Here's an idea: perhaps once per thread or arc or story or whatever, a character could do something that they would not normally be able to do, such as lifting something that would be much to heavy for them to lift normally, or recovering from an injury much faster than usual.

That is literally what RP is for, Thoracto.
You RP out events your character does, and occasionally, they do something that they normally couldn't do. That's why you get EXP per thread, and can use it for advancements later.
Of course, if someone is doing this every thread, it's just them being a god-modding douche.

It's all permission based when it comes to those things, by the way.
And it should be discussed or tag an OOC message at the end of your post like...

You can also just, ya kno, PM your RP partner and decide what to do, or make an RP planning thread if you want certain things to happen.
