Sexual Content 2: Sexual content is permitted. References and writing about genitalia and sex acts are permitted, but explicit detail is not. Fade to black, or use the dotdotdot rule. (Let's keep it PG-13.)
Violence 2: Graphic violence is permitted. Explicit description or in-game narration violence is allowed.
Despite these ratings, keep in mind that there is a limit, and you should not cross it just to garner attention. Also, resorting to curse words is also like adding senseless fluff to your posts.

Character Creation
So this thread is to hopefully improve the condition of Character Applications in the future. So here are some tips.
1. When naming your character, use an original name, nothing from a comic or movie if possible. Their real and Hero/Villian names. The real names should NEVER reflect the character's powers while the Hero/Villian name should.
2. For your Character's description and costume description, be VERY detailed if you can't find a picture. You should describe at least vague facial features in the Character Description and a full description of the costume. If you do have a picture, don't use pictures others have used. Don't use pictures of Marvel or DC characters, unless you have a good reason to do so.
3. The Character's personality needs a little development, just so we don't have 600 villians with a "cold, calculating" personality. This part probably requires the least amount of description but try and develop one nonetheless.
4. Your powers need to be described as well as possible. No vagueness. You need to tell the admins EXACTLY what your powers do.
5. The Powergrid needs to be clear enough for an admin to understand the points. You could also make it easier for us to make by putting the stats in the correct order.
6. Your RP sample needs to follow a particular story line, hopefully in a way that will actually show the admins what the character will behave like in a topic.
That's all for now, I'll add more as it comes to me.

Re: Character Creation
Oh yeah I forgot some important stuff.
7. NEVER, EVER make a Marvel or DC character.
8. NEVER, EVER make a character directly from a video game or movie. This mainly extends to powers (i.e. A character that has the same powers as Alex Mercer from PROTOTYPE WILL NOT be approved.)
9. No one shot characters. Basically, don't amke a character that won't last.
10. NO FUCKING SYMBIOTES.
11. NO MORE ANGELS OR DEMONS. Well, maybe ONE more demon.

Re: Character Creation
Thank you for making this, and Wolf, you have plenty of characters already. How about let a few die off before making a brand new one.

This isn't the place for a conversation, please don't clutter up this topic, the newbies may need it later to help them
The name for your character can be a normal name like David or Michael, It can also be exotic, like Moryuu or Kintur, Japanese names seem to be popular, and I use them frequently, what I like to do is take the basic concept of a character, i.e. Killer, Insane, Fire, Wind, Spirit, Bravery, and put it into an English to Japanese translation engine
For the description, you can easily find a picture that resembles the character you want on many different image hosting sites such as Photobucket, just look and you shall find, if you search long enough, you WILL find a picture that resembles your character, but if you can't, put a VERY detailed description, Visualization is key, picture your character in your mind, make a 3D model, look him up and down, describe EVERYTHING you see, if you do and you haven't made at least a paragraph then add things to him, a wart behind the ear, a mole on their chin, a scar on their thigh, small quirks like this
For personality, put just that, but not only that, put how your character may react to different situations, how he feels about his powers, what he will do if faced with certain types of situations, anything that has to do with how your character thinks, feels, or acts is his personality
Powers are the bread and butter of your superhero, now, DETAIL, as Slamfist said, is the most important part, but when you are making your powers, be original, don't copy existing characters, THINK, try to make small quirks, weaknesses, or strengths that may make your telekinesis different from Professor X's
If you don't know how to make a powergrid just put your points in a nice list and someone will make a power list for you
Your RP sample is just an extended post, find more information on this in the Descriptions lessons

I disagree with the exotic name part, because the parents aren't going to know the child will have super powers or the personality of the child. Some names are okay, like honor or beauty because they are actually likely name to want to give your child. Something like "Firey Killer of Swans", is not going to be something you name your child on the off chance that they will develop the ability to control or emit flames and have a penchant for grilling up swans.

Re: Character Creation
I'm just going to add a little bit. If you make your characters personality like your own, then it is a lot easier to role play with him/her/them.

Re: Character Creation
My advice, for a well developed character that is also different, try making your character of a different nationality, not just American, like I have a Canadian and a French men, and Slamfist is Australian, learning their mannerisms and posting as such makes topics more interesting.

Re: Character Creation
Another tip for roleplaying a character is to try and see things from the character's perspective. Someone who has never had a taco might have something to say about it the first time they try it. In a similar sense, most people dont immediately seek vengeance after witnessing a friend/ally die. Let your character feel some emotions behind the loss before mindlessly attacking the killer. Shock would be an appropriate response.
And what specific quirks does the character portray? Is (s)he a stoner? A drunk? Naive? A paranoid schitzophrenic with a split personality who constantly argues and disagrees with the host even though (s)he's just a figment of the host's deluded imagination? Take an idea and run with it!
But most of all (oh gawd, so cliche) HAVE FUN. The point of the site is to enjoy writing and roleplaying. If you arent having fun, what's the point?

Re: Character Creation
Can I rebuttle with, making your character a different nationality, when you know NOTHING about that nationality, kind of doesn't work for us readers?

Well do research to learn more of the mannerisms, and they don't HAVE to speak the language, they can speak part of their sentences, or speak full English Idc.

I wouldn't expect you to make a character a nationality you know nothing about.
