The Looks

Theory is slender young woman of small stature for her age. Her upper arms and lower legs are slightly muscular, but not enough for it to be a noticeable.

Her hair was originally chocolate brown and scruffy before she layered it and died it a deep burgundy colour in her late teens. It’s normally tossed over her shoulders, with the tips just barely brushing her elbows. Her layers frame her oval face and her fringe is brushed to the side, almost covering her right eye. She has long eyelashes that compliment her ice blue, thin almond eyes which are her most noticeable feature and they are the first thing many are drawn to before anything else. She has defined cheek bones and full cherry lips. She has two small gold hoop earrings on her right ear lobe. Theory’s skin is fairly pale and blemish free. She has a light, pink scar that starts at the left side of her neck and curves around till it reaches the middle of her throat.

Theory believes her face is the most important aspect of her “work”. Theory can change expressions in the blink of an eye. No matter what feeling for whatever situation, Theory’s bright, expressive face can take on the appropriate form and she prides herself for her 100 per cent accuracy on how genuine her expressions are. When not mimicking a certain emotion, Theory’s ice blue eyes can be seen sparkling brightly and with her lips pulled into a cocky smirk or grin or an amused smile. Evidence of this is also clear when Theory is angry, which is a rare occurrence given how hard it is to make her even the slightest bit agitated. Her features seem to darken and tighten, with her eyes lowering and her jaw so clenched you would think it would break. It is not a look those who know her want to be on the receiving end on.

Theory’s wardrobe consists of dark colored clothes that don’t exactly compliment her figure, but don’t exactly conceal it either. In her “natural habitat” she normally wears a black t-shirt with army camouflage jeans and well worn grey boots. A black trench coat always worn open and with sleeves torn up to the elbow and black gloves completes this “biker-chick-slash-gangster-esque ensemble” as she likes to call it. Theory can be seen in a range of uniforms from time to time, these being dubbed her "Infiltration Gear".

The Legacy

Personality: It’s a dog eat dog world out there and when some of those dogs have powers? Theory believes that the world becomes a little more interesting. Survival? Sure that’s important, but Theo Elroy hasn’t ever been one to care so much about what’s important. In fact, Theo Elroy hadn’t ever been one to care about anything at all. She watches the world of evil and good collide and gives ammunition in the form of valuable information just so that the entertainment can continue. If it’s not something fun, it’s not something worth caring about. However, for no real reason, Theo will intervene in certain situations, the only reason she ever gives being that, “I did it because I could.” (There seems to be a link between her interference and the lives of innocent people being at risk, but Theory would never admit such a thing...)

Theory prides herself on this “Inconsistent Nonchalance” and just how unpredictable she can be in general. She is incredibly energetic and vivacious, with many strange philosophies. For example, Theory would be a very skilled liar, but she states that it isn’t what she was “born to do” and that “Just because you’re incredibly good at something, doesn’t mean it’s what you should do!” Despite this, Theory will openly admire her lying and even admit to the target that she had been lying to just to ask for how believable she was.

Theory has a habit of doing incredibly questionable things, being the kind of person to jump off a bridge instead of crossing it. Her moral code is “rotted” to say the least and the line that she wouldn’t cross is constantly changing, just adding to the explanation of her erratic and impulsive actions at times.

Despite this, (And only God knows how..) Theory can become incredibly efficient when it comes to gaining information; not too much of a smooth charmer to make one suspicious, but persuasive enough to gain trust. You won’t be sorry if you make an ally out of Theory, because despite her off-the-wall remarks and colour commentary on everything she witnesses, you tell Theory something and she actually likes you, you can be damn certain that it is going to remain between the two of you.

So Theory really is layers upon layers of contradictions in terms of her character. She knows this and embraces it. It was actually the inspiration for her name. “Theory”: Something that has yet to be proven and worked out completely. Someone (including herself) has yet to work her out. Theory has fun making the challenge more complicated every step of the way.

History: Born in 1997, Theo and her father Jonah Elroy had left her birthplace of Brooklyn almost right after she was born. Well, not exactly straight after. Theo was just to young to understand let alone remember a funeral for Olivia Elroy, her mother. Since Jonah never took the time to explain to Theo what had happened, Theo adopted the assumption that she just never had a mother, even when she was old enough to know what death was and how it could occur during childbirth.

So Theo never looks back on her childhood as a tragedy and in fact, calls the time she spent with her father some of the best times in her life. She remembers her father always smiling despite what had happened. Jonah was born with the Meta-gene; a Metahuman with the power to feel the emotions of others. He could feel the fear and uncertainty of many people and knew that he couldn't live in New York City any longer, especially with a family. Although completely unsure about the science behind it, Jonah couldn't risk bringing up a child who may possess powers as well. This completely overshadowed any kind of fear of outside influences. This was about survival and a chance for a life where Jonah wouldn't have to feel such negative emotions day in and day out. Though totally unprepared for the death of his wife Eva, he moved out of the city with newly born Theo because she insisted that no matter what happened to either of them their child deserved something better than the future that could await her in the city that would never accept her if she was the same as her father.

So they moved from state to state, travelling and living out of a less than stable brown van (nicknamed Old George for no real reason) with very little money. Jonah did whatever he could to make a little extra money, be it odd jobs or even pick pocketing while Theo started school. Believing that her father was the only real companion she need, Theo found it easy to make no attachments and then just get up and leave. Best thing she did to occupy herself was read, since she had little to no interest in what was going on in the classroom. Theo found that she remember a lot of things, word for word from non-fiction books. She just put it down to good memory and so did her father when Theo would give him seemingly random facts throughout each day. This routine continued well into Theo's teenage years, with herself and Jonah very happy in each others company, always laughing and with Jonah never letting Theo worry or become upset, not wanting to associate any negative emotions with his daughter; who was the best thing that had ever happened to him.

Soon though, Theo noticed that Jonah was making more money than he usually was. When she asked him about it he simply answered that he was finding well paid small jobs and left it at that. It wasn't exactly a lie, because Jonah really was finding pretty well paid small jobs. He just wasn't telling Theo that those jobs weren't exactly "clean." Theo trusted her father with everything and didn't question his answer, but she still felt uneasy. When she looked at her father, it felt as though she should be focusing on something, but she just didn't know what. Hiding her uncertainty from her father, she left it at that.

When Theo was 16, during a longer than normal stay in the state of Nevada, Theo realized she couldn't be her normally extroverted self inside her new school. So, Theo made a reluctant and lazy attempt to make something even close to a friend... And she made them instantly. It started with her just going up to a group of girls and beginning to chat and ended with Theo laughing and smiling with them, understanding their humor, their mindsets and how they just felt in general about certain things, be it work, teachers or other students. They had just shared everything with Theo, as if she had been their best friend from day one of her time in that school. Theo couldn't but this down to anything. She was doing something, she could just fell it. So she kept trying. Each time she walked close to any clique in that school she attracted their acceptance like a magnet. She found secrets and truths about so many and then an accidental slip of the tongue of one secret started Theo's fascination with how much damage certain information could do. She could turn the bullies into the bullied, the popular into the miserable. She only hurt those who had hurt many others beforehand, so she didn't see the the problem. Those lacking in confidence held their heads a little higher and walked a little straighter each time she caused a little chaos between some ignorant jocks or sharp tongued "pretty girls".

As they left for California (with Jonah having earned even more money) Theo told him everything. She never kept secrets from her father and he... Always tried his best to be as honest as the situation allowed him to be. Theo told him she was sure this was her power, the one they weren't sure she was going to have or not. She joked about it being the most subtle power ever and Jonah was just happy she wasn't frightened or confused at the thought of being a Metahuman. She also told Jonah another ability she thought wasn't exactly just human instinct. She could tell when someone was lying to her. Even just white lies. So she asked her father again. Where was he getting the extra money from? Jonah could feel how serious she was and gave in. He told her everything.

Odd jobs for any kind of criminal do pay exceptionally well. Especially when you can use your Empath abilities to tell bluffs in card games and go on to win. But you should always move quickly when criminals find out your a Metahuman that basically cheated you out of a lot of money. Theo... Didn't care in the slightest. Jonah watched and listened to her in bewilderment as she joked about they were like Thelma and Louise except without a crazy ex on their tails.. Unless her dad wasn't telling her something. Soon, they were both laughing, both utterly relieved. Jonah because Theo wasn't ashamed and Theo because her father was safe and there were no secrets between them.

For the next two years, the pair stayed in California, with Jonah staying low so that Theo could take the time to study and graduate. Although completely fine with graduating from any random school, Jonah insisted that there was a sentimental value to graduation and she needed to get the feel for the school. Seeing that there was no arguing about sentimental values with an Empath, Theo agreed. But she was happy to juggle between cliques depending on what she needed from certain people, but under strict orders from Jonah, she tried not to fan any flames for entertainment while she was it. There was the added bonus of not having to pay that much attention in class, seeing as she remembered a huge amount it just simply by listening and looking up at what was being written from time to time. So when graduation came around, she managed to pass with surprisingly good grades.

Theo made it painfully clear that she wanted to go back to New York after she graduated. She didn't care about college or work, but she wanted to go back to the city she was born, seeing as she didn't get a chance to experience it. Jonah was against it, but the desire he felt from his daughter stopped him from putting his foot down. So they took a different route through the states, stopping only to eat, sleep and whenever Old George just decided to give up. They made it to New York and stayed in Brooklyn. Theo spent days just roaming the borough, fascinated by the smallest things. New York City? The Empire State Building? What was the point when there was this bar practically hidden in an alley way? However, Theo could tell her father's heart just wasn't in it. He would smile with her, but she knew he didn't feel right. So she insisted he go back to travelling, not just the states but abroad. He would have enough money to do so and they wouldn't ever lose contact with each other. Again Jonah was dead set against leaving Theo alone even though she was 18. Besides, he couldn't deny that she was right. He felt his best while on the move. Setting aside an account for Theo, the two finally went there separate ways, but not before promising to make any form of contact -be it a phone call to a carrier dove- each day.

Theo stayed in an apartment in Brooklyn and spent her days doing what she did best. Making friends with anyone and everyone, no matter who they were. Knowing she couldn't live off the money Jonah had given her forever, she wondered what she could do. Then one night, Theory found herself behind a bar serving drinks (she either lost a bet or was drunk herself, but most likely it was both) and no one said a thing. The next night, she jumped behind the bar sober and did the same thing. No one said a word. She kept doing this for a few weeks and when it was payday for that bar's staff, she got a cheque herself.

So Theo began doing many "odd jobs", all of which involved her walking into an establishment, "borrowing" the uniform and working until she got paid. The money was good, but Theo got bored fast. Thinking back, she wasn't sure how she made it year simply doing that There was something missing... Then it hit her. What was the one thing this power was good for? Getting information. So that's where it all began. Getting into any kind of criminal circle and gaining information? Now that was something that wasn't going to get boring quickly.

So criminal information went to other criminals, who were willing to pay a lot of money if you played hard to get with certain secrets. Theo had her own way of judging how much the information she had was worth. The only downside was spending some of that money on certain clothes and products that would make her look older. It was a lot easier to be taken seriously if you didn't look 19.

But then she started getting the attention of Metahumans. Not just criminal Metahumans. "Super Villains" as they were called. They wanted information and they had noticed that Theo seemed to be very good at getting it. Never one to turn down a new challenge, Theo got them what they needed. She found it was pretty easy to gain the trust of villains when you show them how you're power can be useful to them. As well as giving her clients as she called them information she needed, she gave the targets information on the clients as well. Then Theo realised something else. Wouldn't heroes want some kind of information on their villains? So a whole new cycle started.

She got more confident, she learned more information, she polished up her techniques and started making a name for herself during the next two years. In 2018, she gained all the information she could regarding Metahumans and the Meta-gene, she could better understand it herself and gain a better understanding of the situation that was causing all the tension within almost every group she had entered. Through this, she learned about what went on in New York and what the US Government was doing. Resisting the strongest urge she's ever had to go in and infiltrate the government to gain some of the most valuable information there was, Theo (now with the more well known nickname of Theory) left the city on pure instinct that something was going to happen. Then The Big Apple Crumbled.

Presently, people want information on what information other people want and Theory is happy to help out. She wonders what chaos people can possibly get up after the biggest chaotic mess of their time. Handing out the ammo for the fights to come, Theory hopes to sit back and have fun. Who knows? Maybe'll she'll get a chance to get in on the front lines.

The Powers

Social Cloaking: Referring to it as “the dream power of every con man!” Theory has the power to assimilate into any kind of social group with incredible ease, no matter what the field, the socio-economic background or even the alignment. She has an empathetic ability of sorts that can understand the emotions of the social structures she enters, an aid in creating a comfortable atmosphere between her and the group as well as gaining trust. This takes away any threat of natural Empaths discovering her because of how well she can mimic those feelings and begin to enter a likewise mind set of the group. Theory’s successful use of this power is a crucial part of gaining new information, so Theory is constantly trying to find new ways to improve her techniques so that she can infiltrate more “complicated” groups.

Panmnesia: Theory has an inhumanely excellent memory, being able to remember everything she has ever encountered, experienced or learned. The only thing Theory needs to do to keep something in her memory is read, see or feel something only once. Theory can never forget any piece of information from the past she has been given, making her a walking, talking archive of certain information. Theory only knows what she has to know; not everything.
However, this has the negative side effect of certain painful or unpleasant facts or truths that Theory can’t bury away affecting her personally (which may be the cause of her personality, the way she acts being a distraction from what lingers on in her mind)

Lie Detection via enhanced behavior perception: Theory can tell immediately when anyone is lying, while being able to differentiate between less serious secrets and white lies. Theory can do this to a frightening accuracy, being able to notice the smallest of twitches, habits and micro-expressions. In a split second Theory can notice the slightest tightening of a muscle because when focusing on a particular person, her senses can make themselves and their movements incredibly vivid, almost as if they are in high definition.

Enhanced Agility: Theory's only real power that can help her psychically. This power coupled with her small size and slimmer figure makes Theory incredibly flexible and even able to reach certain areas others of larger frames cannot. It comes in very well for her when she needs to evade sudden attacks from those she aggravates or just move swiftly when under time pressure. Her skill level could be likened to amateur parkour, but that is just in likeness. Her swiftness is how she makes up for her lack of any real strength and durability.
