Personality: This character is a very "layered" character. He views himself as quite simplistic, however what people know of him and how they treat him often times is based upon prior experiences and knowledge of this individual. He is known for being a ruthless leader of a Metahuman supremacy group, but further more he is known for his cold and calculating though process. He was always calm, very rarely did he ever feel threatened, and his greatest weakness was actually his inability to see a threat in anything that was in opposition to him. He is known primarily as "The once king" and is mostly known for having been a rich, successful man whose influence and power went ot his head.
In all actuality, Raja is actually a rather subtle and quiet man. He is an individual whom (despite his crimes) holds himself with good posture and conducts himself in a way that makes him a paragon to social skill. His very presence is held in high esteem and he is often times to be percieved as intimidating (though it is uncertain if this is him, or the knowledge of the things he had done which stimulates this response.) Despite whatever people believe it is clear that whenever Raja speaks it is because he has a reason for speaking and is not one for "idle chatter". Raja is a highly intelligent man and contrary to how many people portray him, he is a sympathetic and understaning individual with what one may identify as a good heart. Raja is also a much wiser man than he was when he committed the crimes he had, and he has a genuine guilt and sorrow attached to his deeds. He is not a man afraid of making mistakes, and encourages not only himself but others to see mistakes not as failures but as lessons that were waiting to be taught.
The only "truth" that people are told and honestly know about is his infamous glare of disapproval which is said to be a rather unnerving thing to be on the recieving end of.
History: I'm feeling rather annoying today so I've decided to break the history section up as an interview of sorts. Basically all you need to know is...
Half Indian Half African who has dual citizenship in Canada and the US. He is responsible for a grand plot and scheme that ended in a lot of bloodshed. This event was called "The Annihilation" and racked up a body count of 8364 people. Raja was captured and detained by an enigmatic group and then rehabilitated with his powers dampened to standard Metahuman levels. They put this supposed sociopath out on the streets to prove that a secret metahuman rehabilitation initiative would actually work.
- Spoiler:
Smanatha Sheirheir sat, nervously sitting and twirling her pen as she sat there silent. Across the table from her was a man who could once move mountains, a man who sounded a rallying battle cry throughout his country and pushed governments to a near collapse and anarchy. Cult leader. Revolutionary. Monster. He had been called all these things, he WAS all these things. Yet here he sat, across the table from her. She was here to interview him, to do as she always had a journalist... to uncover the truth. She had endangered her life so many times before for the sake of pure and unbiased truth in her work. Though she had never been more frightened than she was right now. Sitting in the same room as HIM.
Raja Anniha, or more commonly refereed to as "Annihilation" by the more common people. Samantha wasn't even sure people would know him if she used his real name in her news package. Her breathing was shallow, as if she were afraid by using his oxygen it would irritate him. But he just sat there with one leg crossed over the other causing a few crinkles in the crisp white suit he wore. The smile he wore was a disarming one to say the least, though perhaps if nothing else it was a lie to lure her into a false sense of security. Her hands wouldn't stop shaking, for the first time ever she was too scared to write or take notes. Luckily she could reach into her business attire and withdraw a small, black saucer shaped device. Setting it on the table she pressed the small button and a nearly transparent holographic sphere appeared, hovering over the black device.
"Alright." Samantha said before forcing her throat clear and taking a deep breath in, keeping her professionalism to an optimum, despite her fear. With another nervous clearing of the throat she would look to the man dressed in the celestial white finery, peering from behind her thin dark plastic framed glasses. "Mister Anniha. Could you please recount for us who you are?" She said, as she spoke the mostly transparent sphere projected spikes of more intense glows. One who was familiar with the device would know that it was a simple gauge of the machine's receptiveness to the audio that had been leaked.
The smile faded slightly as he shifted. Samantha couldn't help but jump, knowing that at the slightest motion this man had the power to destroy the entire building they were in. No survivors. Her heart even seized, clenching and then violently pounding against her chest with anxiety. She could be certain that if she were not dead by the end of this interview, fear and anxiety alone would have taken a good ten years. Raja then let out a heavy, and quite audible, sigh before he leaned back, his dark skinned fingers intertwining as he looked towards the ceiling. His eyes narrowed for a moment. Then... he finally spoke.
"My name is Raja Anniha. I am a metahuman with the powers of Telekinesis. I'm responsible for inciting a treasonous riot which turned into a political movement. I was defeated and detained by four Heroes that I will not name. I was then taken into the appropriate custody for detention and rehabilitation." The man in the white suit said as he smiled and nodded, after the fourth nod his head continued to fall until his amber colored eyes fixated upon Samantha, the curved smile on his lips still faintly there. Samantha sighed as she found herself left with more questions now. Who were these four Heroes? Why wouldn't he reveal who they were? Beyond that he said about being taken into the appropriate custody. Just who was the appropriate custody? Who could possible be armed enough to detain a man who could move mountains with his mind?
"Okay. You won't say who these...unsung Heroes are. But can you at least tell us whose custody you were placed in?" Samantha asked. To this the man's smile became much more prominent as he shook his head. So he wouldn't answer that either. But now it was a matter of searching for truth. Was he unwilling to talk about it, or was he somehow manipulated in a way that he couldn't talk about it. "So you won't say....or you can't say?"
"I'm not allowed to say." He answered, his eyes closing before nodding at her, his eyes opening again. The man still smiled, but something in Samantha seemed to understand that he was trying to convey a message. Something in his eyes, in the look he had was virtually saying "Drop this subject". She couldn't though. She needed the truth, and she wouldn't stop until she had it. But there was indeed hesitation within her. If he were not allowed to say then what and how did anyone or anything get leverage over Raja, so much so that kept him from speaking his mind? Surely it was something powerful, or something clever. Maybe even both. At this moment Samantha needed to decide. Was the whole truth something to die for? Or perhaps she should take what she could get and salvage the rest another day.
"Very well. Mister Anniha, people all over the world are going to see this. Many of them lost loved ones. Many of them are not at rest. Some of them were your followers, some of them were victims of your grand vision. But no matter what anyone says or does they're all left with the same lingering question. The hardest question to answer. Mister Anniah...if you could please answer this question for them. "Why?" Why did you do as you did?" She asked him. Of course she had to have known that Raja wasn't going to answer that question. Or once again he couldn't.
"I'm afraid no answer I give is going to be a suitable one. There is no cause on Earth worth selling your soul for. I wish I could tell you everything. I wish I could justify myself and my actions. But I can't. My actions are my own. I own what I've done, I am the God of my own mistakes. I will never be forgiven for what I've done. I can only hope that I may die as so many others have died because of me." He said simply as he looked to Sam. He smiled, a reminiscent smile almost. His comments were...compelling. Depressing to say the least, but compelling.
"And how is that Mr. Anniha?" She would attempt to prompt an elaboration. Much to her relief he would answer, as this was apparently not part of the "classified" information.
"Fighting for the right thing. Giving everything and paying the ultimate price...to stop a monster." He said. The tinkle in his eye was gone, all life from the amber orbs seemed to fade as Samantha looked upon him. She was truly afraid of this man, but in that moment she saw something else. Something she had seen several times, but a face she did not immediately place. It wasn't until he let out another sigh that she managed to recognize the look.
"You feel guilty." She said, though the admission was more her thinking aloud, he being taken aback by what she had processed. Raja just took a chuckle, maybe two little seconds before nodding. "So, Mr. Anniha. Can you tell me then, if you feel guilty about what you've done, surely you must have known it while you were doing it. You could have stopped sooner, why didn't you?" Samantha would press on. This was no longer a simple story about potential meta-human rehabilitation. This was truly a story about getting behind the mind of a monster. This was about uncovering why thousands of children were left without a mother, or a father, or both.
"Because I could not see what was right in front of me. I didn't see the pain and suffering I was causing. I saw a means. A temporary suffering to a greater world I was ushering in. I didn't see myself as the Villain. To me and all those I surrounded myself with... I was the Hero. I stood for those who had no voice, I brought them the promise of a new day. I knew that if everyone knew what I stood for they would join me, they would see. But...Eventually I truly became the villain. I didn't care anymore about the promises of a new world. I dare not blame what I've done upon my powers. But the control, the influence that power brings is a tempting mistress. One that I, in foolish youth, submitted to." He said still keeping a perfectly calm composure. But Samantha was rattled. She needed to know why he believed people would follow him, and most of all she needed to know WHOSE voice was he representing. Who had he surrounded himself with. Why did he go to such extremes?
"So the people you stood for. The same people who gave you the name Annihilation?" She asked. He rolled his amber eyes but chuckled all the same. The name was an old relic to him, not one that he wanted to think of any longer, but a name he knew would haunt him until the day he died.
"Yes. I'm sure you've noticed but my last name is very close to the beginning of the word Annihilation. The name was given to me after I gave a rallying speech and I said it was time to set aside out differences and annihilate the system that kept us segregated. After that speech we held an entire city under siege. In out victory as I passed I heard the chants "Annihilation! Annihilation!" and it just seemed to stick. It was a name that inspires fear, and it was a name that was symbolic of the message I was trying to relay. Though most people and my enemies would only know that it was my name. They would see no hope in it because they did not know of it's origins. It was the perfect one-way mirror. My people saw through it and saw hope. Others looked into it and it was a dark and cloudy thing, ominously mysterious and all around disheartening." He explained. His explanation only intrigued Samantha of course, she was hit again with the desperate desire to know who and why he was fighting. From how it sounded it was a means to end some form of segregation, for equality of sorts. It also made it sound as if he were fighting a "system" as if he were protesting. If this were true, if he were telling the truth, then she would have just uncovered a truth that the public did not know. It had always been assumed that he was targeting humanity to kill them all, but if he were specifically targeting a person or a select persons... well that would change things greatly!
"Mr. Anniha... Who were you speaking for?" She asked. He sighed and shook his head with an almost apologetic smile. As if he understood her need for answers but was still unwilling or unable to give them. Samantha let out a long sigh before tucking one of her stray dirty blonde locks behind her ear. "Is there anything that you can tell me? Whomever pulled these strings to you has you unable to say quite a bit it would seem. I'm not certain what I should as or if I should even bother trying." She confessed, exasperated by the fact that she was guaranteed a strings-free interview...yet her she was talking to a man who was essentially Pinocchio. She sighed and went to apologies when he stuck up his hand. She immediately silenced, fear washing over her yet again, but yet he still smiled.
"I can tell you that I am going to be released." He said, immediately a sense of dread fell over her, wondering how such a person could be released.
"R-released? I was certain you were given a life sentence." She seemed to protest, which brought Raja a bit of satisfaction.
"I was. While I served my life sentence I sought rehabilitation. My powers were dampened an-"
"Impossible, it was made public that they didn't have the technology to dampen your powers." Samantha interjected, her heart racing, wondering now if what she knew was even truth, or if her entire knowledge on the subject was based upon lies.
"Very true. They didn't when I was incarcerated. However there was one such individual who knew the means to dampening my power. One person who told them how to take the teeth from the bite of the dog." He said with an amused tone. But Samantha couldn't understand why he was so amused, was he toying with her, or was he simply happy that someone was seeking his side of the story?
"Then who? Who told them?" She asked leaning forward on the table some, pushing her glasses back up the bridge of her nose. Her question was answered with chuckling, and she couldn't understand what he found to be so funny. But slowly the gears clicked, it locked into place. She shook her head as she finally realized the answer to her own question. Who better to know the secret to dampen powers than the one who wields them? "You? Why?" She asked, genuinely interested as to why he would be willing to give up unrivaled power.
"Because I wanted to be rehabilitated. I wanted to change, to fix the damage I have done. But I knew they wouldn't trust me. They wouldn't even give me the opportunity unless I was willing to do what none would expect me to do. To let go of the power I held so dear." Raja said with a smile and a nod. Samantha was left in shock and awe as she tried to understand what all this would mean. Not just for Raja, but for the world. "I have been deemed as rehabilitated. While I am still as strong as many metahumans, I am nowhere near the ungodly levels of power I once was. I will be placed under constant observation and I am given a handler that is able to shut my body down at any moment in time. There is no need to fear me because this time...I truly am here to help." He said with a smile as he leaned forward, pushing up off the arms of his chair in order to stand. The elderly man still seemed rather full of life, though many could argue it was perhaps because of his power somehow.
"Wait! Mr.Anniha, one last question." She called. To her surprise he stopped and he turned to face her. "The Annihilation was a grand slaughter of 8364 people-" She was immediately cut off however.
"6358 Men, 1979 Women, and 27 Children." He said his eyes downcast for a moment. "There is nothing I could ever say or do. I am a monster. I don't deserve forgiveness, I don't deserve sympathy and most of all I don't deserve redemption. I know what you think of me. I know what you all think of me. Regardless Miss Sheirheir, This is the bed I have made for myself and I WILL lay in it when the day comes... but for now, the monster has given his leash over to those who can hopefully make something of this travesty that is known as Raja Anniha."
There was nothing else to say as he turned and walked away, bidding Samantha a good day as he walked through the doors with two armed escorts, strolling down that hall. The doors shut and Samantha was left with only a revitalized curiosity.
