Hitcher Empty Hitcher

Post by Ember_Fangs May 21st 2011, 1:38 pm

Come on come on come on ... Someone pick me up. Grace thought in annoyance, sticking her thumb out to point down the road towards Chicago. She had her other hand up over her eyes to shield it from the sun. She needed a car and whoever was going to pick her up was going to be the one loosing their car. She'd be nice, throw 'em their phone. She wasn't utterly heartless. Grace had to do some good, the nuns had raised her good, she didn't go killing for no good reason, she helped when she could but right now she was on a mission. To the nun she'd said it was like a pilgrimage, like people walked to be closer to Our Father she needed to go and find Her Father.

Her Father.

All Gracie had was a name and the trail ran dead there. Chicago, the place she was heading now. Which sucked for her as she lived a good 5 states over in Arizona. She'd managed to get the nuns to drop her off at a bus stop with a ticket but it only took her to New Mexico which was to close to Texas for her liking. She'd walked and bus tracked to the point she hadn't got that much money left. She needed a car and the only way to get one without paying was to steal one. She didn't fancy the idea of smashing into one an driving round with a broke window, waiting for the cops to get her, which left her with hitching a ride and knocking the driver out the car.

Gracie brought her hand up and squinted against the sun which was beginning to dip towards the horizon. She was going to need a lift soon or she'd be stuck out here in the dark and that was not a pretty idea. She scuffed her converses on the dust side path of the hiighway and only just covered her shorts and top. Grace had a mile of leg on show, only half of her thighs were covered by denimi shorts. She had on two layered tops, a tank top which sat around her hips, and a crop top which fell off of one shoulder sleek, deep caramel brown skinned shoulder which ended a inch above he tank top. Both came down low enough to show off the silver cross that lay smug just above the visible cleavage. Her ruck sack was slung over her shoulder and she held a water bottle in her hand. She'd just got out her deinim hat when she saw a car starting towards her. Shoving it on her long dark brown hair which she'd stuffed up and under the hat, she stuck out her thumb again, a few stray curls falling from her hat and tickling her cheek.

Come on.. Stop...

It was hot with the summer sun beating down on the Earth, Danny had yet again come to this plane of existence to get out and have some fun. The fabric of the universe would be fine without him watching over it for a few days. Once he had gotten there, having opened the door of a small diner in the middle of nowhere, he thought it might be fun to go for a drive since he had not done that for a while, walking out of the shade and the diner at the same time he calmly walked over to a car and opened the door. It was not his but that did not really matter to the interdimensional god, the consequences of his actions rarely had any effect on him since he barely understood humans at all.

Driving was nice, especially with how long it had been since he had done that last. On the horizon he saw the small figure of a human, at this distance he could not tell if it was a man or a woman but that did not matte, he would give them a ride to wherever they wanted.

Once he got close enough to see that it was a girl he slowed to a stop and pulled over to the shoulder of the road and rolled his window down. Sticking his head out he yelled, “I’ll take you wherever you want to go.” This was the first time he had spoken and he realized that he had made his voice nice and smooth with a slightly more gravely sound to it than usual.

I hate wandering around, Sachin thought. He preferred to sleep. But he had recently been mugged, and when he woke up, his coat and wallet had been stolen, along with his backpack, gun, and sketches. The rest could be replaced, but he really missed his sketches. He had liked them and spent lots of time on them,

Bloody muggers.

He walked along, the sunny weather and heat not bothering him. He had grown up in Bombay and LA, so he was used to heat. As he was walking, he saw a young girl asking for a ride, and a man agreeing. Sachin realized he could get back to civilization. He had hitchhiked many times before in India, and knew how it worked. "Hey, can I get a ride too!?" he yelled, running up to them.

Gracie's eyebrow raised at the man who spoke. Damn it he looked young and fit. It was going to be harder to get him out of the car. She had been hoping for an old granny who would take pity on a girl being out here all alone, she could just create a sob story. She hitched the bag higher onto her back and then walked over to the car, her converses shuffling in the sand. Maybe an old lady would come by soon.
"Are ya sure Mr?" she raised an eyebrow, leaning her elbows on the window as she looked into his eyes. She could feel the thrumming energy under her hands, knew she could take it if she needed it but that would be a waste, she needed the car.
"I'm going quite a way, I don't mind if you only take me one state over but any way is good for me," she smiled, her lips tilting up at the corners as she tipped her hat, some more curls falling out of her hat which was meant to be keeping it out of her way. When she heard someone shout for a ride to she nearly groaned but fixed a mask on her face and looked up at the man with a beautiful smile then looked back to the man who was having his car used as a taxi.
"As long as you're not going to Texas, I ain't got nuffin' against it, the people just have something against me," she shrugged and then walked round to the passenger side of the car and got in, buckling up.
"My names Grace, " she half turned to look at both the guys. "Nice to meet ya'll both."

Danny heard the other person call out, the boy wanted to know if he could ride along with him and the girl. That did not sound like a bad idea so Danny waved to let him know he could jump in the backseat and said, “Yeah, jump in buddy.” The girl got in the passenger seat and introduced herself, something Danny had forgotten to do. “Hey my name is Danny, Danny Graham,” he said to the both of them with the same deep and smooth voice he had used before.

Quickly looking in the rearview mirror and at the boy he realized that the boy looked as though he had been roughed up a little. “Are you okay,” Danny asked the boy with a quizzical glance over his shoulder, taking his eyes off the road for a brief moment.

Sachin got into the truck. "Some muggers decided to help me out by relieving me of my cash." he grumbled. "I wake up on the road, unconscious and without any of my money, and more importantly, my drawings."

"Name's Sachin. Nice to meet you two." he said. "What are you guys doing out on the road?"

Grace was not going to give out her full name and neither did the guy in the back so she contently settled back in the seat, glancing to the front to see the open road in front of them. The road stretched ahead, empty and long. Man when was she going to be able to snatch the car? She glanced in the side mirrors and then glanced behind them, edgy. She didn't like deserted roads, especially when she was in the car with complete strangers. Her gloves were in her bag with the built in knuckle busters. She could sure as hell do some damage if they tried anything. And she had a car full of energy to use. When he said he'd been ruffed up she turned round and raised her eyebrows.
"Are you sure you're okay?" she scanned him over while biting her bottom lip. Damn it, to young men! Why couldn't a granny want to a hitch a lift one of these days?
"I'm hitching a ride to Chicago," she smiled slightly, her lips curving up at the corners as her eyes took on a slight playful hint. She was young and in a car with two attractive men. But she was young, however, not foolish. She would play not flirt. Not how she'd been brought up.
"What's two handsome men such as yourselves doing out on the road or picking up strangers huh?" she raised her eyebrows.

“I’m just out driving,” Danny said, taking his eyes off the road to look at the girl he was talking to, “I think I’ll stop at the next door or something.” Danny knew he would drive until he got bored but that was a given for him, although these two should keep him interested for a little while to say the least. He saw that the girl kept her bag close to her but Danny paid it no mind and just continued to drive into the horizon.

“A better question would be; what is a pretty girl like you doing on the side of the road?” Danny asked this question with no emotion in his voice. He was not sure what was in her bag but Danny had to be careful since he was in the real world and was very vulnerable here. Not to mention there were no door for potentially miles around.

This was not his best thought out plan.

"I'm fine." he told her bravely, despite the fact the throbbing pain in his head offered a considerably different opinion. But there was no way he'd tell a pretty girl that. If it'd just been him and Dan, he'd admit it easily. "Chicago, huh? Not exactly the safest place. Bunch of gangs and superhero fighting going on there regularly. And those Black Knight guys too. Not totally sure if they're good or bad." he said. "But I guess it's safer than New York." He chuckled. Everywhere was safer than New York, yet NYC was the largest city. Funny that.

"I'll go there as well. I need to get to some civilization, have some food and then make sure those muggers can't get any money out of my account." he said. He had had a credit card and debit card on him when he had been politely relieved of his cash.

Grace frowned at the man in the back and then pulled her bag up onto her lap and began rummaging through the bag. She un zipped a pouch in it and pulled out a packet of medication.
"Here, take these," she passed them back with her water. "Take two, you'll feel better, pain relief. You might have concussion or something. That will just help, they're like little tablets of haven," she smiled an then glanced to the driver - Danny.

"The bus only dropped me off here from Arizona so I had to treck through the rest of the way, got to this road and couldn't fight another bus to the next state," she shrugged slightly. "I needed to get a ride and this was the only road. I walked miles, there's hardly any cars that stop now a days," she sighed lightly with a shrug. When the man mentioned the Black Night she hugged her bag slightly tighter. Yes, the Phantoms. Her dad was meant to be one of them actually. If she found one of them maybe she'd find her dad. She fingered the golden ring on her hand thoughtfully then before glancing out the window.
"Actually this is the first car I've seen in about an hour," she reached up and took the hat off of her hair, lettng the dark brown, nearly black hair tumble over her shoulders.

“Really,” Danny said with more than a little shock in his voice, “I just took this car from a diner about an hour or two back and there were at four other cars.” He had forgotten that taking things without asking was bad in this world. It was not the first and most likely would not be the last, and that usually wound up getting him in trouble. Danny was not a bad person he just forgot things very easily that he did not find interesting.

“Which way is Chicago by the way?” Something else Danny was usually quite horrible at was geography, although that rarely got him in a lot of trouble.

Sachin chugged the medicine down with the water, and sighed. "It does feel better, thank you." he said with a grin. A sign passed them saying "Chicago suburbs-sixty miles." Sachin smiled again. "Not too long before we arrive."

He turned to the pretty girl up front. "Why do you need to get to the windy city, if you don't mind me asking?" He was getting bored quite quickly in the backseat, having nothing to do. "By the way, would either of you have a pencil and paper by any chance?"

Chicago. Should be interesting to go to. Sachin had never been to Chicago, though he had planning to. Guess that this was his chance to check it out.

Gracie had her feet on the car seat now. The guy had stolen it... Huh. Well she wasn't going to just take it off of him now, it wasn't fair if he'd stolen it first. She wasn't going to take it off another criminal. They'd already covered what would have taken her 3 hours.
"Actually I have a map..." she mumbled and dug back in her bag for the map she had been using. Women could really pack well and nuns were better. First she pulled out a cookie in a packet - a rather large one - which she held by her teeth as she rummaged for the map. Finally finding it she put the bag between her feet on the floor and smoothed out the paper.
"Want some cookie?" she asked, breaking it into three parts. Handing them to whoever wanted them before eating her own chunk of cookie. She swallowed and then answered the question.
"Looking for my parents," she said, turning in her seat. "I tracked them to Chicago, I wanted to meet them, I got dumped at a Catholic orphanage when I was a baby, never knew them, how comes you two are on the road?" she raised an eyebrow slightly.
Paper? She had a whole sketchpad.
She dug in her bag carefully and pulled it out with her carefully wrapped up pencils. She handed it back to him. Half the book was filled with memories from her life, people, places, objects her gadget ideas.
"Start at the back."

"Thank you." Sachin said, taking the pad and starting at the back as she requested. In order to pass the time, he started to draw. "I'm on the road because I was traveling around. I draw and write comic books, you see, and I generally travel around the world getting inspiration so I can get the monthly issue out. I believe I have got one of the best jobs ever." he said with a happy grin.

He took the cookie as well, and started munching on it. "So you're looking for your parents? How did you track them to Chicago anyway, or is that a personal question?" he asked. The Indian was a bit disappointed she grew up in a Catholic orphanage. That probably meant she was growing up to be a nun or some sort. Sachin's proud and clearly extensive knowledge of how what Catholic girls did came from television and an inherent sense that that was how stories went.
