To summon a Hellbeast

Synopsis:

The New Path's occult division, long considered a joke at best and a waste of resources at worst, is on the cusp of a breakthrough (again). Most of the higher ups laugh it off, wondering if they'll just have another room full of dead goats, beheaded chickens and everyone getting high off the "spirit herbs". However, this time, they find someone with ties to the old ones... and something definitely happens.

Cast:

New Path Occult Division - the Path's collection of occultists, psychics, espers, magicians and other such mystics. They actually have some measure of magic power, but nothing that exceeds conventional heavy weaponry.

Joseph Pratt - a man in his 60's, having learned alongside his depraved brothers the true dark arts. He teaches the New Path's occultists a true ritual to call forth an outsider, a murderous hellbeast.

Samantha Pratt, AKA Dabbler - a girl who vanished 20 years ago, and returns due to the summoning ritual. The aforementioned murderous hellbeast.

About the New Path Occult Division, I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with them having any kind of magic power. Are they really necessary to the story?

Instead, couldn't we say that Joseph Pratt and his cultists are being funded by The New Path in secret. The Supernatural division isn't big enough, or successful enough to have real psychics and mages running around. Instead, they're investigating existing cults and psychics who claim to be supernatural. However, most of them are con artist or pretenders.

So far, the only real deal happens to be Joseph Pratt. Perhaps he is the first of many.

So when Samantha is summoned, what happens then?

You want her to go crazy and kill Joseph after she learns of his identity?

The division not having power works too.

Samantha acts crazy but not murder-crazy for the most part, realizing she's home. Maybe javian can even come and offer grats and beers.

Then someone mentions Joseph's name.

Then murder-crazy begins.

Alright. So the joke of the organization actually provides results, and of course Javian gets the report.

He comes down for a visit, and they show off their little hell beast. This is Pratt's big chance to get big money from the organization.

Then Javian says, "Congratulations, Mr. Pratt."

Or something like that. Does he have to say Joseph?

By the way, if my character's organization did a background check on Joseph, would he learn about what had happened to your character? The mysterious disappearance?

Also, could it be possible for Javian to discover Dabbler's identity? Then this could be a secret double cross. Javian turns Dabbler on Joseph, then tries to recruit Dabbler personally. Literally, cutting out the middle man. What do you think?

Records will likely list Samantha has died 20 years ago when she disappeared, though under very mysterious circumstance.

Dabbler might also disassociate from the 'Samantha' identity, but still get triggered by the Pratt name.

So far so good.
