Dante is of average height for his age, with Eastern European features. His face is angular with a sharp nose, and almond shaped eyes. His body is well toned from an athletic lifestyle, usually he wears a t-shirt and large racing jacket to help hide his scars from prying eyes, while covering his third eye with a headband. When doing activities around those he trusts, or in private; he will remove the blindfold so he can see without needing a guide. In addition, when he’s doing hero work he will remove the blindfold to reveal a bright yellow eye in the middle of his forehead.
Dante wants to be your average teenager. However, his upbringing in the cult, and his traumatic experiences have made him wonder just how this would even be possible. His trust in himself has faltered quite a bit, and his trust in others further still. But generally, Dante has a good heart, and all it needs is guidance from the right sources to become truly heroic.
Dante was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to an average family. His entire life, Dante always felt eyes on him.
Dante lived a fairly normal, if sheltered, life. His family refused to let him learn about subjects such as religion, and whenever he got too close to hearing about it; his parents always seemed to be fairly close at hand, ready to push him in another direction.
His family would later move to Rochester, trying to get away from the strange events that kept following young Dante. And, for a few years, it seemed to work. Dante was 13 when he first met Nina. She was an odd girl, homeschooled from the age of 6, and adopted into a huge family late in her life. Nina was an interesting girl, and Dante developed a schoolboy crush on her early in life.
It was only a few months after he had met Nina, that Dante snuck away from his parents after a huge fight earlier in the day when he met Cyrilla. The two had a short encounter, but it was something that bonded the two. He tried to save her, and she did something that he would never forget for as long as he lived.
At 17, he undertook a job as a pizza delivery boy. He was saving up money to take another girl on a date, as he had not seen Nina for almost a year. It was normal to not see her for long stretches of time, what with her being homeschooled and her family being weird about letting her have visitors. Dante just thought that she had been busy or something.
That was until his job took him into that gated community… He rode his bike up to the gate, which opened up without him even needing use the calling device… weird… Biking through the neighborhood, he saw lots of people. All of them wearing the same 1940s - 1950s style clothing that he always saw Nina in. It was getting creepy, but it didn’t get scary until he saw Nina waving him down.
“Hi Dante! My dad wants to talk to you.” Nina said in a cheerful and bright tone. She had an accent Dante was pretty sure was Scandinavian. He wondered if Nina put it on, or if she was from Sweden or Norway or something… “Your dad… what?” Dante asked just as the brutish hand wrapped around his throat, and everything went black.
When Dante woke up, everything remained black. He heard several voices, a couple with tinged accents mingling in the group. “W-where am I…?” Dante croaked. His throat was so dry, and he felt like he hadn’t eaten anything in over a week. “He’s awake!” Said a man’s voice with a pronounced southern accent. “I hope you’re ready, son.” The voice said. “Because you’re about to be a part of something bigger than anything you’ve ever thought possible.”
They kept Dante drugged for several days after that, and they proceeded with the procedure. Dante was unable to move as they sliced his skin in ornate and arcane patterns, leaving him wounded, but they always made sure that the wounds would heal before they continued any procedures. The worst part? The drugs they kept him on didn’t even numb the pain. They said that the pain was all part of the ritual, but that him running his mouth and screaming was not.
Nina wasn’t allowed into the room at all, there were discussions over whether or not she would allow such a thing to happen, even with her indoctrination. Finally, the pain faded, and they finished their gruesome work.
Something began bubbling onto Dante’s head, and his sight returned. At first, it was as if there was a black sheet over his face with someone pointing a flashlight over his eyes, but slowly things came into focus, before it settled into a red and black tinted view of the world.
They held a mirror to his face, and the southern voice asked him if he was prepared to take on the duties that they would ask of him. His scarred face was bad enough, but at least he could past those as tattoos due to their intricate nature. No, it was the gigantic eyeball in the middle of his face that well and truly bothered him. How would he ever hide that? He saw his parents smiling down at him, just before they were escorted from the room. That’s what nearly broke him.
Suddenly, the door exploded inwards. Nina tried to run at him, and he raised his hands defensively. His scars lit up with a bright pink, though it was likely more silvery based on the shade of pink that he saw, and a portal opened in front of Nina.
A small creature stepped from the portal on its haunches. Everyone in the room backed away, and Nina stared at him in shock and hurt… just before the creature removed her esophagus.
The cult never really stood a chance. At least not as caught by surprise as they were. The four members in the room were eviscerated, and the creature, seeing that the threat had vanished, did just that. Dante ripped the IV from his arm and stumbled his way through the compound. If the cult members saw him, they simply bowed their heads, and if they didn’t Dante discovered a way to summon a fiery whip from some foreign voice whispering in his head.
He made it out, but knowing that he was badly wounded and in need of medical attention, he made his way to the hospital, only to realize that it was totally possible for the cult to control that too, and he couldn’t risk recapture. Not after all the pain. Honestly, who knew how deep this could be embedded into the backbone of the city? There really was only one option. He could only hope that the train was still there.
1. Reaction2. Agility3. Endurance4. StrengthPrecognition (Permission Based) - Through the use of his third eye, Dante can see the future if it relates directly to him and his well-being.
Postcognition (Permission Based) - Throught the use of his third eye, Dante can see the past of an object.
Gateway - Dante is a living gateway between this dimension and an underworld dimension. His hands can open the way between this world and the next. The only use for this that Dante has right now, is to summon his Imp, Harold.
Spiritual Empowerment - Dante has been stuck with the souls of the cultists that turned him into what he is now. Because of this, he can choose to allow them to inhabit his body for a short period of time. The Spirits can then use the skills they learned in life to help Dante.
Marie - The Witch, when Dante allows her slight influence over his body, Marie amplifies the power of Dante’s spells by a small margin. When allowing her half influence over his body, Marie gives Dante three new spells, and the ability to craft potions.
Otto - The Strongman, when Dante allows Otto slight influence over his body, his voice gets tinged with a slight russian accent, and he can lift over 500 pounds easily. When allowing half influence, Dante can speak fluent Russian and can lift up to 1000 pounds with some effort.
Jordan - The Leader, when Dante allows Jordan slight influence over his body, his voice become tinged with a slight southern accent, and his voice carries an authority that almost anyone will take note of. When given half influence, Dante’s voice is capable of near mind-control.
Nina - The Acrobat, when Dante allows Nina slight influence over his body, his voice gains a slight Swedish accent, and he can perform feats of acrobatics equal to those of a competitive gymnast. When given half control, he speaks fluent Swedish, and German; and is capable of moving like an Olympic gymnast.
Hellfire Lash - Dante summons a whip made of pure teal and green flames. The whip is Dante’s main form of attack, and causes pain to anything it touches, regardless of their durability or normal resistances.
Obscuration of Orpheus - Dante turns himself and up to 3 others invisible to all forms of detection. The spell even counters true-sight. The more people he adds to the spell, the less time it has to actually function, with three people lasting only for a few moments before they appear once again.
Flight - Dante grows a pair of spectral wings that allow him to fly up to 30 MPH, and up to 40 feet in the air. Any higher, and he will fall.
Marie’s Additional Spells
Hell on Earth - Summons an explosion of flames from the underworld made of the same flames that make up Dante’s whip.
Broken Chains - When Dante/Marie use this spell, Dante can walk through walls made of anything except lead. This isn’t complete intangibility though, it only allows for mobility through walls and floors.
Bindings of Samson - Spectral whips rise from the earth and grasp onto anything they can, the whips are capable of holding near anything for up to 30 seconds.
Third Eye Blind - Blinding, or otherwise wounding Dante’s third eye will leave him completely blind.
Stigmata - Should Dante’s hands be wounded in such a way that disturbs the scars on his palms, the gateway will be completely closed until such a time that it heals.
Overwhelmed - If Dante is knocked out while he’s sharing his body with another of his spirits, the spirit will take full control of his body. The spirits have their own agendas, and their own weaknesses.
Exorcism - Exorcising Dante will cause him to lose all the powers associated with the spirit that has possessed him.
SPIRITUAL WEAKNESSES
Marie - Marie has no greater purpose in life than to open a portal large enough to summon her god. Because of this, Marie has no qualms of letting innocents die, and will allow Dante’s body to come to harm so long as it doesn’t interfere with this goal. Marie’s weakness is fire, and she has no defense against it.
Otto - Otto isn’t the brightest bulb in the box, and despite having his own goals, these are fairly simple and shortsighted. Due to this, often Otto will listen to the other spirits before completing his own goals. Otto’s weakness is pain. Otto cannot use the Hellfire Lash because of this, even if Marie coaches him through the spells verbal components. Not only that, but even minor pain can cause him to fall on his knees.
Jordan - Jordan is a highly manipulative and evil spirit. Jordan’s goals are hard to track, he thinks in the long term. If something suits him and moves his goals forward, Jordan will use it. Jordan’s weakness is his own silver tongue. Removing it will force Jordan to evacuate the body, however, Dante’s tongue will grow back after Jordan evacuates.
Nina - Nina is simple. Her entire reason for joining the Council of the Unseen Cataclysm was to find a family, since she never really had one of her own. Nina will thus reach out to the nearest source of kindness and respect. Nina’s weakness is ice, specifically ground ice. She can’t move on it very well at all, and will slip and fall each and every time that she tries to do any of her acrobatics.
SPELL WEAKNESSES
General - Dante’s spells each align with a scar on his upper torso. Disturbing these scars will cause the spell to sputter and fail.
Iron Dust - The Obscuration of Orpheus and Broken Chains will completely fail if iron filings are thrown onto one of the spells targets.
Smoke and Mirrors - Unlike the Lash, Hell on Earth is a spell that doesn’t damage a person, it’s all an illusion of pain. The spell has a pronounced effect on ghosts however, and anyone who has pledged their soul to the dark god of the Unseen Cataclysm.
Silver Blades - The only mundane way to remove the Bindings of Samson is to cut them with a blade forged from silver. This is fairly simple however, as the bindings will simply snap as soon as the blade touches the bindings.
Dante was an average American teenager with average American teenager problems until the Followers of the Unseen Cataclysm kidnapped them and transformed him into their messiah. Now he actively hunts down the cult members to ensure that they cannot summon their fallen god.
Dante has a minor case of PTSD, and cannot currently activate his gateway ability at the moment.
Dante is the messiah of a doomsday cult, and if he were to take advantage of his position; he might be able to get them to help him with tasks.
Dante heals faster than a normal human, and minor wounds will heal quickly over the course of an hour.
