Talis, the Death Knight Empty Talis, the Death Knight

Post by Talis June 29th 2013, 12:14 pm

Talis
"I have slept for a time uncounted... who are you to rouse me from sleep?"

Basic Biography

Real Name: Talis
Title: Death Knight
Alignment: Evil Lawful
Age: 1571
Gender: Male
Race: Evolved Vampire
Hair: White
Eyes: Red
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 190 lbs
Blood type: AB+

The Looks

A tall, brooding individual with long, silver hair. His face is chiseled, thick. His eyes are narrow and serious, his brow heavy. His expression seems blank. His upper body is well built, a clear V-Shape. His muscles are well toned and highly visible. His appearance overall is attractive, but his cold gaze is off-putting. His red eyes seem lifeless and grip the soul of the one who meets him. His general appearance is of a man in his late twenties.

The Legacy

Personality: A Death Knight's first duty... is to death. Death Knights are a mostly emotionless sect dedicated to the protection of Death, and its wards. To this end, Death Knights are, while un-living, not of the un-dead. They are allies of Death, chosen from among the rank of living, dead, and undead to be guardians of death. Like most Death Knights, Talis stands watch over an ancient cemetery were he has slumbered for years, loyally and with utter dedication attuning his soul-blade to the corpses of the spirits sleeping in the earth. He follows the Death Knight code before all else, which consists of three laws.
1.) The first duty is to the Glory of Death. This demands that all foes the Death Knight faces in battle fall before his blade. He is not to spare anyone, barring special circumstance.
2.) The second duty is to the Sanctity of Death: The Death Knight must control the undead when they rampage, and end all mockeries to death without discrimination. The Death Knight is never to engage in necromancy, or his powers will be lost. The Death Knight is to kill all he encounters who dabble in Necromancy.
3.) The third duty is to the Honor of Death: Regardless of alignment, a Death Knight's word is his bond. It is the most sacred of the three duties. If the Death Knight makes a promise, it is kept no matter what. Even if the Death Knight falls, he would rise again as an abomination to carry out his task until the time had come to an end. However, the Death Knight's honor demands that he repay sleights against him with retribution, and that he repay all kindness paid to him with favors. The only permissible breaking of the first two duties is under oath, and in those cases if the infractions are severe, retribution is more than justified.

Outside of those tenets, Talis' personality is rigid which makes it uncomfortable to interact with him. He is fairly merciless and extremely blunt, not caring for pleasantries and often offending those he talks to. He is capable of emotion but represses it out of duty, only showing flashes of emotion when totally necessary to his mission. He is gruff and stern, highly educated in the occult and unafraid to show it. He also does not hide from view wearing his armor and brandishing his sword in public, seeing mortals as all vainly struggling to escape the inevitability he represents-- the end of the line. Talis is fairly arrogant, seeing himself as he truly is: an embodiment of the wrath of Death.

Traces of Talis' former nobility are still evident. He carries himself regally, and pauses upon observing churches. Theses are reminders to him of a past life that he views as inconsequential. The one thing he does carry however, he keeps hidden in his locket. He once said, before falling into his eternal sleep, that "If my soul rests in my sword, then my heart lays its head in this locket."

History: Along time ago, there lived a nameless Paladin. He was a noble soul, a protector of churches and wielder of holy magic, blessed with an enriching life, loyal friends, and lovely family. A hunter of the evil side of the occult, he had slain many a creature in the name of righteous fury. However, it only took one mistake before our Paladin was bitten and became a vampire. This was what it took for him to lose everything. His family fled from him. His friends hated him. He was hunted by the church as a fiend or an abomination might be. Still, he did not turn his back on his former life.

He hid himself. He craved blood but refused to feed, wasting away under his newly found torment. He refused death, hoping for a proper cure to his affliction. It was then an aspect of true Death approached him, offering him its mercy.

"Pitiful creature that mocks my form, do you pray for salvation from your vampiric form?"

The aspect of Death made him a deal. If the paladin would willingly cast his life away in the light of the sun while clutching his formally holy blade, then he would gain control over his ailments, and regain his life back. The Paladin was desperate but wary. The was no guarantee that it would save him... but every promise that he would die was certain to be kept. With a bitter taste in his mouth he agreed, and the aspect of Death took his hand, becoming as a young girl in form. It lead him to the entrance of the cave in which he dwelled, and urged him into the sunlight.

"Cast away your life and bequeath your suffering unto me, Paladin."

With fear heavy in his heart the Paladin ventured into the sunlight. His skin started to tingle at first, and for a few moments he felt relief. Then he burst into flames. The pain was excruciating, the sword he held fell to the ground, and his bones coated in ash shortly after. The pain faded into the utter blackness of the void, and then the voice called out again.

"The terms are accepted. Talis, Rise."

Talis felt as though he was borne again. Clad in black armor holding a warped version of his sword, standing in the sunlight with the hunger for blood far away from him. His fangs glistened in the light and a smirk of relief came upon him. He understood what he had became: a champion once more, dedicated to the glory of death. He immediately started his new mission: to cleanse the earth of the undead menace, travelling through much of the known world and slaying the creatures who would dare deny death its bounty.

The church took notice and sent a group of Paladins after him. Their betrayal still stung him, but he no longer felt allegiance towards his former brothers-in-arms. He slayed them without much hesitation, heading to a large cemetery in a forgotten hamlet that necromancers had reportedly been conducting dark experiments in. He found them, slaughtered them and their abominations, and was once more greeted by the aspect of death. It lead him to a crypt, and commanded him.

"More will come. Guard this holy place of death." He accepted the order, and for more than 1000 years slept undisturbed. Recently, however, the lost graveyard was devastated by modern construction. Talis rose from his crypt and slaughtered the workers, finding his ward in total ruin. At a loss, the aspect of death appeared before him once more.

"Prepare them for the Purge."

He set forth across the world as a reaper, seeking more undead to slay and to discover what this "Purge" was that the entity spoke of.

The Powers

Power 1: Smell of Blood: As an Evolved Vampire, Talis can smell blood.

Power 2: Undead Tracking: As a Death Knight charged with the slaughter of the rampaging undead, Talis can sense the presence of undead or fel creatures such as ghouls, werewolves, zombies, and vampires, among other things.

Power 3: Versus Undead: Talis is a more effective fighter versus undead or fel creatures, but loses effectiveness against individuals that are blessed, or in holy areas such as churches or other consecrated grounds, with the sole exception of places where the dead rest.

Power 4: My Sword; My Soul: Because of the nature of Talis' sword if it breaks he can restore it to form simply by willing it to be so. However, if the sword is removed from Talis possession, he suffers -1 penalty to all physical statistics and loses all abilities related to the title Death Knight.

Power 5: Grace of Death: Talis can survive one fatal blow that leaves his body in tact per thread (i.e. stabbed through the heart, shot in the head). He may or may not respond to this injury in a normal manner.

Make sure you don't go overboard with your RP Mechanics such as smelling blood, and the death thing is a given. No one is going to want their character to die, so that's a nice way to explain that.

Just, don't go overboard, etc.

You need to set up duration and cool downs. For the Darkness basic spell, they typically do not have cool downs, but they need post limits. I'd say 2 solid darkness-posts.

For low spells, the minimum cool down is 1 post, med is 2.

Set that up and we should be good to go.

Set up ma'am. Before he is approved, may I request some time to finish his sword? It is as important to his character as the application itself I believe, and I should think that having both of the applications interconnected would ensure that the essential item was reviewed with great haste so that the character could be role-played quicker.

You cannot drain peoples stamina. And it cannot be permanent if you do. They would have to have low DUR for the "Darkness" low spell to effect them.

Talis, the Death Knight Empty Re: Talis, the Death Knight

Post by Talis June 29th 2013, 7:37 pm

May I know about what Durability so that I may note it here to clear up any confusion? I believe that it would be either 3 or 4.

In addition, I would be eager to here a possible replacement for the stamina drain effect. Nothing is coming to mind at the moment, and I would look favorably towards your insight.

It could be 3-5.

Once you've got that fixed, you should be good to go.

Talis, the Death Knight Empty Re: Talis, the Death Knight

Post by Talis June 29th 2013, 7:45 pm

Alright-y, I went with the greatest amount that my novis spell could affect in regards to DUR to get some bang out of it.

I altered the stamina drain to something less stamina drain and more not stamina drain along the lines of some internal damage, unspecified so people can write how they think they're characters would react since biology varies widely in some cases.

It wouldn't do anything to people with the correct DUR to counter it.

As long as you keep in mind that the stat and the person your RPing with is what determines the damage, then we're good.

(:

If the first darkness spell simply darkens the room, I would say that durability would have no say within its effectiveness. Just my two cents on the matter really.
