Standing at 5'11, Derrick is a man of mixed Puerto Rican and Scottish descent with a slight accent inherited from his father, a native scot. He is most often found in his costume, which consists of blue and dark grey body armor. When in civilian clothes, he's normally found wearing a simple outfit of jeans and a T-shirt.

The Legacy

Personality:
It's probable that Derrick would have done well in the NYPD if he had pursued a career in law enforcement as he's loyal, courageous, and adheres to a strict personal code outlining the dichotomy of good and evil. Those who have and take from those who don't have are his enemies, as are those who take what isn't their own. The opposite of that would describe the kind of people he feels drawn to protect. As well, his practical mind is rather could at thinking tactically. He is always aware of his surroundings.

History:
Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1993 to Richard and Theresa Steen, Derrick had an average childhood until he was thirteen. It was at this age that he was picked on for being a tech nerd at school. While his father was not a harsh man, Richard was a practical man, and signed his son up for martial arts classes after being on the receiving end of one too many beatings. Out of all of the weapons he tested Derrick found that he had an affinity for the Bo Staff and would stick with it in the years to follow. He went to engineering school when he was on age, at it was there that he began designing a collapsible bo staff that could double as a taser for quicker takedowns, thinking perhaps he could market it as the next big thing in civilian self defense.

After graduation, He found work as a security guard for a bland office building, the kind of place that shouldn't even require security, and as such, he often found himself wandering away from his patrol routes, feeling drawn to do something more meaningful. While no one ever broke into the place, he did manage to stop a couple muggings and a carjacking in the general area. Eventually, he quit, deciding that his talents were being wasted and refocused on building his prototype stun staff for several months. It was in 2017 that he started attending a police academy, feeling that his skills could and should be used to protect those who could not protect themselves. Alas, such a career was not to be.

During the assault on new york by Dr.Necrodium, Derrick worked with local law enforcement and several displaced members of a SWAT team in securing a few blocks full of civilians from zombie attacks. Sadly, despite their efforts, the barricades were overrun and nearly everyone died. Derrick pieced together a suit from the fallen members of the swat team for protection and managed to get a handful of innocents to safety, all the while wishing that he had had his Bo staff in hand. Following the widespread destruction of his home city, Derrick donned the suit of combat armor after making some modifications to it and took to the streets as Knightstaff, ready to protect the people of Brooklyn from any threat as best as he could, feeling that the reason those cops had died was because they stuck to protocol and he could do more for people from outside the lines.

Power 1: Engineering Skills
With years of engineering school under his belt as well as his natural knack for figuring out how things work and his practicality, Derrick invented and maintains most of his own equipment, modifying any portions that he didn't make himself. His keen intellect has helped him on more than one occasion, whether for following an investigation or for silently breaking into a criminal's hideout.

Power 2: Martial Arts Training
Derrick has spent more than a decade training his body, having started when he was a young teenager. He has mastered Bōjutsu, as well as reaching the rank of second degree black belt in Karate. He has combined the two of these to create a personal fluid fighting style that focuses on agility and fast strikes, while still allowing for the occasional power hit. It's easy to see that he maintains a focus on cardio; a strict workout regimen that includes running and biking, as well as calisthenics. All of it is intended to keep him agile and trim rather than giving him muscles mass.

Weakness(es)

Weakness 1:
Human - As Derrick is a normal human, he is at a severe disadvantage when faced with metahumans and the other beings that inhabit the world. Even though he is fit, agile and well versed in using his Bo Staff, his body can be damaged as easily as any other normal human being. Because of that, he has an inability to fight anyone capable of flight, and in spite of his body armor offering additional protection against conventional weapons, he is not prepared for the wide array of powers he could be facing.

Power Staff - The weapon that Derrick carries is roughly sixty-seven inches long and made of a lightweight and durable metal. It's sectioned off in a way that allows it to collapse to the size of a escrima stick and extend back out in seconds. Both ends contain tasers capable of delivering between fifty thousand and thirty five million volts., depending on the setting he uses.

Grappling Hook - Derrick utilizes a length of rope attached to a launcher that allows him to get to rooftops and between buildings with relative quickness.

Compartments - Inside several hidden compartments in his suit, Derrick has squirreled away basic first aid supplies and mundane things like a flashlight, lockpicking materials, a small pair of binoculars, flashbangs and handheld E.M.P.s

Body Armor - Most of his suit consists of a blue and grey armor is capable of resisting bullets, blades and fire, as well as being insulated against electricity. In spite of that, it is not bulky and allows him to maintain flexibility and mobility. The densest parts of the armor are the gauntlets and boots, which give him the equivalent power of brass knuckles and steel toed boots respectively. The only major drawback is that the suit cannot hold up well in extended firefights; it can only take a couple of bullets before some bullets find their way through.

Seeing as his items are just mundane and can really be wrecked by regular firearms...

And his powers are more or less just skills - I say approved.
