Tumble To The Roadside

Silvia looked around, panicked now that the men were back, again. They wore black suits and muttered about how it was "unnatural" for the house to have become so quickly taken over by the earth. Vines grew all over it and trees had broken through windows. They were thick all around, blocking the doors and windows and making the sunlight flow in green. Then came the rumbling. It was loud and accompanied a high-pitched beeping. Silvia knew what it meant. Something heavy and moving.

She dared to peer out the window and gasped loudly when she saw a huge yellow bulldozer bearing down on her. It stopped and the men moved out of the way. Silvia hesitated,. then made the trees move ever so slightly so she could fit out eh door. She ran from the house just as the forst cracks from the old, burnt frame split the air. Silvia shrieked when she heard the cracks. She shielded her face and watched through her fingers as her home was destroyed. There wasn't anything she could do. So she ran.

Her sides ached and her breath was in short, uneven huffing. She put her hands on her knees and bent over, trying to breathe deeply. Once she'd recovered, she Stood, shook her head, and walked to the road. There was now a small crowd at the bottom of the hill where Silvia lived. They were tiny dots now, but she knew who would be there. With sadness weighing on her feet and on her heart, she turned away and went down the hill, listening for cars behind her and hopin to catch a ride somehow.
