Motivation (Open) [1 Week Before Red Alert]
One Week Before the Red Alert
The Dastardly Dire had been lazing around in his apartment for a while. Even with the demon that controlled his life dead (like, a literal demon named Errtu), his life was that of monotony. He embarked on a regular day job, bagging groceries. Playing video games and trying to get back into the dating scene with ZERO luck. It was like the original complaint had reversed. Now, he only had a life as Malik Faulkner... His life as The Dastardly Dire was long behind him. He was kind of getting tired of it! He missed the thrill! He missed the rush! Yet... He was still in the same boat as before, and it's sort of why he quit.
He was stuck in a rut of killing. Killing was all he knew how to do. His arsenal was that of speed giving swords and guns. He killed the bad guys, but that was still frowned upon. Everyone thought him to be the bad guy. He disagreed. Honestly, he didn't care. Malik was just sick and TIRED of being seen as a bad guy when he put all of his efforts into being good. It was like he never even did anything good! No more!!!!
It was the weekend, so all he was doing was playing video games anyways. It was time to get back into the saddle. He had obviously been training in his fighting styles, just in case the reserves were needed in a large scaled fight, but he never put time into getting out there on a regular excursion. He also knew this hero world changed frequently. Hell, he hadn't even talked to Jeannie since he had gone missing... He hoped she was still around. Maybe she would see him. Not likely though. This was L.A! SOMEONE had to be around... Right?
He would press deploy on his watch, letting his cloak/jacket thingy, weapons, and red eyes materialize on his body. He would then swap the pistols in his shoulder holsters out with the special ones he got from (he couldn't believe he was actually monologuing this...) Santa Claus. One was black and red with his name on it and the other was pink and gold with Jeannie's name... They were technically married... But it was a best friend marriage... It was like the ultimate friendzone from a super hot lesbian girl... Story of his life, believe it or not... He would then teleport on top of one of the taller buildings, looking for some sort of superhero encounter.
"Come on... Something has to be going on, right?"

so back in los angels , well there was just something odd about this place maybe it's cause it was close to hollywood and the movies encouraged people to try weird stuff in them for real.
but she can never have a regular trip here, gangsters, vampires something always happens here, and her hero sense was tingling to come here again.
she wish it'd be more clear as she'd often get a remote idea of what to do but never exactly. so while wondering around hoping something might trigger more instructions from them silly voices in her head. jeannie smelt a familiar smell yay she had't sense the man it belonger too in awhile
maybe he need help as he had a tendency to get in to trouble, she followed his scent to a building, no fair he could teleport she'd have to take the elevator, so she goes to look for her friend in there somewhere.

Re: Motivation (Open) [1 Week Before Red Alert]
The heroing business was almost as cutthrout as the TV-business, and this time Bob did not have the good fortune of slipping into the whole things on a banana-peel. Back in the 90s his telepathy had been more than enough to get him into the big leagues and even though he had been a one trick pony initially, it was a darn good trick. He had been hobbnobbing with all manner of famous people, and taken part in all sorts of decadence, and the public had loved him for it! Not to mention that back then he had been young enough to handle such a lifestyle. Even though he had enjoyed it all immensely he still regretted much of it today. He had neglected his children, put his wife on the path to her eventual demise and betrayed himself, his philosophy, his upbringing and everything he stood for. But if there was anything he had learned throughout his life is that it was never too late for redemption.
However, redemption was not likely to come easy. Everything he had accomplished and all the second-hand fame he still had was not a boon, but a detriment. Other heroes saw him as a sort of 'little lord fauntle-roy'-figure. A wealthy, washed up celebrity who wanted to use their struggle for all that is good and just for naught as a steppingstone toward a comeback. Those he saved either had no idea who he was or, if they knew who he was, still hadn't forgiven him for being a sell-out. The villains thought he was a joke, and he could rather understand why. A former talk-show host fighting crime? If he wasn't one, he'd think it was laughable too. However, heroing was something he had to do. To make up for the other things he had done.
Despite all this, Bob was feeling rather good right now, as he stood on a rooftop, hands on his hips, a smile on his face and the wind in (what was left of) his hair and the knowledge that at least one person was walking around alive and relatively well because of his intervention. A young woman had been about to jump from said rooftop a few minutes ago, but Bob, with his telepathy had managed to home in on her despair and fill her with enough positivity and good vibes to convince the young woman to give life another chance. if he had an inner child it would have smiled right now. Before he got sidetracked with fame and whatnot, this is what he had set out to do all those decades ago. Despite everything against him Bob knew he was on the right track.

Re: Motivation (Open) [1 Week Before Red Alert]
Dire looked around, disappointed that no one had been in trouble when he was up on the roof. It was like life was trying to punish him! What did he do wrong? He wanted to be a hero! Of course when it came to bad work, there was all kinds... But when it came down to it, the city was safe right now...
"Should've went to New York..." He mumbled to himself as he turned around and opened the door to the rooftop access.
He could've teleported, but he didn't want to waste his energy. It still took a lot out of him to teleport... His mind kept drifting back to the demon book he had at his house. It had THOUSANDS of pages of gaining extra powers... Of course, some required... A lot of sacrificing, but some of the things were just simple potions to... Brew? He just never wanted to affiliate himself with demons again... But the threats that could take down this world nowadays may require him to do so one day... He needed to take some serious time to think before he did it though.

Re: Motivation (Open) [1 Week Before Red Alert]
Bob had decided he had had enough time feeling good about himself and decided to get back to work. Or perhaps get an icecream or something. After all, it was rather hot and he had done (one of) his good deeds of the day. And he knew that a big part of staying motivated was to reward himself when he made progress. He walked back towards the roof-access, whistling a cheerful tune as he did so. After all, today had gone pretty much his way. He assumed that he was finally cashing in that good-karma check he had posted when he decided to do this whole hero-thing after all. With practiced ease he rolled a cigarette as he walked and lit, puffing away cheerfully as he entered the building through the roof-access, wholly unconcerned with the sign that said 'please do not smoke here' when he opened the door. He may be a hero, but he was not going to start taking orders from 'the man' just because of that.
As he opened the door, he was a bit surprised that he wasn't alone. He quickly readjusted his somewhat rumpled floral-patterned coat and the tie-dye shirt that had slid up a bit above his bellybutton. There were two other people , a man and a woman, they were both Young somewhat odd-looking and sharing a passionate hug. His beatific smile grew just a little as he realized that the two of them were probably too enraptured by one another to actually take much notice of him. the only thing that somewhat bothered him was that the young man looked familiar for some reason . He could feel joy radiate from one of them whilst the other seemed to be in a somewhat darker mood. The whole istuation had a somewhat pleasant nostalgia to it, not only because it was nice to see young'ns enjoy youth, but also because they reminded him a bit of him and his ex-wife when they were back in their prime.
"Right on, dudes! Make love not war!" Bob said with a smile as he started to lean back, against the wall to give the young'ns as much privacy as he could, but suddenly he froze. he had realized where he recognized the young man from. He was a bona-fide supervillain.
"Oh no, man." bob groaned to himself as he looked at the Demonic Dire, King of murders
"Sorry to interrupt, man, but I can't let you like, continue to murder people and stuff. Cuz, it's like, totally evil, y'know." Bob said conversationally, in fact his tone was so relaxed it might as well be used for ordering coffee.
"I don't wanna like, hurt you or nothing, man." he added, sounding more sympathetic than anything
He quickly got his telepathy buzzing, not only to gauge what the two young lovebirds were feeling at the moment, but also to send out calming and happy telepathic waves. He did not want this to turn ugly if he could avoid it. Whatever that would happen, he would be ready for it.
(changed the post a little. for some reason I thought it would take place in an elevator. d'oh)

Re: Motivation (Open) [1 Week Before Red Alert]
Dire caught the vibes off of the guy and... It honestly felt good. The dripping sarcasm sort of oozed out of his body and it was replaced with a much purer form of happiness. He hoped his negative energy didn't go into Jeannie somehow while they embraced, because let's face it, folks... Weirder things have happened and Jeannie and Dire's world.
As Jeannie began explaining him away, he would hold his hands up to stop her.
"Whoa whoa whoa. Let's back up here for a moment. I'm technically not a good guy right now. I killed people for fun and for money... I went to jail, had a reform, escaped jail, and then laid low for a long while. I got a regular job and just went ahead and dropped the superpowered life for a while... I just now put the suit back on for the first time in a while actually... I am back to my original philosophy of I do the hero thing my way sooo…"

Re: Motivation (Open) [1 Week Before Red Alert]
As the young woman spoke Bob focused on her mind and just observed. She did not seem to be lying, at least she thought that she spoke the truth, however, he lost his concentration as she asked the last question Bob's face actually brightened into a big smile as he was asked if he was on TV. It was nice to be asked rather than accused about what he had done in the past. there was also something about the general bubblyness of this young lady that reminded him of the hippies of his youth. A more innocent time, really. "Funny you should ask, man! I actually was on TV, like waaay back! I had like, this show in the nineties. It was really big for a while, but then, uh. Well, I kinda blew it."
However, when the young man spoke up Bob's smile dissapeared from his wrinkly face Doctor feelgood cocked his head slightly, an orange eyebrow rising somewhat, giving the semi-retired super-villain a quizzical look. The part about him dissapearing for quite some time was true, at least as far as Bob knew, and his mind-powers did not detect it as a lie either. But he had no idea what the semi-retired supervillain had been up to in the meantime. He cursed himself about not staying up to date on these things. It would have made his job so much easier.
"So like, when you say that you're 'Doing the hero thing your way' that Does not include killing people?" he asked in a rather serious tone, 'looking' at the man's brain with his mind-power to do his best to detect his lies. In a way he hoped the man was lying, because otherwise he would have a really bothersome moral dilemma on his hands. The man was a killer and had spent most of his previous super-career as your run of the mill giggling psychopath, but now he claimed to want to redeem himself, presumably to make up for his rather colorful past. Despite how different the two men were, this was something he could relate too. After all, he was trying his best to do the same thing, He had never killed people like Dire had, but he had ruined quite a lot of life for money and entertainment, which, when you think about it isn't all that far away from supervillany

Re: Motivation (Open) [1 Week Before Red Alert]
Dire's vibes immediately dropped when the man began to further question him. This old fuddy dud was out here trying to call him a villain! Why?! They were bad guys! They deserved to die! He made sure he didn't kill people he didn't need to kill. This guy just HAD to make sure his life was a living hell... Like he hadn't had enough of hell.
"Yeah, my way still includes killing people, dude. No no… Just the bad guys. Oh, and heroes that try to get in my way, so don't do that." He said threateningly, his red irises flashing when he said it.
He wasn't worried about this guy, because it was obvious he had some sort of mind powers, so it wasn't like he could seriously hurt him. He'd fought telepaths before. He still didn't want to hurt him, he seemed like a nice guy.

Re: Motivation (Open) [1 Week Before Red Alert]
"That's sweet of you to say, sweetie, but I'm done with that part of my life, at least for the forseeable future." Bob replied with a smile, nodding his head to the woman. She was a strange one indeed, but she did definately not seem to be a bad one. 'spoiled sweet' would probably be the most apt description he could muster right now. However, his interraction with the young woman was interrupted by Dire's little outburst
Bob just sighed and shook his head in a slightly dissapointed way as Dire charged up his demonic power in a bid to intimidate him, but Bob could tell that his heart wasn't in it, but his reluctance to fight wasn't because of fear, the vibes he got from the young ex-villain was quite confident indeed. Even though he was dissapointed about how things had escalated, he felt hopeful about the fact that the young man had not attacked him. The idea he had gotten about Dire from his entry on hero-pedia(tm) was that he was ruthless and kill-happy, barely needing an excuse to indulge his darker impulses. Bob, being an optimistic man took that as a sign that his talk about trying to be a hero was genuine.
"I know you don't want to really hurt me cuz of my, y'know. . . " Here Bob paused and smiled conspiratorically and tapped his balding head a few times to indicate his telepath-powers. Despite the threats and whatnot Bob seemed to still be totally relaxed and comfortable in his surroundings, due on no small part that his telepathy would catch on to any agressive thoughts before Dire would put them in motion, and also that even the fastest hero was bound by the physical realm, but he could put up a defense quite literally at the speed of thoughts.
His smile soon faded and his expression turned quite serious crossed his arms over his chest and cocked his head to the side slightly, taking on a sort of displeased-middle-school teacher pose. and continued his little speech
". . .But like, starting up the whole super-saiyan-thing and being all intimidating usually isn't going to descalate things. I mean, like you're essentially inviting whoever you're talking to into like, the superpower equivelent of a pissing-contest. And most super-guys, heroic or not will take you up on your offer." Bob continued, now in a more lecturing manner. Even though he didn't know the heroing-business very well, he knew people. not only did he have his mind-powers, but he also had a decade-long experience in show-business, and an almost 4 decade long experience of what can best be described psychically assisted therapy
"I'm not gonna interfere in your heroing, my dude, like, you do you I guess. but think about what I said. Is ending lives really something you want to do? Like, I don't want to preach or anything, but I've lived a long life, and I know people, how they work and why they do the things they do. There aren't any wholly bad people, dude. Just like they aren't any wholly good ones. Which each one you kill, there is like, one less voice in the beautiful choir that is humanity." Bob prattled on, holding up his hands, palms upside up in front of him, raising his head a bit and smiling beatifically.
I know it's hard to be better. I'm on the same path, man. I did some bad stuff in the past, and now I'm trying to make up for it. Pay my cosmic dues, that kinda thing. It's hard to stay on the straight and narrow, so if you feel you're starting to stray, call me. Either up here. . . he once again paused briefly to tap his head. ". . .or at this number" here he paused for the second time to jot down his work-phone number on a slip of paper and held it out for Dire to take
"I'm uh, sort of a tele-therapist. I've helped people quit addictions and problematic behaviours that range from being abusive, angry, eating too much, smoking and drugs. Being 'addicted' to killing isn't all that different."

Re: Motivation (Open) [1 Week Before Red Alert]
Dire's aggressive attitude shrunk down and hid away once again as the man began talking reason with him. Sure, the reason wasn't one that he agreed with, but he still heard it. The man was passionate... Passionate enough not to fight him over it. Or perhaps he was just a lazy bum that was too scared to fight someone obviously faster than him. He didn't know, and he didn't really care. The man didn't want to fight, and neither did he. So he just let it go.
"Thanks man... I'll consider it... But, there's still a problem. There's no crime to stop right now!"

Re: Motivation (Open) [1 Week Before Red Alert]
well we don't have to wait for the crime to happen, we can catch baddies that already did stuff before they do bad again. she pulls a big book labeled jeannie's big book of bounties, and starts looking though it.
right where are we again? i can find us some that's wanted here to look for. bounty huntings better than regular crime stopping.
you get moneys for it and do something good, plus if it says dead or alive you don't have to worry about killing dire it's perfect for you. even though they are easy to move when there alive. you can help to grandpa that mind stuff might come in handy for finding stuff.
