Re: Alert: Do the Ends Justify the Means? (Row)
Kaiju was taken back by the man's statement. He was not of nobility and apparently such a term was not applicable anymore in this world. It was too ridiculous to be true. Did the dirt world not have people of massive wealth and fame? Where their not people so important that a stranger would not give their life to save them? Even worst, John was not one of those people. The girl grabbed her hood as she tried to process what he said.
Sure it was nice to help people but it was nicer to get paid money and or receive some notoriety. She could of... okay there was no way she was going to die, but she had to deal with that bad smell. It, it was not fair. Still, she did get free bread. The girl had no choice but to sigh.
"I less than peasant, So cannot complain. Really hoped you could link me to more jobs. Not good speaking to people. Hopes and dreams..."
As the two walked backed to the shop the smell of bitter beans and bread hugged her antenna. It was even more pleasant now that she was out of that smelly carriage shop. She could not help by give a small smile. Still she managed to keep her cool. Even if the man was not a noble, she did not want to make a fool of herself around him. He however decided to test her nerves with complement and, even better, a reward.
"Co Co! But that, such a rare food. Did not thing I did perform so good to be rewarded one of Aurina's most expensive treat," the girl fought the urge to cheer with the biggest smile on her face. This world is different. To think a peasant class person could easily get such food. She had to accept that this world was different, both good and bad.
"Thank you Thank you."

Re: Alert: Do the Ends Justify the Means? (Row)
The claim of being lower than peasant was mildly off-putting for the anarchist, but for a moment, he elected to leave that there. As they reentered the cafe, he gestured to their previous seats suggesting she sit a moment as he returned to the counter.
Before he could order, the woman behind the counter gasped. It took a moment for him to remember but the clerk had seen Corey before taking a backhand to the face. The young man now sported a visibly misshapen cheekbone from the blow, though the lack of a bruise under his left eye likely convinced the police it was an old injury. Now though..."Hot cocoa aaand..." The off-duty thief scanned the menu, looking for something Dorylus might like more than buttery bread. "How 'bout some éclairs?"
Knowing not to ask too many questions, the clerk poured a cup of hot chocolate and set out a carton of pastries which Jardin easily stacked and returned to his table. "Here you are..." he said, setting the food down as he slid back to his own seat. The copious amount of chocolate between the sweet drink and pastries would likely flabbergast the alien woman. She did, after all, seem to believe chocolate was a high status item. Hell, it may well have been once but now?
After taking a moment to see if his coffee was still warm, Corey decided to cycle back to the subject of class. "You should know; if you're going to be spending any period of time in this country, you're automatically a 'peasant.'" It was a simple statement. Still, he wondered how Dorylus would take it.

Re: Alert: Do the Ends Justify the Means? (Row)
Kaiju watched as the white cup was filled with the warm brown liquid. Focused to make sure ever drop made it into that cup. The girl did not even noticed the shift in expressions as people saw the battered man. She would not be able to really link it either with outside help since scares and bruises were praised in her world. Finally, the lady was done. Steam danced above the cup before being capped by a white top. Emerl swallowed her excess saliva in an attempt to avoid drooling. Then John offered her an "icklair."
Her mind was in overdrive. She was already getting chocolate and now another treat as well. What was this icklair. Was it even fancier chocolate? Was it a fruit? Her antenna (the bumps in her hood) bobbed around anxiously despite the girl's best attempts to remain still. Her heart thumped. Her hands trembled. Her mind stood on the edge of sanity. If this was a trap, a trick, then she was done for. Only the promise of hot co co kept the girl from just rampaging through the store. Oh wait, she had to respond. With heavy breaths, the girl nodded.
With a tray full of food, the girl followed releasing a fruiting smell from her person. Her happiness triggered her instincts to mark the area with special pheromones as if to later guide others back when needed. It was an mostly pointless skill since her life as a scout for her mother was long over, but sometimes it made "him" smile so she never completely broke the habit. It was very subtle but those with strong noises or who were just paying attention would pick up on the pleasant smell. Finally it was time to eat. The girl pulled the warm cup to her side of the table and grabbed one of those icklairs.
"Mmmhhh," another wave of pleasant fruity smells released from her body, "Has... Has the cream inside!"
As the man brought up the class thing. This world was different sure, but she did not buy that statement. Sure, did not have to hide because of the hostility between her homeland and Aurina, but she did not feel safe around normal strangers. Part of it was because of her previous actions. The other was due to how different this world was. if it was this easy to get something as valuable as chocolate however, then maybe there was some merit in what the man said. After all, he claimed to be a peasant.
"Understand, understand. Same to you. Same to me. Don't dislike me. You dont fear me. Cause am not threat. Dont dislike you. Dont fear you. Cause you not threat. Both peasants. Dirt world is not Aurina."
The girl smiled lifting her hood so her face and crimson hair could more easily be seen. Then she smiled and raised her cup. After inspecting it, she managed to pull the top off and a blast of heat blew into her face.
"Hot... hot... too hot."
She tried to blow on the drink but heat still radiated from the drink. How was she going to enjoy the drink now?

Re: Alert: Do the Ends Justify the Means? (Row)
It was unfortunate that most shops insisted upon using scalding water to prepare their beverages. Still, the girl had not even tasted the drink yet and Joshua suggested, "If you sip slowly, it won't burn, otherwise you can add cool water to bring the temperature down." He continued to sip at his own bitter drink before admitting, "Or you can wait a minute."
It had taken him a moment but one of his oft-forgotten senses directed his attention elsewhere. Looking up, the man sniffed the air. A somewhat fruity odor filled the air and a part of him knew where if came form. It made sense; Dorylus appeared to be part insect so such odd ways of communicating seemed fitting. Still, it begged the question; "Who, exactly are you trying to talk to?"

Re: Alert: Do the Ends Justify the Means? (Row)
Kaiju shifted her eyes to the man across from her. He was able to drink the hot liquid.
"Sip slowly," She repeated, slowly raising the cup to her face. Very carefully she slipped, almost making a slurring noise. Her eyes opened, surprised that such a technique worked. Another wave of fruity scents seeped from her skin. She took another sip before eyeing the pastry. It would be the next victim of her gluttonous appetite.
She took a big bite, trusting her friend's choice in food. It was like heaven was laying on top of a fluffy cloud. Everyone was so sweet, rich, and cool after the hot cocoa. She could eat here forever. Everything was perfect and not many people crowded the spot. It did not take long for her to finish the treat and now she wanted another one of those leftover curved breads from early that day.
"Confused. Not talking to anyone. Only enjoying treat. Is really good. You should eat one too!"
She picked up a pastry and offered it to John. They kind of were his but he seemed focused on something. Was there a problem? Maybe he was not hungry.
"Not hungry? It is really good. Better than anything in my world!"

Re: Alert: Do the Ends Justify the Means? (Row)
He let his earlier comment go unanswered; Joshua had forgotten that the girl was inexperienced with subtle language and comparing scent signals to speech may have just been destined to miss their mark. Instead, he took the offered pastry, eating it slowly; though it did not aid him in a fight, the meta had a strong palate and tended to find many flavors overpowering. The eclair was a bit aggressive, the cream seemed too sweet at times...one of the few drawbacks of his powers.
He remained mostly silent as he finished the pastry before unwrapping his hand. While the bruising had long since vanished, now, even the mangled skeleton had mostly straightened itself out. Sugar help to feed his healing, though it was faster now than normal. In a similar fashion, the bones in his face were already in the process of righting themselves as the overlying muscles and tissue pulled them back. He tapped his cheekbone, joking "Why can't it do that all the time..."
"Anyway, I was thinking of heading out. You feel free to finish this-" He gestured toward the table, though quickly snagged another of the buttery croissants before continuing. "Though don't be surprised if you end up the center of attention on the news later..." He left his coffee unfinished, slipping his jacket back on as he headed toward the door...

Re: Alert: Do the Ends Justify the Means? (Row)
Emerl quickly returned to eating another treat. She would not look back up until the man drew attention to his face. Confused squinted her eyes why chewing a mouth food of bread. Then she saw he had no bruises on his face.
"Do what? Nothing there?" she mumbled before swallowing, "Face looks like never fight? Ah. Get it. Recovers fast. Really fast. Faster than Aurians. Is Cool. Very Cool."
A smile grew on her face. It was good to know some people where not as fragile as she thought. Maybe on day she will find a earth person who could make her act serious. Aliens did not count though. Aliens cheated. Then the man quickly grabbed some food and said it was time to go. It was not until he mentioned the news that Emerl made the connection.
"New... No no. Dont like News. Brings troubles. Many troubles. Brings more blue people." She whined while covering her face. Her body started oozing with the smell of cinnamon.
"Must leave too. Must go..." Emerl grabbed the tray and put as much food as it could hold since the man got what he wanted.
"Bye Same as me John. Don't let news get you!"
Finally, Emerl smiled and ran off with the food.
