"Why's that?" Macie asked, stepping closer to him for the dance, and reaching up to place her hands on his shoulders.

"I'm having a good time. You're the first woman I've been out with socially in 11 years." Ed sighed and shook his head "Damn, that sounds pathetic. Let me explain. You see it was 11 years ago, August 11th. My wife was murdered in our home and I just haven't done any real dating. I guess it's partly because I'm afraid I'd always compare the woman to Claire, and that's not really fair to them." Ed sighed again, "And now I'm spilling my guts to a shiela I met just tonight. I'm sorry, I'm probably scaring you off. Let's just dance."

Macie looked at him, compassion showing in her eyes. "I...I'm so sorry. That must have been a horrible experience, being left alone so suddenly." She smiled a little, poking him lightly in the chest. "And don't worry, you probably won't scare me off that easily."

"Probably...that's comforting." Ed placed his large hands on Macie's waist, they covered almost the entirety of her hips. "Thank you for being so understanding Macie. You really made me feel like there is hope for my love life yet."

"That's good," Macie said, swaying slightly to the beat as she looked up at Eduard. "I wouldn't want you to be lonely for the rest of your life, no one deserves that, even if they want it." She smiled grimly, and glanced away.

"Don't feel bad for me. My life's not bad. Even if I never find someone I can love as much as Claire, I still have my memories." Then Ed saw Macie smile and look away in an almost distraught manner, "I didn't stir up bad memories for you did I?"

"Not too bad, thanks." Macie looked back up at Eduard, a stronger, reassuring smile spreading across her face. "I've gotten over it, and don't really wish to talk about it anymore."

"Alright. At any rate I'm glad we went out tonight. Been more fun than I've had in awhile. We'll have to do this again sometime."

Even as he towered over Macie, swaying with her to the music, something felt right about this. He wasn't sure what it was about her, but he felt a connection with this woman. Even if it didn't develop romantically he knew she would become an important person in his life.

"I am too. I needed this probably as much as you, by the sound of it." Macie blushed, "And I would really like to see you again, this was fun."

Macie was lost in thought once more, her blue eyes staring off into the space by Eduard's left shoulder, racing through memories and sparking when it reached this night. It was something newer, something Macie hadn't felt for a long time. Something, consequently, that she would never forget.

Ed could see Macie's mind was racing. After a little while he kneeled down and placed his thumb and index finger on the bottom of Macie's chin, turning her head so that his blue-eyed gaze met hers. "Do you believe in fate?"

"It just feels like we met for a reason. I don't mean this as a cheesey way to try and get into your pants. I mean, I really feel a connection here. Even if it doesn't ever evolve intimately I think we're meant to be impotant n each others lives shiela."
