn`t dance it wasn`t like she ever got asked. On top of that, why would she dance with a stranger she just met on a rooftop. True, her hormones were acting up, they rarely did but it was annoying when they did. The men she had met were usually fell into three categories, distractions, bullies or the rare nice one. though unsure of which category this man fell into, she wasn`t just going to be dancing with him. Her mind was lost, unsure to trust him or not. But, being a bit paranoid she decided to not trust him. She didn`t want to put her trust in the wrong person.

Re: A midnight stroll
Nathaniel sighed and looked at her, his head tilting from left to right. "Well, since you do believe in free will, I'll just have to dance alone tonight." He began to sway, his wings curling to form the shape of a dress around of a woman. The long feathers swayed and moved freely in the light breeze that hugged the rooftop. He was just humming a simple waltz, the faint sound of thunder being his metronome. He looked at the girl a few times and then moved to her, his wings folding to his back. He took one of her hands into his and placed his free hand along her waist, above the belt line. He was being polite. He kept a good six or more inches from her, as well. He stepped left and made a light tugging motion to have her follow. "I just cannot take no for an answer. After all, you are more of a stranger to me right now than I am to you." He grinned and allowed his left brow to arch in a very sly manner.
