JOLYNE KENNEDY
Daughter of Justice

Basic Biography

Real Name: Jolyne "Jo" Kennedy
Renegade/Hero/Villain Name: n/a
Title: n/a
Alignment: Neutral Good
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Race: Caucasian
Hair: Black
Eyes: Green
Height: 5'5''
Weight: 135 lbs
Blood type: B +

The Looks

Jolyne was never one to particularly stand out, partially because she was brought up not to and partially because she was just fairly average.  She wasn't really taller or shorter than other girls, wasn't too heavy nor overly thin, she wasn't ugly but certainly no super model, she was just average.  Her physique was decently toned, but not much more than any other girl her age involved in school sports or other physical activity.  Her straight black hair she would keep cut short, just above shoulder-length.  This was no fashion-statement either, long hair would just get in the way with her active lifestyle.  Short hair was just more practical.  Her wardrobe was also unsurprisingly plain, most of which picked out by her overprotective mother.  The only article of clothing she ever wore of any note was an old leather bomber jacket (several sizes too big for her) that once belonged to her father.

The Legacy

Personality: Jolyne's personality has always been firey.  She was always on the rebellious side, unexpected considering her upbringing.  Never one to take no for an answer, Jolyne would push through to achieve her goals despite what she was told (often putting her in some tough spots).  Often described as "hotblooded" Jolyne is the sort of person to leap before looking, and act on things before giving them a second thought.

Despite being fiercely independent, Jolyne was never a "bad" kid.  She has a unwavering sense of justice, one that she acquired from the stories she was told about her father.  Her dream, since she was very young, has been to become a hero just as righteous as her father once was.  She acts on this whenever possible, standing up for what she believes is right.  Jolyne's determination is easily her most favorable trait, when she sets her mind to a thing, there isn't a single thing that would cause her to give up and stop fighting for it.

Her sheltered life has also made her overly optimistic, idealistic, and quite naive.  Her cheerful demeanor is as steadfast as her sense of justice.  Rather than let the bad things in life get her down she will always fight to overcome them.  It's her belief that any situation, no matter how dismal it may seem, can be overcome with enough effort and resolve.  She also looks for the positive side of people she meets.  She isn't so naive as to not recognize that there are bad people out there, but it's her belief that the majority of people are innately good.

History: Jolyne's story starts well before her birth.  Her father, James Kennedy, was a metahuman destined to make a name for himself.  James had the unique ability to toe the line between multiple dimensions, this allowed him to phase in and out of alternate realms, teleporting him anywhere he wanted on this plane.  James got his heroic debut back when he was only 16 and still in school, he was instrumental in saving the lives of several hostages during a bank robbery.  From there James' fame and heroic exploits skyrocketed.  He eventually landed himself on a team of metahumans backed by the United States Government to answer to rogue metahumans.  James was the golden boy of this team and a posterchild.  It was during these glory days that he met Susan Quinn.  James immediately fell for Susan and it wasn't long before the two of them were married.  Two years after, Jolyne was born.

James left the hero group after the birth of his daughter.  He (and Susan as well) felt the lifestyle was too dangerous and unstable for a new father.  Despite this, James would still find himself answering any sort of threat that he came across.  He was driven by justice, the quiet life was never suited for him.  Susan pleaded with him to move the family out of the city and find a small town to settle down again, somewhere safe where they could get away from all the metahuman drama.  James refused though.  This was the city that he was brought up in, this city had always relied on him and he couldn't just turn his back on it.  Things remained quiet for some time until a storm came to the city, and with it, something much worse.  A PMC splinter-group known as Ithica was making a move to take hold of the city's military base.  That base was the very same base that James' former hero group operated out of.  From the Kennedys' apartment James could see and hear the sounds of battle from the base.  He couldn't turn his back on his former comrades and once again, his sense of justice pulled him into battle.  Before leaving, James woke up Susan to tell her where he was going.

"I'll be right back, just make sure Jolyne and you stay safe."

That was the last thing he said to her.

The years went by and Jolyne grew up with her widowed mother in a small midwest town far from any major city.  It wasn't long before Susan's deepest fears were confirmed.  Jolyne began to show signs of superhuman strength, able to easily move heavy furniture around as young as four years old.  Jolyne had inherited her father's meta-genes.  Susan tried her best to not talk about the past and what her father did, she would talk about what sort of man he was and how he was at home, but never bringing up his second life as a superhero.  Despite Susan's best efforts though, Jolyne would eventually learn of every heroic detail.  Jolyne's godfather, an eccentric Norweigan man by the name of Kan Ingvar, refused to be cut out from his goddaughter's life.  James met Kan while the two of them were still in school, they became fast friends, and as the two both developed metahuman powers, their friendship continued into their hero days.  Kan has a brawler who's powers were superhuman strength and the ability to turn his skin to a hard, metal-like substance.  When he found out that Jolyne was developing superhuman powers (and similar powers to his own) not even Susan could stop him from teaching Jolyne about the world of metahumans.

From Kan's (partially embellished) stories, Jolyne learned all the details of her father's life as a superhero.  His stories filled her imagination with heroics and lit a fire inside her.  Her mother absolutely forbid Jolyne from pursuing such a life and forced her to keep her power hidden at all costs.  Jolyne begrudgingly listened to her mother, not understanding why she wouldn't want her daughter to follow in James' footsteps and become do good for the world.  Kan disagreed with Susan however.  He believed there was nothing more admirable than fighting for what you believe in and while he was personally devastated by James' untimely death he knew that James died protecting those he loved.  Kan believed James would want Jolyne to make the most of her unique abilities, and he was going to make it a reality for her.

When Jolyne turned thirteen her "uncle" Kan showed up for the party.  With him, he brought the greatest present she could ask for.  Kan offered Jolyne the opportunity to learn from him.  He wanted to take her under his wing and teach her how to fight, how to react to a situation, and most importantly, how to be a hero.  Jolyne immediately jumped at the offer.  From that point on, she would join a afterschool "study group."  Or at least, that's what Susan was told she was doing during that time.  Instead Jolyne trained with Kan, learning everything she could from him.  While a rather unreliable youth, never one to take things seriously, Kan made a surprisingly good instructor.  Jolyne learned from him what it took to be a hero.

The years passed and eventually Kan had to leave the small town and return to the city.  He told Jolyne that he had taught her everything he knew and that when she was ready, she could come find him.  Jolyne felt lost without her mentor's instruction.  Day after day, she carried on in a haze.  She continued training on her own, but without guidance it wasn't the same.  As time went on, the doldrum became more and more unbearable.  With only two months until her high school graduation she snapped.  She couldn't take living like this anymore.  The world was waiting for her, she needed to escape this town and this life and become the hero that her father was.  She wrote a note apologizing to her mother, explaining that this was something that she had to do and left it on her kitchen table.  With nothing but a couple hundred dollars of birthday and christmas money, some spare clothes, and the leather jacket her father used to wear, she skipped town, setting out for the city.

The Powers

Power 1: Supercharged - Jolyne is able to enhance her physical attributes by becoming electrically charged.  The amount of enhancement varies depending on the amount of watts Jolyne is able to pull in.  This enhanced state lasts for up to fifteen minutes before she needs to find a new source of energy to charge herself back up (it can last longer though if she doesn't expend any energy after absorbing the charge).  At a full charge she is stronger than any non-superhuman, as well as most superhumans (up to Strength 7).  She also is able to run at superhuman levels, although not on the same level as her strength (up to Speed 5).  Her durability is also increased, able to heal wounds that would normally take months in a matter of weeks (up to Durability 5).  Her strength is by far the aspect that benefits most from this ability, however she's still human (or rather metahuman) and using her full strength can easily cause her to harm herself (breaking all the bones in her hand or even her arm by punching something as hard as she can, etc).
