Meet Pete
Quest Name: Meet Pete
Information: Dr. Murray was a polymath who use to design superweapons for the U.S. government, switching out of this career when his daughter, Red was born. Unfortunately, about 12 years later, Dr. Murray's wife was killed by a man who's family had been attacked by one of his creations gone rogue, causing him to go through a crisis of conscience and retreat to an old room he had out in Nevada. Later that month, Dr. Murray was greeted by a strange traveler from the future who told him that he was to be involved against a threat known as "The Enigma" and find himself a special part of it. Before he could find out anymore, the traveler disappeared, leaving Dr. Murray's magnificent mind to wander. As it did, he decided that what he would do is put his mind to use defending humanity from this threat, and itself. He created The Vanguard. Juice, Bernard, Sillik8, Aeris and Pete. Five superweapons created from his own research, brought up together to work towards protecting humanity and raising it up into a golden age. He decided that since Pete was the first, and the leader, he should get to know humanity intimately. He decided to raise Pete alongside his daughter. While Pete was a full grown being from his creation, Dr. Murray felt that if PETE got to know humanity, he would better understand it, and Dr. Murray was right. However, while Pete grew to love and care for Red and the doctor, he also grew to feel disdain for humanity. centuries on this Earth and all they did was warmonger, infest and tear apart whatever they came across, especially each other. Pete began asking a lot of hard questions that even Dr. Murray couldn't (or wouldn't like to) answer. Then, one day Pete found out about his purpose, his origin for existing and was outraged. He did not want to be a tool for a lesser race, some kind of weapon. He had a brain, he had thoughts, he deserved to be free, and so did the other members of The Vanguard. Tearing a hole in the wall of Dr. Murray's secret complex, Pete took his group deep into the desert and commandeered an area near Area 51, biding their time for about a year. They've resurfaced recently, and their first target is Dr. Murray, then the rest of the world.
"The thing that amazes me the most about Pete, that makes him so dangerous, is not his strength nor his speed but in fact his mind. When sculpting his neurons I found that his physiology lent itself to the idea of constant evolution, that is his mind is adaptive. Pete will, in no less than a second, analyse a situation completely. Naturally this has tremendous combat potential, that much I had accounted for. What surprised me, a fact that became swiftly apparent once his mind had been activated, was how he can manipulate people.
By analysing, again in mere microseconds, their body language, their tone, their eye movements and a whole host of other things before the target even speaks to him, Pete can swiftly and easily steer a conversation so he can gain the trust and compliance of almost anyone he encounters. I can safely say that speaking to Pete for any length of time is almost as dangerous as engaging him in combat.
Thankfully his anger at the nature of his creation has caused him to become somewhat more irrational, more human I suppose would be the term. However, he remains a charismatic leader and his now xenophobic hatred of humanity presents a whole new danger. Dare I think, dare I suspect, that the with the hand and intention to thwart the coming "Enigma" I may have created it?

Basically, anyone can join, heroes or villains, heroes will probably want to stop Pete (based in Nevada) while villains will either want to join him or stop him and The Vanguard as well
Difficulty: Epic (4000-5000 words required)
Rewards: Experience, new allies (a grateful Dr. Murray and his daughter, she's no slouch int he brain department either) and a possible body to use to harvest/create new things (supersoldier DNA woop woop)

The events are readily known to time travelers/people from the future, and those who sign up as heroes will get a run down of information from Dr. Murray and can post it as backstory if they already want to be in the know or something. That and if they're involved with the U.S. Government or some secret agency on a certain level I figure they should know something about him and at least the basics, like him being visited and that prompting the creation of The VanguardForceaus wrote:How well known are the events?
