Personality:

Varric has a silver tongue. He trusts very few people and keeps most people at arms length. He is very crafty and is used to getting out of tight situations. He is very good at misdirection. He does have a problem with most people in power and doesn't trust them. He will often get into fights with people of authority.

History:

Varric was born during the reign of King Arthur. However he honestly didn't care about that. He was more focused on survival. Without parents and being from unknown origins he was considered useless. He would normally steal his food to survive and would sleep wherever he could. Either it be in a tree or in a barn. He learned how to fight and hunt for himself. He would do anything to survive, even if it meant living in the woods.

Around the time he was 16 he was well known in the nearby village as a thief and not to be trusted. Around this time a new religious group appeared and began to unite the bandits in the woods. They came to Varric, offering sanctuary and a home. Varric despite his better judgement joined up quickly and it was everything they promised and more. The educated him, refined his fighting abilities and through the use of magic they mutated him, giving him the power of invisibility. As thanks Varric never asked questions and did what was asked of him. The usually sent him to capture supplies from caravans or to ambush soldiers. Varric didn't mind, most of the people he was sent to ambush could fight back and he enjoyed the challenge. Not like he liked his king in the first place.

This continued for about fours years and the cult's influence expanded. Varric and a group was sent to intercept a passerby. They wanted the person for their ritual. Varric was never big on the religious part of the cult but he still did the work for them. It was going to be business as usually until the ambush was sprung. Varric was shocked when the person they where ambushing was a lone girl, not much younger then himself. He stood up against the group. Refusing to take part in it. They just brushed him off and was about to capture the girl. Varric wouldn't stand for it, everyone until this point could defend themselves in someway. This was just a poor innocent girl. He stabbed his allies in the back, literally. He dispatched the group, grabbed the girl and ran. The girls name was Katrina and they hit it off after that. Up until that point he never had anyone he would call friend. And he knew he wasn't welcomed in the village or anywhere near where Katrina lived, but he didn't care. He nicknamed her Kat, mainly cause it was easier and quicker to say. Both him and Katrina had a lot in common. He kept an eye out though. The cult he abandoned didn't like deserters.

Two years past after that. Varric had grown used to the life of hanging around this one town. One day he sneaked his way onto the farm where Kat lived only to find it in a mess. He ran inside, Kat's family seemed to be fine, just a bit disoriented. But Kat was gone. Having a hunch who took her he returned to the cult he left a few years ago. As it turned out he was right. He pleded with the high priestess to let Kat go. The priestess agreed on one condition, he had to kill the king. Despite it being such a tall order Varric agreed.

With invisibility getting into castle was easy. But finding the right moment to strike was the pain. He stayed hidden in the castle for the right moment to strike. And one it arrived he buried a knife deep into the king's head, taking his medallion as proof.

He returned to the cult right before the riutal was about to take place. He gave the high priestess the medallion and he ran to his friend. Right before he could get to Kat he was captured and tortured. The High Priestess said that they had no use for deserters and they needed to be punished. They tortured him in front of Kat then stuffed him in a magic box. The box would heal him and keep him alive and unaging for as long as he remained in the box. But he would be tortured for every second he remained in the box. The box was locked and chained, meant to never be opened for all eternity. The fate of Varric was passed around to spread a message but as the years passed soon transformed into a legend.

The Powers and Weaknesses

(All characters can be as powerful as they want, as long as they are balanced with proper weaknesses.)

Power 1: Invisibility: Varric can turn himself and anything he is holding invisible. He can also make himself completely silent while invisible.

Power 2: Master Assassin: Varric underwent the transformation from thief to assassin while inside the cult. He has seemingly superhuman reaction times and is a terror to fight in combat

Weakness 1: Even though he can turn invisible to the human eye he can still be picked up through infra-red and other non-conventional sensing methods.

Weakness 2: After be trapped in as he calls it "the happy little torture box" for a couple of thousand years he doesn't seem to be all there and has developed a hate for anything that blocks any of his senses.
