Those who know Caspian, would describe him as happy-go-lucky, air-headed, and a bit of a dreamer. He’s always caught up in his thoughts, and spends long hours looking up at the sky and daydreaming. His friends are constantly having to “pull him back down to Earth” as sometimes he can get so distracted, or absorbed into his own thoughts, that he wanders into a wall, or misses his bus. While he can be really distant and air-headed, he’s really caring about those who are close to him.

That compassion for others has manifested itself in various ways through out the years. With a passion for art, Caspian often volunteered at an afterschool program for elementary school kids, to teach them a little bit about painting (his chosen medium.) In fact, voluntarism is something he strongly values in life, and longs to be a compassionate person for all of his life. Gentle, clam, and soft-spoken, Caspian hopes to inspire others through his acts of kindness and through his art. While some may view his optimism or altruism as weaknesses, Caspian draws on these traits in times of trouble to give him strength.

Because of this drive to want to help others for nothing in return, it seemed only natural for the boy to pursue heroism after his abilities manifested themselves after his sixteenth birthday. Although his powers are not flashy nor are they exceedingly powerful, he tries to use them to soothe people—even wrongdoers, instead of fighting them. He is hesitant to fight people or use his power to harm, as pacifism is also something he believes in quite strongly. The few times that he had to rely on combat instead of peacemaking, left him feeling really upset. He knows that he’ll probably have to find away to get over this, if he ever wants to be a real hero, but it really scares him to fight (and he’s not really all that good at it.)

This pacifist approach has caused Caspian to get into some dangerous situations—he has thrown himself in the way of people (be they civilians, heroes, or villains) to try and stop them from fighting—either by using his powers, or trying to talk them down using de-escalation techniques, and his powers are usually more effective. He yearns to be a bastion of peace and kindness—as long as he can get his head out of the clouds.


Caspian Thomas Heathcliffe was born on June 23rd to Helen and Augustus Heathcliffe. Born into a life filled with privilege and love, Caspian’s early years were filled with tenderness and happiness. As a child, Caspian was afforded anything he desired—as being the member of the Heathcliffe family, which was famous for their contributions to the field of medicine, allowed young Caspian to live life without a care in the world. Growing up, Caspian was always getting into trouble at school for daydreaming and nodding off. His parents often wondered if he was completely present when talking to him, and though they tried to rein him in at first, they eventually gave up and accepted that their son lived somewhat in his own world. They just hoped that it wouldn’t lead to any serious trouble. Caspian was allowed to stay at his elite private schools mostly because his parents used their name to persuade headmasters to keep him enrolled—Cas never really cared about that kind of stuff; instead, he wondered about the world around him; and fantastical situations that would never occur. During his youth, Caspian discovered his love for art, especially painting, and began to take up the hobby.

Caspian’s life of ease was thrown into chaos shortly after his sixteenth birthday. The normally spacy boy had wandered away from his family as they were visiting New York City. As he was from Greenwich, Connecticut, he never really experienced a big city before. The bright lights and bustling city were cause enough for Caspian to wander astray. As day turned into evening, and Caspian still wandering, not knowing where he was going, he didn’t expect that anyone would try to take him. Recognizing Caspian as a member of the Heathcliffe family, two armed men abducted Caspian with relative ease, and held him for ransom. The crooks demanded over a million dollars for the safe return of Caspian (which by then had caused quite the media buzz), and to show that they were serious, pressed the barrell of a gun to his forehead. The normally relaxed Caspian was completely terrified now. Cas believes that it was this stress that activated his metagene. Suddenly, the room filled with a light blue mist that smelled strongly of lavender and jasmine mist, seeming to generate from Caspian himself. With a loud thud, the men dropped to the ground, knocked out cold. Caspian would later find out that his powers were the excretion of certain scents that had varying effects on people.

After finding out about his metagene, Caspian started to become obsessed with practicing with it. So often was the Heathcliffe estate (and family) affected by various aromas and their accompanying emotions, that they cleared out the old servants’ quarters which were detached from the house, for Caspian to practice with his metagene. After training through the years, Caspian can control his fragrance emission with relative ease. He has discovered five scents so far: Sleep, Calm, Confusion, Susceptibility, and Anger, each with their own unique scents. Caspian doesn’t know how many different scents he’s capable of producing, but is always trying to experiment (which often yields no new results.)

Now in college at Princeton University, Caspian has been inspired by other metahumans who have taken up the mantle of superhero. He really wants to be like those he sees on tv, and believes that his powers can be used for good. Caspian has made the short trip from Princeton to NYC several times to try and engage in “hero work” which has resulted in him stopping a few burglaries, muggings, and assaults here and there—real small time stuff. Caspian still has the dream to be a top superhero, and with New York City now basically destroyed, Caspian figures that there’s a lot of hero work to be done. He wears a masquerade mask and loose fitting clothing just in case any pictures of him got out—he doesn’t want his family finding out what he’s doing, as they would likely bring him home and confine him to the estate if they knew that he was flouncing around New York City trying to be a hero.

Pheromone Manipulation via Fragrance: Caspian has the power to emit fragrances that inspire emotions in those who smell it. It can vary in potency depending on the amount of energy he exerts. It requires a large amount of energy to sway the psyche of  a strongwilled person; and the amount of time the target is affected is dependent on how potent the initial inhalation was (the longest time Caspian has been able to affect someone was 20 minutes, and that was at maximum potency.) He has been able to emit five different scents that inspire different emotions: Calm, Sleep, Rage, Susceptibility and Confusion. Caspian is immune to the effects of his own scents. He is currently learning how to shape the direction of the scents he emits, mainly so it doesn’t affect any of his allies or innocent people. The scents manifest themselves as a coloured mist (it grows in saturation depending on the potency.) Calming (light green), Sleep (light blue), Rage (Red), Susceptibility (yellow) and Confusion (purple.) The fragrances excrete from his pores. POWER IS PERMISSION BASED

Telepathic Resistance: Caspian also is naturally resistant to telepathy, and those who attempt to read his mind usually only see haze, and hear static. It is not absolute, and an experienced telepath would be able to probe his mind.

Caspian’s powers are very susceptible to weather/atmosphere of wherever he is. Strong winds scatter the scent, rain and snow suppress the scents, and humidity can affect the potency of the fragrances.  When adverse weather occurs, he has to increase the potency of his fragrances, which quickly depletes his energy.

Caspian also has to keep his emotions in check, as they can cause him to subsconsciously emit fragrances that can affect those around him. In a fight, he has to keep a level head, or he’ll run out of energy, or inadvertently affect others around him. Caspian struggles with this a lot, as he is an emotional person who wears his heart on his sleeve. It has taken a lot of discipline to be able to turn off his emotions during conflicts—and he isn’t always capable of actually doing so.
Caspian’s telepathy resistance depletes as his energy decreases. When well rested, he’s able to decently fend off mental attacks; but as it is used, and as Caspian becomes worn out, Caspian’s mental resistance depletes. When he’s asleep or unconscious

Caspian doesn’t have really any important items, but he does wear a purple masquerade mask that covers only his eyes. He doesn’t believe in carrying weapons, preferring to resolve conflicts peacefully; or when he has to fight, he prefers using hand to hand combat, though he his not very good at it.

Caspian sighed softly as he peeked around the corner. He was sure that he heard the group in front of him discuss how they were going to rob this guy’s house. Unfortunately, it was all too easy for this to occur, as New York City was currently in a state of dilapidation. Caspian was lucky enough to live away from the city, since he went to college in New Jersey; but he was still close enough to hear about the massive destruction that had occurred, and to witness the influx of evacuees to the city. Caspian wondered if the Big Apple would ever be restored to what it once was, and if it was, he was sure it would take the work of great heroes. Completely believing he’d be one of those heroes, Caspian took it upon himself to try and stop crime in the remnants of the city.

Turning the corner carefully, Caspian darted behind an overturned car, wanting to overhear any potentially useful information. Caspian tailed the men for several blocks, hearing only snippets of conversation. Because getting any closer would reveal his prescence, he figured that he was going to have to tail these men until they carried out their heist. It was going to be a long day, he concluded.

After almost three hours of tailing the would-be criminals, Caspian tensed when he saw one of the men pick up a large stone and hurl it at a window, causing it to shatter with ease. Alright, here we go. He thought to himself. Hopefully, this could be solved without any conflict. Creeping up closer, Caspian began to excrete the sleep fragrance, choosing a medium potency. He heard a loud thud as one the men went down. Wanting to check on the status of the other men, he turned his head around the bush he was sitting behind, but instead of looking at his progress, he caught only the blur of a quick moving fist, which soon met his face, and sucker punched him. Disoriented, Caspian struggled to rise to his feet, managing only to get about halfway up before being tackled by one of the men.

Caspian was terrified now, as normally he just put enemies to sleep or suggested that they leave the place through his fragrances, and this was only the third time he had been confronted physically. His irises now a bright shade of pink, he excreted the maximum potency of his susceptibility fragrance, almost directly in the other man’s face. Cas was already starting to feel the exhaustion from using such a high potency. But Caspian was terrified “Run away and never come back! And take them with you!” He yelled in the other man’s face.
Almost immediately, the man got off of Caspian, and looked to his fellow criminals, motioning for them to follow him. Though they looked quite confused (and the man who had been put to sleep looked even more disoriented) they followed him. Though the three men were gone, Caspian had the feeling that they wouldn’t be gone for long. Even at his most potent the susceptibility fragrance never seemed to last long—especially because it didn’t seem as if the other two men were affected by his sleeping fragrance.

With the time he did have, he knocked on the door rapidly “If you can hear me, you should get out of there and call some other hero or something because they’re gonna come back I’m pretty sure!” He sort of blurted out through the door, before sprinting in the other direction. If they did come back, they were probably going to kill him. At least if he warned the other people, maybe they could call a real hero, or at least a stronger one. His body was exhausted, and there was no way he could fight in his present condition. He was so upset that his endurance had vanished so quickly. Once he was a safe distance away, he plopped down on a bench, mentally cursing himself for being so weak.
