The Legacy

Personality: Cody is, at his core, still a little boy; innocent and childlike, it is his enthusiasm and cheer that helps carry him. He believes in the fundamental goodness of life, that even when times are tough, there is still positivity; that even in tragedy, there is comfort. This is not borne out of a refusal to accept the harshness of the world, but rather his embracing it and understanding that beneath it is a world worth living in.

Through his philosophy of finding goodness in everything, he has gained the values and beliefs of redemption, mercy, and kindness. Cody’s goal is to do whatever he can to help in any way he can, whether that means defeating evil or lending an open ear to the troubles of someone down on their luck. He is genuinely happy to do whatever it takes to help others, physically or emotionally, regardless of who they are or what they’ve done to him. No matter what happens, he will only look for and accept the integrity of  people he comes across, and will do whatever he can to reach out to that side of a person. If a man assaults him and tries to kill him, and later has a change of heart, Cody will gladly call this man a friend and utterly disregard any past actions taken on the path to that friendship.

Some call him naïve, even his closest friends and allies, but through his unconscious quest to find the basic beauty in all he sees, he has come to terms with the heartbreak of life and made his own inner peace.

History: The sun slowly and with purpose climbed into the sky, tinting the Earth with a soft morning glow that signaled the beginning of a new day for all those who still slept. Cody arose from bed, groggily at first, but soon his unique vigor returned to him and he sprung to life as only he could. He prepared himself for the day, humming merrily as he did so, cleaning and dressing within thirty minutes. His morning routine was swift, but thorough; he was always refreshed and one hundred percent equipped to handle the day’s challenges by the time his ritual was completed.

Today was no different. It was his school’s summer break, and as such he had taken it upon himself to help his mother care for the household. His plan for the day was to go to the center of town and pick up some groceries, then go and assist his mother’s friend down by the docks. He was to help the man set up his waterside shop, which would serve as a place of rest and feeding for fishermen during the summer months. When Cody’s mother had brought it up to the boy, he immediately jumped to help, only pausing for a moment in his enthusiasm to make sure his mother didn’t need him for anything important on that day. She said she had only needed him to pick up some household supplies before he headed out, something easily accomplished if he woke up earlier enough. Thus, the boy was now taking a stroll to the store.

Cody enjoyed the soft breeze on his skin and the soothing warmth of the sun as it shone just slightly out from a soft layer of clouds up above. He could feel the moisture in the air from the nearby ocean, a familiar blanket wrapping around him and making him feel perfectly at home while walking through his beloved town. To the untrained eye, it may have seemed a bit abrasive there: the ground was often barren, with jagged rocks or long patches of sand stretching out and dividing up the natural flora of the region. It was often somewhat grey or overcast, due to the proximity to the shoreline, and the vegetation that was there was densely packed and, perhaps, just a bit foreboding.

Cody had an understanding beyond the superficial. He could see past the dreary shell of the town and its people and into the inner majesty that it held, like a bright shining pearl kept safe from the tiring winds of the world by an ever-watchful clam. The long patches of barren land were perfect for people to stop for a moment and drink in the natural, unique beauty of the scenic town, and the foreboding forests were actually gateways into wondrous, almost magical realms of adventure and discovery. The hours Cody had spent in those woods, just pondering his life and the nature around him, were precious moments that he would never trade. The people there had just as complex a charisma about them; if you met them on the street, they’d be friendly enough, but they’d somewhat strange and distant. Cody knew a large portion of the town on a personal level, so he knew all their little quirks and mannerisms. The people there weren’t strange at all, just subtle in their intricacies. The only individual he knew of that still seemed alien was old Quentin Grey, who right on the coast in a little fishing shack.

Many people in the town that Quentin Grey was an eccentric, possibly a madman. He was an old, mysterious fellow who kept almost entirely to himself. No one in town knew who he was, where he came from, why he was there; he was simply a staple of the town, as ingrained in the place as the rocks and trees. People assumed that he had been there since the tides first came in, and that he would be there until the tides last went out. In truth, Cody hardly knew a thing about him. He prided himself on looking past rumors and gossip, but having never gotten a chance to know the man or even really meet him, he didn’t know what was true and what was not.

That was going to change.

As Cody’s walk lead him to approach the town center, he could hear screams and rumbles from up ahead. He saw wispy smoke plumes stretching menacingly into the sky, signaling something truly horrible lay in wait. Cody was struck by a sense of horror, but more than that, an overwhelming concern for those who might need help. He raced up to the town center, trying to figure out what was happening.

When he reached the clearing where most of the town’s shops and other commercial buildings were located, he was met with a sight of tragedy. People lay bleeding, scattered across the ground, while others huddled together as families, weeping and trying to protect themselves. Craters pockmarked the terrain, smoking and charred, while buildings were crumbling or blown apart entirely. It looked like a warzone. Cody was so overcome by the intensity of the scene before him that it took a moment to notice the strange figures lying on the ground. They wore what appeared to be a loose, flowing black material, with feature-obscuring masks pulled over their faces. They had various wounds across their abdomens, most of which were bleeding profusely, though some seemed to have been cauterized by intense heat. He also saw none other than Quentin Grey stretched limp across the ground, face down and eyes closed. He was battered and bruised, with blood seeping from wounds all over his body. Cody was dumbfounded, unsure of what to do; at least, until some of the smoke cleared.

In the clearing’s center, Cody saw as the haze lifted, stood another of the black-clad figures, this one seemingly only lightly injured. He was stooped down around a cylindrical container of some sort, almost like an oversized soup thermos, one with a variety of lights and wires jutting from its exterior. It was messy, but clearly of a strong make and material. Cody realized almost instantly what it was: a bomb.

Cody charged the would-be terrorist, desperately trying to reach him in time to prevent detonation. He kept pushing himself harder and harder, faster and faster. His legs were on fire, burning with an intense drive and indomitable will to save the people of the town no matter what physical strain he went through. His lungs and chest roared in pain, his vision blurred from exertion, but he was almost supernaturally determined to push himself.

Just a little faster. Just a little faster!

He was suddenly overcome with a strange energy, giving him unimaginable strength; and then the world was awash in a brilliant white light.
When Cody arose from the rubble, he screamed in despair and heartbreak. He hadn’t been fast enough. For miles in every direction, there was nothing but lifeless, burned ruins. The entire town had been destroyed. Everyone in it dead. Even his mother.

Oh God.

For a moment, he just sat in shock and dismay. What happened? Why did it happen? As he scanned the destruction, still trying to process the weight of what he had experienced, he saw a small glowing object in the place where Grey had been lying just before the explosion. Slowly, and without strength, he stood and made his way over to it. He felt drawn to it in a way, beyond mere curiosity. He picked it up with nearly limp fingers. It was a necklace with a small, yellow-gleaming crest on it. Obeying his urge, he put the necklace on and felt a surge of energy like none he had ever experienced.

“Cody, I am so sorry,” came a ghostly, yet comforting and harmonious voice, seemingly from everywhere and yet nowhere.

“Who . . . who are you?” Cody asked, voice weak from emotional trauma.

“My name is Quentin Grey. It is- was- my duty to protect the world from the men who attacked this town today. They came here, seeking to murder me and destroy my knowledge and artifacts, so that none in the world could oppose them. That’s why they set off that bomb, to remove every trace of my existence. The men who came here today fought me and mortally wounded me, so that I could not stop their plot. When you rushed in to try and save this town, I felt your surge of kindness and selflessness; and in that moment, I realized that perhaps you could carry on the fight in my stead. I used what little energy remained in my body to shield you from the blast, and transferred my consciousness and life energies into this crest. Now, whatever power is contained within is yours.”

“I . . . I don’t know what to say. What do you want me to do?”

“The people who attacked here today were not alone. They were but a small part of a much larger, much more dangerous entity that seeks a total genocide of life on Earth. I implore you, Cody, to take up the fight in my stead; to protect the Earth.”

Without hesitation, though in a shaky and pained voice, Cody replied. “I’ll do it. These people need to be stopped. They place the lives of innocent in danger, and I don’t think I can live with that. If I can do something, anything, to help stop them . . . well, count me in.”

Thank you, Cody.

Cody stood for a moment, tears still running down his face. He surveyed the destruction once more. There was nothing left. No one he could help here. Nothing he could do.

I know it hurts, Cody. But there’s nothing here for you now. It’s time to move on.

“You’re . . . you’re right.” Cody took one last, mournful look, and began his journey into the unknown.

The Powers

Super Speed: Cody can control his speed and the various elements that accompany it. Acceleration, friction, momentum, inertia; these words mean nothing to Cody unless he chooses to make use of them. For example, he can run along the ground at a full clip without melting the asphalt, while also burning hypothetical restraints by rubbing them quickly enough without damaging himself. Most importantly, he can handle objects with care and delicacy while moving in super speed, but also transfer the full force of his speed into a villain when he attacks them and ignore the feedback from the blow.

Kinetic Sense (Ability 1): A sixth sense that guides Cody’s movements and allows him to feel motion in the world. When traveling at superspeed, Cody technically can speed up his thought processes to control himself manually, but doing so incredibly mentally strenuous; hence the Kinetic Sense. This ability allows him to go into autopilot when moving, as it controls his body perfectly, allowing for exquisite equilibrium, fashioning his body into a master acrobat and world-class martial artist. When guided by the Kinetic Sense, his every muscle moves perfectly, and his body never tires except from the mental strain of using the Kinetic Sense to such a high degree.

Through the Kinetic Sense, he can also feel motion all around him. Most of this is tuned out; he simply cannot handle the mental strain of too much information. However, it does give him a well-defined sense of his surroundings at all times, and allows him to anticipate possible traps or ambushes. He can focus this ability to feel minute motions in a specific area, finely tune it to pick up on certain types of movements, as well as other applications; however, most of the time he keeps it regulated to a general sense of his surroundings, so as to not exhaust him. In combat situations, this aspect of the Kinetic Sense is generally reduced, to allow for more efficient movement.

The downside of the Kinetic Sense is Cody himself. Theoretically, the power has no upper limit; it could guide his every motion at all times and pick up on the slightest movement from across the universe. The problem is that Cody can’t handle that much information; he would go insane. Thus, the Kinetic Sense is limited to how much his mind can process at once. Due to that limitation, it is possible to overwhelm it as a guidance system, by feeding it so much information that Cody can’t handle it all. As the amount of chaos around him increases, Cody is forced to tone down the sensitivity of the Kinetic Sense, removing his ability to feel motion around him and compromising his perfect equilibrium. The last functionality to go is the super speed guidance; at that point, Cody can no longer move on autopilot at super speed, forcing him to speed up his mind to match his body. The strain of this is immense, and in addition to not being able to maintain this state long, he loses entirely his supernatural balance and fighting prowess, and his stamina returns to his standard physical levels (speaking relative to his perception of his speed). He is, essentially, his usual human self, only with the world around him slowed to a crawl.

Generally speaking, as the Kinetic Sense becomes further compromised, Cody’s retreat quickly becomes his only sane option. As it loses effectiveness, he becomes vulnerable to getting hit by attacks, and his combat ability dwindles. Once he is forced into manual control, he has mere moments (from his perspective) to flee before he is utterly exhausted and is forced to continue the fight as a regular, scrawny teenage boy.

[02:09:52] Drago-Morph : Super speed, can punch really hard because of it, doesn't suffer drawbacks, really complicated sixth sense.

Intelligence: 3
Occult: 0
Strength: 5
Speed: 8
Durability: 5
Ability: 1 (Sixth Sense: Kinetic Sense )
Fighting Skills: 8

Having super speed supports your power:
Drago-Morph wrote:Localized manipulation of the physics of motion (Ability 5): Cody can manipulate the laws of motion around his body, choosing to ignore friction, inertia, momentum, acceleration, and the other associated downsides of super speed at will. He can also work with these laws; should something need melting, he can then “turn on” friction as it relates to that object, burning it but not Cody. Most important is how this relates to transferred force: he can, for example, catch someone who is falling at a full clip without damaging them, but also hit someone with the full force of his speed with the explicit purpose of damaging them.

As in, that's not needed as a power.

So, the grid above supports what you want. Having the STR to back up the speed. The added speed, of course, allows you to hit harder, and stronger. The DUR supports your "not feeling the punch" when moving at your top speeds.

Plus, it makes sense.

Also, your grid is now full, and you're eligible for the free wealth point. Unless you intend to be poor/homeless. (:

Alright! Took your advice on the stats, plus I made everything a bit prettier. Bio's been made into an actual narrative (albeit a sucky one) as opposed to a rushed mess, and I've made the format much fancier and better to look at. I'm pretty happy with this. I think it's ready to get judged!
