The Looks

A strong and fit military man with short brown hair and blue eyes. He wears standard issue army uniforms while on duty and very casual clothing while off duty. While his rough life has granted him his share of scars, they are no longer present on his flawless skin. He doesn't stand out much from other military men, but does fit the part perfectly with a strong jaw and well-muscled body.

The Legacy

Personality:
Richard Mathis is gifted with the bravery that runs in his family. He is not afraid to push himself beyond what most men would consider safe. Unlike most brave military men, he has a welcoming smile that allows people to trust him instead of fear him. He knows how to get what he wants and knows how to get people to follow his lead anywhere. If it wasn't for his love of the military, he would make an excellent politician.

History:
Richard Mathis comes from a long line of military men and is proud of it. He grew up with both his parents (who still live) on many different military bases around the globe. He never kept many friends for long, since his family was always moving, but he did get a decent enough education from the on-base schools. His education was just barely enough for him to get a standard college level education at West Point, which later placed him in the U.S. Army as an officer.

His rise through the ranks wasn't anything surprising; neither slow nor fast. He was just like any of the others he constantly competed with for rank. The one edge he did have was his nack for courage that seemed to run in the family. Although officers didn't see as much combat as enlisted men, Mathis really showed his value during combat deployments. On his rise to the rank of Major, he won many medals to award his bravery.

Unfortunately, Major Mathis was still only a man. His final medal was the purple heart, which was awarded for heavy burn damage to his flesh. During combat against a metahuman villain, he and his company were burned alive with no way to defend themselves. Although his company was wiped out, Mathis lived just long enough for medical aid find him. He was nothing more than a sizzling slice of bacon at that point and wished he had died with his brothers, but he couldn't put up much of a fight in this matter. Back home, the government was working on a procedure that needed volunteers. Major Mathis was the perfect candidate, so he was voluntold.

Mathis provided nothing more than a damaged body, so he was along for the ride the whole way. He drifted in and out of conciousness constantly as needles were poked into his charred remains and doctors took his vitals. One day he woke to find himself hooked up to so much machinery and needles that he may as well have been the beating heart to a large robotic entity. He didn't think the pain could have been any worse, but he was very wrong. As fluids were injected and removed, his nerves screamed the way his voice no longer could. It didn't take long for him to pass out again.

That was the last time he felt pain like that again. It seemed like only the next day, but Mathis really awoke two weeks later in what he thought was the afterlife. Only in the afterlife could he have his old body back instead of the monstrosity that was left behind like charcoal. He had to pinch himself many times to be convinced that it was no dream and that he really was still alive. Whatever miracle the doctors had done had worked. Major Richard Mathis was back to his old self... or was he?
