Tube Top is, for all intents and purposes an average man. Granted, the majority of his body is not visible below his 5 piece suit; and he does have the odd scar on his lower torso, and the chord sticking out of the back of his television head… But otherwise, completely average. Taller than normal, and thin as a rail; one might be able to confuse Tube Top for a pro-basketball player.
Oh right, I suppose I should mention that his head is also a Sony Trinitron KV-1396R 13” Vintage Retro TV. But who doesn’t have one of those?
An entertainer at heart, Thomas is the ultimate - ahem - showman. Generally, the man can never pass up a chance to be in the spotlight; even if it means putting himself, and especially others, at risk.
He’s often seen kidnapping people for his shows, and sometimes putting himself in harms way for even a shred of what he desires. However, there have been times that he has shown understanding, even sympathy; however, nothing is more important to him than himself. No matter what.
From this, we begin to see the true picture of the man. Some might deem him crazy, and worthy of a penitentiary stay; however, he is, for the most part, sane. At the very least, no psychiatrist will diagnose him with anything beyond a television addiction.
At times, his display of a jovial showman will fade, revealing a deeply broken and unhappy soul who uses his connection to the world of television, and even the world of heroes to hide this fact about himself. This is when he is the most dangerous, and indeed when he is the most unpredictable.
From a young age, Thomas was always fascinated with television. Especially game shows. His family life was poor to say the least, his mother and father constantly bickering; leading to his mothers disappearence when he was 4, and his fathers conviction for her murder when he was 13. Television became his greatest escape, and ultimately his shortcoming.
Through his high school years, he would attempt to create lasting friendships, and relationships; though a general failure to understand social norms in the real world did cause Thomas to suffer severely in this department. In his Junior year, his father escaped from prison and attempted to sway Thomas to run away with him, however; Thomas simply had no interest in this and promptly called the police on his father.
The next morning, when Thomas awoke, he discovered himself in a world alien to his own. He was stuck inside of a cave, but the cave walls were strangely colored. Almost Seussian in color saturation and variety, and smelled… sweet. He wasn’t sure how this had occurred, after all; he didn’t feel dead. But then again, how would one feel dead? It was a thought that he had pondered for some time until a gigantic scaled foot pounded its way through the roof. He recognized it as He would go to bed that night, but he would not awake in his room at the Boys Home.
Thomas awoke in the Realm of the Weird where everything is made up, and the laws of physics don’t matter. Specifically, he awoke on the island of Entaria. Entaria was a small island, but it was considered at one point to be the heart of the RoW.
For years, Thomas begged for scraps from the locals - mostly people with animal features and gigantic proportions; that was until he began to mutate himself and was chosen to be the jester for the court of the frozen king. This was a keen break for the boy, giving him not only a place to stay; but a stable source of income. Up to this point, Thomas had simply been a tall and lanky individual, with very little in the way of looks. However, the more time he spent in the realm of the weird, the more food he ate from the RoW, the more he began to change. It was small at first, barely noticeable changes at first. His voice crackling like a speaker on the fritz, his eyes transforming into the classic dead air static when he became frustrated, etc. However, soon parts of his body would become invisible. His mind warping every day he worked as a jester, he became a showman.
Eventually, the frozen king came under attack. No one knows who attacked him, as they struck quickly and harsh, however; the entire royal family was dispatched in a single night. Thomas, now going by the name Tube Top, took the throne for himself, and anyone who objected to his ascendency was quickly dispatched.
For the next 2 years; Tube Top was the king of Entaria. The island was forced to put on shows for his amusement, and if they failed; they were “canceled”. Being so close to the source of energy, immersed in it, made him a god, and he knew it. None on Entaria dared to step in his wake. Except one man.
They called him Mattur, the prince of power. He was another homo insolitus, but his obsessions wasn’t trife like television or insects; no. Unlike nearly all other homo insolitus who focused so heavily into one thing; Mattur focused on pure, unadulterated, power. Mattur destroyed Entaria and sent Tube Top hurtling through the dimensions until he wound up television to face with a young hispanic man wearing an odd cloak called the Gatekeeper.
“Oh lovely. I love it when we get a fucking realm of the weird freak. They definitely don’t annoy me to no end.” He chucked a ball of energy at Tube Top who quickly ducked into a portal.
Tube Top looked around, realizing that he was home. But things were different. He was different. And this time... he would be the star!
1. Reaction
2. Agility
3. Endurance
4. StrengthGreenlight - Tube Top has the power to manipulate the images of different screens, allowing them to display what he likes. Usually whatever he’s doing at a certain point in time.
Picture in Picture - Tube top can force his way through any screen he desires, whether it be your computer screen; or your television screen. If the device is smaller than Tube Tops frame, then he will shrink, or mold to fit the screen until he’s completely free of it; where he will become normal size.
Frame By Frame - Tube Top can slow down his perception of time, and up his speed to allow for some impressive feats, such as dodging bullets, and even some energy attacks. This lasts for one minute (Or two posts, whichever happens first)
Product Placement - When using this ability, Tube Top summons a gigantic version of a product. Toilet paper, soda, chips, you name it. This cannot summon anything that wouldn't be seen in a commercial on a large American television station.
Commercial Break - When using this ability, time stops for everybody but Tube Top. Generally, this is accompanied by a few random commercials. During this time, he can’t interact with objects or people; only move around and think. This period usually lasts 4 minutes from the perception of Tube Top.
Blooper Reel - This ability is generally only triggered when someone messes up. TT records this screw-up, and then puts them into a short (3 posts) time loop where they will relive this screw-up, and any others he has recorded - with variations - until it stops. [Permission Based]
Direct to Video - Using this; TT can focus on any spot within a 400-foot radius, and see as if there was a video camera there. He can project this onto his face to share with others.
Sequel - Tube Top can duplicate himself once. This duplicate is exactly the same as TT himself, but can’t use the power “Sequel”.
Dead Air - Tube Top calls upon the power of the realm of the weird and summons a bit of the physics bending power. This attack is dedicated to absorbing the air around an area and forcing it into an energy attack - which of course looks like television static - this attack hits like a truck, and can take down buildings.
Burn In - TT forces a portion of his energy into an attack that essentially causes the opponent to cook from the inside out. Before this attack lands, a shimmer of heat can be seen in the air.
Cancellation - TT can use this ability to “cancel” inanimate objects. Essentially destroying them utterly, even down to the atomic level. [Permission Based for items listed on a character sheet]
Signal Disruption - If you remove Tube Tops antennae, his signal starts to fade. Leaving his most of his abilities completely useless. In addition, his body starts to become static; leaving him totally useless until his Renewal power activates.
Sequel Fatigue - Upon using an ability, Tube Top is unable to use it again for at least one post after the effect ends. Additionally, if he’s using Sequel; this effect is doubled for the other Tube Top.
Deleted Scene - Tube top has severe memory loss troubles. Unless something is directly recorded, he cannot remember it. This means that if he learns of an enemies weakness - or worse yet; if someone learns of his weaknesses - he won’t be able to recall that unless the ability TiVo is activated, and he deletes another memory.
Pay-Per-View - Tube Top has to be able to make a profit on any and all of the works he creates. The profit is, of course, the attention that he gets. If no one pays attention to him, he will simply… turn off for up to 5 posts or 3 hours.
Universal Remotes - While these remotes do take a moment to actually get the signal - 1 post - universal remotes can severely disrupt or even take over his motor control/personality. Each button has a different effect, with the power button being an instant coma button.
Woman in the Fridge - Whenever TT comes around, bad things happen for no reason. Sometimes things that don’t seem to fit the situation.TT is completely unable to predict the outcome of this, nor when it will happen.
Spin-Off - While Sequel creates a direct duplicate of TT, it shares his self-preservation values. Even if it contradicts the preservation of the original. This means that it will turn on him if its own life is put in danger.
Cut the Chord - There’s a small cable hanging out of the back of TTs head. Cutting it or otherwise damaging it; will cause a power failure for TT.
Glass Screen - Due to his head, Tube Top actually has less durability than a normal human, and cracking - or even breaking - his head is much easier.
Fun with Magnets - When a magnet comes in contact with TT’s screen; they screw with his personality, making him more understanding and less sociopathic.
Percussive Maintenence - If you punch TT, his screen will turn to static; causing him to become temporarily confused.
Burn-Out - If TT's internal circuitry is damaged, his powers will be lost until they can be repaired or replaced.
Not many are sure what the true origin of Tube Top is, but many say he is connected to the realm of the weird. A mystical place that alters people based on their obsessions or dreams. In this case, this would make Tube Top a Homo insolitus.
Special Guest - TT can summon anyone he wants to “guest star” in his performances. They can be a hero, villain, renegade, or even a civilian! They can also be anywhere in the world, so long as he knows either their names or their faces.
Renewal - If a piece of Tube Top goes missing, it will eventually reappear over the course of 24 hours.
TiVo - Tube Top can record up to 125 hours of video at a time, however; whenever he does so, he must delete up to 125 hours of recorded video. This video acts as his memory, which is, of course, photographic.
The Realm of the Weird is an interesting one, to say the least. The entire universe is only around the size of the United States and made up of different floating islands, the larger of which are ruled by various forms of royalty, though most are ruled by pure anarchy. Even the rules of physics take a complete vacation here. The beings that live here, are strange, and sometimes even impossible by the standards of the human world. These beings are called Insolitus, and they branch off from nearly every part of the tree of life; though the beasts hardly ever become more than stronger beasts.
This world is hard to access for a normal human, but not impossible. Bits of it can be accessed from subterranean portals, but without proper transportation, the Realm is just too large and well… weird to truly get around without much in the way that way you can in the regular world. The Homo Insolitus are a strange, and varied people. Much like the world they are connected to. A Homo Insolitus is a humanoid much like you or me, but with a catch. Around the age of 17, they are transported into the mystical “Realm of the Weird” (see above) where they are slowly transformed into a shape that much resembles their own hopes, dreams, and obsessions. A homo insolitus can take any form one can imagine, but once transformed; they stay this way for life. After the transformation is completed, they will be spat back out into the regular world. The journey through the realm of the weird causes madness in most, but not all and they generally end up joining the super world in some way.
