The Legacy

Personality: He's a real wild card

History: Born as a gypsy, John was raised surrounded by mysticism and tarot cards. And it turned out he was a natural at the art. The elder of his group decided to take him on as a full time apprentice. She taught him all she knew about the art of tarot and reading the cards, and it turned out that his natural efficiency with Tarot cards travelled over to regular cards too. By the age of 9 he was a master of poker, and it took him only a week to completely master the ins and outs of any card game they introduced him too. He was even a pro at snap.

Eventually, when he was 18, he spoke to his mentor about learning Magic. She told him to steer clear and that the only thing that magic leads to is despair. But John had read about what Magicians could do. He'd messed around with simple card tricks that anyone could do, but it wasn't enough. He felt as if he'd been born to master cards, and master cards he would. It took him some time to work up the courage but eventually, he stole a book from his mentor, about demonic entities...

He read through it's pages and eventually decided what he would do. He snuck off to the woods near his caravan site and found a tree stump, with a completely flat surface. He spread the book out on it, and presented the things a certain ritual required. Wealth, dishonourably acquired. He placed a necklace he stole onto the stump. A tool for bargaining. He placed an Ace of Spades onto the stump. And, Something for which you hanker for dearly. He placed a picture of Mary Sue, a girl from the camp onto the stump. Each of the objects were arranged as if they were at the tips of a triangle. He then spoke, quietly. "I want to make a deal." He heard an eerie whisper, and smelt what he recognised as money. He felt a taste in his mouth, as if he were sucking on a coin. Looking over his shoulder, John saw a well dressed man, who would be handsome except his nose was grotesquely pointed, sat at a mahogany table. "Sit." He motioned to an empty chair opposite, and John nervously moved to sit down. "I am Mammon. And I heard you wanted to make a deal." Mammon adjusted his tie, and motioned his hand, created a misty appariation of Mary Sue. "Do you desire her John? Do you wish for her heart to belong to you and only you...?" John felt uneasy. He hadn't told this figure his name. "No, I... I want to be able to do Magic." Mammon positioned his fingers into a pyramid. "Magic? I'm assuming you mean actual magic and not parlour tricks, yes? That's easily done." Mammon placed a sharp, grey nail onto a blank piece of parchment and slid it towards John. While it moved, words quickly scribbled on it and created a contract, with a large underscore for where he had to sign.

"What's the cost?" John asked. He felt like he was going to be sick but this figure was equally calming as he was unnerving. "Oh, nothing much... just your soul. It's not even that important to you right now,  you won't even miss it." Reaching forward, a quill slithered out from the flesh of Mammon's palm. "Sign the contract and I shall give you the power of a Magi." John hesitated and took the quill. He quickly signed his name and pushed the contract back to... Mammon was gone.

John looked to his side and this tall, thin, flesh coloured dragon like figure stood on hind legs beside him. It quickly grabbed his throat and lifted him into the air. It's other hand extended a grey, sabre-esque talon and stabbed it into his chest. There was no blood, no pain, only a golden glow where it penetrated his body. Slowly, it dragged the talon upwards and John felt a sickening cold spread upwards. The talon came out through his face, and from his eyes came a grey mist, which curled upwards and wrapped around Mammon's hand, before being inhaled through his nostrils. "Pleasure doing business with you John." The dragon disappeared, causing John to fall 6 feet onto the ground. When he landed, some playing cards slipped from his sleeve. He inhaled deeply, trying to catch his breath. There was white liquid dripping from his eyes. He heard his mentor scream and run to him. The rest of his camp came soon after. He passed out.

He woke up a few days later. His vision was greyed out, but colour was slowly coming back. He could see his mentor. She was not pleased. As soon as she saw he was awake she marched over, and slapped him. Hard. Alot. She then immediately hugged him, swearing at him and asking how he could be so stupid. In the midst of beating him, she yanked back his shirt's sleeve and revealed that he now had a large scar along the underside of his forearm. It was the signature he'd written on Mammon's contract. She showed him his eyes and hair. His green eyes and red hair had changed to a milky white and platinum blond. It had actually happened. Mammon had to have kept his side of the deal. When his Mentor left to go and tell the rest of the camp he was awake, he tried it out. He found he could conjure cards at will. He flicked his hand and sent a card flying across the room effortlessly. It sliced a vase in half. "Wow...."

He was called outside. His camp members were... not happy. His Mentor explained that they were worried he was a demon magnet and would bring all sorts of dark forces to them. He needed to leave. Heart broken but understanding, John went and packed his stuff. He didn't even get to wish Mary Sue goodbye; her father had told her to stay away from him. He already regretted making the deal.

John travelled. As time went on, he practised more and more with his powers, learning several of the ins and outs. Although he could use his powers to gain wealth and cheat and lie and gamble his way to money and a small amount of fame, he never let anyone get too attached; He was convinced he was a demon magnet and would lead dark forces to them. He took up the name Solitaire, a game to be played alone. He missed his home. He plotted, and planned and schemed. There had to be a way to undo what he had done. Maybe he could offer Mammon something greater than his soul in return. Standing, John struck his arm out to the side and his clothes flew to the wall in the form of playing cards. He stood, wearing a much more flamboyant get up. He was going to undo what he had done. He was going to get his soul back. All he wanted was to go back to his home. His family.

The Powers and Weaknesses

Spells:

Solitaire can turn any playing card into another, with some of them having special effects -

Ace of Spades - A magically enhanced card, cuts like a super razor, capable of easily slicing steel. (Blackjack: Sends out 6 at once.)

Two of Diamonds - When thrown, encases it's impact point in a thin layer of diamond. Can stack several times to increase diamond's strength.
(Blackjack: Covers the target with a larger field of Diamond)

Three of Clubs - When thrown, explodes into a small fireball. Basic fire bolt.
(Blackjack: Larger burst of flames.)

Four of Hearts - When thrown at anything that isn't a human, it is a normal playing card. When thrown at a person, it dazzles them for a few seconds. Misty hearts swirl around their head for the duration.
(Blackjack: Enslaves the Target.)

Five of Spades - When thrown, explodes into several thousand tiny shreds of paper, creating a mystical smoke screen.
(Blackjack: Smoke screen is larger, creates silhouettes of Solitaire for stronger deception)

Six of Diamonds - When this card comes in contact with diamond, it causes it to explode like a Gemstone c4.
(Blackjack: The explosion happens as normal, but then smaller explosions after a short delay. A mini carpet bomb)

Seven of Clubs - When thrown, sticks to a anything like metal to a magnet. After three seconds, lightning strikes the card.
(Blackjack: Lightning strikes the card 6 times.)

Eight of Hearts - When thrown at a human Target, this card sends them into a fit of terror for 7 seconds. (Blackjack: Generates vivid illusions of their fears.)

Nine of Spades - When cast, surrounds Solitaire in a tornado of cards which block incoming projectiles. Can block 5 at most. (Blackjack: Blocks 8 proectiles rather than 5)

Ten of Diamonds - When cast, allows Solitaire to alter the shape of existing nearby Diamond. (Blackjack: Solitaire can achieve low level manipulation of Diamonds for a 5 seconds)

Jack of Clubs - Solitaire can use this card to do various things, from opening card based locks to paying as if it were a credit card. It is a jack of all trades.
(Blackjack: This card has no Blackjack effect.)

Queen of Hearts  - When pressed against a wound, slowly causes it to heal over several minutes. (Blackjack: The healing happens over a much shorter time, changing minutes to seconds.)

King of Spades  - Creates a black, glowing sphere around Solitaire which reflects projectiles. (Blackjack: Allows Solitaire to create either a stronger field, several fields or one larger field.)

Joker - Solitaire disappears into a swirl of playing cards, reappearing within 180 metres away inside his field of vision. This teleportation range can be much larger to enter and exit threads.

Joker - Creates duplicates of Solitaire, 4 of them. All have access to the Ace of Spades and the Three of Clubs. The are almost identical to Solitaire, except two wear black coats and two wear red coats, each with a different suit on them. (Blackjack: Creates 8 clones.)

Blackjack - If the last 3 cards he cast add up to 21, The spell effect of the next one is enhanced.

terror and enslaving cards are permission based

Weakness(es)

Weakness 1: Fold - Solitaire can only use a maximum of 2 cards per post, with the exception of Aces of Spades, he may throw 3 of them per post, in addition to 2 other spells, as they are so basic.

Weakness 2: Card Counting - The last 3 cards must add up to 21 for him to cast an enhanced spell. While it sounds simple, circumstance may not always deem it beneficial that he draws 21.

Weakness 3: Gambler's Fallacy - Solitaire can't resist a game of chance, so bargaining and betting with him can often lead to his downfall. He will always say yes to letting a card game settle things.

Weakness 4: Gambler's Ruin - "A gambler with finite wealth, playing a fair game will eventually go broke against an opponent with infinite wealth." Solitaire has human physiology and will get tired, meaning that superhumans or even extremely fit humans will eventually out sustain him.

Weakness 5: Wet Cards - If you get his cards wet, he is unable to cast spells. Fortunately they dry out a magical speeds but it will still disrupt him quite heavily.

RP Mechanics

RP Mechanic(s):

Tarot - Solitaire is capable of reading Tarot cards to interpret the past, present and future. (Plot related.)

Card Tricks - Solitaire is the worlds best card magician, capable of effortlessly performing extreme magic with cards and small pieces of paper. Granted, he cheats and uses actual magic, but still he doesn't need to.

Cold Deck - Solitaire has always got another card on him somewhere. He has some very clever hiding spots. And some very magical ones.

Poker face - Solitaire is an exceptionally good liar.

Card Sharp - Solitaire cheats, so rarely loses.

Suit - Solitaire can magically change from regular clothes to his solitaire getup.

Soulless - Solitaire isn't in possession of a soul, hence his milky eyes.
