Live From New York! (News Thread)
Hello everyone! If you're reading this you're one of the first to be enjoying the brand new newspaper The Hero. Brought to you by action news.
I'll be taking you through three events each week. Hopefully you all enjoy it!
First on the list, The return of The Phoenix! That's right folks, it's not just a myth anymore. I even got an interview with him. So two years ago when we all thought he was gone, turns out he was training to become stronger. Now we all get to thank him in person for closing that nasty portal and ridding us of Holocaust. You can check the full interviews out on our website! All future news on our hero and The Talons will be available to you as it comes.
Next up, Girl Alive have attended the Golden Globes, with front woman Tyuki gold dressed to the nines! Their manager Ms.Fukuyama still refuses to say anything, well anything we can repeat. All the actors and singers looked fantastic, and we even caught a picture of Travis Masters and Tyuki Gold together! Could their be a Master-ful romance brewing in the music industry? Full pictures and live interviews are available on our website, hosted by Trishy Voneromo.
Finally, Gravity Man has blown up Detroit. As if that city needed any more damage. Citizens took to the streets in anger, claiming not enough super heroes go there . One went so far as saying "If we were New York none of this would have happened." Those are some mighty hateful words if you ask me! I for one think some of those picketing maniacs need to do something about their city. We all worked hard to clean up New York after it was destroyed not once, but twice. Who's truly to blame here? Looks like that big bad agency took a vacation!
Until next week I am Anna Moran, and thank you for reading. Have a heroic day!

Re: Live From New York! (News Thread)
(Due to an extensive staff conversation, i am adding another weekly (or whatever) news outlet to this called Cypher. More may come from other members to give this thread multiple styles and perspectives, but these are so far uncomfirmed. Note the news submit function is still a thing and any of the outlets could write about submitted news.)
Hunter Kelly here, and welcome to Cypher, Chicago's most informative speculative radio show. And yes i say that certainly, no one else gives you the facts first, and the theories second. Today we will be discussing stories with the general theme of supposedly heroic people perhaps being a little less heroic then the mainstream media is saying.
First off, let's talk about what happened in Vegas recently. From my source it is apparent some manner of anti-metahuman terrorist attack took place, and supposedly The Talons were involved. Yes, the same group that tends to leave a mission 'victorious', but with so many casualties that you begin to wonder who's side their on, decided to go after meta haters with, well, metas. Currently, thirty serious injuries and four deaths were reported from the incident in Sin City. We'll update this story as new information is received. But in the mean time, don't be so quick to trust these so called guardians. They are, after all, breaking the law. Maybe It's time the United States found a better option to defend itself, because with all the damage and death this clearly isn't the answer to our problems. We will only keep getting more uprisings as people get fed up with their superhuman overlords, and supressing those uprisings with those same superhumans is only going to make matters worse.
In other news, i have caught word that a group of so called 'heroes' in LA called Seraphim have found a loophole in the vigilantism law. Apparently they are technically contractors, glorified assassins if you ask me. We as a people have to watch for this sort of thing and unite to stop it. What next? Will the government end up under the grip of these wrongfully named 'Saviors'? Can anyone just deem themselves above the law because they are physically powerful? I see irony here. The heroes who stopped all those villains from taking over the world are slowly doing the same. This and Vegas brings me to the same scary conclusion: that these heroes are the new people in charge, and opposing them results in you being called a terrorist.
Finally, we have a little bit more of a hopeful story. Many cities, even minor ones, across the US are starting to implement anti-metahuman systems and units far more frequently. I believe it's a step in the right direction, because we can't allow ourselves to be vulnerable without our beloved Heroes. Of course, that's just my opinion. You may all choose to continue to support them as our greatest asset. But ask yourself: do i want to rest my fate on the shoulders of complete strangers?
The track record of modern heroism is terrible, and the media as well as the government simply ignore it all in favor of worshipping these people. Our new gods end up holding more and more power everyday, i think it's time we woke up and put it to a stop.
You can find sources and discuss tonights stories on our website, but until next time, this is Hunter Kelly, signing off.

Re: Live From New York! (News Thread)
Hunter Kelly here, and welcome once again to Cypher. Today we have some interesting stories, so I'm very excited. But before we get into it, i would like to thank all of the listeners last week. You made this show's depute one of the most successful on Chicago radio in years. I'm glad there are so many out there looking for the truth behind the mainstream media being force fed to us.
So apparently a very shady situation happened in Canada involving the Talons and Rise. For those unfamiliar, the Talons are an American superhero organization, and Rise is the extremist organization presumably responsible for Detroit and the coup of Belarus. The media given story is that Prime Minister Lucius Alba was conducting a diplomatic meeting with several Canadian company CEOs, including Travis Masters. As interesting as it is to think about what they were meeting about, and if it was illegal or not, we have to be reminded this was on the books and was an official diplomatic mission sanctioned by several international unions. This means the Talons, expanding out from the US, attacked a political meeting and an international figurehead. Yes Lucius had his posse and fought the 'heroes' back, but the situation could very well be seen as an attempt on his life, or worse.
Clearly Rise is making this out to be more innocent then it truly is, and I'm openly no friend of them, but one must consider the implications of our superhumans policing internationally, attacking random government sanctioned meetings. Lucius had this to say shortly after the incident, urging the UN to take control:
"I believe that this was a simple misunderstanding, but unfortunately one that could have done serious damage to the government of an entire country and the economy of another. We cannot afford such situations to be a regularity. Just because someone has special abilities does not mean they can go around pretending to be international police. I firmly urge the United States, and by extension all other superhuman harboring countries to get a grip on their vigilantes. If they continue to act without supervision, disrupting foreign relations and governments world wide, something drastic will need to be done. I consider myself lucky to have had bodyguards around who were competent enough to defeat the potential assassins, others may not be so fortunate if this goes on. Thank you."
This looks very good for Rise, doesn't it? It furthers their agenda, and perhaps sways even more public opinion in their favor. If something is done about superhuman vigilantism, it will no doubt help them succeed in theit endeavors. The question is, what is the lesser of two evils? Do we let Rise run amok or do we support our heroes and end up making them our international dictators? You can comment and poll on our website.
Several men in suits were spotted chasing an unidentified man through a Chicago neighborhood on Tuesday. They caused drastic property damage and the deaths of a few individuals. The FBI has since come clean and said the Agents were indeed fired, but any specifics on the mission were refused. This has seemed to become a regular thing lately, with mysterious missions involving Agents supposedly linked to the FBI and CIA. How come it is happening far more frequently now? Are these two organizations really behind the events, or are we being played? There isn't enough information for anything concrete, but it is suspicious none the less. Remember, you can also post your ideas and speculation about this story and any other on our website.
New groups of super beings are appearing in Chicago it seems. A police operation was interrupted by several 'superheroes' to apparently put a stop to an illegal arms deal. Unfortunately, several people were killed due to this lapse. You see, this is what happens when trained individuals are interrupted by kids that think they are an authority because they have a metagene. This and the other stories today greatly disturb me. But i think there is still hope. More and more people are suggesting superhumans need to at least be supervised or sanctioned by the government to fight crime. It's a step in the right direction, and i hope it sets your mind at ease on your way to work this morning.
Thank you. This is Hunter Kelly, signing off.

Re: Live From New York! (News Thread)
Hello again, Anna Moran here and thank you for choosing The Hero!
We have a GIANT story for you all this week.
As you know, us here at Action News LOVE the Talons.
Apparently, a distress signal was sent out to the talons about a terrorist attack and they bravely crossed boarders, and went in to protect innocent people. It saddens me when people are claiming they went to there to assassinate Lucius Alba.
When have The Talons ever attempted an assassination on anyone?
I've been reading other news articles and it seems both sides have audio or video logs that were either tampered with or cut short. That said. Go to our website and show your support for our favorite heroes! We are accepting fan drawings and mail and we will display them in next week's issue!
With all this said, eye brows are certainly being raised.
We here will never turn our backs on the heroes that have never turned their backs on us.
Thanks again, and we'll see you soon!

Re: Live From New York! (News Thread)
Good morning, and welcome back to Cypher, the only radio talk show in Chicago that tells it like it is. Our last show was even more successful than the first, with an overwhelming response. Thanks to everyone for supporting alternative media. It really is the only way to get the truth these days.
There have been a few events in Chicago lately. More of the same vigilante nonsense, but the curious part about it is the age of the individuals involved. Some reports indicate an average age of about fourteen. So, i have to ask, who is allowing this? The parents? Our society?
These children should be at home, or in school. They should be in a program to figure out how to best deal with their powers, not out using them unsupervised. Stuff like this not only poses a danger to the children themselves, but to civilians and even the criminals. Cops are there for a reason. We don't need our youth to clean up our streets, especially with powers that can cause such devastation.
But, what are we to do about it? Well, we can encourage a culture that treats vigilantism like what it is—a crime. There should be consequences for taking matters into your own hands, even for children. No, I'm not advocating for us to throw kids in jail, but they have to know that it puts people in danger. If they want to stop criminals, foster a career in law enforcement, and discourage superheroics. It's the only way to keep our streets, and our kids, safe.
Disturbingly, i have observed a trend in the area around LA, as many others have. This trend is essentially terrorism by any other name. Average people, arming themselves and patrolling the streets, backed by ideology and political motivations. These people have forgotten their voice, and decided instead to use violence to change the world. Congratulations, first we got our Supermen, and now we have our Punishers. How far down the slippery slope will we have to go before people denounce the vigilantes and 'heroes' that they glorify? A lot further, apparently.
CEOs, politicians, priests, you name it. Nobody is safe in a world where people are allowed to run amok. We need to as a culture and as a country crack down on this domestic terrorism. If we don't, nothing good can come of it. This is an age where we are forgoing intellectualism in favor of violence and force. We have to change.
Ironically, some of these vigilantes are known for their anti-authoritarianism. They want a world without oppression, and without being forced to do something against their will. The irony is of course that they are doing exactly what they claim to oppose. I would never advocate authoritarianism, but the solution is not violence or forcing your will on others, especially in what is currently the most free society in the world. We not only let superheros roam the streets, we endorse it, for God's sake.
There weren't many specific stories this week, only rumors and trends. But, what I can say is that there is a horrible shift happening in both Chicago and LA. Not enough is being done about unlawful vigilantism. I urge all those listening to take action in any way they can. Our future depends on it.
Hunter Kelly, signing off.

Re: Live From New York! (News Thread)
"Ladies and gentlemen, we interupt your regularly scheduled television program to bring you breaking news, from infront of the Harvest Acres Bank, right here in Oklahoma City. It appears that an unknown number of super villians have taken over control of the bank, and are holding the patrons and staff hostage while they rob the vault. As you can see behind me, at the entrance, it appears two heroes have already arrived and are approaching the entrance now. We'll bring you more updates, as they happen. This is Mark Jenkins, with News 9."

"And a breaking news story in the East. Criminal mastermind and Belarusian leader Lucius Alba made a shocking return, by announcing a vote to the neighboring country of Ukraine, exceeding his own authority once again, and making some ask the question, 'What is his end goal this time, and with Atlas gone, who will stop him?' More on this story, as it develops."
