I Hope You Know What You're Doing
"Good morning!!" she would chime in, busting into the front of the blacksmith's workshop, the hot coals sending a blast of warm air billowing her hair around of her face as she whipped the doors open.
The morning air was crisp and cool, the sun rising to bring a warmth to envelope their little slice of paradise.
She would let her hands wave out to her sides as she entered, a skip in her step. She bounced, her skirts swirling around of her thighs as she made her way over to Gavin. It had been at least a month, maybe two, since she had been rescued by him.
Mirshann had definitely overstayed her welcome, but she had made herself as useful as possible. She made sure to be up before the sun to tend to the chickens she convinced him to get. Fresh eggs were hard to beat. Ryzo was adjusting well to the homestead life, the little cabin tucked into the woods outside of Chicago made it feel almost like his home forest.
Breathing in, the smell of hot steel and coals filled her senses. She sighed out her breath, and then finally produced the reason she came in to bother Gavin. There were various stations set up in the workshop for him to do various stages of weapon smithing, and a few stools set up near the stations for him to rest if he got too tired to stand.
"What is this?" she asked, offering a flyer for a Renfaire that was happening in the upcoming days. The poster had elves, fairies, and other magical folk on the front of it. The fact that there were elves intrigued Mirshann the most.
"Is this something of a royal invitation?" She still had some trouble reading the English language, so the words on the page were mostly gibberish to her. She would perch herself onto a stool next to him as he worked, waiting patiently for him to stop hammering away at the steel before continuing on.
"I have no royal attire," she said, looking down at her outfit again. Since their time together, she had acquired some new items for her wardrobe. Today she wore a knee length white skirt with small pink flowers, and a silky pink sleeveless blouse combination, her blond hair braided to the left side, bangs sweeping across her forehead to the right. Her long elven ears were wearing a pair of plastic pearl earrings that they had stumbled upon at the same thrift store they had found her clothes at. She refused to let Gavin spend anything on her, and tried to steal most of her items, but he insisted on being honest. So, they shelled out the twenty-five cents for the earrings. She wasn't happy about it, but she liked how they made her ears look.
Rocking on the back legs of the stool and then back to all four, she did that a few times while she contemplated what she would wear to this royal event. Hopefully Gavin would be able to explain to Mirshann that this was, in fact, not a royal event at all.

Re: I Hope You Know What You're Doing
In the giant workshop that sat on the back end of the property, Gavin was perched on a sturdy stool himself, bent over a table with a pair of safety glasses on, with a device attached over one eye, as his massive fingers worked at a delicate piece of metal.
Hearing the door open, the blacksmith glanced up with a slight smile that was hidden by his beard, before focusing once more on his work. "Hello, Miri," he rumbled, as he draped a cloth over the object he was working on and took his safety glasses off.
Placing them on the table, he took a moment to stretch, straining his clothes at the seams briefly, before focusing on Miri and the paper she held out.
"Ah. They sent this one out late," he stated, as he took the flyer from her and examined it. "A royal invitation? Hmm... Not for me. I'm just a simple blacksmith." Gavin gestured around the workshop with a grin, before shaking his head.
"No, this is for a sort of... festival that humans hold, that allows us to play-act as if we were back in the Middle Ages of Earths history."
He looked over at Miri, his eyes roaming over her for a moment. "True, you don't have the clothes for this. But, I reached out to some friends, and had them put something together for you, in case you wanted to go."
He stood from his stool, and offered her a hand up, before leading her towards the back of the workshop, and to a door that was kept locked most of the time. Producing the key, Gavin unlocked the door and opened it, allowing Miri to see, for the first time since she had started staying with him, a large dressing room. Against one wall stood several chests and a large armoire. He gestured her in. "Try on anything you like in the chests or armoire. If it doesn't fit, alterations can be made if you like it enough." He smiled at her broadly, and stepped back.

Re: I Hope You Know What You're Doing
It had been literally thousands of years since Mirshann had dressed up for fun of any kind. She had been running for the better part of the last year, trying her best not to get caught up with the police again. She already had them out for her in New York City, and likely in three cities in California as well. It would be best to lay low for her, but an event like this was sure to have her blend in. She was a genuine elf princess, after all.
Perched on the stool behind of Gavin for a few moments while he wrapped up his work, she made her goal not to be nosey. She would only look at projects he wished to share with her, especially considering it wasn't her business to begin with.
"Oh. This is fake play? Like Romeo and Juliet?" she asked, cocking her head to the side curiously. She had not been exposed to a lot of modern-day occurrences, and Ren Faire's were definitely on the bottom of her list.
A blush erupted over her cheeks as she slid her hand into his. She wasn't sure why her face did that. It was uncontrollable at this point in time. Swallowing back her feelings unbeknownst to herself, she smiled softly and floated after him, her feet barely touching the ground as she skipped behind of him. She let her grip rest in his with a sort of importance, as if she mattered more.
"Oooh. We never get to see inside here. This is very special." she commented, excitement rushing through her as goose pimples prickled her arms and the hair on her neck stood up.
Once inside, she was met with every little girl's fantasy. A full closet with lavish exciting clothes and items and trinkets. It was like a true elven ceremony wardrobe, but a splash of steampunk and masculinity took up most of the clothes. However, there was a few that were specifically home to clothes for the feminine figure. With her eyes wide and full of wonder, she let her fingers slip from his as she stepped forward and let the little girl deep inside come to the surface.
She started to pilfer through the items and clothes, not even caring that Gavin was still next to her. She pulled off her blouse, her back to him as she pulled a form fitted corset with bustier around of her waist and she clasped the hook-eyes. Drawing upon the strings, she sinched them tight, the ties ending at the small of her back. She did her best, but cleared her throat, looking over her shoulder.
"Help? Please?" one little request.
As she waited for him, she was already looking through skirts to go with the deep green designs on the top she had chosen. Her fingers danced over different textures before landing on a silk fabric. The skirt was white with gold and green etchings in the patterns of leaves, an almost inverse of the corset. The skirts fell in a regal pattern, sweeping behind of her. Mirshann's long legs filled in the skirts perfectly, the tiered silks creating a window to showcase a pair of knee-high black leather boots.
She ran her hands over the fabric as she stood still for Gavin to tie her.
"Will I be an imposition to join you?" she finally realized how silly she must seem to him, her attention turning back to reality around of her.

Re: I Hope You Know What You're Doing
"Something like Romeo and Juliet, yes," Gavin replied. "With less suicide."
He watched her explore the room, smiling softly to himself as he did. "This is the dressing room, normally used for armor fittings to make sure everything is proper. And also to make sure it meets expectations," he mentioned. "But I moved some stuff in here, in case you wanted to go to the Faire."
He watched her flit around the room, smiling as he did. He opened his mouth to say something when she suddenly pulled her blouse off. With a sharp intake of air, he turned away from her, his face turning bright red.
From behind him, a moment later, he heard her. "Help? Please?"
"Uh... OK." He turned back towards her and reached out to tie off the laces of the corset, blushing still. He turned away again, and moved towards the door, when he heard her question.
"Not at all. It'll be nice not to have to go as the scary-looking blacksmith who looks like he can pick up a mid-sized sedan," he replied, smiling softly.

Re: I Hope You Know What You're Doing
Mirshann had never heard of the word 'suicide' before today, so of course she would have to ask about that in a moment.
The mirror in front of her would give her a good view of Gavin's blushing face, not sure if he was upset with her for asking for help, or maybe because he was just hot. Mirshann was usually oblivious to most acts of flirting, and she was shameless in most ways.
Adjusting the top as he tightened the laces, pulling before tying them into a nice bow at the small of her back. She felt his fingers fumble with the silk for a few moments before letting go and stepping away back toward the door. She turned to face him, pulling a cape around of her shoulders, a small hood attached to it as well. The material was dyed a deep green, gold filigree etchings decorating the velvet. She couldn't help but smile, her eyes sweeping to Gavin again as she took a step toward him.
"What will you wear? And what does suicide mean?" she asked, turning back from him to look at herself in the mirror. She was fully dressed now and looking the royal part. She brushed a bit of her blond hair from her face and let her face unwind from her smile to take in her entire visage.

Re: I Hope You Know What You're Doing
"Well, if you're going as a member of royalty, it's only right that I go as your escort." Gaving motioned her over towards one of the wardrobes set against a far wall. It was closed, with a giant padlock keeping it locked.
The blacksmith pulled a key from a pocket on his apron and opened the lock, before pulling it free and opening the wardrobe. Inside, a massive suit of armor sat on a display, obviously brand new. On a display next to it was an outfit fit for a knight. Both were in shades of green.
"I figured I'd go as a knight. It's a project I've been working on for some time, but haven't had an excuse to bring it out yet." A finger reached out to trace the kite shield that went with the armor, unmarked with heraldry, before trailing across the hilt of a sword that rested against a stand. Both looked to larger than normal.
"What do you think?" he asked.

Re: I Hope You Know What You're Doing
Mirshann's attention would sway, her eyes drawing to the wardrobe as her face lit up with a curious grin.
"I will ask again later," she said, ignoring the fact that he dodged her question entirely. She would have to make a note to have a conversation about this with him later. Mirshann was still just a novice when it came to most normal things that the people of Earth were used to. She hailed from an entirely different world, and an entirely different culture.
She chewed her lower lip gently, anticipation building as she watched Gavin pull a key from his pocket. A small twinge of a blush rolled over her cheeks as he commented on being her escort.
"I would be most honored," her voice was soft, sweet, and full of sincerity. She wanted nothing more than to spend an evening with him at this point. They had spent many days together, but nothing that involved recreation and fun.
She gasped when she laid eyes on both outfits. The precise bends and folds for the armor. The intricate designs and details of the cape for the knight. She gushed over it, scampering to get next to Gavin to see it better.
"Gavin," she looked to him with her eyes full of wonder, a bright smile across her face. She watched his hand brush over the steel, her eyes turning back to his.
"These are... how do you say... in my language.. we would say nindol zhah Fa'ralle" as her native tongue crossed her lips, a heavier accent would lace the words. It had a softness to the words, but each syllable was accentuated precisely.
What Miri was trying to say was it was as gorgeous as a thousand setting suns. She would trace her own fingers over the workings of the armor, another small smile playing at her lips.
"So, is there anything else we must do to prepare for the event?" She continued to examine the armor and outfit for him, before pulling parts of it off of the display.
"Wear it!" she insisted, enthusiastically pushing the garments toward him. "I will close my eyes." she would snap them shut as she took a step away and turned her back to him. She could also just as easily left. But, this is Miri we're talking about.

Re: I Hope You Know What You're Doing
The giant of a man stood, watching Miri, as she fawned over the two outfits. When she asked about preparations, he shook his head.
"I'll take care of them. You'll just need to wear your outfit." He smiled at her, and then took a step back when she started shoving the clothes at him. "Uh, I'm not exactly ready for wearing those," he told her, glancing down at himself. Oil spotted his fingers, and soot clung to his hands and face.
"I'm afraid I'd need a bath before I could begin to wear those," he told her, smiling. "But, give me a few moments, and I'll try it on," he offered, chuckling.

Re: I Hope You Know What You're Doing
A bright smile spread over Miri's face as she turned back toward Gavin, the smile falling to rest as a smirk.
"I thought the fire and ash would add to the entire look." her voice held a teasing tone, the smirk still tugging at her lips. She would exaggerate her words by widening her stance, and waving her hands in a downward motion along his aura, essentially.
Her gaze softened when she looked to his face, noticing just how covered in soot he really was. A giggle escaped her and she smiled again, walking toward him in her regalia.
"Then as the royalty here, I order you to bathe!" she almost immediately regretted the words, a sheepish look coming over her as she sank back a bit. She felt as if she had maybe crossed a line with him. She wasn't being too mean, though. She held the garments for a few moments longer before placing them back on the rack. Her fingers lingered over the designs, appreciating just how nice it was.
"We can fake play later," she chuckled, a small frown trying to cross over her features. She had no idea why she would even need to be sad. Shaking the thought, she clapped her hands and swirled around to usher him out.
Once he left, or if he decided to stay and watch her from the doorway, she would silently change replacing her royal attire with her skirt and blouse, her face holding no expression. She would carefully place everything back where it belonged, being mindful not to tear or break anything. She would bend down and tie up the laces of her boots and then pull the chain for the overhead lights and shut the doors on her way out.

Re: I Hope You Know What You're Doing
Gavin smiled back at Miri.
"If I'm covered in soot and grime, I might as well go as a blacksmith," he teased. "Instead of a noble knight."
When she ordered him to bathe, he let out a chuckle. "That was the plan anyways, Princess," he teased again, with a deep bow. He straightened himself, and moved to lock the wardrobe with his outfits, before moving towards the main door. "Please don't mess with the forge," he reminded her, before he slipped out the door.
Nearly an hour later, he stepped out of the bathroom of the main house, looking less like a man who had walked through a fire. He combed fingers through his hair and looked around, humming slightly to himself.
"Miri? Are you in here? I'm done with my shower, if you, yourself, would like one." He made his way slowly through the house, rubbing a towel through his hair and beard as he did. He paused in each room, looking for the Princess, humming as he did, a deep rumbling sound.
The house was a large, four bedroom, three-and-a-half bath, with an office for where Gavin did his paperwork for the shop. It had an attached garage set near the master bedroom. On the opposite end of the house, the kitchen and living room were open, with a large hand-crafted table set between them as the border.
"Hmmm... Where could she be... Surely, she didn't return to the workshop?" he questioned himself, before heading towards his bedroom once more. He changed quickly into a pair of comfortable pants and shirt, with a pair of steel-toed boots to go with it. And then he walked outside, heading towards the edge of the property, and the workshop that kept his tools in it. "Princess Miri? Are you in here?" he asked, as he opened the door and walked in.
