Heathens (Medicine Woman meets the Cor Domitor)
The ringing of bells, the chime of coins, and the clicking clacks of chips being stacked and stacked and stacked.
Sitting with an ever growing crowd, Nathaniel was playing Blackjack. Counting cards is always illegal, but Nathaniel's experience and expertise was far from amateur. He would drink, talk, and make sure the rest of his table had drinks, too. He laughed, he consoled losers, and he even offered to share his winnings with a few people. The constant distraction from his actual powers made things go a lot smoother.
You see, Nathaniel possessed a somewhat useless power to most, but the power of magic was grand when used in avarice. He had a special spell that he could activate and use with little to no effort - the ability to touch an item and read any printed words, numbers, symbols, or characters on the face down side. This made the face down cards dealt to him able to be read without even peeking at them. He kept explaining it was his gut that he trusted, and would refuse to flip the cards, thus not making him a player for that round.
This saved him money. He also had counting up his sleeve, so he was using his brain - despite being a bit inebriated - to become an even bigger winner at the Blackjack table.
It took an hour, but security finally got interested. By that time, three dealers had cycled through, trying to shake Nathaniel from winning. The decks had been changed at least four times, and they even doubled and tripled the amount of cards - seeing as the game can be played with one to eight decks of cards.
It was now that they put his face through recognition software and realized he was a blacklisted gambling addict.
Security grabbed him, pulling him from the table with a fight. It took one heavy blow to the back of his head, but Nathaniel's drunken mind was easily succumbed to the blow. Even with his physical prowess.
--
Turns out, gambling in Jerusalem is fun, but it's all a fixed game. Always. Especially when you try to play at an underground casino that's definitely illegal. The security guards were hired merc's that worked for a man named Dov Doron. His name literally meant "The Bear's Gift." And boy was that bear the best gift giver. Nathaniel was thrown out into the middle of the Negev Desert, three hired guns, and Dov Doron standing around of him.
"Ah. It seems you guys figured out who I am." Nathaniel chuckled a bit.
"Yes. We figured it out. No one steals from my casino. Tell me, what kind of tricks were you using to win?" Dov asked, his big belly nearly popping out of his silk button down. His body was short, fat, and very round, He had an even rounder face, and a large beard trailed down and got lost into his chest hair - it was a mess, but the man thought he looked attractive.
He was definitely some kind of bear.
"I was wondering why they called you Dov Doron. They should call you Dov Dashen. Cause damn are you one jolly fella." Nate puffed his cheeks, and caught a right hook into his jaw. His face swelled almost instantly and he spat out blood as a result.
"If you are referring to me as the stupid man called Santa, you are an idiot! Just shoot him. He's not worth my time." Dov waved a few times, showing off his fingers. Each finger was dressed in a ring.
Nathaniel's eyes widened and he held up his bound hands in plead.
"Wait wait wait!! Waaaaiiittt. You can have all your money back. I was just playing for fun." Trying to reason now, Dov held up his hand to have the three goons lower their weapons.
Dov was listening, but not for long. His patience was as thin as the thread holding his shirt together.

Re: Heathens (Medicine Woman meets the Cor Domitor)
Jayne Bas Chava had seen all the news coverage: "The biggest sandstorm ever has struck the Negev Desert!" declared the news site she was viewing on her smartphone, neatly placed into a convenient holder in her rented Hummmer. "Massive damage left in its wake!", the reporter continued. The scene shifted to an Israeli soldier wearing camo fatigues: "We took a Hummer into the Negev, trying to beat the sandstorm before it would reach one of those tiny Bedouin villages built on one of the few oases. When we arrived, there was...nothing. Literally nothing. As if the sandstorm just...vanished. Sure there were a few scattered ibexes running around, but that's normal. The Negev is their home, after all. We *are* worried though, that a caravan could inadvertantly run them over. They're an endangered species. Even in their own territory. We can only hope they form back into a regular herd before that happens."
Jayne had seen enough. She put her 'phone on "sleep" in case she needed another update quickly. She had to gather those beautiful antelope-like animals back together, for the sake of preserving their species. Medicine Woman would see to it.
After a short ride, she noticed a few figures a couple of yards away. One looked quite stout. Three other figures of various heights and sizes were with the barrel-bodied one...and a fifth figure. She wasn't sure of the fifth one's gender. His/her back was turned to her. She did see that the fifth one's hands were slightly raised...and obviously tied up.
She stopped the Hummer. She slowly exited the vehicle. Just as slowly but cautiously, since she had no idea who any of the five figures were, she approached them. She got close enough to be seen, but kept enough distance to run, if she had to.

Re: Heathens (Medicine Woman meets the Cor Domitor)
Nathaniel had to think fast, and to think fast, he had to focus. And to focus, he needed a cigarette. But that was out of the question. Sweat pooled above his brow, and he chewed on the inside of his lower lip with the base of his hands gently bumping off of the top of his head.
"Okay. I stashed it in the fifth trash can, in the main lobby, four doors down from the women's restroom on the left hand side. I can show you if you just take me." An easy lie. Nathaniel had ditched the bag of cash he was using to play with in the third trashcan on the second floor by the men's restroom - but he was convincing enough.
Dov was about to accept the lie when one of the gun men noticed the woman lingering in the distance.
"HEY! YOU!" Dov shouted, pointing off toward the woman.
"She's here to help you, huh?" Dov asked, and then whistled and pointed at Nathaniel and then Jayne.
"Kill them both." The order was simple. One gun man stayed behind and sullied up Nathaniel, ready to shoot him down. The other two men started running after Jayne, shooting as they ran - their aim not being the best as they dashed through the sand.
"Okay, before you shoot, I swear she's not with me!!" Nathaniel tried to reason before a few bullets escaped the chamber of the gun man in front of him.
Using this to his advantage, he rolled forward and pulled his wrists apart. The bullets had shot right through the ropes. Digging into his jacket, he produced his lighter and he ignited the zippo. The small flame grew and he pulled it into his hand and then threw the ball of fire at Dov himself.
Catching the man on fire made his gun man abandon his post and try to put out the flames.
"Good luck!" Nate shouted as he turned and started running after the two gun men.
His goal was to catch up to them and help save that woman. He definitely owed her some kind of dinner.

Re: Heathens (Medicine Woman meets the Cor Domitor)
Jayne spotted the guy with the gun coming at her. Just as she was about to run back to her Hummer, the gunman's running stirred up some sand. It wasn't all that much sand, but it might obscure his vision for about a minute. Jayne didn't need more than that. The doeskin pouch in her fanny pack simply unfolded into her costume.
In a swift movement, she pulled on her outfit. By the time the sand would clear, the running gunman would be facing a fierce Native American warrior. Medicine Woman unfolded her bow and arrow. They were kept kept in a secret pocket in the hem of her below-knee-length doeskin dress and had them at the ready.
((OOC: The swirling sand is NOT touching the running gunman, neither directly or indirectly. It's merely in the guy's way.))

Re: Heathens (Medicine Woman meets the Cor Domitor)
Nathaniel kept running, kicking up sand alike to the two men running before him. The dust clouds being formed were great cover for a couple of seconds as Nate yelled out to get their attention.
"HEY! Back here! Looks like I'm not dead. So, let's see if you can do anything about it!" a hearty chuckle passed Nate's lips as he slowed down and searched his person.
He suddenly realized he was a magical person and could actually summon his gun to his hand.
Holding out his palm, a circle of relics formed on his palm. An orange light emitted from the runes before a revolver made of bones appeared in his grip.
"Ahhh, Nate ol' buddy ol' pal... I thought you said we were avoiding violence? Ya kno, since we were in Jerusalem and all that." Wick spoke with a raspy voice. Wick was the gun. Yes, the gun could talk.
Holding onto the handle of the gun, Wick, Nathaniel looked down the barrel for a moment to look his gun in the eyes.
"Yeah, yeah... Well, these two guys up there are shooting at a nice woman that distracted the bad guys for just long enough for me to get free. This means I owe her. Understand?" Nate then pointed the gun toward the two guys.
"Oooh. I understand. LET'S EAT!" Wick cackled evilly as he squeezed his own trigger. Nate hadn't even placed his index finger onto it yet. Bullets went flying toward the men and got one of them in the calves.
The other was coming face to face with a woman in Native American attire.
"WHAT?! Where'd the other girl go!" The man stood for a few moments and then pointed his gun up to her.
"What is going on?! I didn't sign up for this crazy shit!" And this was only the beginning.

Re: Heathens (Medicine Woman meets the Cor Domitor)
"Did your parents not teach you to treat a lady with respect? Tsk! I guess I will have to teach you, then." Medicine Woman, with the ease of centuries of her people's archery expertise, released the arrow. She was trying to hit the gun barrel pointed at her. If she succeeded, the bullet might either get jammed before it was shot from the gun OR the gun might backfire, possibly destroying the weapon OR giving the gunman a painful burn on his gun hand OR both.
((OOC: Before the Pilgrims ever heard of Plymouth Rock, American Indians were the best archers in the not-quite-yet USA. The "expertise" term refers to that, not to Medicine Woman.))

Re: Heathens (Medicine Woman meets the Cor Domitor)
The gunman chasing down Medicine Woman was presented with a very hairy situation. An arrow was coming straight for him, but he was already out of breath from chasing her this long. Gasping to catch his breath, he had no time to react to the projectile flying at him at intense speeds.
The arrow jammed into the barrel, completely blocking any more bullets from leaving it, and the risk of the gun backfiring was too high for this man to take it.
"Shit! What are you, some kind of archer witch?!" The man was completely taken aback by the skill showed by the woman.
Nathaniel was also impressed. The bullets that he had shot at the calves of the gunman closest to him were successful. He fell down in agony, screaming as his blood stained the pale sands of the Negev Desert.
"DELICIOUS!" Wick exclaimed as a red smoke poured from any crevice in the gun. The red smoke was actually dissipating blood that Wick was eating via transportation amalgamation. The particles of the blood and flesh were so minute that it was hard to see it being transferred through the air to Wick's 'mouth.'
Satisfied with the main being down, Nate walked up to him and stood over him.
"So, are you sorry for trying to shoot me, and then trying to shoot that nice lady?" Nate's presence was towering, his form casting a dark shadow over the man bleeding out on the sand.
"Yes! Yes! I'm sorry! My name is Rasheed! I am sorry!" whining as he lay there, Nathaniel kicked the gun away and then knelt down by the man.
"Let me take the edge off," placing his hand over each wound, he healed them shut so the man wouldn't die, but he wasn't going to give him the ability to walk again. Men that shoot at women don't deserve their legs.
"Okay, now. You stay here. I'll come back for you if I feel like it." Smirking, the tall, lithe man stepped away from Rasheed and made his way toward the other man.
"Do I get to eat the other one?" Wick was seething with hunger as Nate walked forward.
"I dunno yet. Let's just keep it in the air," as he said that, a pair of beautiful black and white feathered wings unfurled from his back. The appendages tore through his shirt and jacket, leaving jagged slits in his perfectly tailored suit.
Using his wings, Nathaniel flapped them twice, projecting himself forward. He came with one arm out, and clothes lined the man with the jammed gun.
"Stay down or I'll hit you again," Nate said, standing over his latest victim.
Once the man agreed to stay down, Nathaniel's crystal clear blue eyes looked up to lock with Medicine Woman's. He was waiting for her to make a move before he did anything else.
After all, it was always ladies first.

Re: Heathens (Medicine Woman meets the Cor Domitor)
Of course, Medicine Woman spotted the wings that suddenly sprout from the young male's back. He (Nate) had to be a meta. Unlike some who'd run screaming from the sight, instead she lowered the bow, now empty of any further arrows.
Though not "supermodel" gorgeous, sexy or sensual, she had a wholesome-girl-next-door look. Attractive enough, but not the kind of appearance that might make a male "want" her. Medicine Woman nodded amiably at the winged male: "I am Medicine Woman. Who are you?" She then slowly dropped a hand to each side, showing that she wasn't hostile.

Re: Heathens (Medicine Woman meets the Cor Domitor)
Standing at least thirty feet away from her, Nathaniel held up a hand in surrender and holstered Wick, even though the gun protested with anger rising from his muffled voice.
"... YOU CAN'T JUST DOTHA-MMNFF MMNNFF!"
Pulling his overcoat to cover the holster and his gun, it shrouded the weapon in darkness, making Wick shut up entirely. As Nathaniel held up both of his hands now, he walked with caution toward the woman. Winds would blow and billow his jacket a bit, his hair being tousled as well.
He dealt with the heat of the desert by being naturally inclined to climates related to high, dry heat. Each foot step sank a bit as he moved over the sands, his shoes not being the best attire for this kind of environment.
"Hello?" he would greet her questioningly - he did not want to be stuck with one of those arrows, even though he knew he didn't deserve it.
At least, not from her directly. She looked to be the kind of woman that would defend all women and make sure he paid for anything he did. And he may deserve some punishment for upsetting a few other females in his day and age.

"Greetings", Medicine Woman replied. "I am Medicine Woman." She gazed at the men who were now prone on the desert sand. Then she looked back at the winged male. "Are you OK?", she asked as she completely lowered her hand holding the bow. The gesture was to show him that she had no intention of fighting at the moment.
"I am here to help. You have my word on that." Her tone was steady and confident. She meant everything she said.
