The Looks

Appearance: If one were to sum up Alan's appearance in one word, it would be average. He is of average height and weight, with pale skin and straight black hair down to his chin. He's not particularly attractive, with a nose that's just a bit to large, a jaw that's just a bit too rounded, and a slight asymmetry to his face. He's not unattractive, at all, he's just completely average. One of the only memorable parts of his appearance are his eyes, his eyes are a deep grey color with a certain wisdom to them. Alan wears mostly unimpressive clothes, often just being seen in a black t-shirt and jeans. His "costume" isn't much different. It consists of a dark grey hoodie and jeans, with a domino mask to protect his identity.

The Legacy

Personality:
When first meeting Alan, most people comment that he's rude, or that he doesn't care for other people. The truth is that while Alan is rude, sarcastic, and cold to most everyone he meets, he's not entirely sure of another way to act. He's scared of getting to close to people, because most of his past experiences with other people led to him being hurt, so he does his best to shut out as many people as he can. He hates people trying to find out about his past before he's told them, as he only reveals it to those he cares deeply for. He will do almost everything for his friends, and despite his brutal sarcasm, he tries his best to help whenever he can.

History:
Alan was born to a young and happy couple. His father was a police officer, and his mother a nurse. Ever since he could speak, his parents instilled upon him a strong moral code. He was always smarter than his peers growing up, by the time he was 8, he was already reading and understanding many high school level textbooks. His parents were always very supportive of him, and despite the fact that he was being bullied in school, he was happy. That all changed when he was 13.

Alan's father was killed in the line of duty. He began to rebel against everything he could. He began causing trouble at his school, picking fights and being incredibly rude to everyone. His mother tried his hardest to stay strong, but the death of the only man she'd ever loved, along with the difficulties of being a single parent lead to her becoming incredibly stressed and depressed. She began drinking heavily to help herself through the day, and then began taking drugs. Soon enough she lost her job and began dating a string of horrible abusive men. Her boyfriends abused both her, and Alan, physically as well as emotionally. Alan began to turn to fantasies to keep him going, often fantasizing about gaining superpowers and teaching whichever abusive jerk his mother was dating at the time that it wasn't okay to beat on others just because they couldn't fight back.

He was able to enter college on a full scholarship, and, while he was glad to be out of a house where he was abused, he still kept wanting to fight crime, and protect the weak. He decided that he would become a superhero. When he was 18 he went out for the first time as Chessmaster. He saw someone being mugged, and swept in to help. However, he was swiftly defeated and barely managed to escape with his life. He realized that with all of his intellect, it would be useless if he wasn't able to hold his own in a fight. He then spent almost all of the free time he had in the following year training, in multiple forms of martial arts as well as working out physically.

The Powers

Power 1: Alan's main power is his intelligence. He easily ranks among some of the smartest people on the planet, at the very least his intelligence is far greater than a normal human's. He is also a master strategist, along with his increased logic and reason. He is impatient for people who aren't as intelligent as him, and will often berate them for being what he perceives as incredibly moronic when they can't understand his complex plans.
