Mission Sub is a go. Empty Mission Sub is a go.

Post by Ember_Fangs July 21st 2011, 5:23 am

Gracie had invented a brilliant new gadget and she couldn't wait to try it out. Picking up the box with all the pieces inside she headed out of the apartment and headed down to the local park. The idea was that this gadget was just a small version of a bigger model she could create when she got the space, the money and, of course, if it worked.

"Excuse me, sorry," she murmured as she rushed down the steps that led her from her apartment to the ground floor and thus outside. The lift was broken which meant there was more traffic on the stairwell for her to navigate around. Carefully her black and white converses touched down on the ground floor entrance and she sighed in relief, her slanted fringe was extended to nearly a full fringe and the slanted cut fell slightly into her chocolate brown eyes. She smiled and then shifted the box so it was balanced against her hip and pushed the door open with her other hand. It was boiling hot in Chicago at this time of year and as soon as she stepped out of the air conditioned hotel a wave of heat hit her which made her thankful for the fact she had packed some summer clothes; shorts and a crop top which fell off of one shoulder with a vest top under it. Both were made of thin blue fabric, the vest top was a dark blue where as the crop top was a lighter blue. It was so cool and comfortable she was glad of the buy. Blue was also very much her colour.

Making her way down the side walk with a box she meandered in and out off the people traffic making sure no-one bashed her box. After an agonisingly long walk she had made it to the park where she automatically relaxed. She wasn't used to big crowds and she wasn't exactly a big people person but the countryside and quiet spaces like this just made her feel so much more at home. Gracie trod along the gravel path towards the lake where she set the box down and crouched beside it, carefully pulling out her new gadget.

The mini submarine was painted a bright vivid colour of orange, something she would be able to see a long way off in the lake. She put it on the lake surface where it bobbed as light as a feather, waiting for it's directions and commands. Turning back to the box she put on a pair of goggles which looked like sunglasses but they covered most of the eye area and round the sides. Gracie clicked a button and lights whirled to life and locked in, scanning her eye to register it was who they should listen to. Pulling on her gloves she locked her eyes onto the mini submarine in front of her. Instead of speaking out ordered with her mind. Dive. Due to the fact she was an energy manipulator on some subconscious level she powered the little sub to dive below the waves, the bright orange stood out. She pressed another button on the side of the glasses and one glass switched to SubCam as the other watched. With the subcam she could see all the buttons inside on the control panel. Stretching her hand out she began to tap at an imaginary version of the keys. Instantly the orange blob disappeared, an invisibility shield sweeping over it. Gracie grinned to herself and sat down by the lake side, eagerly playing with the different functions she had installed in the mini sub, oblivious to everyone else.

Mission Sub is a go. Empty Re: Mission Sub is a go.

Post by The Bolt July 21st 2011, 4:25 pm

"Don't do anything stupid while in Chicago." The stern warning ran through his mind as he walked along the rather crowded sidewalk of Chicago. All around him were the clear windows that onlooked the multiple shops that dotted the city. John considered maybe goign through a few, and buying some things for his nagging brother, who would more than likely want something anyway. Considering he was the brother that John knew so well. Sighing he walked into a high end ice cream shop, buying his personal favorite. Something filled with chocolate, and of course smothered in it as well. Paying as he walked out, enjoying the sweet treat. Humming an obscure song to himself, as he walked along the sidewalk, considerg where to go next. Maybe he could go see the Sears tower. Yeah that was somethign he would love to see.

Smiling John walked through to the lobby, going through all the pointless metal detectors. Paying the fees, till he reached the elavator that would carry him upto floor 103. Slowly walking along as he looked over the amazing view of the great city. It seemed to strecth on forever, just never ending. Like he was looking over a sea, but made of building instead of water. Brown eyes growing in amazement, as he absentmindedly ran his fingers through his black hair. Pulling the comfortable brown jacket close, as he walked into one of the transparent fiberglass booths that jutted from the building slightly. As he looked down, heart lurching at the immense height. The thought of him falling passed through his mind, before fleeting away. Though he quickly stepped from the booth, flushing from the slight adrenaline rush that coursed through his veins.

Next his eyes were caught by the gift shop. Which was selling oversized gummy bears, something he loved. John choosing to buy him two, as he went on the descent back to street level. Marking off visiting the tower from his list for this vacation. Next he wasn't sure what to do, though visiting some of the bars was a sure thing. Though maybe he could visit one fo the local parks. Annoyed he chose to wear shorts mostly bacuase it was nice, and windy today. Though thats why they called it the windy city. So his legs were somewhat cold in the khaki color shots he was wearing. Still he would get over it, well he had to anyway. The warm sunlight was enough to warm him up slightly. Unzipping his jacket, and throwing it over his shoulder, since he wasn't feeling too cold. A big banana across the front of his white shirt.

He walked along till he reached a good enough looking park, whistling a tune as he noticed a girlt hat looked liek she was playing with some sort of gadget. He was half interested, yet at the same time he wasn't too interested. Since his brother was always playing high tech gadgets. Though he always did liek submaires, so his curiosity got the better of him. As he walked slowly behind the girl, as he watched her play with it. Sittign down beside her as he looked over the clear water. "You having fun? Thats a pretty cool toy you got there." He said with his signature smile that he gave.

Mission Sub is a go. Empty Re: Mission Sub is a go.

Post by Ember_Fangs July 21st 2011, 5:20 pm

Gracie breathed in sharply and jumped, whirling round to look at the man which of course sent her delicate operation out of control. Her shock made the Submarine's energy whizz onto full speed and the jump messed up the invisibility shield. The submarine which had been making neat turns, meandering in and out of a virtual assault course, completely invisible now became visible. The bright orange submarine came into view a lot closer than the male probably expected. The sub whizzed off deeper into the lake at it's full speed. Most submarines moved slowly but this one shot through the water like a bullet.

"Damn it!" she swore and frowned at the man slightly before turning back to the sub and then twisted her hand as if twisting the steering wheel, bringing the submarine back to where they were sitting on the bank. The orange bullet bobbed along happily and surfaced the water, floating as light as a feather. Only then did Gracie rip off the gloves and goggles, wincing slightly when is caught in her long sleek black hair. Turning to the guy she frowned at him and rubbed the side of her hair where she was minus a few lumps of hair.
"I could have crashed the sub! I was right in the middle of testing, you shouldn't sneak up on people like that," she humphed and crossed her arms over her chest, blowing her fringe out of her face.

"It's not a toy, if the sub works well I'll be building it in a bigger form," she rubbed the back of her neck and cast another look at the orange sub which was bobbing quite happily on top of the lake. Reaching in she picked it out and gently wiped the water off of it, checking it over for any damage to it. Satisfied her sub was fine she placed it back on the lake and then raised an eyebrow at the man.
"You're not from around here, can I help you or something?" she cocked her eyebrow and twisted her lips in a way that screamed judgemental teenager.

Mission Sub is a go. Empty Re: Mission Sub is a go.

Post by The Bolt July 21st 2011, 6:13 pm

John frowned lightly, as he mentally facepalmed. Watching the submarine lose control as it moved around erratically. Before becoming calm once again. he didn't put into mind that the sub would lose control if he snuck up on her, not one bit. Though John was never one to overthink things really. He preferred to just go head, and do things that he wanted to do. Even if people told him he couldn't do them, or shouldn't. John wasn't one of those super smart people, but he got along fine without it. Anything he couldn't figure out himself, he had his brother to help him out with. John looked away somewhat ashamed of his little goof up, flushing lightly. Trying not to make eye contact so it didn't show his shame. Though he deciced to turn with a small smile, as he put on the calm, and cool facade.

"Sorry about that. Didn't mean to mess up your test run." He said sincerely, fingers intertwinning. Seeing the judgement in her eye, but he was used to that gaze. He got it from most of the people he met back in New York. Even from his so called friends. Though they were just a bunch of bitter assholes in the end. "Well no i'm not from around here. Just came down here from New York city, for a brief vacation. I always have wanted to see the windy city." He said it in a calm, and collected tone. That belied the voice in his head that continued to call him an idiot. As he looked over the cool water that calmed him somewhat. He always enjoyed the water, which was proven by him being a rather proficient swimmer. As a small bit of the water from the lake condensed into a cube of ice. Drifting along the sureface in a slow bobbing fashion, chocolate brown eyes watching it as it moved.

If he ever felt supid, or less than. John fell back on the awesomeness of his power. Not everyone had a gift like he did, so that made him special. Much to John's enjoyment, also not many people had the control over ice like he did. Though he never knew what magic could do, since he dabbled in it once a few years ago. Sighing John looked down at the grass, as the cube of ice floated along the waters surface more. Till it slwoly began to melt, not affected by his concentration anymore.

Mission Sub is a go. Empty Re: Mission Sub is a go.

Post by Ember_Fangs July 22nd 2011, 3:18 am

Gracie sighed softly and let her frame relax. Okay maybe she as being a bit harsh on him, he probably didn't know it was connected to her Energy power. Though the visual goggles and gloves weren't anything to do with her power, that was what would hopefully get this onto the market. If people at a base could actually see inside the ship and control it as if they were controlling a ship it would probably mean they could help the people on board if something went wrong. It would also be a better if they were just doing training instead of just sticking them in a tub and sending them under. She'd have to see how far she could get the submarine before the signal disappeared or became distorted. If it did work then who knows? Maybe in these bomber submarines they wouldn't have to endanger human lives and could just remotely control them. That would be so much easier and less life-threatening. Would-be sailors would still get a job as the handy men on these visual remote's.

"It's fine... You didn't damage the sub so it's fine," she rubbed the bridge of her nose, watching the little ice-cube bob along the lake. Where the hell had ice come from? Glancing at the man next to her then to the ice, she easily made the connection and her eyes widened slightly.
"You're a manipulator?" she asked, eyes growing large. "That is so cool, my power just seem to backfire more often or not," she sighed lightly and gently touched her arm where stitches held her skin together in a long gash where she'd had a shadow knife slash her skin. Blasted thing had hurt. Her hands were still sore from the fall on hard concrete but with some cream it was haling over pretty well, the aches and pains she could ignore. But maybe she did need to practice and embrace her gift.
"My name's Grace," she held out a hand and then smiled. "Welcome to Chicago though I'm not from round here either, I'm from Arizona," she smiled softly. "Would you like to have a go?" she raised an eyebrow and handed up the goggles.

Mission Sub is a go. Empty Re: Mission Sub is a go.

Post by The Bolt July 22nd 2011, 4:09 am

John sighed internally in relief. At least he didn't make a complete fool of himself today, but he made a mental note to be more careful. Afterall he had to act more cautious, as he remembered all the times he was put into dangerous situations. Especially with all the people that have tried to kill him these days, not a very good thing at all. Actually he was not too fond of the constant attempts on his life one bit. Though no one liked it when people attempted to kill them. "It's no problem, though i'm glad I didn't damage it any. I'm all to familar with what would happen if I mess up someones gadget." He looked away somewhat flustered, as the ice cube melting away into the water.

Though her catching on to his strange ability was very unexpected. He was not too open about what he could do, mostly because people only thought him weirder if he did. Not something he wanted people to think, mostly because John was a big people person, so being called weird was a big no no to him. Though he saying she had a similar power like him was a relief in itself. Eyes drifting back over to the interesting little gadget of hers. First she said something about her power back firing, but he never had that happen in his life to him. Except the first time he obtained the interesting little gift. Which almost froze his brother, Jimmy Reeves to death. He was pretty pissed off about that, never fogot about it to this day.

"Nice to meet you Grace." He took her hand and shook it slightly firm."My names John." he returned the smile. Shaking before he broke the handshake looking over the goggles curiously. He had no idea really how to use them, yet he was being handed them anyway. So he may as well accept her generous offer to test out this peice of machinery. "Sure that sounds like fun. Though i don't exactly know how to use it, and i'm a bit afraid I might break something." He said plainly, but with a sweet sounding tone.

Gracie smiled and then she moved so she was kneeling up behind him, taking the goggles she carefully put them on and secured them to fit his head and so they didn't fall off. If the goggles weren't on properly then he probably wouldn't work the submarine properly. Patting them a few times she moved her hands and frowned. They looked tight enough.

"Right, does that feel okay? Good..." she then helped him put the gloves on, making sure they were linked up with the goggles she then sat by his side. Gracie picked up the submarine and turned on the batteries so she didn't have to power it herself and so he could steer it and make it dive.
"Right I'm going to turn them on now, you're going to see the inside of the ship through the SubCam," she began to explain as she clicked the buttons on the side of the glasses. They hummed to life and scanned over his eye though when they didn't recognise the eye they began beeping hysterically. Pressing a series of buttons it hummed to life and the red glasses of the goggles turned to green, ready to go.
"Right can you see the dial of buttons in front of you through the left lens?" she asked, getting an answer before carrying on. "Good, now watch out of the right lens and press the buttons. The green button starts the engine and the gear stick push forward to dive down. Literally just put your hands out as if you were about to grab it and watch it move," she smiled and then sat back.

Picking up a notepad and pen to note down her own findings and improvements she glanced up every now and then to see what he thought and his reactions to the device. It was actually good that he was working with the invention, at least then she could say that she'd tested it on someone.

He let her place the goggles over his eyes, wincing lightly as he felt them tug on his hair a little. Followed by the odd gloves that were linked to the goggles. This was all fun for him, he loved testing out new toys like this. As long as he didn't end up breaking them in the end that it. Listening to the instructions she gave with a gentle nod of confirmation. This seemed to be a prettty compex peice of machinery that eh never even had the honor to touch before. Mostly because he would have to deal with a constant reminder of the time he blew up his brothers fusion reactor, or some shit like that.

Then the goggles began to beep hysterically, which made John gasp to himself, convinced he broke it somehow. Though the problem was quickly rectafied, much to his happiness. As he gained what he assumed was a visual of the insides of the submarine. Controls lay out infront of him, all seeming like he could reach out, and touch them. "Yeah I can see them." He nodded, still in awe about the whole thing. Pressing forward as the engine came to life, then with a gentle nudge of the stick. Submarine diving under the clear blue suface.

As it darted through the clear lake with ease, John causing it to move along. A satisfied smirk across his face,as the luittle submarine moved along. He hadn't had this much fun in a while, which was saying something. After a few moments of smooth sailing, he lightly nudged the controls, as the submersible vessel appeard from the depths. Easing its way back to the shore in front of him, and Grace. John pulling the goggles from his eyes, onto his forhead, them polloping with a slightly snap. "I like it. It's very easy to manuever." He said in a tone meant to be a compliment, as he pulled the gloves off slowly, as well as the goggles. Giving them back to Grace.

Grace watched him using the device while making odd comments here and there in her note journal, mostly about how to improve the submarines movements if anything. When John took them off she winced at the popping noise and carefully took them back and turned them off, placing them in the box with the gloves before placing the submarine in there too.
"Thanks and thank you for being the Guinea Pig I guess," she smiled and shrugged whilst closing the lid on the box before glancing at the guy. "Come on I'll buy you an ice cream," she smiled and bought her feet under her, pushing herself into a standing position in one graceful fluid movement. Her long black hair fell in her face but she pushed it off of her face while bending over and picking up the large box.
"So are you here on vacation now or something?" she asked curiously and cast a glance over to the man walking with her.

The uneven grass wasn't difficult to walk on on a normal day but the heat had cracked the Earth and made it harder to cross the park, especially with a large box in her arms. When she had lead them to the ice cream stall as she moved the box to rest against her hip while she brought them both an ice cream, having asked John to pick the one he'd wanted she then lead him to one of the park benches and licked the vanilla ice cream to stop it from melting.
"How are you finding Chicago?"

John thought over the offer for a second, considering he already had himself some icecream not too long ago. Though he considered refusing to be rude, so John just nodded. As well as thinking over her calling him a guinea pig, which wasn't very flattering at all. Still he did like guinea pigs, reminded him of one he had that made a cute noise whenever he rubbed its back. Ah how he loved that pig, though John quickly realized his mind was wondering off once again. "Yeah i'll take you up on that." John said with a slight grin as she asked him another question.

"Yeah i'm on vacation. I've always wanted to see Chicago, and all that. Also i've head about some of the cities heroes, and was kinda interested. So you said you're not from around here? What brings you to Chicago?" He raised an eyebrow, as they walked into the ice cream shop. Buying himself a cone of strwberry ice cream, his second favorite flavor. As he licked over the sweet treat slowly, looking over a guy he swore was doing the same to him. Though the guy looked away sheepishly, making John smirk.

"The city seems pretty good, I like it so far, i've already gone to see the Sear's tower, though i'm sure there are other places I could see." John said taking a bite from the ice cream. Looking back to the woman as he waited to see if maybe she would answer his question.

Grace was to busy attacking her own ice cream to see the exchange between John and the man sitting opposite them who kept throwing John heated looks while licking his own lolly rather seductively. When Gracie ate an ice cream she had no mercy for the delicious frozen cream. When John asked her a question she glanced up a him and then back to the frozen treat in her hands, running her tongue over her soft lips to make sure she had no ice-cream on them.

"I'm looking for my parents I guess. I think my dad lives in Chicago but it's been one thing after the other and," Grace shrugged nonchalantly. "I found records of the only Daniels here so I decided to come and look here," she smiled sheepishly. "I guess it was a lot to go on but then the most intelligent group live in Chicago - the Phantoms - they might be able to help me if all else fails. I helped them out the other night, so," she frowned. The memories of the rescue mission were not pleasant. The witch, Elena, was a powerful witch and that shadow manipulator had been powerful. It made her think; she really needed to improve on her power skills.
"Hey... You know you can manipulate ice... well... I can manipulate energy... And I could really use your help.... I haven't had any training at all," she asked sheepishly.

Mission Sub is a go. Empty Re: Mission Sub is a go.

John made sure to listen closely to the girl while he continued to lick on his cone, eyes wondering over to the guy still fixated on him. Though everytime he would notice John looking at him, he would turn away blushing. John laughing to himself, as he turned back to the girl. Taking a lick from his cone as she finished explaining whatever it was she was talking about. So she was looking for her dad? John never really knew his dad, except for the man he would see occasionally. Though he never had a chance to bond with the man, or anything like that. All he had was his mother till she was forced into working, leaving him to be taken care of by hired help. Not a very wholesome experince for a child, but he dealt with it.

Then she mentioned a group of heroes, possibly like the he was kinda one he had heard about somewhere before. They were super smart, and super skilled martial artist. Which only interested him majorly. He was of course not super smart, though he was kinda smart, but not anywhere close to the level they were. Though he didn't really care if he was nowhere as intelligent as some heroes, he was who he was. Though if this girl was looking for them, no reason for him not to help her. Maybe atleast try to help her. "You're looking for that group's help? I suppose that may work, though from what I know, they will be hard to locate." John said taking another lick of the cone.

Then she mentioned his power, and him possibly helping her? Well he could help her, if she really wanted it. Though he didn't know how her powers really worked, if they were controlled by though, or not. So he would have to make sure he knew what he was dealing with first. "Sure I can help you with your powers. Maybe even help you with a few more things if you really want me to." John said quickly pulling out a pen ,and scribbling down a number on a peice of paper he also had in his pocket. Turning it into a paper airplane, and throwing it to the guy who kept looking at him. Who made a mini touchdown dance when he thought John wasn't looking. "So we can begin this training whenever you want."

Gracie nodded and scuffed her feet along the ground as she finished her ice cream and licked her fingers clean slowly before replying.
"It was hard to find them, it took me three days to even pick up their radio signal let alone find anything that would help me get to them and meet them, but I guess now I have an in so," she shrugged lightly. She had gone back to Chicago after the rescue mission in New York, which hadn't gone very well exactly. Elaine and Clayton had both fled separate ways and she kind of hoped they were okay, maybe one day she'd see them again. Shaking her head very slightly she then watched the aeroplane loop through the sky and land in the guys out stretched arms. She smiled as the guy looked so happy and started doing a little happy dance before trying to regain his cool. She couldn't help but chuckle to herself and then turn back to John.

"Well... I can start whenever, I don't really want to ruin your holiday though. I'm an energy manipulator if that helps at all," she shrugged and then ran a hand through her hair with a frown. "I've never practised with them and I've only been in a few fights and done okay I guess..." she shrugged. "I'm more of a sit behind the firing line and come up with the plan, girl," she smiled slightly.

John smirked at her mention of ruining his holiday. It was going pretty well so far,so he wasn't worried about it getting ruined. infact he was having a bit of fun himself, possibly being able to help a fellow hero out with their power. It gave him a sense of acomplishment in a way, but he tried not to let it show too much on his face. He laughed a little to himself when she noticed the guys odd reaction to him, though he thought it was understandable. Guys made him laugh sometimes as well. Now though he would ahve to think of a way to help her with her powers. It would be hard since he just controlled the ice through thought. While she used a much more complex substance as a weapon. He really had no idea what to do now. Though maybe she channeled the energy through her body, and shaped it? he had to know what she did to use it. "I have to ask, how does your power exactly work? Do you channel tha energy through your body, or do you produce it?"

He formed a small sphere of ice that orbited around his index finger slowly, followed by a few more forming from the moisture in the air. It all happened with a simple thought, something he loved about his power. Though it was with its limitations, he loved it as it was. "If I can better understand your power, I can help you with it." Then she mentioned something about her being the plan girl, which meant she was pretty smart. Though he could tell by the submarine she had floating around before.

Grace smiled slightly and watched the man until he had wondered off down the little path, still casting looks at John every now and then. She clicked her tongue lightly on the roof of her mouth in dismay and shook her head.
"Why are all the cute ones gay?" she raised an eyebrow slightly, a ghost of a smile on her lips before she glanced back to John to watch him preform his little trick. Her eyes followed the movements of the ice and then she leaned back on the bench and glanced up at the lights that were hanging over their heads. She could feel the electricity waiting, dormant, for the time when it was their turn to shine.

"I channel it through... I absorb energy and then I have to let it go, it's like when you breath in a load of air and hold your breath, you can only hold it for so long and then you have to let it out. OR if you had a radiator and it wasn't heating but you had something hot I could just push that from one source to another, like a part of a circuit," she murmured and then rose a hand very slowly to the light over her head. A blue spark of electricity jumped from there to her fingers and went straight through her body. There was a moment and then she cupped her hands and opened them to show the electricity in the shape of a bird. It flapped it's static wings and took off into the sky, diving back into the lights it had come from.
"Huh it's never done a bird before," she murmured curiously and watched the wire before glancing to John.
