Sexual Content 2: Sexual content is permitted. References and writing about genitalia and sex acts are permitted, but explicit detail is not. Fade to black, or use the dotdotdot rule. (Let's keep it PG-13.)
Violence 2: Graphic violence is permitted. Explicit description or in-game narration violence is allowed.
Despite these ratings, keep in mind that there is a limit, and you should not cross it just to garner attention. Also, resorting to curse words is also like adding senseless fluff to your posts.

Derek "The Shard" Manning
Derek “The Shard” Manning
The world is broken and someone needs to pick up the shards. It just happens to be me.
Basic Biography |
Real Name: Derek Manning Renegade Name The Shard Title: The Reluctant Hero Alignment: Chaotic Neutral (CN) Age: 24 Gender: Male Race: Meta-Human Hair: Brown Eyes: Green Height: 6”1 Weight:191 lbs Blood type: A+ |
The Looks |
Derek’s body is well built without being overly muscular. Naturally his hair frames his face with slight curls but thanks to the hair gel that he uses it is instead held slick. His eyes has a deep green color, but when he is acting as his alter ego “The Shard” and has the time to take them on, he uses white contact lenses without pupils instead.
On a regular day, Derek usually wears one of his slightly baggy sweaters with one of his colored t-shirts under together with some general trousers or jeans. The costume he uses as his alter ego is not very advanced. It is mostly a comfortable set of urban wear in the color scheme of grey, white and icy blue. He has a white scarf that covers the lower part of his face. While he is in costume he also makes it a habit to carry with him a couple of small mirrors with which he can use both his abilities with if necessary. |
The Legacy |
Personality: Derek doesn’t like the concept of good and evil. Hero or villain. Putting himself in one or the other would make him feel like he is forced to live or act a certain way. And he doesn’t want that. Other people might like to call him a hero because of his typical “superhero actions” and predominantly “good” nature. He would more often than not find himself helping the innocent or “siding” with the underdog. Especially lately while on his search for a more fitting title and purpose for him than “hero”. Avoiding attachments have become a second nature to Derek as he doesn’t want to repeat the mistakes of his past. Despite that, a part of him wishes that he could let someone in without feeling terrified of being dragged into responsibilities that he don’t want. That is why wearing his other persona is so liberating, as no one know his true identity. Being a very spontaneous person, Derek usually finds himself in a lot of trouble when acting before thinking. He usually thinks the potential results his actions can bring outweigh the risks. That’s not to say that Derek isn’t intelligent. Rather the opposite. Which is a good thing since he needs all the wits he got to get out of the messes he creates. Sometimes however, the intelligence he has doesn’t always come to good use as he have a tendency to be a bit absentminded and forgetful. This makes it harder for him to concentrate on tasks at hand unless they are interesting enough to actually focus on doing. Mirrors have had a soothing effect on Derek since as long as he can remember. If that is because of the nature of his abilities or for some other reason is up for debate. Derek however, believes it is for their nature. A mirror always shows the truth. No bullshit. No whitewash. He wants to be able to see what is behind the mask or better yet, that there wouldn’t be a mask to take off in the first place. Derek has a loving side to him that he rarely shows to anyone unless he against all odds finds someone that he can really trust. He is generally kind to those he meets and doesn’t mind sharing things about himself as long as it’s not from crucial parts of his past. History: 1996 a boy named Derek was born into the Manning family. He was welcomed by a loving father, a loving mother and an older sister who at the time didn’t share the same love for the little boy as her parents. Derek grew up in Los Angeles and led a pretty normal life. That was until his meta-genes in his system went active. It happened when Derek was 9 years old, he found himself lost amongst the crowd at an amusement park. He followed a girl who he mistook as his sister. Their hair color and clothes being similar. He followed the girl in to a glass labyrinth but found himself even more lost than before. All he could see was reflections of him and after wandering around for what felt like hours; Derek dropped to his knees and started crying. As if the mirrors heard his despair, they all cracked simultaneously and in his confusion, Derek forgot how scared he was. The tears stopped falling. With a clear head he eventually managed to find his way out of the labyrinth. Little did he know that that was just the beginning. Without giving that life changing day a second thought, Derek’s life went on like usual. A life with a loving family, including his sister who had grown to love him. But when he started freshman year, bullies quickly made it their mission to show Derek where he belonged. At the bottom of the social food chain. And all because of his sexuality, which he had never deemed necessary to hide. One time while being chased by said bullies, Derek tried to get away. He ran to the men’s bathroom but was followed. Fearing for his safety, his terrified gaze was unexplainably drawn to the single mirror on the wall. When the bullies opened the door they found the school’s bathroom empty, while Derek found his own bathroom occupied by himself. His eyes facing the mirror that his parents had bought for him years earlier. The years following was filled with unorthodox pranks as he learned to control this new power. He also learned about his other power, the ability that had caused the mirror shattering event years before. The power to manipulate glass. And the more he played around with it, the more he learned. Suddenly, High School wasn’t boring anymore. Shortly after graduating, Derek was approached by a couple of men. The men introduced themselves as couriers from an establishment called Crescent Organization. They offered him a job, telling him that they knew about his abilities. Derek was skeptical at first but after hearing what the men had to say, he reluctantly agreed. The money they offered was great and the job sounded simple enough. He was to use his teleportation ability to send messages to the organization’s clients. At first, the job went great. Derek delivered messages to clients all over the continent. But messages turned to packages and packages turned to orders. Orders to use his ability to steal small items or spy while delivering his messages. Derek had no problem with minor crime, but when he, almost two years into his employment, was ordered to kidnap and then torture a man, Derek saw a darker side of the company that he was a part of. He refused to go through with the order and desperately figured that the only way to make sure that they wouldn’t find him was to disappear. To cut all connections, not only with the company, but with his previous life. With his family. For their safety as well as his own. Unwillingly he used his mirror and left Los Angeles behind. Derek now found himself in Chicago, trying to start over. To start a new chapter of his life. But that was easier said than done. After having his eyes opened to a darker side of humanity, or lack there off, he had a tough time closing them again. Everywhere he looked, he saw individuals being tricked or hurt. He had seen the cracks in society and it seemed he was the one who, when it broke, had to pick up the shards. |
The Powers |
Power 1: Hyalokinesis/Glass Manipulation – Derek has the ability to manipulate any kind of glass. He can move glass with his mind, but still has some trouble doing so with larger pieces/objects at once. He has noticed that by doing hand gestures, he can easier control the direction the glass takes. However, that has almost certainly more to do with Derek’s ability to focus than the actual power. He is also able to repair or destroy anything made of glass. Derek is more skilled at the latter. By shattering glass objects violently with his mind, Derek can use this aspect of the ability offensively. A more newly developed part of his ability is the ability to weaken/strengthen the structure of the glass. This is useful defensively as a way to make glass able to withstand damage. Power 2: Mirror Teleportation – By using mirrors, Derek can teleport from one place to another. He needs one mirror from where he teleports and another to be at the final destination. He can do this either by staring into the mirror and imagining his way to the other mirror or, if the mirrors are large enough, he can physically cross through one mirror to the other. If Derek tries to teleport when not knowing a mirror he can teleport to, it will usually not work. However, sometimes, like the first time when he accidentally used this ability or the time when he left his hometown behind, he will teleport to the mirror that is closest to the place he is thinking of. Power 3: Power 4: Grid Intelligence: 3 Occult: Strength: 3 Speed: 4 Durability: 3 Ability: 8(Glass Manipulation)3(Mirror Teleportation) Fighting Skills: 3 Magic: Spells: Flight: Wealth: 1 |
