Song Mao Ken Empty Song Mao Ken

Post by Song Mao Ken April 16th 2011, 10:58 pm

Real Name: Song Mao Ken
Super Hero Name: Ventus
Title: Monk
Alignment: Good
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Race: Chinese
Hair: Clean shave (no hair)
Eyes: Brown
Height: 5'11
Weight: 149 lbs

Costume Description/Image:
See avatar for description (wears robes all the time). Through his affinity to his power, he gained intricate, unidentifiable golden tattoos on his forearms. His brown robe is a must for this monk. The brown, beautiful beads that changed his whole life is always around his neck, as a reminder of what it did and gave him in life.

Personality:
Caring, benevolent, selfless, and curious. His curiosity often gets him into quarrels he didn't need to be in, which causes him to be berated by his masters at the temple. Although caring and benevolent, he will fight if he has too. If a villager is ever in trouble and he's nearby, he'll always spring into action, and he never accepts rewards. He has no need for money, or anything other than what he has. His only fears are the death of close ones, and causing an accidental death with his power, like when he was a child.

History:

Birth

Born to a normal Chinese family in the country, his parents named him Song Mao Ken because Song is the surname ,Mao means talented, and Ken means sincere, earnest, and cordial. Which, in the future, will describe Mao. His father a collector of ancient objects and farmer and his mother a stay-at-home mom, he never really went anywhere. His family always had what they needed at home, and the entertainment was the little trinkets his father always brought home.

Childhood

As a young child he began farming with his father, and also acquired a knack for collecting old trinkets. Although, one day his father had bought a particularly odd, brown, bead necklace off of a merchant. Putting it into his slider closet in his room. Telling Mao he can not touch it, and in a very serious tone that it's magical, Mao acknowledged he'll never touch it. However, in the middle of the night while his father went out having heard a strange noise, he sneaked in while his mother slept and took out the beads from an ornate box, and quietly sneaked back to his room. With his little eyes and very curious mind, he began to tinker with it, while he sat on the floor. Eventually putting it around his neck, and liking the feeling of the very decorative, large beads, he suddenly had a strange feeling of weightlessness. Looking down, surprised, he saw that the beads were now emitting a bright white light. And, looking below him, he saw he was floating in the air - without any intention to be doing so.

Suddenly, the whole house began to shake, and screams could be heard. Frightened and worried, he quickly spins around, but comes to a sudden halt in hovering and falls to the ground, hitting his head hard as he was high up, knocking himself out. Nearly three hours later, when he woke up, he could see a small tornado spinning off in the distance, wreaking havoc in the nearby forest. It was in the middle of the night. Weak and wounded, he could barely move, but turning his head over to the right with difficulty, he could see his whole house torn down and destroyed, and that he was about 100ft from it. How he got there was obvious; this crazy wind stuff. He could only wonder if his parents were okay...

Suddenly blacking out from the pain and the worry, the next glimpse he had was of a man, dressed as a monk and looking rather old with his baldness contributing. His face was wrinkly and his arms sagging, but he seemed rather fit for his age. Mao noticed he seemed suspended in the guys arms. Blacking out again, he later woke up to have the feel of a bed under his body; one that was rather uncomfortable, too. Looking to his side, he saw a young person, probably in his teens, with a bottle of medicine in his hand, dressed as a monk, reading the bottle. Looking up and seeing Mao awake, he explained to him what had happened. A tornado had hit his old home, killing both his parents but sparing Mao, because of what they said the tornado saw as 'innocent life, to be let live for a greater future.' He didn't understand, and didn't pay too much attention because he was in pain, but they did show him the omen that predicted something bad would happen to his family. He was only 8 years old at the time. Mao went to sleep immediately, as he did need rest.

Later in the day, he was found grieving his loss - horridly. Having no more family and no place to go, living all the way out in the middle of the country area where population was sparse, he knew nobody. To comfort him, the master of the Bái fāng, meaning White Fang, introduced himself. The master's name is Sun Man Sheng. The temple he laid in, something Mao was not familiar with, was a Shaolin temple, specifically for the Bái fāng monks. Because Mao had no place to go, he was to stay at the temple and become a monk (if he wished, which he chose), but it would require intense, daily training, and great agility, focus, and great control of the body. Mao was currently in no condition to go anywhere, so he had to stay in the infirmary for then. Later in the day, however, the guy who was treating him the day before introduced himself. His name is Shi Meng Su, a 12-year-old monk who was training to tend to the wounded. Mao took a liking to this nice and comforting guy, and he liked the master too. He's wise and ensuring. After a while of talk about their lives, Mao learned that Shi Meng Su was adopted by the master because his family had been killed by thieves, who were killed by Sun Man Sheng, and since he was 5 he had trained at the temple in Kung-Fu and how to use the twin hooks.

For the next couple months, Mao was healing his body from the damage he had taken. Still upset over his parent's death, it was a hard thing to take as a child. Although, after healing up, he began his first training. Judging his agility and speed, his master tested him. Setting out obstacles, he set forth a wooden chair for him to jump over, then he'll put down a rat for him to chase down and catch. At first, jumping over the chair was of some difficulty, despite its small size, but he eventually caught up with it and made it completely over the chair. He fell on his face, though. Getting up, he saw the rat just running off to try and leave the temple. Running after it, the little rodent put up quite a fight - it wasn't until Mao got angry that he caught it, but something extraordinary happened - a gust of wind blew the rat up in the air, unexpectedly, and Mao, surprised, caught the little rodent on the tip of his fingers. Grabbing it with a firm grip, he reported to the master and told him what happened. Intrigued, the master scratched his chin a bit and asked Mao to go to his quarters, but not without assuring him he did a good job.

The master later coming to Mao's quarters, he looks at him with a sad face, realizing that Mao is the killer of his family - he didn't want to tell him, though. His new-found powers had been unstable in the beginning, and caused the tornado. However, he did tell Mao that he has the power to manipulate air, one of the elements. Getting very excited, he asks what he can do. Explaining to him the urgency of his powers, it is not always a gift. His powers could be used in anger, to accidentally cause harm, or could put thoughts of power in one's mind, causing them to become a darker person, using his powers to gain a higher stature. It was a very sensitive issue. Anything could happen, and intense training was needed.

Mao, proving himself to be agile and fast with the added bonus of a power, immediately began Kung-Fu training the next day. Not only that, but one of the monks who specialized in motion tutored him on arm and leg coordination, to move it all as one for maximum effectiveness in Kung-Fu and his air manipulation abilities. As wise as the elder monks are, they understood what must happen. Giving Mao a partner, he paired him up with the other young monk who he knows more than the others; Shi Meng Su. Together, they went through intense Kung-Fu training. However, having years more of experience over Mao, Shi Meng was always the victor in sparring matches. It would take years for Song Mao Ken to get on Shi Meng's level, but because of his special abilities, it may not take that long.

Teenagehood

After several years of intense, daily training, Mao began to get a foothold of it. Using his basic Kung-Fu skills in coordination with his now powerful air manipulation, he could take on Shi Meng and it could be considered a fair fight. They were about 50/50 in win/loss rates, and they both were becoming better and better by the day. However, it was time that they began using weapons. Mao favoring the max wood staff, chose that weapon as his own. However, for training, he would start with the standard wooden staff. Shi Meng, on the other hand, took the hooked blades as his choice. They were just children, so no lethal weapons were allowed, so wooden swords were used in replacement. In the battles, Mao would take the staff's light weight to his advantage, engaging in very fast moves and sweeping his enemy off his feet. Shi Meng's hooked swords were great for disarming, as the hooks gave the advantage of a lock between weapons, and the multiple razer-sharp edges were a definite up.

Both of them training hard to master their weapons, they undertake daily, rigorous training to become masters. Under the tutelage of master Sun Man Sheng, they both quickly advanced in power and skill. Other than combat, however, both Mao and Shi Meng were becoming very spiritual and wise through the education and wisdom Buddha gave unto them through sacred books. As all Shaolin monks were Buddhist priest, Mao had adopted the religion and kept it at heart for his lifetime. Although hard to become as peaceful as one such as his wise master Sun Man Sheng, it was possible. Through this philosophy, Mao became a more wise monk, and one much more peaceful than before. For the first time ever, he felt calm and passive, despite his horrid childhood, full of painful training, a damaging injury and the loss of his only family. With his new philosophy in mind, he furthered his goal to become a master to help others, and to preserve peace.

Once turning 18, after years of peace, training and learning, Mao for the first time stepped outside the confines of the temple grounds, stepping upon the green grass outside, and seeing down the beautiful mountain the temple rest upon. The beautiful cherry trees were blossoming, and the leaves a pink color. However joyous the moment was, he had a mission. A super-powered villain was terrorizing a nearby city, and the monks were needed. Sent on this mission to show the responsibility of great power, it would seem that way to Mao also. He walked down the broken mud path, but came to a stop when seeing the city off in the distance below. Always wanting to try this, he thinks that maybe he could fly...

And there he was, falling to his doom down the side of a large mountain, his robe flailing in the air and his staff barely being held in his hand. Although not fearing death, he didn't want to die yet. He felt he still had a purpose. Everything around him was a large blur, and the wind nearly blinded him, but using some slight power of the air and pulling his staff above him, only after shifting his body so that he's going foot-first, he began to twirl it very, very fast. With the aid of the air, his fall soon turned into a drift, and that into a glide. Although he could not fly, he at least wouldn't turn into a pancake. Getting ever closer and closer to the now seeming to grow city, he felt a sense of accomplishment and joy. Once landing upon the cold, hard road below, several cars stopping and honking in anger behind him, he stood straight up, flipping his staff behind him, and staring ahead. There it was, his target. A magenta-suit wearing buff-guy with super strength beyond the norms of any normal man, about to beat a banker's face in when refusing to open the vault. He was just outside, showing everyone what he could do, but the cars behind Mao were in quite a hurry.

Doing a back-flip onto the car behind him, he immediately sprang up and glided nearly 50 feet forward at some speed, and getting into action. For the next 10 minutes, the Hero and the Villain fought valiantly, the villain using his strength to throw things and his skills to keep Mao at bay, while the hero used his staff's length to his advantage and the power of the wind to damage the guy. In the end, the weakened and tired amateur villain was blasted by a wall of wind against a brick wall, head first, knocking him out and collapsing the building behind him. Having defeated the villain, and tired himself to a point of anguish, he stood up, put his palms together as if he were praying, brought his legs together, looked down and bowed to the villain, as a sign of respect to his now beaten body. All the Shaolin did this. Turning around, he saw crowds and crowds of thankful pedestrians clapping and thanking the unknown hero for his deed.

Adulthood

Going back home he got his much-needed rest, for the next couple years he would train with his closest friend in martial arts to further develop his abilities, and to further his powers. However, after a while, the master approached Mao and told him of what happened when he was a child. Phrasing it all carefully, he lightly let him know that HE was the one that killed his parents. This tore his heart up, finally finding out what the hell happened, and learning that he is the culprit. It was very damaging. However, he took control of his emotions through his training, and sunk it beneath him. After all, that was the past, and this is the present.

Not only did he finally become the master he wanted to be at Kung-Fu, but after meeting an American on a trip after saving him from some bandits, he now wanted to learn English. Busting out some old books, he began teaching himself English. Over the next 2 years, he trained, studied and trained. Life from then was easier, and the training nowadays was soothing rather than annoying. The religion he practiced brought peace to mind, and furthered his abilities. Everything was great... until the military dictatorship of China was formed.

The master of the Bái fāng Sun Man Sheng had foretold earlier that if China were to become a military dictatorship, they'd be doomed. The military had been for a while very paranoid about the monks; they thought they were a threat with all their abilities. However, now that China is a military dictatorship, Sun Man Sheng's theory came true. The military took this chance to seize the Shaolin Bái fāng, fearing their abilities and the hero among them, and sent an army after them. Led by some of their own 'heroes,' the Shaolin didn't stand a chance. However, as a last-ditch effort, they fought. They fought, but without success. The master in the lead, they all fought the oncoming villains aiming to kill them off. The monks in the beginning were at the lead with their superior Kung-Fu and melee weaponry, but against guns they didn't stand a chance. One after one, they were taken down. Mao knew they wouldn't prevail, but he didn't think it'd be so horrible. He had to watch his father-figure, Sun Man Sheng, fall before him. His only friend, Shi Meng Su, fell at the power of a villain with the power to conduct electricity through his body. Overwhelmed and defeated, Song Mao Ken was the last monk. He had to make a run for it, but to where?

Remember the master mentioning a boat that was used to get to the rest of Chinafor whatever reason (that he forgot), he quickly ran for the back of the temple. A wondrous view was behind it as he could see the long river, but he quickly jumped into the row boat that was available and began to row. It wasn't fast enough, so he propelled himself faster than any man could go with wind. Once escaping, he quickly made his way to the an airport, disguised himself as a civilian, and made his way to the free land - America.

Many hours later, tired and sad, he got off the plane. Looking rather odd as he had not dressed like a normal Chinese since he was a child, he quickly adapted to the country with his learned English. Finding a dark alley, he took residence there. He had no place to go for then. Later in the day, however, he began searching for a place to stay that was vacant, and was not a normal home. Travelling many miles, he came to the New England area (or so it was called), in North-eastern America. There, next to the ocean, he found a nice vacant spot of great size, and claimed at his. He needed a house, so using his now advanced power over air, he quickly built a building good enough to live in. Though there was no running water or electricity, it was a nice building. It was a miniature version of the average Chinese temple, although took traits from the Shaolin. There was his sanctuary, his place of rest. However, for his first days there, he would grieve his losses. However, had had greater control of his emotions. He is a very religious man, and with Buddha's teachings, he came to pace.

In America, he learned of the state called New York, where he unknowingly took residence. Full of crime and evil, he often went there to stop crimes in progress. As many people around noticed his heroics, and knew the general look of a Chinese monk, they began to call him 'Ventus.' It meant air in Latin, which was referring to his power. Growing fairly known around New York, he was somewhat of a celebrity to the locals. He didn't like his hero name, however. It could give him a false sense of power, which he could use to turn into lust for more and turn to more evil ways. He in no way wanted that. Although he very much longed for his old life, he could not turn back. Realizing that a secluded life doing nearly nothing to help others just didn't seem right. He much more often began acting in New York, as a real hero would. This was his new life... the life of a super-powered hero. A super-powered, selfless, skilled hero monk.

(will finish)

Giving you that because you have a foreign character. Mostly just saying the Communist Party fell in 2024, 4 years ago in this rpg.

Okay the history is still WIP, but I'll start talking about the powers. The grid looks good to me and supports what you want to do. I like the time limit on making a tornado. Thirty seconds will be a few posts, but with how powerful of a force it will bring it evens out.

As for knocking down a wall with a single motion. Brick and wood are good, but what about metal walls? And what about support beams?

I guess the Communist Party thing is pretty concreted into Canon now. Everything else in the political thing is not 100% approved, so just focus on the Communist thing if you want, but Shaolin monks may or may not care all that much.

Shaolin monks mostly live a secluded life, paying no attention to government or for that matter any outside forces. However, there is the occasional ass-whooping for a couple bandits terrorizing some villagers, but that's different.

As for knocking down walls, it strictly depends upon what kind of wall it is. Like you said, support beams would be a problem and metal walls would be much more difficult. However, with multiple attacks I believe it could knock down a metal wall, but with a support beam, I'd probably have to work on those individually.
