The Legacy |
Personality: Cheerful and confidant, Jonathon is a true example of the english gentleman though he has adapted a bit to the changing times. He is also a charmer and womanizer that will never insult a female he meets and more likely will complement them often, nor will he ever physically harm one if he can help it because of his old fashioned values. He prefers not to fight directly, though he is very skilled with swords and is a fencer, as he does not want to dirty his hands… and if he feel he could get hurt or killed he will run away causing many to label his as a coward. He is knowledgeable of the past and since he has experienced much of history , especially its magical side, he can come off a thinking he knows more than he does. He also loves stories, finding and retelling them, and is not above trying to turn his life into a tale of mystery and danger. This ‘loveable rogue’ image he plays though is part of a mask, as this is only what he shows on the outside. Inside he is very troubled as well as having a fear of getting close to anyone. He has a noble heart though and tries to keep idealism alive but he cannot let go of his past. He blames himself for his family’s death and wishes for his life to be as it was… not looking to the future or allowing new friendships to develop, nor will he allow himself to fall in love. History: (History is very long... I apologize for that) Jonathon was born in the early 17th Century England. When young, it was clear that he was a prodigy, when he first picked up a violin, Jonathon learned how to play it in less than half the time it took his peers, and he mastered this instrument at the age of 10. He later branched out to other instruments like the flute, the clarinet, the piano and the harp. He started composing beautiful pieces of music at the age of 17, but he soon found this tiresome. He then started schooling outside of England with a focus on Writing, English, History, and fencing. It was here that he found a love of reading, not only history, but also fables, fairy tales, myths, legends, and most other works of fiction. It was during this time that he discovered magic, and in a short amount of time, he could create physical illusions of the creatures and characters from the books he has read. By this time, about thirty years had gone by since he had left his family. When he returned to his family, they feared him as it was clear he had not aged since they say him last. Jonathon was forced away, shunned by the only family he knew. It was around this time that Jonathon saw he could not age, nor could he ever grow sick. Many would have seen this as a blessing along with his prodigy-like abilities, but Jonathon saw it all as a curse. Jonathon was foolish, though, not understanding everything this could mean… like when it came to falling in love. Her name was Gabriela and she was a true beauty. Kind, loving… she believed in him, understood him, and even accepted the fact Jonathon was different. It was the happiest time of his long live. They had three wonderful children, and because of Jonathon’s skills, they grew to live comfortably and had no worry for money, but it all ended in tragedy. The people in the town they lived in grew suspicious of the fact that Jonathon had not seemed to have aged a day in the years he and his family had lived there. A mob was formed and, while Jonathon was out on an assignment for his work, they broke into his home. Working towards killing his wife, thinking she had married a devil, and also killing his children, as they thought they were half breed spawn. Jonathan returned from work during this time, and after seeing what they had done, flew into a cold fury. In his fury he brought forth three of the most dangerous and terrifying monsters his imagination could bring forth, ones that showed his rage, his pain, and his sorrow, created with the dark magics he had chosen before never to use… But he lost control of them, and watched as they started destroying the town and killed everyone in their path. He was horrified at what he had created, and to make it even worse… his wife was not completely dead yet, forcing her to see the evil he could make. When Jonathon knelt by his wife’s side, he saw she was still alive, and he tried to save her… but she turned away. She said she could never live with, nor even love, a man that would create such evil, and said that if Jonathon really loved her, he would let her die. After much pleading, and trying to have Gabriela change her mind… he finally agreed to what she asked, though it hurt him dearly, and as he watched her die… a part of him died with her. Jonathon swore to himself he would never fall in love again, nor would he ever use his magic to cause harm to any but the most evil or dangerous of villains. He also promised himself that he would never allow himself to grow so angry as to cause himself to bring forth his inner demons again. He also promised himself he would find a way to destroy these inner demons he had created. Years flew by like a blur, but they were not peaceful, as the demons he had created tormented him still. Jonathan gave his demons the names Irascor for rage, Volnero for pain, and Aegrimonia for sorrow (actually this names are Latin for what they are). He continued to improve his skills, and his learning in both history and the magical arts. Through the years he has stepped forward to help forces of good, but he never made any true friendships, except his familiar Aesha, a being that usually takes the form of a bat though she can take human form, who he found during his travels… she became his only friend. Nor did he allow himself to fall in love, as he feared a similar tragedy to that of his beloved Gabriela. He also learned many languages in his travels around the world. Yet his troubles did not end with just that, oh no… After what would have been the 40th anniversary of Jonathon’s marriage to Gabriela, Jonathon finally gives into his longing. Using the same arts that Jonathon had used for his inner demons, and his powers to make physical illusions, Jonathon tried to bring his wife back into his life. This, understandably, ended badly… he succeeded in creating the prefect image of his wife, down to every detail… But it wasn’t her… it looked like her, but his wife’s personality, her soul, was not there. He had created an abomination of his wife… with Aesha’s help he was able to drive his Longing away, barely escaping with his live. The reason why is that, though Longing was not his wife, she had the power to draw Jonathon to her. She calls him into her embrace… but the day he does, he knows that she will bring her claws into his heart. Jonathon chooses to stay out of most of the conflicts between the heroes and the villains, only fighting when a villain shows himself to be of a significant threat to the world or a country. He will take time to save an innocent life, though, and he will also fight crime here and there, but Jonathon will usually try to stay away from most trouble. Jonathon has been known to appear around the world to showcase his skills. For example, he will often perform with his musical abilities, or in a magic show. At other times, he may give one of his more impressive displays, his storytelling skills backed with his illusionary art, actually showing his audience the story as he tells it. He may also take a woman he meets on an unforgettable evening, showing her chivalry has not died completely from the world, but he always makes sure never to go too far, as Jonathon fears what might happen, and he will then disappear when the evening is done, never to be seen by the woman ever again. Has no true ‘home’, but instead has many places of rest all over the world, yet at the same time when he is physically hurt or feeling heart sick he does go back to his old family’s home resting in his childhood room, a house that he had bought after they had all passed on. |
The Powers |
POWERS Versatile Illusions: Having spent centuries mastering the art of illusion, there is little of this branch of magic that Jonathon cannot do. His power can range from simply taking on a different appearance, to creating an illusory flame that if believed in can be felt, to changing the very landscape around him, to even bringing to life a story before the eyes of others. These images can fool the sense of smell, sight, hearing, taste and [with permission] touch. Illusionary Summons: As an extension of his mastery of illusions, Jonathon has learned to create summons or constructs of pure magic which are physical in nature built from his inner reserve of mana and energy. What he most often bases these summons off are figures and creatures of legend, folklore, and myth. With this power, he is able to call forth a dragon, a ninja, the dread Fenrir, even many other things. Though not as effective if disbelieved, these illusionary summons can actually attack and harm any that are before them, offering an effective offense based on the strength of what is created. Portals and Teleportation: Jonathon is able to create door shaped portals of swirling magic as well as teleport in a puff of smoke. In threads they must be placed on a surface, however if it is for a plot or an entrance/exit, they may be generated in thin air and used to traverse huge distances. He may also teleport up to a maximum distance of 300 feet in thread, however as in entrance/exit he can travel a much larger distance. Spellcasting: Through long practice and study, Jonathon can learn and memorize a variety of spells from a spell book. With access to this spellbook, along with time in which to study and memorize from it, he can cast a certain number of spells each day. (Will choose up to 9 spells for now, each with the same three weaknesses) Memory Fog - With this spell, he can have it that others forget they saw him or not remember their meeting with him very well, to have their memory be fuzzy and uncertain when thinking back on their encounter with him. Invisibility - With this spell, he can completely hide himself from detection whether normal senses, metahuman senses, or supernatural senses of those of lesser level than his Magic level. Does not work effectively on technological sensors or video cameras, able to catch his form if it is a bit blurry. Protective Shield - With the casting of this spell, he can create one of two shields. One protects him only in one direction and is strong to last against a few blows against even the strongest with super or metahuman strength, while the other is fully enclosing shield which is only good against bullets and explosions. No matter which shield is used, both can be broken with a strong enough force, and in such situations where its breaks this will send him flying, Restrain - With this spell, he is able to bind and restrain one or more opponents. Has a strength comparable to either rope or chains, yet greater bindings able to hold those with meta/super human strength is possible with more mana pushed into the spell… even then the spell may well be broken if the strength of the opponent is just too great with backlash on the caster. Release - In many ways counterpart to Restrain, with this spell he is able to have the binds or locks holding another to fall or come undone. This works without error on mechanical or magical bindings/locks yet technological versions are often much more difficult if not impossible for him to undo given his lack of knowledge and understanding of such things. Twists and Turns - If being chased or pursued by another or a group, he is able to with the casting of this spell throw them of the trail by taking a wrong turn to going another path which may well lead them. to a dead end or cold trail. This, like other spells, will be less effective against those tracking him through modern technology yet the spell is strong enough to still throw it off a bit. Knock - With but a knock on the surface and the casting of this spell, he is able to effect a door, chest, or safe with relative ease unless such is connected to a computer or makes us of a microchip. This can be used to open or close doors, unlock or lock them among others which hinge or lock of some sort. Fireball - With a snap of his fingers and a spark with the casting of this, he is able to create an explosion of flame that detonates in front of him out to a distance of 10 feet. This ball of fire is large indeed, able to hit an opponant’s head and upper body, burning them with shearing flames. Yet one agile or fast enough can dodge this spell if they see it coming. Light - With the casting of this spell, he is able to create strong illumination out to 20 feet or less. Anywhere from that of a strong flashlight to that of a candle, he can use this light in dark places or perhaps to try and blind anyone who comes to close if cast quickly. If used at the wrong moment, this spell can also give away his location to any looking for him. WEAKNESSES Human Physiology - Physically, in strength and toughness, Jonathon is that of a human who exercises regularly and eats right. Against many, if not most, supers he would not be able to go close combat or go to blows with them as he has not the super human physical ability of such individuals. These means, unless Jonathon knows that he can do so without getting killed, he will avoid putting himself into harms way and fight at range or through deception. Creator's Drain - When making use of his illusionary summons, Jonathon will as time goes on experience greater and greater drain to the point of exhaustion or even fainting if he is not careful. This can also apply mattering how much punishment his creations are taking in combat meaning he will need to try using them as effectively as possible or he puts himself at risk in drawn out battles. Magic Dependent - Having relied for so long on his magic and the powers there of, Jonathon's capabilities and abilities are greatly weakened anywhere that magic or magical abilities is repressed such as by null fields, technology, magic, or other such situations that negate magic. Under such conditions his Spellcasting, Illusions, and Illusionary Summons are inaccessible/unusable. SPELLCASTING WEAKNESSES ----------------------------------------------- Spellbook: Reading from his spellbook each day to mesmerize the spells that will be cast is a necessary component of his spellcasting, and without it does not have access to this power. As such lose of his spellbook is a serious matter and will be sought after until found. If destroyed, it takes a number of weeks to fully recreate at his library. Learn & Forget: Spellcasting represent a kind of ‘stored magic’, which must be prepared in advance of actual use, and each prepared spell can be used only once before needing to be prepared again. Mana Use: By making use of his own internal energy and magic, Jonathon is able to power the casting of his spells. If he uses his magic too much or too often, he will run out and cannot cast any more spells without rest. |

Re: Jonathon Wilder, Eternal Traveller and Performer
Your portal should be the basic spell, your teleport has to be a Low spell.
Fog is fog, not exactly a movement impairing thing. I suppose it could make it difficult to see where you're stepping, thus causing slow movement out of natural instincts, but that's up to the RP.
You need to decide how long each spell lasts, then determine the cool downs.
Low Spells: x1 cool down
Med: x2
High x3, Ultimate x4, etc.
Cool downs are subjected to be discussed if the spell, despite level, does not require such a severe cool down. But cool downs must exist for spells/etc.
Everything is p okay, save for that.
Also, his Illusionary Summons would only allow him to summon only 1 type of create at a time, and the grid is static for the creature summoned, no matter what it is, so decide upon a grid that covers a level 7-8 "ABI" summon. The summoning system should explain how many points are available for that level tier summon. The spell does not allow him to summon multiple creatures unless you decide upon lower tier grids for those particular summons. And as such, I'm going to put a cap of 3 creatures with a 15 point grid, maximum stat being 5; and only 1 level 5 stat. That is, if you choose to have multiple summons per that one spell.
EDIT: His Illusionary Summons would allow him to summon either a level 7 Tier or level 8 Tier:
Level 7 = 4 Creatures (no stat higher than 7) [22 point grid]
Level 8 = 3 Creatures (no stat higher than 8 with max one 8 stat) [24 point grid]
But not both.

Re: Jonathon Wilder, Eternal Traveller and Performer
I will add what needs to be added, and change portal and teleport around.
Tbough I do have a question on what you have given for Jonathon's Illusionary Summons, is that four/three each with 22/24 stat points or total those points?

Re: Jonathon Wilder, Eternal Traveller and Performer
You can either have Tier 7 summons or Tier 8 summons with your Illusionary spell. So you can summon four creatures with a 22 point grid [ each ] and no stat higher than seven, or three creatures with a 24 point grid [ each ] and no stat higher than 8; and only one level 8 stat.
Once you get that fixed up, I believe you'll be good to go. c:

Re: Jonathon Wilder, Eternal Traveller and Performer
Currently I'm using my phone to type this, though I should be able to it edit my original post some time today.
Now then, I was wondering if you'd be willing to give your thoughts on my character and how you feel he has been made.

Re: Jonathon Wilder, Eternal Traveller and Performer
Updated, though it may still need some work. Tell me what you think Alpha, and perhaps you can offer suggestions for how I should have Illusionary Summons work. From what I have been told, there are a few supers with summoning powers.
