When the woman reacted in the way she did, just plainly asking him what he wanted, Drifter did feel a bit bad honestly. He regretted saying what he said, because honestly this lady wasn't old, and even if she was she looked like she was still in her thirties. He just figured it would piss her off, and it was only to amuse himself. He was a bored individual that liked to see peoples reactions, but this time he just felt like a prick, even though he would have never said he wasn't in the first place. When she stopped and turned around, he stopped as well, removing his hand from his face and staring at the woman. For having a few noticeable scars and a totally ruined eye, she really was a beautiful woman. You didn't see people like her everyday, heck, you barely saw people who were physically fit. He let out a low sigh, as if stressed, and spoke.

"I don't know...... Probably both." Drifter said, patting around and searching for his cigarettes. Much to his dismay he realized they had likely fallen out of his pocket while running. He let out a mumble, 'shit' it sounded like, then went back to the conversation at hand.

"Look, I'm an asshole. I'll never deny that. Sorry i said what i said. I've had a rough few weeks. Friend just got himself blown up and is in a coma, he's probably not going to make it, and my family completely ousted me. I got the brawl started back there because I'm pissed at myself, and i said those things for the same reason. I......guess I'm still following you because i need someone to talk to. My friend in a coma used to be the one i did that with, but for obvious reasons he is unavailable. You look like you come from another world.......so yes I'm interested." Drifter admitted. He fully expected the woman to just walk off some more, in which case he probably wouldn't follow. Right now he wasn't really right in the head. He was depressed and all kinds of angry, but he knew when a person couldn't stand his babbling any longer.

No exploding salads this time, I promise. (Chelle) - Page 2 Empty Re: No exploding salads this time, I promise. (Chelle)

Skyler sighed, her left hand raising up to comb through her hair, forcing it back and out of her face. She plucked an elastic from around of her wrist and tied her silver locks up into a very messy bun. Now with her hair out of her face, she looked a little bit younger. Silver hair had been a trend at one point in time, but wearing it down and concealing most of her face shrouded how young her face really looked. She was flawless, save for one wicked scar running down her right cheek.

The only thing that made her hair seem natural was the fact her brows and lashes matched the silver tones of her hair. Her irises were also a gorgeous silver hue as well, deep with brighter flecks of gray. At least her left iris was. She often times wore an eye patch, but having lost it during the skirmish, she was left baring her face to the world. Baring her face to this stranger, that just spilled a bit of his heart out to her.

She had so many war stories, and even more newer ones that could likely top his friend being blown up. The only difference is she could survive an explosion whereas his friend barely did, by luck. Or, so she gathered.

The comment he made that really struck a chord with her was that she looked like she was from another world. A soft smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she shook her head lightly, scoffing a bit.

"Look, I'm a licensed surgeon, not a therapist, so take anything I say tonight with a grain of salt." She offered, looking around until she noticed a pick up truck. She wandered toward it and laid the tail gate down, perching herself on it. She patted the seat next to her and cleared her throat.

"Before we talk until the sun comes up, I need to warn you," she said, trailing off for a few moments.

"I have zero friends outside of my very small family." She was being brutally honest, and it sounded way worse than she wanted it to.

Well.......that went better then going the snarky route. That got him punched in the face. He didn't exactly know the nature of this situation, but if anyone could shed some light on his life someone who actively lived on the edge of their own all the time could. He watched as the woman pulled her hair back, wondering why she did that, besides showing him the rest of her face that is. He figured with the big scar on her cheek she would have more, smaller ones. But no, nothing. An interesting thing, but he refrained from asking about it. She then sat down on a random truck bed, and he did the same, chuckling when she said she had no friends besides her family.

"I have no friends either, just family. When i connect with someone.....they skip over the friend bit." Luke said genuinely as he adjusted against the hard metal bed, he was kind of skinny honestly....and if it wasn't a padded chair it was irritating. Nevertheless, he got himself in a halfway comfortable position before speaking.

"........Something about the night always makes me feel at home, i don't know why. It's like, if i just let myself walk into the dark city and breath the cold air, I'll be free, and all my troubles will wash away the next morning. I think we all have those type of wants, passions. We're just too caught up in our complicated lives to chase such simple things. In the end we all have one thing that we work all our lives for, the thing that fulfills our lives and makes us happy. A single moment.......that makes all the hardship ok. What do you want out of life, Miss?" Drifter said after a moment of silence and staring at the stars and lights of the city. What he said was true. He worked all his life and chased after peace of mind all so he could experience one moment, alone, in absolute silence. The moment was all he wanted out of this world, and he believed everyone no matter who they were had such a moment, deep down. Why he was talking about this, well he didn't know. But it's not like he suggested deep talking to ask a few simple questions before leaving.

Somehow, Skyler was connecting with this guy on so many levels. Was it Karma playing her silly games? Finally giving Skyler something good in return for all the good she had been putting out in the universe? Maybe. Maybe this guy was the one good thing she was suppose to get in life. She always assumed it was Lilia and Aiva - the good in her life.

Skyler was lucky to have thick thighs, and what came with it, a nice butt. She sat rather comfortably - other than the cold. She had been in harsher climates, and her rapid cellular regeneration prevented her from ever catching a cold. She sometimes wondered what it would be like to shiver so a man would offer his coat to her, and other times she was glad she never had to endure that god awful romantic gesture.

Deep down, however, part of her wanted that. Romance. At least, a small part of her did.

"I can relate..." she said, knowing what it felt like when you attempted to befriend people and the attempts always failed. She was just so bad at keeping friends, or even making them in the first place.

Sighing softly, she just laid back in the truck. She was lucky to have found this vehicle. There was a canvas tarp spread out on the truck bed, and nothing else was in it save for a tool box in the upper right hand corner. She laid there and listened to Luke, her eyes closing as she breathed in the night, just as he said he did.

"Skyler... my name is Skyler." She said, leaning up just enough to look at him from her relaxed position.

She laid her head back down though, and then just hummed in thought.

"The one thing I want? Well... I'm sure there's many more things that I want, but most of all, I want for the ones I love to be safe... To know what it is like to live in a world without destruction and violence..." She sighed heavily, her chest rising and falling dramatically as she looked up at the New York City sky. Usually it was filled with clouds, but tonight... Oh, tonight was another sign. Stars littered the dark blue blanket covering New York City, and it made Skyler smile.

"What about you?" she asked, making sure to progress the conversation. She didn't want him to think all she wanted to do was talk about herself. That was the opposite of why she chose to stick around.

A half smile formed on Lukas' face as he heard the woman's response. It was an honorable desire, for your family to be safe. Though that wasn't the part that he really thought about. Living in a world without violence and in total peace, now that was something to think about, as impossible as it was. The question was then asked in return, what did he want? He then laid back as well, just staring at the sky. Only a few days out of decades did this happen in New York City, and he was going to enjoy the stars while they lasted. Plus.....his ass hurt.

"Lukas, pleasure to meet you Skyler." Drifter said once he heard the woman finally tell him a name.

"That's a tough one. I suppose i can dish out the philosophical questions, but when it's time i answer them i draw a blank." Lukas said, musing at that. It was true really, answering his own questions was harder then answering anyone elses.

"The one thing i want out of this world is to know i matter. I don't want my name plastered on magazines or anything like that, but what i do want is something that let's me know I'm here for a reason. Whether there's a god or we crawled out of some bio mixture, i think i deserve to know what my purpose is. The simple answer is, i want my life to mean something." Luke said, his arms behind his head as a make shift pillow as he stared at the stars, though midway through that speech his gaze may have drifted toward the woman next to him.

"But maybe the nature of this world means we don't get what we want. I watched my family get torn apart by this world. Good people, deserving people, getting screwed by it. It breaks my heart to know talent goes unused, and hard work by good people is all in vein. The world rewards evil, and that's why we have so little light." Drifter said, trailing off as if he were talking to himself. His eyes looked as if they were looking through a window, all the way into the stars of space.

No exploding salads this time, I promise. (Chelle) - Page 2 Empty Re: No exploding salads this time, I promise. (Chelle)

Post by Chellizard January 16th 2016, 3:59 am

The rhythm of her heart quickened in pace as she noticed a smile form on his face. She had picked the best time to glance at him. She found herself smiling when he laid down beside of her. It was weird, really, sharing this beautiful night with a stranger. She usually found herself perched, a sniper rifle in hand, counting down the seconds until she executed a target. Or, she would be tucked into an operating room, deep in someone's chest cavity, saving their life.

Taking, or giving life. That was what Skyler did with her time. That was what she chose to do, really. She did it to keep balance. To please Karma. Karma, as many know, is a fickle mistress that enjoys to laugh and revel in other peoples pain, and rarely give back in forms of pleasure or happiness. And that was one name that Skyler was given at one point. Titled as Doctor Karma, the giver of love, taker of life.

Sighing again, but this time from being content, she let out a soft laugh as Luke mentioned he wasn't really good at answering the deep questions.

"Hey, you can't be as bad as me..." she said, shifting a bit to get as comfortable as possible. It beat standing around or just sitting down. It would be even more weird when someone came out to get into this truck and found them in it. She was taking the chance, and was sure she could kick their ass if the owner of the truck tried to be handsy.

"You know," she said, taking a peek over at him. She noticed he was just staring up at the sky, his eyes reflecting the stars. She could see the world there, in that moment. She held her breath as she leaned up, turning over onto her side so she could look at him instead of the stars.

"If you have someone, even just one person out there in the world that loves you... That's reason enough to exist. I've been in the lowest point of my life before. I had no one. Absolutely no one. My mother was dead, I never had a father... I'm not the most emotionally stable person you'll ever meet, sugar. I'm quite the opposite." she chuckled, a little snort interrupting her laughter. She felt the smallest hint of a blush threaten to crawl over her cheeks, but she maintained her composure as she looked at him.

"I just know, somehow, some way, life can only get better if you want it to. At least, that's what I learned. And I took the hard road."

Drifter contemplated what the woman said. He had heard it before of course, from the few people he had ever spoken to about this kind of thing. But it did hit him a bit harder then times before, maybe because he was actually interested enough to listen. The only issue was he didn't know if there were people out there that did truly love him. Sure there was his Mom and siblings, whom he had grown apart from, then there was Pat and Matt, whom he had some tension with as of late. But other then that, he was alone in this world. Maybe that's why it all felt pointless.

"Maybe....... I could just be a cynical bastard ruining his own happiness. But debating these things is how i deal with it all." Drifter said. It was such a pretty night, and he was in the back of a truck with a pretty lady. How this happened, well he didn't really fully remember all the details. But the best type of nights were those kind.

He started to get a little nervous now that he looked at this situation, but he didn't let it show.... Or at least he tried to. He may have blushed when she did, which made it even more tense. His heart raced, and he started breathing heavier, desperately trying to think of how he could continue the conversation without seeming like a fool.

"How did you get that scar, Sky?" Drifter said, finding himself shortening the woman's name without even thinking about it.

"Deep down, we're all cynical bastards looking to ruin our own happiness... so you're okay to feel that way," she said, laying back down after she caught his gaze.

She had noticed his chest rising and falling quicker, and even saw the smallest hint of a blush curl over his face. It could have been due to the chilly wind that was sweeping through the night, but she was sure it was a blush. She smiled inwardly at the thought as she laid there, watching as a few lone clouds crept their way into the sky, blocking the gorgeous stars for a few moments before whispering away.

When he shortened her name, she had a flash back to her foster mother, whom was really her mom in the end. She had been called Sky only by Patricia Snowden - and now this man. Lukas. It plucked her heart strings, almost forcing her to tear up. She could feel her nose start to sting as she thought about it.

Funny thing about the human mind - it can be so naive at times. Even if the wielder of said mind was more intelligent than fathomable by most individuals. Skyler, now emotional, had been posed a question about the scar on her eye. Usually, she would cover up the truth. But here, now, she felt raw and exposed, and she was okay with it. She opened her mouth and spilled the truth.

"It was exactly one year, three months, and four days ago... Dominus had unleashed their Agents upon Los Angeles. I was there, in the cross fire. My own son shot me in the face after Agent Salters injected me with a serum to nullify my ---" She realized what she was saying and sat up abruptly, her fists clenching, pressing firmly against her thighs.

What had she just done?

Well, that was quite the turn of events. He had expected she was a mercenary or something, no one who wasn't could fight like she did. Lukas could see it, she had training. But a Dominus agent? He didn't even think those guys existed with how they were shrouded in mystery. And with the other Agency running around it was hard to know who was calling the shots anymore. But here he was, speaking with an agent. For a moment he was worried she might turn on him, because he was compromised and such. He was ready for that, but he really, really didn't want that to happen. It would hurt him.

"......I remember. I've lived in LA for two years so far. I killed my first that day. He was a desperate man, pointing a crossbow at my head. He had kids, and just wanted to get away from the chaos. He wanted my car, i could have offered to share, but instead i shot him in the head without a thought. There's nothing to be afraid of, telling me what you did. We have people taking over countries with ease and blowing cities to bits, working for a secret organization as a superpowered agent is kinda grounded compared to that." Lukas said, trying to get rid of the tension by being completely chill about it. He really didn't care, it's not like he could or would use it against her or her agency. The only question was if she cared.

"...I'm sorry. I should know not to ask about something like that. Heat of the moment i suppose." Lukas said, again trying to smooth everything over. He really was enjoying himself, and didn't want to ruin everything because of a stupid question.

She turned to look at him, her heart racing. She had never met anyone so open about their life - and in such a way that made her feel comfortable. He just admitted to murder, despite it being to save his own life, and didn't bat an eye about it. She had met other people like this, but not like him in particular. Not someone with a good heart. It was rare, to say the least. She found herself in the middle of a situation she enjoyed, but also hated.

She was torn. She could spill her past, right here, right now. She could get it all off of her chest. She could lift a weight from her shoulders and finally express herself and connect with someone else on a level she had been stuck at for so many years.

She was battling herself mentally. Part of her was on her knees, begging to just talk about it, the other half was repeating the mantra of 'hell no, hell no, hell no.' She took a deep breath and succumbed to the inevitable. She had picked Lukas to spend this evening with, and she knew at least forty ways to kill him with her bare hands, so if he tried anything funny, she'd end him right here, right there.

"I.. am no longer in Dominus. My purpose of being in the organization was for one sole reason... Save Lilia Ivanov. Remember the girl with diamond skin that was flashed to the whole world when the leader of Dominus showed her off? That was Lilia, my Lilia. My daughter..." she trailed off and produced a cell phone from a strap on her upper thigh. On the strap was also her combat knife, and a large side arm.

She cleared her throat and unlocked the cell phone, revealing a very adorable selfie of Skyler and Lilia, snuggled up with hot cocoa and a shared blanket, a little holographic girl perched on the edge of Lilia's coffee cup.

"She is my life. I chose to save her from the torture of Dominus. I infiltrated the organization and tore it apart from the inside out. They had no idea I would turn on them, and tried to recruit my bastard biological son - whom I gave up for adoption when I was much younger - Eric in hopes of forcing me to show sympathy and truly become part of Dominus. I was always just reluctant enough to show I wasn't involved truly, but I was involved enough to prove I was one of the agents..." Taking a breath, she looked down at her cell phone and sighed, realizing there was a missed text message from Lilia.

Maybe she was worried. Skyler knew she would be okay, though. The house was locked down, and no one knew they had moved to New York City - yet, at least.

"I will kill you, you know - if you try anything." With a dead serious tone in her voice, she looked directly into Luke's eyes.

Well, this was quite the mixing pot of spilled guts. Though it's not like Lukas cared. People being honest with each other was such a beautiful thing. People were so afraid to tell the truth when most of the time it had no effect on anything, except for keeping you sane that is. Luke was honest, a trait he prided himself on. Not because it was an honorable thing, but because when he decided he would no longer lie, he was set free.

"I know, but i promise you, i would never do such a thing, not to someone who has been through so much already." Drifter said, sitting up a bit and leaning on the cab of the truck with his knees slightly pulled in.

"Thank you, for being honest. It's a wonderful thing to hear in a world full of lies. Freeing. When i decided i was going to be honest as much as i could, it felt like i was unshackled. Open up more often.....and you will too." Drifter said, a friendly look on his face but not exactly a smile. He wasn't saying she was dishonest or anything, but as a secret agent you obviously kept secrets, and that was just unhealthy in his opinion.

"I see a tortured soul in those eyes, you need all the relief you can get."

He had no idea what she had really been through. She had just barely scratched the surface of her tortured soul. Pulling her legs up, too, she sat Indian style. She chose to take her heels off, of course, and let them lay in the truck bed beside her as she turned a bit to better face Lukas. Her back was also to the back of the truck bed, relaxing.

She let the skirt of her dress fall and keep her lap covered, her hands moving to rest there with her phone being a weight to keep the cloth from billowing about. She had no idea why she wore white. There were splatter spots of blood on it, and a tear or two where she had been cut, but there were no gashes or cuts still bleeding. She rarely ever bled any more. She would heal before she had a chance to bleed. Her cellular regeneration was just too fast.

"I could be lying to ya and you'd never know," she replied to his comment on honesty.

"But, I'm not... and I have no idea why I'm telling you anything. I barely know you. This is so unlike me. I feel like I was drugged with a truth serum." Skyler was now feeling a bit paranoid about the few drinks she did have at the bar prior to running into this guy. It felt way too set up now. Was it a set up? Was this all a game?

She furrowed her brows, her pouty lips forming a scowl as she thought it over.

No. It was just her emotions. She was just being paranoid.

"What's your story? And I take it you've already figured out I'm a meta human, since it'd be weird I was an Agent of Dominus without having skills." She didn't mention her powers - not yet.

"Yeah, i kinda gathered from the whole 'to negate my-..' thing. But it doesn't matter, a lot of people have powers nowadays." Luke said, now considering the question asked by the female more then anything. He never considered his story. But he supposed if you did it in an entertaining way, it could be interesting. Mostly because it was one of a kind.

"It's nowhere as interesting as the life of a superpowered agent, but I'll tell what i can. I was born into a family of, well, super paranoid Catholics. They talked of secret governments and ancient artifacts, the apocalypse, all that kind of stuff. I wouldn't have had a problem with it, heck i still believe most of it. But it brought our family down. We were always moving, always broke, and more then a few times without a home. All because we felt everything was corrupted. So, i paved my own way. I buckled down and blocked away the crazy, and got myself out. I was shamed for it, like i had committed the worst sin imaginable. But i was happy for it. I got help for all the post traumatic stress and other mental crap they caused, and everything was fine. But now...... Now i have another problem." Luke said, summing up more then anything. He could go into details but they would likely be there all night. His mind moved to his recent activities, should he tell? She had opened up to him, why not do the same? Well, if he did then he couldn't say the whole truth.

"I took up vigilantism. I just....... I couldn't handle it anymore, the evil. The average person doesn't know how they are used on a day to day basis. Children don't know how many people would abuse them, not until it's too late. This world, it's broken. I don't know how we can fix it, but something has to happen..... We're going down a terrible road, and I'm afraid no matter what i do i can't save everyone." Luke said, his eyes a bit watery. He wasn't going to cry, but he was clearly emotional about this.

Unfortunately for him this moment was cut short, as the stumbling owner of this truck came out to see them laying in his vehicle. Now, this guy looked like a prick without booze, so you can imagine his reaction with alcohol in his blood. He pulled a hand gun from his belt and pointed it at Drifter, it seemed that Lucius guy taking control of crime in the city made it easy for anyone and their Moms to get firearms.

"Get outta mi' truck, ya hooligans. And i ain't calling the cops if you don't, no I'm handling this myself." The man said, a blurred and already barely understandable accent coming with his words, the intoxication making it even worse.

"Crap."

Dry lips parted to make way for her pink fleshy tongue to wet them. The biting, chilly air from this gorgeous New York City night brushing gently against Skyler's face. A stronger breeze rolled in and forced the few strands of hair that hadn't been fastened into her messy bun to billow about. The cold nipped at her nose and cheeks, but she wasn't bothered by it. She found it quite relaxing. It also helped her from feeling the urge to cry. Her emotions were all over the place tonight.

"That's... well. I'm a bit jealous you had a family that actually stuck with you. The only person I had was my foster mother. She got put into a mental institution by her late fiance." Skyler retained a look of distaste on her face she her mind drifted to Dayne McHale. He was a vile human being, and she was glad to have taken his life away. He had taken so much of her childhood innocence - it was only Karma getting her revenge.

Trailing off, she sighed softly, her warm breath forming a puff of white steam in the cold air.

"Lucky for you, there's other people out there with the same mindset, Lukas," she said finally, turning her gaze onto him. She offered him a half smile, and was about to reach out and allow her fingers to brush over the back of his hand.

Just as she started to reach out, she heard muffled staggering footsteps crunching on the gravel parking lot. As soon as the handgun was even though about being pulled out of his holster, Skyler moved. She moved so quickly, it was hard to realize that she just got up, got her shoes on, and was standing as a barrier in front of Lukas and this stranger. Her phone scattered from her lap to the ground, bouncing and rolling a few times until was was between the truck owner's legs.

Her back was to Lukas now, and Skyler had not drawn her own gun at this point. She was the barrier, a silent guardian. "I wouldn't try anything if I were you, buddy. You're drunk. Your truck is fine. If anything, it smells a little nicer. My perfume is expensive." She had her hands up, waving him down - attempting to calm him.

The man grinned, a field of energy fading as it revealed to be nothing more then some kind of advanced technology. Underneath it all was a woman with a robotic arm and pink hair. Not exactly the drunk guy she was before......... But hey, it was a better look. The gun in her hand appeared to be not a gun at all, and was actually her pink energy charged hand, which fired off directly at the woman who had placed herself in just the right spot. It only took a fraction of the second for the shot to go off, Skyler would likely not even notice the transformation before the energy shot at her. After that, the female leaped into the air, high, ready to land a follow up attack with her cybernetic leg. Drifter had already leaped over the truck bed and drew a pistol, not that it would do him any good.

"You were a lot easier to find then they said you would be." The mercenary said, a half smile on her face as a long energy blade came out of her metal limb and she took a fighting stance a good ten feet from Skyler.

"Um, i think i know this one...." Drifter piped in, still under cover of the truck and firing a few shots at the female. She simply cut them out of the sky.

Skyler's insane intelligence level coupled with her super human reflexes allowed her just enough time to realize and assess the situation before her. A woman with bright pink hair had been after Skyler. How long? She had no real idea.

The pink haired femme had the literal upper hand with Skyler at this moment in time. The energy blast hit her sending a shock of pain racing through to her very core. But that only pissed the silver haired woman off. An audible growl passed her lips, rumbling from her chest. Pink's upper hand was not held for long. While the mercenary jumped up Skyler took the chance to dodge the leg kick with inhumane reflexes.

Lowering toward the ground, Skyler tumbled to the right stirring a cloud of debris as she moved. Rocks were scattered around as her heels pushed into the cold New York City ground.

"Does it look like I'm hiding sweetheart?" annoyance was evident in Skyler's voice as she eyed the woman.

What did she want? Was she an old enemy of Dominus? Thinking it over, Skyler spoke in a commanding tone.

"This is between me and you Pink. No one else. This goes for you too." she looked over her shoulder towards Luke.
