In the Shadows [CAIN]

Jack grinned his evil grin. It was time for yet another round of Jack’s dreamland adventures. He had thought about all the targets he could hit. Really, he could hit anyone in the world if he wanted to. But, honestly? None of the options rushing through his head fit. Political targets would be silly to hit in the night. It's not like he cared enough about politics to go after them for legitimate reasons, and his illegitimate reasons would be just as good somewhere else. Besides, the White House had a ward around it blocking entry through mystic or metahuman means.

Going after the wizards that had gotten him fused would be suicide on the astral plain. He was pretty sure they were protected as well. However, while he wasn’t necessarily suicidal; there was one target that seemed super eligible for his targeting.

Cain Vulsore, the Lord of Shadows door was pretty well guarded. It was locked many ways from Sunday and guarded by Dreamons. He was honestly not surprised though. The lord of shadows was supposed to be one of the top supernatural badasses in this world. Once he had unlocked the last key however; he kicked down the door and beheld what Cain was dreaming of.

The Lord of Shadows seemed to be having a nightmare. He was human, and his beasts seemed to have turned on him. Heh. This is perfect. Exactly what Jack needed.

Jack extended his arms towards Cain and gave him a bear hug. ”Cain, my new friend! Thank you so much for the beasts! It’s great to finally meet you. Too bad you just had to be a tiny little weakling.” Jack cackled, and then decided to give Cain a nice bear hug. ”Oh, wait. You’re Italian. My bad.” Jack then proceeded to smooch Cain on each cheek before making the scene change to something more of Jack’s liking. A haunted forest.

”Let me taste that fear, Vulsore.”

In the real world, the Lord of Shadows body twisted and turned, it had been a while sense he had a nightmare. One would think someone as powerful as him wouldn’t have anything to fear. He was on top of the food chain, literally. The few in the supernatural world that dared to defy him were few and far between and their faces never saw the light of night for more than a couple of days at most before they were either killed or brought under heel. He was the King of Darkness, the ruler of the creatures of the night, the Lord of Shadows. What did he have to fear? The fear of losing it all for one. The fear that it would all come crumbling down around him. That he would no longer be as powerful as he was.

That was the dream, or nightmare, that was coursing through his mind this morning. He was in the abandoned amusement park racing through it, trying to escape the horde of creatures chasing after him. Everything from a lowly gremlin or shadow monster to all kinds of lycanthropes and the eldest of vampires. Stuck as a normal human he didn’t last long until they found him. Until they started to circle him, closing in on him with vicious grins resting upon their faces. Mad cackles escaping the lips of a few of the beasts. “You can’t do this!” He roared the shadows no longer answering his call. “I am your King! I am the Lo-“ his voice was cut off by the laughing and snarling as they closed in. The voices all around claiming he was no Lord of Shadows, he was a spineless, pale, pathetic human.

Before the monsters of the night could kill him though a different voice broke through the chorus of howls, snarling, and laughter. A pumpkin headed demon of some sort extended their arms to Cain and wrapped him in a hug. Thanking him for the beasts and claiming he had always wanted to meet him. Once more calling him a weakling. Embracing him in a hug before he could protest and kissing him on the cheeks. “What!?” the scene shifted. No longer were they in the amusement park but instead a dark forest. Now, no one would ever claim that Cain Vulsore was the smartest person in the room, but he wasn’t necessarily an idiot and was able to put two and two together. Somewhat.

He wasn’t entirely sure what was going on, but he knew whatever was going on was wrong. Had a hint of magic to it, and was definitely connected to the pumpkin head. “You want fear!?” He called out snarling, clenching his fists together. He was going to kill the fool for thinking he could ever cross the Lord of Shadows. “I’ll show you fear.” The fiend was nowhere in sight but that didn’t stop the New York Vampire from stalking out through the forest. Human though he may currently be, he was going to kill the thing. And when he got his powers back he was going to bring the thing back to life and torture it for weeks before giving it sweet release.

Jack laughed as Cain called out to him. "But how can you do that, Vulsore, if you can't even catch me?" Jack flew higher into the night sky. Illuminated by the light of the moon and his own glowing head.

"I gotta say, Mr. Lord of Shadows. I didn't expect for you to be so defenseless here. Aren't you supposed to be the one who owns the night? Or is that just something you say in your real life to make yourself feel better about being a puny weakling?" Jack cackled again and commanded his creatures forward.

The monsters seemed to disappear momentarily as they moved.
