Alex is overly hotheaded, prone to bouts of intense anger, especially when it comes to people disrespecting those he cares about. Despite this, he is also passionate, being a member of several organisations related to improving lives. He is also a free spirit, only seeming to care about things that directly affect him. Deep down, though, he's a big softie who can't stand people being treated unfairly. If you see this side of him, you can count yourself among his few true friends.

Alex was an ordinary teenager with a normal life. He had friends he played with, a girlfriend, Hannah, who, despite living at a boarding school, always made time for dates at least once a week, and a big sister who annoyed him to no end. The whole 'normal life' deal didn't last long though. During an argument with his parents, things got pretty heated. Literally; for this is when he awakened his latent mutant power of fire manipulation, nearly burning the house down in the process. Facing an arson charge, Alex was presented with a choice: 6 months in prison; or attend the recently established Ravenwood Academy for Talented Youths. He chose Ravenwood, found out that Hannah had powers as well (water control and aquatic adaptation), and discovered the Academy's true purpose: training 'enhanced' individuals how to use their abilities to the fullest. Taking the name Backfire, Alex aged into one of the best students there alongside Hannah, who had adopted the moniker Spout.

• Pyrokinesis: Alex can produce and manipulate fire and heat at will. His greatest feat so far, both in terms of size and control, is covering the Ravenwood Academy courtyard in fire (an area of 300 square metres) without harming anyone else, though he was barely able to stand afterwards.
  
• Fire Absorption: Alex can absorb fire to temporarily boost his speed & strength. At full capacity, he can lift 10 tonnes and run at 50 mph for 5 minutes.
  
• Fire & Heat Resistance: Alex is immune to most forms of damage related to fire & heat.
  
• Flight: By heating the air currents around him, Alex can achieve some degree of flight. His current top speed is Mach 0.25 (190 mph).
  

• Talented Athlete: Due to his training at Ravenwood, Alex is skilled in a variety of physical activities.
  
• Near-Peak Physiology: Alex is close to the pinnacle of fitness for his age, thanks to a strict diet & exercise regime.
  
• Unarmed Combat: Alex has undergone martial arts training at Ravenwood Academy, as well as with private tutors; he primarily uses Muay Boran.
  
• Tactician: Alex is skilled in formulating plans to complete a given task and adapting strategies to account for changing circumstances.
  

• Burnout: Excessive use of his powers will cause Alex to experience a temporary reduction of his physical abilities.
  
• Force of Nature: The more powerful Alex's flames are, the harder it is to control them. This is most commonly brought on by intense anger.
  
• Limited Intake: Alex can only absorb so much fire; exceeding this limit will bypass his resistance.
  
• Fireproof, That's It: Alex has no other damage resistances; as such, any non-fire attack would hurt the same as any civilian. This includes any gases (e.g. smoke) that his powers may generate.
  

• Vented Costume- Helps dispel excess heat generated by using powers.
  
• Flight Helmet- Contains gas filters to negate risks of smoke inhalation.
  

Bright red flames appear around Alex's eyes when he's angry. His eyes also turn dark red when using his powers.
