Personality:
Ari is the type to mostly keep to herself. However, in most cases, she is very polite to everyone she meets. Ari treats all people with respect, unless she is given reason not to. After years of honing her magical abilities, Ari has become a very skilled sorceress, and is quite proud of her skills and knowledge of the Obeah spellcraft. Ari is a strong sense of right and wrong, but typically refuses to get directly involved in the battle of good versus evil, because she not only believes strongly in a sense of balance between light and dark, but prefers to remain under the proverbial radar. Due in no small part to her upbringing during the years her father was around, Ari is a little mistrusting of some men, and is extremely irritated by sexist or mysoginistic behavior. Sometimes lashes out if she is offended, or if she discovers a man who has been abusive in some fashion. Will not hesitate to defend herself, and has no qualms with taking a life if she has to.

History:
Ari was born in Trinidad and Tobago, her father a business man and her mother was essentially just a house wife and stay-at-home mother. From a very young age, Ari's father would come home drunk and become quite abusive to both Ari and her mother. This occurred several times a month, and was occured at least twice a week. During the times that he had off from work, they always got along well, which led Ari and her mother to believe that it was always just the stress of his job and alcohol that led him to do the horrible things he would do to them. This led her to become something of a daddy's girl while he was himself, but she still had a great relationship with her mother. During her younger years, Ari's mother was very superstitious, and would tell her daught tales of various creatures and events that supposedly happened to her when she was a young girl. Additionally, she spoke of her own mother, who she claimed was an Obeah seer, who was able to fortell past and future events, and often helped people to escape terrible fates.

Because of these stories, Ari became fascinated with Obeah magic from the age of 5, and began to study it extensively as both a hobby and an outlet. It wasn't long after, at the age of 7, that Ari discovered her abilities. The young girl quickly discovered that she could sometimes see and communicate with the spirits of the dead, and it was typically that of the recently deceased. Additionally, Ari could detect and even recall some past events simply be interacting with objects, allowing her to see who particular objects belonged to, or what those objects were used for. Her mother quickly believed her daughter whens he informed her of the amazing things she could do. Unfortunately, her mother also desired to have money, since her husband brought in all of the money, and deep down, she was hoping that she could save up enough money to leave him for good. So, Ari's mother began using her daughter, opening up a mystic shop out of her home. During the sessions, the customer, Ari, and her mother would hold hands. Ari would interperet flashes of the customer's past, and inform her mother, who would then piece together past events, and form a hypothesis for any future events. Additionally, from the shop, her mother began selling trinkets that supposedly posessed mystical powers. Mostly, they were simply good luck charms that Ari made, but they managed to lend a fair amount of income themselves.

Over the years, this continued until Ari was about 15. During this year, Ari's mother had finally saved up enough money to get away from her husband, and fled with Ari to the United States. They moved to california, attempting to go to a place that wasn't too different from their home, if only to prevent an even more severe culture shock for her daughter. Ari hated the move, but settled into the new place without too much difficulty. Ari immediately enrolled in High School, and began making friends. Unfortunately, many considered her strange, and some even laughed at her accent. Mostly though, they thought her strange because of her fascination with Obeah, which many mistook for voodoo. To make matters worse, some of the girls in her school seemed to practice witchcraft, and would challenge her, claiming that whatever she was practicing was just for jokes and what they were doing was real. This pushed Ari to delve much deeper into the Obeah magics, which led her to learning much darker and more powerful secrets.

Shortly after turning 17, Ari had nearly mastered to Obeah form of magic, and began running a shop of her own near her home, entirely separate from her mother. This allowed her to continue doing what she loved, and it also gave her a means to pay her mother rent, who was collecting disability from the government. Now and then, one of her classmates that actually was interested in what she did would come into the shop, and she would give them a free reading or give them a charm or talisman for free. However, there are also times that some of the more rude people would come into her shop and insult her, only to be kicked out. Worse yet, the shop has been vandalized a few times. Ari cherishes her shop, but has lately had a desire for more. The young woman wants to make a difference in the world around her, and seeing all the news about heroes and villains made her want to get out there and find a way to help. However, she also feels that she would be better off staying out of it, causing her a conflict with herself. As of late more than ever, she has been battling herself over whether she should get involved in the events of the outside world, or if she could keep to herself. Ari now waits for a sign to answer her question, and for a means and reason to throw herself out into the world, and find a way to begin making a difference.



The Powers



Power 1: Clairvoyance - 1 point. Can see the past of an object or individual through contact.

Power 2: Ability to communicate with the Dead.

Power 3: Flight. Gained the ability to fly through an Obeah ritual. The enchantment is only in effect while she wears her bone talisman around her neck, and thus, can only fly while wearing it. However, the enchantment has a residual effect that can last up to several minutes, allowing her to attempt to recover it or land safely before beginning to fall.

Spell List:

Bone Talisman
Basic Spell
Cooldown: 0
Summons a small Obeah talisman made of bone. The talisman is about 4 inches tall and two inches wide, intricately designed, and bears a special symbol of Ari's design. Alone, this talisman does nothing, and could be considered nothing more than a good luck charm or a bad omen. However, with other spells, it could be use for various purposes.

Talisman Tracking
Basic Spell
Cooldown: 0
An Obeah spell utilizing talismans. Ari is capable of tracking her talismans by performing an incantation after creating a talisman. After only a short time, she can create a connection to a talisman of her creation, allowing her to sense it's location within a limited distance. However, with concentration and a lengthier incantation, the range can be multiplied, allowing her to sense a talisman that is up to 100 miles from her current location. After the initial usage of this spell, the bond remains until the object is destroyed, or she cancels the spell.

Bone Spear
Low Spell
Cooldown: 2
Summons a 4 foot long spear made of bone. The shaft is intricately designed, bones twining around each other to form an incredibly sharp point on one end. While not all that durable, these spears can be manipulated through another spell, and are very sharp, able to pierce through flesh with ease.

Hands of Obeah
Low Spell
Cooldown: 1
Allows Ari to manipulate several light objects, or a single heavy object with her mind. Using her hands or fingers as a focus allows her to manipulate a larger number of objects, and allows her to move them with greater force and speed. For example, using only her mind, a maximum of two objects. Hands, one small object per finger, or one large object per hand. The maximum capacity for this spell using both hands is about 500 lbs.

Talisman Curse
Medium Spell
Cooldown: 4
Allows Ari to curse a victim who is in possession of a talisman. This curse causes the victim to see themselves differently, typically in a way that makes them feel revolting or fearful in some way. For example, if a person fears growing old, they would see themselves growing older rapidly, and would slowly begin to feel as though they were old. If a person were afraid of being weak, they would see their body withering away, and would slowly begin to feel the same way. This does not cause pain, and the curse can only last as long as the talisman is in their possession, so as long as it is in contact with them or their clothing in some way. For example, they are wearing it as a necklace, its in their pocket, etc...

Bone Sphere
Medium Spell
Cooldown: 3
A more powerful conjuring spell that combos as an offense in of itself. This spell creates a large bowling ball sized sphere made of bone. This sphere can be thrown telekinetically through the spell as an offensive, causing it to burst upon impact. This damages a target not only from the impact, but the bone bursts, causing shrapnel to fly outward in all directions.

Soul Bolt
High Spell
Cooldown: 7
Creates bolts of energy derived from the souls of the dead. These bolts can be created in both hands, and fired repeatedly. The more residual energy a place has, the more powerful these bolts can be. For example, if used in a place where either people have died, or, even better, in a cemetery, these bolts can be significantly stronger than otherwise. Even without the boost of residual energy, these bolts can be devastating, and serve as Ari's most common offensive ability. This spell can be used to fire a barrage of soul bolts in a single post.

Soul Implantation/Extraction
High Spell
Cooldown: 9
A powerful Obeah spell that allows Ari to place a soul into a vessel, whether that vessel be an empty body, an inanimate object, a machine, or just about anything else. It should be noted that this cannot be used on souls already inhabiting a living body, meaning it can only be used to draw a soul out of a vessel it doesn't belong in, or implanting an outside soul into another vessel. This cannot in of itself be used offensively, but it can create allies, or serve as a prison for the dead, or those who are able to project their souls.

Your Ability to talk with the Dead is more an RP mechanic than anything. (: So it would be considered "free."


Also, keep in mind, High spells only do damage at 8 Ability.

Medium maxes out around 6.

Low maxes around 4.

And Basic spells do not really do much damage. [Hence their cool down cost being "Free."]

Also, the spells ranging from low to high need to have cool downs specified for them. Cool downs must be as long as the posting duration or longer. It depends.

For the Hands of Obeah, I'd like to know the approximate weight she can lift. It could be a significant amount, to be honest, but let's not go overboard.

I edited in the requested information. Added cooldowns to her spells, Hands of Obeah was given a weight limit, put the point from the Talking with the Dead power into Durability, and considered the damage potential of the spells. Anything else?

You've only spent 29 points on her grid. [ Remember, the 1 point in the wealth pool is "free" wealth, representing basic living expenses for your character. Whether they have a real job, or what. The amount never exceeds roughly one hundred thousand dollars at a time. ]
