Heat in the Night

Macie bit her lip, staring up at him thoughtfully. "I don't really need it; I can take care of myself." She said, letting herself smile, "But if you would like, and can keep up with me, you're welcome to escort me home."

"Come on." Ed half smiled at Macie, "Just let me walk you home. I just wouldn't feel right letting a beautiful shiela like you walk home all by herself."

"Thanks." Macie blushed a dark shade of pink that was mostly hidden by the low light of the street lamps. 'He called me pretty... That's new..' She thought, smiling up at him again, "And I guess that you could walk me home, if it concerns you that much."

Ed smiled and grabbed Macie's hand again and began walking her, subtly letting her lead him.

Macie let Eduard follow her, not trying to make conversation as they walked, just enjoying the silence and being with someone for once in a few months. After a while, and a few twists and turns, they reached her apartment. She pulled out her set of keys before turning to Eduard. "I had fun tonight. Thanks for taking me out, it sounded like we both needed it."

"Glad you had fun Macie." Ed wlaked up to her door and pulled Macie into a hug. "I'll see ya tomorrow." He held her in his arms for what he thought was an appropriate amount of time. He turned and left her door step with a smile on his face, anticipating the next day.

Macie smiled, and let herself into her apartment. She sort of half waltzed, half limped into her bedroom and collapsed on the bed, not even bothering to remove her clothing as she practically died from exhaustion.

The bright morning New Orleans sunlight woke Macie up the next day, and she peeled herself off of the mattress and had started making coffee before she realised the plans she had made with Eduard. A quick shower and rushing to throw make-up on followed, and Macie lounged around her home for the remainder of the time, waiting for his phone call.

Ed made his way back to his house. After a mile or so of just walking and thinking he radioed Gary to pick him up and teleport him home. They arrived not even a second later. "I got someone for you to meet tomorrow Gary."

"Really? You find a new hero?" Gary asked inquisitively.

"Yeah, a shiela too. I like her mate." Ed spoke with remebrance in his voice, playing the night over in his head.

"Then I'm sure I will too friend." Gary patted Ed on the back and was gone the next instant, returning to his home, allowing Ed to continue his reminiscing.

Ed was anxious the next morning, he didn't really know when to call so he played it safe and called at noon. Nervously, he waited for Macie to answer.

Macie was almost stomping shoe imprints into her apartment's carpet by the time Eduard called. She jumped when her phone started ringing, and hesitated before answering. "Hello?"

Ed sounded excited at the sound of her voice. "Hey shiela. Sorry it took so long to call, didn't really know when was good for ya. You ready to be picked up?"

((BUMP))

"That I am." Macie smiled, and was pretty sure that he could hear it in her voice, "Whenever you get here is great " Of course, this wasn't exactly true. She didn't want to wait any more, and this made her anxious.

"I'll be there soon shiela," Ed said this through a smile, he was glad to finally have a woman back in his life. "I'm gonna try and keep it low-profile so don't expect a limo or anything," Ed chuckled out.

"Alright, just knock when you get here and I'll see you then!" Macie hung up the phone, and leaned against a kitchen counter for a moment before turning to the coffee pot that had started itself automatically a while ago and poured herself a cup. She stared into the black liquid as she waited, then jumped as a knock resounded through the flat. "Coming!" Macie called, flashing to the sink to dump the cup out and rinse it before opening the door.

Ed stood in the doorway, his body barely framed within. A smile stretched across his face when he saw her, truely, unequivocally beautiful. "So are you ready? I can't wait for Gary to meet you."

Macie grinned back at Eduard, "Of course!" She jumped on the balls of her feet lightly, her hair slapping damply against the electric blue eyes that stared into his. "Let's go."
