Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
News Reporter: "A series of fires have been set all across Manhattan, all set by an unidentified arsonist. We have reason to believe the fires are set consecutively and have an established link to each other. The buildings have all been historical structures that have been in Manhattan for decades. There have been minor wounds, but no deaths have yet been reported, but the structural damage is irreplaceable. There seems to be no beneficial objective to this wanton destruction. The only question we have to ask this arsonist is, 'Why'?"
The News, a powerful agent to alert Sul to his next objective. But was this really all there was? He had somehow envisioned something more when he joined the Tough Guys. He envisioned being part of a team that grew stronger together with each battle. But so far, he has been acting Solo. No transmissions received from Pain since he obtained an earpiece that linked them together. Sul held the earpiece in one hand, and the cigarette lighter he received as a momento of the event. Something told Sul-Fury that there was something wrong about this. Could it really just be a bunch of kids desiring attention? It was a possibility, but either way, someone had to prevent more before a life was taken.
Sul stepped outside, where he had a clear view of the sky. His first objective would be to go to the latest source of the explosion, and look for a trail leading to the arsonist's next objective. That would be the best source of action to him. Bending his knees, he looked up towards his destination. Flexing his leg muscles, he leapt as hard as he could. The ground beneath him cratered as he soared into the sky. Sul couldn't fly, of course, as his body fell back towards the earth, he prepared himself for another jump towards the location of the fires in Manhattan. The latest target, being a Museum.

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
Scarletta of course was fuming. Lately she was either fuming or laughing. The strong polar opposites had to be down to this weird illness; being sick, headaches, aching limbs. It wasn't an illness she'd heard of before so the weird mood swings seemed to fit into the odd new disease she seemed to have contracted. What had set her off today however was justified. Scar was a nerd and someone had used HER element to destroy the mother of all nerd centres. The museum of History in New York had been fantastic and precious and had made Scar nerd-squeal the first time she'd stepped foot inside it. She still remembered the look on Pain's face when she came home with souvenirs. The museum was a get away for people like her. You could just dive into the realms of History and forget about Today and Tomorrow. The past was were the true beauties lay and someone had set it on fire. It was only natural she was pissed off. Pain hadn't had to ask her as she grabbed the ear piece he refused to let her outside without then bolted down the stairs with a muffled sentence of 'take care of yourself' or something like that. Knowing Pain he probably made a little joke about it to hide his real emotions.
Men.
Scarletta pushed open the door and then broke into a run. Jogging every day of the weak for an hour and training at the gym kept you in top shape even if her speed was no something that was worked on. She was fast because of her angelic blood, because of an experiment. She'd been faster BEFORE the war. To her even her run felt painfully slow even if to others she looked like an Olympic sprinter. She should be able to go faster. One day she would, she was determined to do so. Why someone would be burning down these pieces of architecture she had no idea. New York was beautiful and the odd smouldering buildings here and there ruined the modern streets. It wasn't hard to find the building which was on fire for two reasons; one she could have walked there with her eyes closed, and two the whole thing was ablaze in fire. She frowned when she skidded to a stop outside, blonde hair tied back in loose bun which allowed several curls to escape the band and brush her cheeks. She hadn't bothered to change out of her training equipment when she got home and she'd forgotten her black jacket - not that she needed it even if i were cold. New York had that hint of Spring in the air and she'd already got a slight tan from the sun. So instead of her usual get up of stileto heels and menacing blade, she wore green hipster combats and a grey clingy vest top. She'd made sure most of her clothes were now fire proof and her training clothes were of no exception - especially as she was training with other Sups. Quietly she watched the fire with the tell-tale Tough guy ear piece flashing in her ear. Her arms folded over her chest and the fire began to die out, her eyes burning up with the concentration it took to dissolved the fire. It arched through the air in a beautiful stream of gold and circled around her, turning her skin to that odd molten brown colour making her look like a dying ember. The fire men who had been frantically trying to put it out stopped and watched in confusion as a small petite female 'stole' it.
"You'd think they'd come up with something more original," she muttered and stepped inside he ruined but now dowsed Museum. She sighed and bent to pick up a burn remain of one of a bones and crouched on her heels, examining the destruction.
"Why a museum?" she asked to no-one in particular.

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
Sul came crashing down to earth on a long jump, knocking a few chunks of concrete up. He felt bad for being the source of 20% of New York's potholes, but emergencies required desperate actions. When he had arrived though, the fire had already been put out. Though, the look on the firemen had all seemed to be diverted to Scarletta instead of the fire. They didn't seem to be running in fear, so he deduced she wasn't the pyrofreak who started it all. Shifting his eyes to the Museum, it would be his next source to check for clues. But he had to act quickly.
Sul sprinted towards the Museum, palm outstretched as he swung the front doors open wide to reveal the crisply burned inside. Difficult to tell where the fire started, he searched around the museum for anything that can establish a link. Stepping on ashes, he had difficulty locating what triggered the fire. His eyes darted to a corner which appeared to have a bit different of a signature than a normal fire. It was a bomb, he was sure of it. He could see the shrapnel all around a circular radius. Someone pretty good with tech was behind this.
Picking up a few pieces, he couldn't make much sense of it. He wasn't exactly a neurosurgeon when it came to advanced tech. And it definitely was advanced. He just wished it could give him a better lead.

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
Scarletta sighed and carried on further into the Museum leaving the clear up team to mourn over the loss of History. She'd find whoever done it and set THEM on fire. There could have been civilians in here, people could have got hurt. The idea of a small child getting frightened and then hiding in the Museum once it had been set alight was not a comforting one. She sighed very softly and then carried on walking through the debris, the walls further in were still warm giving her an idea of where the heart of the fire was. That was when she saw the man holding a piece of shrapnel. The whole floor was littered with it and nothing in the room had a hope of surviving. Scar's blonde eyebrows pulled together very slowly as she watched the man twirl the piece of glass carefully around in his fingers before she spoke up.
"Nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine," Scar looked away from him and dropped into a crouch to pick up a sprinkling of the dust and letting it fall through her fingers. "It's kinda hard to get these chemicals, especially in the states. The government freak out if any kind of explosives cross it's border," she stood back up and then glanced at the man opposite her. Her British souther drawl gave her away as someone not from this side of the pond.
"And you are?" she raised both eyebrows then. She didn't think he was the bad guy behind all of this - they were probably long gone. Which begged the question as to why he was there.

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
"Nitrocellulose and nitroglycerine.", a southern woman's voice nearby said. His neck tensed slightly, as he restrained himself from whipping around at the sound of a second person nearby. Slowly turning his head towards her direction, it was the woman he saw earlier, outside the structure. He was slightly impressed. She didn't seem too fear his appearance at all, even though it wasn't exactly your picture perfect hero. His skin was dark grey, cold to the touch, smooth, like granite. And yet near indestructible to his opponents. His eyes glowed a saturated yellow color. This was no ordinary woman. Even a fully grown man would show fear. There was something different about her, in which he shouldn't rule out the possibility she is the arsonist. He needed to keep her nearby to rule that out.
Sul-Fury listened intently to her regarding the foreign chemical. It could be a clue, but it wasn't making any connections to him. The only logical step he had next was to wait for the next fire, and see if he can catch the arsonist before he could flee the scene. Perhaps she was more afraid than she let on, but knew better to mask how she felt. She required his name before she would introduce herself. But he didn't go by his first name anyways.
"I go by Sul-Fury. My friends call me Sul for short." he said as he rose from his stooped position. "I have a feeling he's long gone from here, but we can check the area. My guess is for our best bet to catching this guy, is wait for the next explosion in Manhattan. I think they're all linked."

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
Scarletta hadn't seen his eyes before he turned round but instead of fear it was curiosity which made her tilt her head very slightly to the left, a lock of blonde hair falling from behind her ear and curling against her temple because of it. He wasn't human, not fully anyway. Curious she stepped a little bit closer. She hadn't heard of that many Supernatural beings in the New York area - they tended to stick to the south or as far North as possible. Only the more sociable of the other races dared to linger in the cities, usually because they could look normal. Sul - or Sully as Scar had decided she would call him - was far from normal looking. It spiked her curiosity so much she had to forcibly keep herself in check to stop from reaching out and touching him. Curiosity killed the cat, her old partner had always chided her when she got a little to close to something out of this world.
"New York has given me the tile of The Inferno," her lips tilted in slight amusement. "Though most people call me Scarlet," she shrugged. She didn't mind to much about people knowing her first name. Her last name - of which she had two - she kept close to her chest. Her eyes travelled the perimeter of the room and her lips tipped down once more.
"They are linked. This is the fourth shell of a building I've stood in. It's not a natural fire as you can see, but it's not supernatural either," she looked back to him and then pulled her bottom lip between he teeth, worrying at it.
"The only problem with that is that civilians could get hurt. It could also be hours before it appears and we don't know if it's remote controlled or on a timer. The arsonist could be long gone before it's gone off," she hooked her fingers through the loop holes in her combats and tried to think of best what they could do.
"There could be a pattern to these, they might not be as random as they look."

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
She was way too difficult for Sul to read. She took a step closer to him, which was the last thing he had expected. His natural instinct made his eyes widen only for half a second in surprise. Either he was dumber than he thinks he is, or he was terrible at reading people. He blinked three times rapidly and looked aside to clear his head. But his eyes returned to meet her gaze at the mention of "The Inferno". What made him so paranoid all the time? He didn't even know himself sometimes. Could she be linked to the fires? Would she lead him on a wild goose chase while more fires continued to spread?
His chin tilted down, with a serious expression on his face. There was only one way to discover anything. He needed to watch her moves, especially if the bombs were remote triggered as she said. These fires had to stop. Her concern for others seemed genuine though. Unlike Sul, it was what was on her mind. He was concerned about the villain, getting to the root of the problem. Perhaps he had forgotten the real reason he needed to become a hero. Stopping a villain was part of the problem, but saving others was the reason.
"You're right. But I don't see any connections to these structures. Museum, three residential, two commercial, and a factory. The news reporter said they were all historical structures. Perhaps we just need to start guessing which remaining ones are next and hope we find something. If we act now, there might be a bomb waiting to go off in one. We can prevent it."

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
Scarletta hummed slightly as she thought about the other great pieces of architecture in the city. They seemed to be growing in importance anyway - the first fire had been a factor, the next homes and now a Museum. Whoever it was was obviously trying to get more attention. The next think up from a Museum was something like a Monument... or a landmark. Something special but old. Scar didn't know much about Manhattan apart from the Municipul Monument. She tugged out her phone and brought up a map of Manhattan and then moved so she was standing next to the man who was going to be working with her, pointing out the highlighted landmarks in the area. She could feel the cold rolling from him but then she was the essence of fire - heat was probably rolling off her in the same sort of way.
"If it's connected that way then I think they'll hit a landmark next or another museum - they seem to want more attention which means upping the game. A monument is probably a likely one," she tagged the screen at the monument she had been thinking of. It wasn't that far away from here either which helped. If there was going to be another one she thought it would be there.
"Municipul is probably the oldest, roughly the same era as this building," she glanced up at him. "And I don't bite you know, you can stop looking at me like I'm an alien," she raised an eyebrow.

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
Right on queue, Scarlette pulled out her phone with a map. Sul hadn't really invested in much for himself, mostly due to the fact that he quit his job and spent his resources doing this. She moved in closer towards him, and he couldn't help but feel awkward. In nature, he was quite shy and felt uncomfortable near people. She was beautiful to the eyes, and had a unique warm personality, and only made it worse for him. If his skin wasn't already discolored, he may have blushed from embarrassment. He tried his best to move his attention to the map, where she was talking of the next possible location where they could strike a counteroffensive against the arsonist.
The Municipal building did seem logical, and quite important. Then again, it wasn't too difficult to persuade him. But her other comment about him looking at her like an alien embarrassed him even more, he couldn't take it. He directed his eyes up at nothing in particular.
"I-I'm sorry! I didn't realize I was staring or something. You're right, let's try there." His eyes fell back down and he returned his attention at Scarlette. "If he strikes elsewhere first, we can always run there quickly and save people if needed."

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
Scar sighed gently and worried at her lip again with a frown. She wasn't a fast runner and she hated it. If it was over the other side of Manhattan then she wouldn't get there in time to help anyone. But this was the most obvious place to look. If the monument went down it could hurt a lot of people around the area and the emotional pain of loosing such a special monument being lost to them. It was nearly as bad as the idea of the 9/11 monument crashing to Earth. They needed to act fast. She checked her phone for any new messages from one of the various Pain kids who seemed to call her on a whim and then slid the phone away with a light shake of the head. It seemed quiet on the Kid front for the moment. That odd twinge in her stomach happened again but she brushed it off and got her mind straight.
"Right, okay. It's not that far from here," she started towards the door and paused at the door, turning back to look at him for a moment. He was looking at her weird for the moment before she raised her eyebrows.
"Come on Sully, I didn't mean to get you all embarrassed and flustered. But... You're not the scariest or oddest person I've seen in this world," her lips tweaked up. "Did you think everyone on this planet was going to freak out at how you look?" She tilted her head slightly. "Now are you coming or not? I promised Pain I'd sort this out tonight - you in?"

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
Though he had given her an alternative shorter version of his hero name she decided to come up with her own. He didn't seem to mind for now, there was other priorities they needed to get to. She had seen things more scary than Sul, which in some ways he had seen the same things. When the Underworld opened up, demons flooded the earth. Big and Small. They had strength that could test his own. Ferocity that was endless. Himself, not so much. He was quite a passive, solemn person.
A familiar name had escaped her lips. The name of the man he had only met once since joining the Tough Guys. Since then, he had been working alone or with Sean. Whom he also hadn't seen in some time. Pain. Just what kind of a man was he? She seemed to have some sort of a link with him, his anxiousness got the better of him. He quickly spoke his mind as he jogged to catch up with the woman who was heading to the monumental structure.
"Whoa-wait how do you know Pain?" His eyes full of curiosity, hoping to find the answers he sought.

Scarletta was happy to go at a brisk pace towards the monument but talk at the same time - it wasn't often she met another non-human like herself. She wondered what he was but it was rude to ask. She'd seen fire spirits look very much like him and a few Shades too. But he was ice cold so maybe something more along the lines of a cave creature. She thought he was going to touch her when he said 'woah' but all he did was jog so he was slightly in front of her. She paused for a moment to think of how best to phrase it and a blush crept up her neck and spread over her cheeks.
"I... Well we have a history together," she rubbed the back of her neck slowly, jostling the blonde curls around her back before she glanced up at him.
"We're kind of... I don't know. It's complica-" she cut off as the worst pain she'd had yet seared through her system and had her stopping, pressing a firm hand against her stomach, bent over and gasping. Gritting her teeth she dropped into a crouch which usually eased the suffering attack on her insides and took three long deep breaths. She seriously needed to get to a doctors soon, this just wasn't right. The only problem was she wasn't human anymore and she wasn't sure if people were ready to accept angels again.

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
Listening intently on the words she spoke, hoping to learn a little more about the man known as Pain, she was suddenly cut off. At first he thought it was an attack, he quickly hovered over Scarlette and glared about for an assailant. He had seen stranger attacks before. Opponents fighting in the shadows. He further extended his arms around her to block anything incoming. Any further attacks would have to pierce his own thick skin. Looking down at her quickly, she didn't appear to be bleeding. Probably an internal wound. Just who was this woman?
"Scarlet! Are you alright? What's wrong?" Strange, he felt this concerned about a woman he had just met. Had it been the link to Pain? Or perhaps her brittle appearance, that made him concerned for her well-being. He had to act. Had to say something. He didn't know what to do. Afraid to even make contact with her, he asked a third question before she could even respond. "Do you need a doctor?"

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
"Been meaning to go..." She smiled slightly when he asked if she wanted a doctor. The hell was wrong with her? This was the worst pain she had had yet. Slowly it eased and she stood up, hand pressed to her stomach.
"I think it's my scar - have you heard of Chaos?" she asked once her stomach had stopped spasming. Scar blinked on seeing the rather protective circle he had created around her and she realized just how tiny she really was. She felt small in Pain's arms but in this guys she felt just as small - she'd put it down to Pain just being 3inhumanely big and was okay with the fact he was the ONLY person who could make her feel like that but Sul seemed to make her feel just as small. She WAS really small and narrow compared to men. Sometimes her own arrogance got in the way and she convinced herself she could take on people like Pain and Sul but on seeing just how easily he could crush her she very much doubted she could be much of a match for him. Unless she went inferno.
"He stabbed me a while back, the scar's given me grief now and then, it was probably just that," she carried on with her story and gently put a hand on his arm to reassure him.
"I'm fine now," she smiled. "Come on," she coaxed as he looked uncertain. "Don't want anything else to blow up now do we?"

Re: Since when were we a team? (Invite Only)
A warm hand got placed on his arm, reassuring him of her safety. Sul backed off from the girl after he had realized that she wasn't in any danger of being harmed. 'Been meaning to go'? This wasn't something Sul would put off. Some sort of wound she received in an act of betrayal that haunted her still. Sul had encountered Chaos before, but he had never gotten a name. Their little scuffle didn't last long, and neither were really a victor. They both sort of just backed off. The villain had only faded into his subconscious like any ordinary subclass villain.
His glowing eyes slit, looking at Scarlet. No, he didn't want more explosions to occur. But he didn't want her killing herself out there either. He was getting better at being a solo artist, with all the experience he had gotten. He hadn't seen her yet display a significant amount of strength, only weakness. Yet, on the other hand, she knew more about the bombs. Without her, he had no leads.
"No, I don't. Don't push yourself if you're hurt bad, Scarlet. Carrying you to the Hospital will only give him more time. After all is done, you need to get some help. That looked serious." He hadn't been a mortal in years, but he knew what it felt like to be one. He still got injured, even with his durable skin. Yet, there were no doctors he could see. No physician that could heal him. His flesh had to mend by itself. There was no other way. Scarlet wasn't like that though. He knew she could get some help, if she wanted to.
