The Metamagician Empty The Metamagician

Post by Vorteld June 12th 2010, 12:02 pm

Real Name: Aaron Wight
Villain Name: The Metamagician
Title: People sometimes style him Sir Wight if he tells them his name.
Alignment: Evil
Age: 147
Gender: Male
Race: British
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown, almost sepia
Height: 1.82 m
Weight: 65 kg

Costume Description/Image:
The Metamagician Bram-stoker

Personality:
Wight is cold and, some would say, insane. This trait most likely stems with his obsession of his life, to become a deity ouside reality and manipulate all of space with his thoughts. He pursues this goal to ridiculous extremes, and is very meticulous in both planning and researching. Wights mind is deep and full of complex trains of thoughts, but his limited abillity to focus on much more than the absurd obsession he strives to achieve makes him look quite stupid sometimes. He behaves and speaks with upper-class bearing, and will often become boundlessly irritated by "dirty street urchins" or "dim-witted thugs". Not that he cares much about other humans. At best they are toys, at worst they are obstacles to be ridden of in exquisitly gruesome ways.

History:
Aaron was born into the rich but recluse Wight family, growing up in their manor in a remote corner of the Isle of Wight. He was educated in all the normal ways, and came to endorse knowledge as his greates love in life, acing at school and spending countless hours poring over books in the family library. Because of this, he was very lonely, but it never bothered him that much. Even his parents failed to get that much affection from him. Besides, he had his problems as well. During his childhood years, Aaron would suffer from strange dreams- many of which featured walks through complex webs of cubes and angles which were unsettling, to say the least. Sometimes he would trip while walking through this web, only to awake screaming to face some strange phenomena waiting for him in the real world. These freakish things included his bed standing on the ceiling, his room being very hot and humid, and his stuffed animals being gruesomely mutilated as if they had imploded on themselves. They were always very short-lived and would stabilize in seconds, but they left their mark on little Aaron, who would often get sent to a therapeutist by his parents, who believed he suffered from night terrors and hallucinations.

The mysterious events ceased when he reached adolecence- at least, they would have, if Aaron hadn't began to read simple physics. The more he read, the more he dreamed about cubes and impossible angles, but he wouldn't trip or change reality anymore. Over the next few years, Aaron came to believe that his dream offered him glimpses of the fabric of space itself, and it was his subconsious touching this which had caused the mysterious warps of reality when he woke up. He become utterly convinced when experimental training revealed to him that these sights could come when he was awake too, if he focused hard enough. Thrilled, Wight spent night after night locked up in his room, practising for almost two years, until peeking into the framework of reality became as easy to him as fliping on a light switch. When he finished college, he took to experiment with the tinkering of this framework- very carefully, of course. Aaron picked up his studies on physics in university to get a better understanding of what he worked with. He started out small, but worked his way up, and the more proficient he became of altering the natural laws of his world, the more thrilled he became. At the age of 29 he arranged for his parents to be killed, and he orchestrated his own death, "leaving" the manor house to "a distant relative". Such he ensured a base for his research, and carefully fabricated rumours of hauntings kept those nosey, annoying kids away.

Wight made the most grave decision of his life when he was 35. If he could manipulate space, shouldn't he be able to manipulate time as well. This interesting thought made him spend the next two decades dwelwing into secrets he wasn't meant to know. He had learned how he could transport his body out of reality and into the Framework, and eventually he discovered a path he could manipulate to take him Outside Time. He was 56 when he stepped Out of Time for the first and the last time in his life. Exactly what he saw his mind instantly surpressed, but Aaron never fully recovered from the ghastly shock it was. He never attempted to manipulate time again, and burned all of his notes on the subject. He thought of resolving to better ways, and decided to live out his years in peace, reconciling with himself. Only a few years later he realised that fateful night had exempted his body from the flow of time itself- it no longer aged. This filled Aaron with a new resolve in life. If he couldn't tinker with time, he would concent himself with ruling space. He took up his research again, devilishly pleased with having a virtual eternity to evolve his skills.

Powers: Aaron Wight's skills are all about manipulating space. He can envision the natural laws of our world and reach out to toy with them. This allows him to manipulate such things as the laws of physics, atmospheric factors, gravity and mass. His power is limited by area of effect, the longer he concentrates to reconstruct reality, the larger the space he can affect grows. The effects persists as long as Aaron can maintain them, and he can choose to exempt himself from them. For example, as a defensive measure, Aaron often massively increases gravity around himself in a small radius, causing most projectiles to drop harmessly to the ground like stones before hitting him. If he were to move, he had to apply the effect to the place he moved to. He could for instance sink a still ship by exempting it from the law of Archimedes, but if the ship was moving, he would have to create the effect in an area the ship would cross, and in both instances, it would take him a lot of time. Aarons favourite way of killing people is increasing air pressure around their heads until they implode.

The Metamagician, as he styles himself, can also exit space bodily, simply vanishing from reality. While in the frameworks, he can regenerate himself and travel at great speeds, so it works as a way of teleportations. However, Aaron prefers not to do this over extended periods of time, as it tends to remind him of the path to Outside Time, which he really wants to forget about. Another power Wight posesses is a timeless body. He does not age at all, and ill effects as disease, posion and blood loss are migitated. He has a certain sturdiness, but nothing more than a normal, tough human.

His greatest weakness are the limits time puts on him. His powers take time to use, and if he is forced to move to a new location, he suffers from a great setback until he can rebuild his protection. As he posesses no special strenght and fighting skills, catching him off guard renders him pretty helpless, as exiting reality takes him around ten seconds. If this should happen he will attempt to stall his enemies with clever talking, hoping to gain a chance to flee and turn the tide in his favour again.

PowerGrid:
Intelligence: 5
Strenght: 2
Speed: 2
Durabillity: 5
Energy Manipulation: 6
Fighting Skills: 2

Roleplay Sample: (If new or new character).

Post by Slamfist June 12th 2010, 2:17 pm

No one really fills in the RP sample because we've all been here for awhile or or one of us admins/mods knows the person IRL. Though I think you could be exempted from it just because it looks like you put a lot of time into this. The only thing I'd like to see is a bit better of an explanation as to how someother of his powers affect people. And I didn't see it mentioned as a power explicitly in there but I need to make sure because it was mentioned, can Wight control time?

The Metamagician Empty Re: The Metamagician

Post by Vorteld June 12th 2010, 2:52 pm

What powers do I need to expand on? Lets say he changes gravity to slow people down and impair their jumping/flying abillities. That again would be limited to a certain place, but if he knew of a certain space his foe would fly through he could apply intensified gravity or change it so that they would drop like rocks when they entered that designated zone. He can severly damage people with ar pressure, provided they don't move to much. He can't bring someone else outside space, so that abillity is for defense, escape, regeneration or travel. Given the proper time he could also enhance a weapon to lose its force of impact, rendering it useless, or increase or decrease temperature. Technically he can control weather, but that feat rewuires several hours of his time because of all the factors that would have to be manipulated.

As for time, he could control it, but he has forgotten how to do so now, and he has absolutely no wish at all to remembers it. His experience Outside Time serves as a mental barrier he cannot break, and he will never experiment with time again under any circumstances.

Hope that helps.

The Metamagician Empty Re: The Metamagician

Post by keil7777777 June 13th 2010, 1:54 am

Before I start, I just wanna say: I'm not an admin, so I really have no power over your character creation or approval. Just giving ideas and feedback. Smile

This character seems incredibly complex. I'm glad to see one so well thought out and planned. The only thing I'm worried about is the sheer power behind him. Being able to alter or ignore any of the laws of physics seems fairly... well... awesome. Crash airplanes, sink boats, disable anything discovered by Newton (making people fly everywhere, lol), disregarding friction so that a character's slightest movements sends them careening off in whatever direction their momentum carries them, etc. And those are just a few I could think of off the top of my head. You said that your powers take time to manifest (moreso with each additional complication), which is good. But at the same time he's had years upon year of training AND education to aid his "Casting" time, if you will. And (as a villain) what's to stop you from, say, increasing the gravity in a certain location until a black hole is formed? There'd be no stopping it if we werent expecting it. A lot of your powers are also Control based, meaning if you happen to 'catch' an opponent into a high-gravity bubble (or increase their mass to immovable levels, or make them levitate helplessly, or nullify the Laws of Lenses to make the target blind) then you could automatically win. It would be child's play by that point to simply change their relative physics at whim; making them so massive that their body collapses in on itself, or creating a air-pressure vacuum that makes their head explode, etc.

Then again, this isnt to say you'd necessarily USE those powers like this. I was just giving examples as to how powerful your powers CAN be. I guess I was just thinking you powers seem really powerful to do how vast their potential is. Could you possibly give a time limit on your powers? ie, how long does it take to nullify gravity, change mass, ignore a law of physics, etc. That might help. All in all, your character is amazing, original, and clever, which is refreshing to see here. But it also treads dangerously close to impeding 'Free Will'. Still, (as I started this rant, so too will I finish) I'm no admin, so I leave all this to their better judgement. Hope to see you RPing soon!

Also, I'd be remiss if I neglected to mention:
Vorteld wrote: and carefully fabricated rumours of hauntings kept those nosey, annoying kids away.
"I would've gotten away with it if it hadn't been for those meddling kids." All I'm sayin Wink

Wow, thanks for massive feedback! Let me just say this: You think much bigger than me XD I didn't even imagine utilizing his powers like that at all. But I see what you mean, so I'll try to figure this out.

As I said, "casting times" are his biggest weakness. Even with all his training, space is soething that wont budge easily. When he tries to kill someone, he often has to rely on his target being helpless, as a moving target would be almost impossible to spoontaneously kill. Were he to affect something large liike a ship it would take at least two hours, and if he were discovered and ored to flee, he had to start all over again, as all effects vanish as soon as he ceases to maintain them. A plane? Never. Firstly, he couldn't possibly get into range withot flying (which he can't), and it would be impossibly hard to predict its flight path anyway. Black hole? Suicidal and waaayyy to costly. Would take decades. So, I'll try to balance him out with long casting times. Feel free to drop an anvil on his head if I play him too powerful Wink

And good point XD

I'm not an admin either, I'm not even a mod, but I personally think that a character with powers like yours would probably have an EP of 6 at the least, but again I'm not an admin or a mod and if Slam thinks it's ok I guess it alright.

Also, are you aware that your character has the fighting skill of an infant? I mean without your powers a child at the age of ten could kill you.
