Personality: Highly patriotic and always willing to help. Has a strong sense of morality and respect for authority.
History: Melisizwe Qaletaqa Birjir Custudio Lincoln, born Samwise Jackson. Samwise grew up revering America and its protectors. From the soldiers on the frontlines to the heroes that protected America from threats closer to home, Samwise loved and looked up to them all. He also loved that he, as far as he felt, represented America in all of its glory, a person born of so many backgrounds, his body the melting pot that as America. At age 16 Samwise first discovered he had powers. Aside from being a 16 year old that nearly broke world records for nonsuperhumans in deadlifting, sprinting, and other physical activities, his mind and body were able to react better throughout any scuffles he was pulled into after school, he was more resistant to damage, and the kicker, he could create barriers of energy to protect those around him. Shortly afterwards he started to be a small time crime fighter dealing with local gangs in his New York neighborhood. At age 18, Samwise changed his name to reflect his ancestory, carefully choosing each name to fit what he wanted to be, what be intended to be. After graduation Melisizwe, known as Mel for short, moved on to bigger game, gang bosses, drug rings, bringing them down cleanly and always in accordance with the police. He was a vigilante but he was well liked by law enforcement and the citizens alike. Very recently Mel took on the name of Ensign, wearing a vest with the American flag emblazoned on its back and weilding a small flagpole with an eagle on its end. Now he's set his sites on joining the League to better help his beloved America.
Powers: Strength, durability, and speed are all enhanced to levels just inside of the natural human spectrum. He has the ability to create barriers of energy for protection and can overload them to cause damage to anyone foolish enough to try and close the distance between them and himself. He also maintains the ability to inspire others in battle, allowing them to fight far beyond their normal limits of pain and sustained damage, just by being present.
