Demon in the city of stars
It was a hot day, like most in Los Angelos, and Entei was doing everything he could to cool off. Walking around the town in a sleeveless, band shirt, and khaki shorts, he looked just like a normal teenage boy walking through the crowded streets. Well, except for the black tail that protruded from his body, and swayed gently with his movements. Sipping on a soda, people seemed to part way for him, giving the 'freak' plenty of room, and plenty of stares. At first, the attention bothered him, but he quickly got over that. Hiding his tail felt unnatural, like walking around with your arm behind your back all day, and he really hated when he had to do it. Though, they could also be staring at the blue sword sheath that was slung loosely over his back, for all he was, Michael was not subtle.

Re: Demon in the city of stars
"That'll be twelve dollars and twenty-two cents," mustering up all the kindness she had left, Uzma leaned over the counter holding two ice cream cones for two brat faced kids standing next to their mother.
The mother smiled back and started digging through her purse to count out exact change. A paper money user was so rare nowadays. It was more valuable than the credit or debit everyone else was using. Uzma waited patiently, and looked up from the woman when the bells to the door rang out. The girl coming in to cover her shift had finally shown up.
"Aye girl!" Uzma waved to her, and she gave a shallow wave before coming around the counter and stepping through the swinging door to the 'kitchen' area.
The woman finally got the twenty-two cents together and handed it over to Uzma with a final smile before waving her kids to sit down at a booth.
"All right! I'm outta here til tomorrow!" Uzma called, peeling out of her apron and taking off the little ice cream hat. She left on her name tag, however, and snatched a caramel candy from the jar on the counter. She walked to the back and emptied her locker. There was a small wallet that she slid into her back pocket, and her phone that she slid into her front pocket.
Even though she was not from this world, she had technically grew up here, so she had to become accustomed to the everyday cycle of American life.
"Oh, Uzma!" called the girl covering her shift, her name was Sarah or something.
"MmnYeah?" Uzma asked, raising a brow as she turned to look at her. She had already popped the caramel into her mouth and flicked the wrapper into a nearby trashbin.
"I might need you to take my shift for earlier tomorrow, my niece has a ballet recital and I need to be there for her," Sarah said, slipping into her apron and tiny icecream hat.
"Yeah, sure, just mark it on the schedule and send me a text to remind me, okay?" she said, inching for the door.
"Alright!" perking up, Sarah made her way out to greet the line of customers that had piled up, a chubby man ringing the bell for assistance. So impatient, but ice cream was great on a hot day like today.
Getting out before two in the afternoon was an even better day.
She made her way out of the shop and came crashing face first into a guy she had never seen around here before, and she knew all the regulars, even the old man that came at ten in the morning every day.
"Whoa! Watch where you're going!" she said, coughing on the caramel candy.

Re: Demon in the city of stars
Walking through the scathing streets of L.A., Michael quickly found himself overtaken by the pure heat of the day. Quite ironic for someone who regularly found himself engulfed in flames that would make molten lava look cold, but, the was neither here nor there. Itching wearily at his ears, he scanned the signs of the buildings he was walking by until he found one that caught his fancy. It was for an Ice cream shop, and it brought a child like grin to his face. It had been years since he had partaken in a cone, and the memories that were brought back caused him to zone out for a minute, the outside world completely oblivious to him. Perhaps that's why he hardly noticed as he ran into the girl who was exiting the shop he had found himself absentmindedly walking into.
"Woah! watch where you're going!" The girl had coughed out.
"Hey, I-" Michael had started to call out to the girl, before his world had finally snapped back into focus. Not only as it a girl in front of him, but it was a cute girl. Just fantastic. A small blush spread over the younger heroes face as he watched the girl for a small moment. "Er, nevermind.." he managed to get out through layers of anxiety. He was still quite new to the opposite sex, and was glad he managed to get that much out.
"Ey, love birds, move it!" A man called out as he pushed past Michael and the girl.
"We're not... Well..." Michael once again stutters out, his tail swaying anxiously.

Re: Demon in the city of stars
She looked him over after successfully saving herself from choking on the hard caramel candy. She crunched it between her teeth, making an obnoxious sound before chewing the rest of it up and swallowing. One of her fierce, slender brows rose in a curious fashion at the guy in front of her, now able to focus on him and not her life hanging in the balance, the scale tipping because of a stupid caramel.
She was clad in her work uniform for the Little Sweet Shoppe, and Icecream Parlour. The pale yellow and blue striped short sleeve polo shirt with a blue collar and trim around the sleeves and hem clothed her torso. There was a spittle of whipped cream dabbed on her shirt just over her left bosom, but above that was her name tag. A golden tag with her name scribed into it, along with a golden icecream cone. The actual ice cream on the cone was colored white with blue and yellow sprinkles. Her lower half was dressed in simple white shorts that came to just above her mid thigh. The colors of the uniform only made her mocha skin look even more rich.
She turned her attention from the guy as he said nevermind to only hear another man call them love birds. Had they been gazing at one another as if they had fallen head over heels? Uzma highly doubted that and rolled her eyes.
"Haha, excuse me? Shut your mouth old man. Move along, now." she sneered at the old guy before turning to look back at the younger individual before her.
He looked the slightest bit youthful, but that was easily overlooked in comparison to his tail. That thing caught her attention really fast. With her jaw slacking in awe after a few moments of staring, she finally pointed it out.
"Hey, you have a tail." the blatant observation made her want to pinch herself, because that meant this kid was some kind of meta human.

Re: Demon in the city of stars
"Hey, you have a tail." The girl finally said, causing Entei to get a nervous smile, and rub the back of his head sheepishly. As he fully came back from his stupor, the smells and sounds of the place he was in came back to him. The girl smelled of Caramel and ice cream, though, Entei noted, that was probably explained by the very obvious uniform he hadn't noticed before. His eyes flicked to the name tag at her chest for a second, well, more than a second, like the very typical sixteen year old male.
'Uzma is her name, eh?' Michael thought to himself, before engaging himself in the conversation again, he was quickly realizing he was making this silence last much, much too long.
"Heh, yea, I do have a tail." He said, reaching back and pulling the extra limb forward, making it much more clear. "It was a...birthday present from my Dad, I suppose you could say. It's pretty fun to watch people's reactions to it, though, the fur does get a bit hot.."
Releasing the tail, Michael stuck his hands casually in the pockets of his shorts, hunching his back and staring slightly awkwardly at the girl. It wasn't on purpose, more of a habit than anything. Since he had started hunting demons, he had learned that almost everyone held some sort of secrets, and with his enhanced sense, he could generally make something out. But this girl, held nothing beyond the sweet scent of caramel coming from the candy in her mouth.
"I'm sorry, excuse my rudeness." Michael said, extending his hand towards the girl. "My name is Michael Krieger, I'm originally from California myself, but I'm visiting from England. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Re: Demon in the city of stars
She blinked, her long lashes brushing over her cheeks while she smiled. The smile was genuine and full as she felt a nervous laugh creep up passed her full, almost pouty lips. The silence was finally broken between the two of them while the city sidewalk was still very, very much alive.
Her eyes caught the sword attached to his back finally. How had she not noticed it before? And the pointed ears, and even the pointed canines. Was this kid some kind of professional cosplayer? It was kind of impressive. The authentic look of everything made her want to give him a big thumbs up, but when he mentioned the fur made it too hot. The fur was only really on the end of his tail. The end. So how would it feel hot at the end of his tail?
She swallowed and cleared her throat a tiny bit before smacking her lips and clapping her hands together simultaneously.
"Ah, well, I bet that must mean you have some reaaally deep set daddy issues, huh?" she said after his introduction, but went on to say, "Must be nice living in England. I live here, and I'm from South Carolina," she finished, one of her own hands coming up to meet his. She had an assortment of bracelettes and a few rings on her right hand. The one on her thumb was her favorite; a thick band with a cross and a few stars etched into it. It was something she got from a cheap costume jewelry place, but it went well with her normal attire. Not her work uniform.
Finally being so close to him, she noticed how incredibly good looking he was. Sharp features, gorgeous eyes, and a strong jawline. His little crooked grin was a nice touch, and even the makeshift fangs were a nice touch. (She really hoped they were fake.)
"Uhm..." she went blank for a moment before nodding at him and stepping passed him.
Her hips swayed with her quickened pace, and she was not going to look back. She felt her face become red hot out of, what was this feeling? Embarrassment? How could she be embarrassed? Was it because he was so cute? Or perhaps she knew no one would truly be interested in her. Keeping her pace for a few moments, she finally slowed down to a relaxed walk and sighed, her eyes catching sight of the comic shop she had really wanted to visit weeks ago, but never got the chance to do so.

Re: Demon in the city of stars
Entei smiled innocently at the girl, holding out his hand to shake hers, and even introduce himself. That was, before she took off like a bat out of hell. Turning with his hands in his pockets, he watched her walk away for a second, before getting a deep, wicked smile on his face. Like a normal person, he could have just taken off after the girl. Ran up, called out the name on her badge, and struck up a conversation. After all, that was how normal people got to know girls they thought were cute. With his profession as a host, it would have been a cinch for him too. However, Michael was not exactly normal, in neither looks, nor personality. Picking up speed, he headed towards one of the alleyways between buildings, making sure the strap to his sword was secured to his chest, he jumped into the air, grabbing onto a railing to a fire escape someone had conveniently left lowered.
"Thank you for being incredibly lazy, L.A.!" He cheered to himself quietly, using the strength of his arms to pull himself quickly up the ladder. Stepping onto the guard rail, which was put there exactly to prevent this kind of behavior, he leaped forward, reaching out to grab the brick trim of the build. The protrusion was barely enough to slip the length of his bent fingers ontop of, but Entei manged with a large grin as he shimmied along to the front of the building. Getting quite a few looks by now, he swung his body out, sending himself flying through the air. Moments like that, are why he loved parkour, it gave him a sense of freedom he couldn't find elsewhere. After all, even demons dream of flying every now and again. He reached his target as soon as he began his descent, a sign for a hair and nail salon. Neon, and rather large, it would be the perfect 'roosting' spot for him.
After he had pulled himself onto the sign, despite cheers of distress from the citizens of L.A., and crouched on it like an assassin about to strike, Entei raised his nose into the air, taking in a large sniff. His enhanced senses from his demonic body sure came in handy, as he quickly found the caramel scent of the girl. Training his eagle like vision onto her, he leaped from sign to sign, following behind her. Honestly, how she hadn't noticed with how loud and obtrusive he was being was beyond him. Perhaps she was the type to zone out while they walked, he sure knew he was. The girl finally stopped in front of a comic book shop, which had a small pole hanging horizontally out from under it's sign. Perfect.
'Oh, a girl who likes comics? I can support that.' Entei thought to himself as he climbed, down the sign. He was really grateful the girl was zoned out, because the look on her face would be priceless. wrapping his tail around the pole, he lowered himself down in front of the girl until he was face to face with her, upside down, suspended from the sign. "Ya know, it's kinda rude to just leave without giving a guy your name, or at least a number."

Re: Demon in the city of stars
Sifting in her pockets, she found her headphones and plugged them into her phone and blasted one of her favorite songs. The melodies coupled with double bass lines and amazing synth stole her sense of sound. She was no longer suffering from the honking cars, people on the sidewalks, and other ruckus going on around of her. She was on a mission to walk and get to that comic book shop. Her gait had a little bounce as she walked, her ballerina flats padding against the concrete as she made her trek.
She was about to cross that last bit of her path to enter the comic shop when that stranger from earlier, Michael?, swung upside down in front of her. He was suspended from the sign over the comic shop, and this whole scenario had her almost jump out of her skin. She stepped back, first and foremost, startled. Yanking the ear buds from their snuggled place in her ear canals, she finally felt the sounds of Los Angeles swallow her back up.
"What the HELL?!" she pressed her hand to her chest and doubled over, breathing heavily. Her heart was racing. "WHY would you do that to me?! Jeeeeeze," she said, and then looked at him. His words had been lost because of how loud her music was, and she just stared at him blankly before speaking again. She had finally relaxed herself a bit, and her heart was slowing in pace.
"You must really want my name and number or something, huh?" she said, raising a brow. She still had no idea he had said that, however.
"Well, my name is Uzma. And I don't know if I want to give my number to you. You're causing a scene!"

Re: Demon in the city of stars
"Well, if you gave me your number, I wouldn't be causing a scene anymore, now would I?" Michael said with a roguish smirk on his face. Releasing his tail from the sign, he twisted his body in mid air, landing on his feet in a crouch position, the palms of his hands on the ground to steady himself. He rose to his feet to the cheers and claps of the people who had seen his act of acrobatics, which he just tuned out. That was one of the benefits of his heritage, not only did it increase his ability to read and react to his opponents moves in a fight, it also gave him the agility to do so. His demon body made simple feats like that mind numbingly simple to him. something that had not been true just a few short months ago. Brushing off his pants, he stared at the girls eyes again. He hadn't noticed before, but they were quite beautiful. They had a depth to them that seemed almost...mesmerizing? They were certainly unique, he had never quite seen a girl like this before.
"You could also tell me why you just walked away from me." Entei said with an innocent smile. "I know I had the steak and onion sandwich for lunch, but I swear I brushed my teeth afterwords!" He joked, trying to break the tension between the two of them. He honestly had no idea why he stopped her from walking away, he had quite enjoyed that sight to be honest, but something made him want to get to know her better.
"How about this." Entei suggested, reaching into the backpack in his bags, and pull out a small camping candle, and a lighter. When he traveled like this, he tended to bring survival supplied with him, just in case. Holding up the candle, and pretending to flick the lighter, he used the small amount of power he could muster with his sword sheathed, to light the candle, giving the flame a blueish glow. "If you can put out this candle, I'll settle for just your number. However, if you can't, you have to give me your number, and let me take you to a movie." Holding his arm out, he moved to give the girl the white stick of wax. "You can do whatever you want to it. Step on it, pour water on it, whatever."

Re: Demon in the city of stars
A miniature crowd was now hanging around of the comic shop, and even the people inside was making their way to the big viewing window to see the scene. Uzma swallowed back her nerves and shrugged lightly, a small smile trying to play at the corner of her lips.
"I think it's just you hanging upside down, and maybe the way I screamed so loud," she said, a brow raising with one of her hands falling to perch upon her hip. She stood like this, her weight shifting to one of her feet as she waited for him to fall down on his head. To her surprise, he did a sort of rotating flip and landed on his feet in a crouched position. There was a bounce to his whole form as he landed, alike to a cat or something.
Blinking a bit, she looked down at him, her hand falling from her hip, and her weight shifting back onto both of her feet. She did not step back away from him as he stood to his fee this time, and even had to tilt her eyes upward to look into his. He was very tall, but she was fairly tall for a girl as well.
"I walked away from you? Ah heheh..." her nerves lit on fire as she felt a blush race into her cheeks. The embarrassment came back, and there was no way to hide it. Now that the two of them were just chatting, the crowd dispersed, and anyone that wanted into the comic shop had to wiggle around the two of them. Uzma looked to the side, trying to hide her blush. It was easier than if she were a pasty white girl, she was thankful for that. She found a giggle passing her lips at his next comment about his lunch. It was definitely not his breath. He smelled fine. A little too good, in fact.
"I just, uh, really wanted to see this comic shop," she said, telling a half-lie. Well, more like a half-truth. She really did want to see this comic shop, and she did run away from him, but not just because of him. However cliche it sounds, it was mainly because of her.
She tilted her head to the left, curious about what he was going to fish out of his backpack. She was surprised to see a simple candle, and even so, a simple lighter. She was definitely interested in this little deal, and would have to give it a shot. Part of her wanted to put out the candle to show she could, and the other half of her wanted to just give up so she could have some nice social interaction.
"That's really pretty..." she said, complimenting the color of the flame. The blue was beautiful, and brought a twinkle to her own eye as she stared at the naked flame. The challenge was basic, and she accepted. "Seems easy enough!" she said, taking the candle. Her first choice was to obviously blow it out. But, nothing happened. The flame gently flickered and she blinked, blowing again. She then glanced around and saw a water fountain [ these were standard issue nowadays ] and took the short five feet walk to it. Using her hip, she leaned into the button to turn on the fountain. The cool water came out in an arching stream. She tilted the candle and let the water hit it. She was sure this one was going to work.

Re: Demon in the city of stars
Entei snickered to himself as he watched the girls futile attempts to extinguish the flame. Though, it wasn't really her fault her couldn't, after all, his flames were inextinguishable, even by water. Another perk to being strange, even among pyrokinetics. His amusement grew as he watched the girl try to run the flame under a stream of fountain water, a very rational thought for most people. Willing the flames, he allowed them to wane a bit, making it look like the girl was succeeding, before increasing the power going into them, making them burn slightly larger than before. The crowd, which had still stuck around to see this challenge, broke into a roar of applause. Apparently now Entei was some cheap parlor trick street magician, though, it may pay slightly better than his host job. Finally taking a bit of pity on the girl, he walked over behind her, leaning in over her shoulder, talking quietly into her ear.
"Can I lend a hand?" He spoke quietly, not wanting to yell into the poor girls eardrum. He smiled widely at his own trick, praising himself for his brilliance. In the six months he had his powers, he never once thought to use them to land a date. But late than never, though. "The water was a good idea, but did you really think I would give you a challenge that easy? If I did that, I wouldn't be able to go on a date with a pretty girl tonight, now would I?"

Re: Demon in the city of stars
Furrowing her brows together, she was definitely frustrated now. She kept the candle underneath of the water for a few more moments, then pulled it out after it began to shrink in size. Just as she was about to move it back under the stream, the flame got stronger. Now she knew she was being trick, and she was going to have a word with this Michael fellow about it. She stopped leaning against the water fountain, and turned to walk to him, but he was right there behind her.
Her face was only centimeters from his as he spoke gently into her ear. This simple act sent shivers down her spine, and she was not going to deny it was a nice feeling. She cleared her throat and nodded softly, and gave a show out of the situation. The crowd was clapping because of the candle still being lit, and Uzma was going to make them even more satisfied. She handed over the candle and held up her hands, showing defeat.
"I guess, since I failed to conquer this flame, you get to take me out on a date, Michael," she said, a small smile playing onto her lips as she looked him straight in the eyes. She was honestly secretly excited for a movie date. She really, really needed a friend, or just the social interaction.
"I must make one demand, though." she said, waiting for him to ask what it was.
"I need to go into that comic shop and get a few new issues that Sherpa put out recently. I love all the rich characters the stories have," she then started to head for the door to the comic shop, the crowd clapping and hooting for Uzma's love of comics. It was rare a girl this good looking had a love for comic books and cartoons.

Re: Demon in the city of stars
"I must make one demand, though." The girl said, which caused Entei to raise a brow as he took the candle from her. With a wave of his hand next to the fire, he allowed it to extinguish, smoke rising from where the flame had once been. "And what would that happen to be?" he asked as he slipped the candle and lighter back into his bag, readjusting his sword to it's proper position underneath aforementioned bag. The crowds cheering had become rather loud at this point, and quite obnoxious, and he would gladly do whatever she suggested, just to get away from them. His hands rested gently in his pockets after removing them from his bag, and he stood casually, with his weight resting on his back foot.
"I need to go into that comic shop and get a few new issues that Sherpa put out recently. I love all the rich characters the stories have," Entei blinked twice, surprised at the request. Honestly, he had thought she was the type who just watched the superhero movies that came out, and assumed that made her a huge fan. Maybe she had seen a shirt or something in the shop that would just look 'oh so cute' in a picture she would later put onto some social media site, with some stupid '#nerd', or something to that effect. Yet, here was this stunning girl, who actually not only knew the name of the comic book company, but also when they were releasing the issues. He was impressed to say the least.
"Er, ya, I can accompany you if you would like." He said, finally getting over the shock. With a mock bow, he waved his hand towards the door signaling 'after you'. Following behind the girl, he looked around the comic book shop with very mild interest, if any, at the rows upon rows of comic book characters. It wasn't a hobby he judged, heaven knows he was an avid fan before the transformation and unlocking of his abilities. But afterwords, the world of fantasy just lost some of its interest. Like a professional athlete who no longer likes playing sports video games, when you do something all day, you want to escape from reality in other ways. "So, who is your favorite hero?" Entei asked, absentmindedly searching through random comics. "I always liked the villians myself, they always seemed more humanized than heroes, which struck me as funny."

Re: Demon in the city of stars
"If you plan on taking me out to a movie, I'd hope you can manage coming into a comic shop for a little while," she said, and then added a little snide comment under her breath, "I always assumed guys liked comic shops..." to her knowledge, it was lost among the music playing in the shop, so she was safe from any comments from him. At least, she hoped she was. It'd be weird if he heard it. He'd have to have a super sense of hearing if he did.
The song that was playing made Uzma almost blush, but she ignored it and just fingered through a shelf of new releases. She was gentle with the plastic sealed issues, and even more so when she removed one from the shelf and looked it over. The cover was beautifully drawn, and more so the colors that were brought to life. The illustrator was named N.K. Wells and Uzma envied his amazing drawing style. Or it was a girl, now that would be cool. No one knew the gender of Wells, and that made the art so much better. It was a huge argument among the Sherpa Adventures fan base.
"Man, this is so beautiful," she said, glancing over to Michael with a big cheesy grin on her face. She had no idea why she loved these comics so much. Maybe it was because there was a character in here modeled after her, and it was a new one. Her name was Starlight, and she actually looked really close to Uzma... she was even a black girl when she wasn't in her full fledged hero costume. Now that was creepy. She held onto the new issue featuring Starlight and showed Michael.
"My favorite... Hm... Well, this one guy, they call him Beserk, reminds me of one of the greats that used to protect New York City. It's always weird to me seeing doubles of real life heroes in the comics... but you know, it's also kind of awesome at the same time. It'd be really cool to meet the real guy that Beserk is based off of. His name was Pain, or well, his moniker was. But, what do you think of her?" she asked, showing the new cover of the latest Sherpa Adventures. Starlight looked gorgeous. Her skin was shimmering like a thousand tiny crystals all at once, and the rainbow hue only made her look even more amazing. The black sclera added to her bright green eyes. And looking closer, it made Uzma a little freaked out. It would be best to not let Michael see what Starlight looked like out of 'costume.'
She cleared her throat and and then went on to add more about the villains. "Oh, my favorite villain would have to be the Blue Gentleman. He's this extravagant thief that wears a top hat and uses an umbrella as a sword. He has this really funky kinetic power that allows him to build up energy in the umbrella, making it harder than steel, and hit harder than it, too. He can also fly like Mary Poppins, but sometimes without the umbrella. He even wears a monocle. Oh, here he is," she said, stepping down the rack of issues to the one featuring Blue Gentleman's debut. He looked magnificent with his cloak waving behind of him. His partner, Gentleman Gator, an actual Alligator man, was feature on the cover as well. He, too, wore a monocle and top hat as well as a waist coat and he had a gold watch.
They were so dapper.
"Do you have a favorite?" she asked, playing the issue back onto the rack. She already had it.

Re: Demon in the city of stars
"She's pretty, in an exotic kind of way, ya'know?" Entei answered after he was shown the comic cover. He had indeed heard Uzma's earlier comment, but, he had gotten rather skilled at determining what he should have been able to hear, and what he shouldn't have, so he ignored it. As he looked through the pages upon pages of comics in front of him as he listened to Uzma talk, he began to realize exactly how passionate this girl was. It was a passion he lacked, or at least, had never experienced, and it brought a small smile to his lips, which he did his best to hide by turning away. A small blush came to his face as he slowly began to realize something. He was starting to like this girl. Coughing into his hand to try and quickly cover up the blush, he turned to Uzma, giving her his attention, instead of flipping through the comics.
"Hmm. My favorite comic book character you say?" In that moment, Entei realized something he hadn't known. He knew next to nothing about comic books. He couldn't remember the name of a fake hero, from the rather extensive list of real heroes he had run into since his short time adopting his hero moniker. So, there was only one thing to do in this situation. Lie. He didn't want her to think he was weird for not knowing about comic book characters, after all. "Ah, there was this really old hero my adoptive dad use to have the comics for. His name was Entei, and he was a pyrokinetic. He was an orphan like me, which is why I think I connected with him so well." After a short pause, Entei smiled to try and break the awkwardness of what he had just revealed. "But, enough about me. What are your parents likes?"
