Fish out of water

Vi walked the streets of Chicago, dressed in casual clothes. She had just got off a plane, which was probably one of the scariest things she ever did. "Mermaids don't belong in the air, they belong on ground or in the water." muttered Vi to herself. She had originally traveled to Chicago because she heard that there was a large body of water near by but so far all she saw were skyscrapers and city streets. It was a bit overwhelming everything being so close together. She was used to the openness of the ocean and beaches, she rarely went past the boardwalks but she was really far in now. "How do people will so close together." asked Vi to herself, dodging between people trying to find a place a bit more open. She felt a bit claustrophobic, like she just wanted to lay down and scream. She began to regret coming here.

He had just gotten back from New York and was finally in Chicago. He went there to get his mind off of Andree, and help his sister with a few things; as per usual. A cigarette was hanging between his lips while he weaved in and out of pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks of the heart of the city. He casually bumped into a few people, and then into a girl that looked so lost and confused. He stopped walking and reached out, touching her shoulder. His wings spread out behind of him, just after he slid his mask over his eyes.

Within this crowd? It was odd having a pair of wings on a grown man that was six feet, five inches tall spread out behind of him. She made a sort of tunnel and the people started walking around of Nathaniel. He finished the last drag of his cigarette and dropped it on the sidewalk, crushing it with the heel of his prada boot. "You look out of place, little sparrow." He said, tilting his head slightly while he sized her up. "Would you like me to escort you elsewhere, madam?" After the breakup with Andree, he was trying to be a helpful person, and if helping a claustrophobic stranger was a good deed, then so be it.

Vi had been standing still in the crowd of people trying to find a way out. People had been running into her, knocking her around like a pinball. Until she felt someone put a hand on her shoulder. Vi turned around quickly and was taken back a bit at the sight. A masked man, towered over her and surrounded her with wings. "Wings..." said Vi slightly shocked. "You have wings..." It took a second afterwards but eventually his question clicked. "Umm... yeah... preferably somewhere open... with water." She was happy that someone was showing compasion and decided to help her instead of just pushing her out of the way.

"God not more flying." said Vi as she was picked up and flown away. She hid her head in her arms. "Don't look down... don't look down." she muttered to herself. She was relieved when they landed and happier when she saw the lake. "I strongly believe people belong on land or in the water, the air is unnatural." said Vi fixated on the lake. The lake was huge, bigger then the pictures showed it to be. "Nothing to special? It's huge, nothing compared to the ocean but still it's huge." marveled Vi. She resisted jumping in, even though she really wanted to. This guy may of helped her but she didn't exactly trust him.

"Water is natural to me, and I doubt you are a better swimmer then i am, not many are." said Vi bragging a bit. "I like water, I feel at home when I'm near it, it calls out to me in a sense. It drives me insane when I'm away from water for to long." Vi walked down to the shore and sat on it, just out of reach of the water. She saw the man 'walk' on water using his wings. He also mentioned how he didn't want to get the his suit wet. She smirked playfully. She put her hands behind her back and motioned them to form a wave in the water at the man. "By the way, I'm Viridiana, but everyone calls me Vi, who are you?" she asked playfully.

Vi smiled as he offered a race. "Alright, but prepared to get your ass kicked." said Vi. She looked around, in the particular part the lake they were at it was just them, it was probably private property. She walked up to the dock next to Nathaniel. She stripped down to her underwear like he was, no used in getting clothes wet. She got up in a race diving position. One he was ready she pointed out a buoy a while out in the lake. "On your mark, get set.... Go!" yelled Vi. She dove into the water, once she was in the water her legs turned into a tail and she sped across the lake and grabbed on to the buoy. She popped her head out of the water to see where Nathaniel was.

((My character is faster then yours in water how did he get there first? but whatever minor detail))

"God more people know about mermaids then they said." said Vi. "How did you know about my kind, so far only 3 people i meet knew about my kind. So spit it out, how do you know of my kind." She splashed her tail on the water impatiently, waiting for an answer. "You know the elder kept saying not many of land folk know we actually exist, we are suppose to be myths for a reason." She paused for a bit. "Also I smell like a mermaid? Is that even possible, and kind of rude. I thought I always smelt nice."

He chuckled and closed his eyes and then grinned wickedly. He showed off his fangs and claws with his head tilting. "I know about your kind because I'm one-thousand-four-hundred-and-eighty-nine years old, my dear. I'm also an Angelic Vampire. And you smell like mermaid because your blood is special." He smirked, his tongue licking at his right canine. He shook his head, however, and chuckled. "You don't smell bad, if I came off as rude, I apologize." He felt a bit bad, so his wings spread behind of him yet again and he lifted himself out of the water and stood there, his wings keeping him atop the water.

"Angelic vampire, is that even possible? Shouldn't you be on fire for being an paradox?" asked Vi. She dropped back down in the water a bit and blew air out her nose creating bubbles. She popped her had back up. "Yes it was really rude." pouted Vi. "And keep away from my neck, my blood isn't on the menu." She wrapped her hands around the sides of her neck, protecting them. She didn't doubt that he was what he said he was. For gods sakes she was a mermaid, something else that was suppose to be a myth. "But really shouldn't you constantly be on fire at the moment. I mean your an oxymoron."

"That still doesn't make sense, your the child of the two personifications of holy and unholy. There should be some burning." defend Vi. She watched Nathaniel flail in the water for a few seconds after he made a really bad joke. She sighed and swam up to him, grabbing on to him and keeping his head above water so he wouldn't drown. "That wasn't a funny joke, so I don't know why your laughing." She ferried him over to the shore and put him in the shallow water and waited for him to stop laughing. She slapped her tail on the water impatiently.
