Sexual Content 2: Sexual content is permitted. References and writing about genitalia and sex acts are permitted, but explicit detail is not. Fade to black, or use the dotdotdot rule. (Let's keep it PG-13.)
Violence 2: Graphic violence is permitted. Explicit description or in-game narration violence is allowed.
Despite these ratings, keep in mind that there is a limit, and you should not cross it just to garner attention. Also, resorting to curse words is also like adding senseless fluff to your posts.

The Looks
The Personality
Marvin is a typical teen in many ways, when he's around his friends he's outgoing and comical, but in the presence of adults he can become cold and quiet. Marvin isn't a bad kid, but he's become damaged due to the experiences he's had to suffer due to circumstances beyond his control. Marvin has issues with authority, and he hates being told what to do more than anything else. Marvin wants to get things done his own way and resents people who try to get him to do things differently from how he wants. Marvin isn't a criminal or a hero, but since getting his powers he's felt more inclined to do whatever he wants, knowing that he likely won't be forced to face consequences for it.
The Story
In the early stages of Marvin's life, everything was good. His family wasn't the richest around, but they had enough more to buy him anything he wanted. School was easy, as teachers and students alike seemed willing to give Marvin whatever he wanted whether it was high grades, extra food at lunch, or just for someone to laugh at all his jokes in the lunch room. Growing up like this did wonders for Marvin, as he grew into a smart young man despite not needing to work hard in school, and as he entered his teens, he excelled in sports as well as in interactions with girls. Marvin really felt that he had it made, and he was grateful every day for his tremendous luck.
When Marvin turned 16 though, things took a turn for the worst; with police kicking down the door to his home in the middle of the night and pouring in by the dozens. It turns out, the easy life that Marvin was able to live came as a result of his father being the boss of one of the largest criminal organizations in the city. Drugs, Assassinations, Kidnappings, any criminal act that was committed in the city was probably done by someone employed by Marvin's father. So, when the local police force got the opportunity to take down the closest thing their town had to a supervillian, they wasted no time catching him in his home. When the police were making arrests, they didn't care at all whether someone was actually a criminal; meaning that anyone who was connected to Marvin's father was taken in, including the innocent teen boy. So, before his life was even able to really get going, any plans he had for the future were derailed when he was sentenced to spend up to 10 years locked away, starting by spending his next two years in the juvenile detention center. The detention center was a harsh environment for Marvin to spend his next two years, but it also made him tough. Marvin was used to having things easy, so now being forced into a difficult position he was forced to adjust.
The Priority
1. Agility
2. Strength
3. Reaction
4. Endurance
The Powers
- Demigod 1: Marvin is in essentially a demigod, being a human that is able to utilize powers that are akin to those of a god. As a result, he is nearly immortal, being unable to be killed by most means that would kill a normal human. This near immortality doesn’t grant actual invulnerability, but it does make his extremely durable. Common weapons such as guns wouldn’t do much more than scratch Marvin, and anything short of a nuclea explosion wouldn’t even be able to put Marvin in a near death state.
- Demigod 2: Marvin is much stronger than a typical person, being a demigod he has strength that would put him on par with the gods themselves. Marvin doesn’t always utilize his full strength due to not wanting to expend the energy, but when putting in maximum effort his strength is nearly limitless, enabling him to destroy most earthen materials and constructs with ease.
The Weaknesses
The Items
The Minions
The Fluff
- Marvin stopped school in the 11th grade so he wouldn't know much chemistry beyond that
The RP Sample
After Drayden left, Marshal's hell truly began. Drayden had heard of a revolutionary on Baltigo who possessed magnetic abilities, and naturally the cyborg man became a bit nervous. Having an entirely metal crew is definitely not the best position to be in when faced with an enemy who was able to easily control metal. So, when Drayden heard that the young man had been captured and was up for sale, he told the good doctor to prep the lab and set out to purchase Marshal. After he had finished that; his job was complete and now the good doctor was the one who had a job to do. Drayden was paying the Good Doctor a hefty sum to turn Marshal over to his side, but the Good Doctor would have done it for free. I can't believe it, I finally get the chance to experiment on a devil's fruit user, and I'm even being paid for it." The Good Doctor was supposedly trying to make Marshal work for Drayden, but he was more focused on uncovering the secrets of Marshal's fruit than forcing him to be subservient. "He'll get his soldier,"The good doctor chuckled,"If he survives my experiments of course."
If Marshal did manage to survive the Doctor's experiments, it would have to be through some insane combination of luck and willpower. The 'Good Doctor' was far from good and it would've been a stretch to even call him a doctor. Perhaps a better title for the sadistic man of scientist would be the "Malicious Practitioner." Whatever he was called, the man would still be a terrible excuse for it. The things he subjected Marshal to were horrific, and would permanently change him from the diligent, loyal, occasionally lazy young teen into a hardened, untrusting man who was forced to grow up far too soon.
Day 1
Marshal was sweating. The Doctor had connected several electrodes to his body and observed Marshal from behind the two way mirror. Hand on the switch to send several thousand volts of electricity into the body of the young man. Patiently waiting for some sort of cue to shock Marshal to near death. Marshal knew what was coming. Soon after he had woken up he saw the Good Doctor for the first time. The man was small and thin, wearing the same lab coat and goggles as before but at some point when Marshal was unconscious he had also put on a surgical mask and blue rubber gloves. "Hello child. I am the Good Doctor and I will be making your life a living hell for the next year. All in the name of science of course," the doctor said with a giggle. The bound and gagged Marshal was unable to respond, but his widened eyes showed that he completely understood and was terrified. Now, after the electrodes were attached to his body and the Doctor disappeared, Marshal could do nothing but lay there and wait for the shock to come. Since there was no sort of switch in the room, Marshall could only conclude that the switch was wherever the Good Doctor had vanished to. While he was correct, that knowledge did nothing to relieve his fear of what was to come. Though the electrodes pinching his skin were metal, he was unable to use his powers to prevent it from happening. He was too nervous, too scared, and too weak to even save himself. His abilities couldn't work when he was in that much distress, and the Doctor knew it. Part of his research on Marshal was actually to find out how different stress effected his body. "I guess I've kept him in suspense long enough." Marshal would've really preferred being kept in suspense though, anything would've been better than the hellish pain he felt seconds after the switch was flipped. Marshal screamed into his gag as loud as he possibly could, tears flowing freely from his eyes as his skin was singed by the electricity and his hair was forced to stand on end. Marshall suffered as the Doctor monitored his vitals on a screen behind the mirror, making sure he didn't allow his subject to die on the first day. Once Marshal fell unconscious from the shock, the Doctor shut off the flow.
Day 29
Over the course of the first month, Marshal had been subjected to all sorts of strange and terrible physical tortures, leaving his body covered in burns and all sorts of scars. Today, the Doctor decided to introduce a new sort of non-physical torture. He brought in a video den den mushi, and set it up right in front of the table where Marshal was bound. After keeping him on his back for so long, the table began to rise and shift from a horizontal position and moved to a more diagonal position. Marshal was now face to face with the screen, which then began showing Marshal a video of one of his earlier torture sessions. Being forced to watch himself suffer was terrible, causing him to relive the intense pain. This particular video was of his very first session, but over the course of his torture, he would be forced to watch every one of his sessions over. These video sessions usually only came at night, after his physical abuse was done for the day, meaning there was always new footage for him to relive. The Good Doctor found that by forcing him to fall asleep watching his own suffering he could keep him as weak as possible.
Day 90
After 90 days, the Good Doctor was forced to release Marshal from his bonds lest his body be unusable when he was finally released to serve Drayden. To release him, the Good Doctor came into the room while Marshal was asleep and tied ropes around his arms with extremely heavy cinder-blocks on the ends. With how weak Marshal had become, there would be no way for Marshal to lift the blocks and go outside of the short range of movement he was given by the 10 foot long rope. In the 30 foot wide room there was a large area where the Doctor can stand while staying safe from any sort of retaliation from Marshal. The cinderblocks remained in the center of the room on the floor where the table had been, which meant it was impossible for Marshal to reach the door where the two way mirror was. In this position, Marshal's torture continued, with the only change being that he could finally move around. As he lied on the floor motionless, Marshal vowed to regain his strength and escape from the lab.
Day 180
In the three months since Marshal had been given the ability to move again, he had kept his promise to get his strength back. During this three month period, Marshall had turned 17, and had gained back his previous size and then some. Now standing at an insane height of 6 foot 5 inches tall, and weighing over 230 pounds, he was much larger than he was when captured. At this point, Marshal was able to move the cinderblocks binding him, but didn't want to do anything just yet lest he alert the Good Doctor and get into an even worse situation. Unfortunately for him, The Doctor already knew. Though Marshal had avoided moving the blocks from their current location, the Doctor took note of his impressive size and knew that it would be very likely that he could. So, to avoid any sort of danger, the Doctor decided to take care of the problem before Marshal could do anything about it. Pressing a button in his control panel, the Doctor flooded the room with toxic gas. Sensing the danger, but unfortunately still unable to use his powers, Marshall began to swing his arms causing the blocks attached to his arms to be swung with them towards the glass. Before the block could even get near the glass, Marshal passed out, and the resulting fall killed the momentum of the blocks causing them to fall harmlessly to the floor. Tsk tsk tsk, poor kid. HE worked so hard to get his strength back, and couldn't even use it before getting it taken away from him. Drayden might be a bit mad that i hurt him, but he's going to love what I do after ehehehehe." Taking out a circular saw, the Doctor would kneel down next to Marshal's body, and use the saw to cut off Marshal's right arm at the shoulder. The powerful gas would stop Marshal from feeling anything, and by the time he woke up the Doctor would've already begun to replace the arm with a cybernetic replacement.
If Marshal did manage to survive the Doctor's experiments, it would have to be through some insane combination of luck and willpower. The 'Good Doctor' was far from good and it would've been a stretch to even call him a doctor. Perhaps a better title for the sadistic man of scientist would be the "Malicious Practitioner." Re: Marvin MacArthur
Hey, Mavin, welcome to Superhero RPG.
I have a few notes regarding items on your sheet. Most of these simply require clarification.
---
Regarding powers:
First, I'd like to point out that you haven't bullet-pointed Marvin's ability to generate gasses, except for the applications covered by Breathing Control and Toxicity. I'm assuming those are not the only two applications of his power. If that's the case, I have a few notes here:
Where does Marvin generate these gasses from? Do they exit out of his pores, his mouth, or elsewhere? To what extent can Marvin manipulate these gasses (outside of applications covered by his other powers), in terms of range and/or how quickly he can move them around? How much gas can he generate and how quickly?
Enhanced Durability - Please define the upper bound of Marvin's durability in some capacity. Obviously, explosions can vary tremendously in magnitude (stick of TNT up to supernovae, for instance). I'm sure that's not quite what you had in mind, but I'd like to see an example of something Marvin could only just survive with his durability power.
Explosion Inducement - What kind of range does this power have? Does it require additional set-up time to cause an explosion further away, as he forces the gasses the propagate toward the desired blast site? Please clarify.
Aerokinesis - I see this as being at least two powers: one for flight, and one for the generation of wind/wind-based attacks. I won't ask you to split it up into two different bullet-points on your sheet, I just want you to be aware that I will be counting it as two powers for the purpose of this review.
Additionally, I'd like to know how Marvin's Aerokinesis ability interacts with his Self-Control weakness. Based on the weakness, I would assume that Marvin needs to generate the gasses that he will be using for flight or wind, but the Aerokinesis power seems to imply otherwise. Please spend some time to clarify one way or the other.
How fine is Marvin's control using this power? In other words, what sort of maneuverability and speed could we expect to see when he's using Aerokinesis for flight? What sort of control does he have over the wind-generating aspect of this power? Could he, for instance, generate a lethal gas and force it into someone's lungs by wrapping it in a pocket of air with this power?
I think if you address some of the above points, it should deal with any lingering thoughts I have regarding the remaining powers in Marvin's arsenal.
---
Regarding weaknesses:
Human 1 - I appreciate where you're going with this weakness, but I am a little confused by the closing sentence and how it relates to the first sentence in Marvin's power section. You say here that potentially harmful gasses should be generated away from Marvin, but you also open the description of Marvin's powers with the statement that he generates gasses from within his body. Hopefully this issue will be taken care of when you're running through some of the points I brought up in the previous section.
Human 2 - I'd like to see some clarification on what might break Marvin's concentration, or how much concentration he must actually dedicate to the task of generating oxygen for himself. This has potential to be a very solid weakness (exploitable and significant), but it's a little hazy at the moment.
Knowledge is Power - I'm not sure this necessarily qualifies as a good weakness, personally. If there were more information on how Marvin's gas generation worked, I could see the "unable to understand" portion of the weakness really being interesting. However, if Marvin simply needs to know the name of the gas or something along those lines, this weakness suddenly becomes invalidated by Internet access. Once you've worked on the powers some more, I suggest you give this weakness some more thought.
Inhalation - How does this weakness interact with gasses that cause damage on skin contact? Once again, this weakness is a little iffy to me. However, I don't have any further notes until Marvin's powers are better defined.
Asthma - This is a solid weakness overall: exploitable, and causes significant detriment to Marvin when it comes into play. However, I see it as easily rendered moot by a dollar store dust mask, or even some creative applications of Marvin's other powers. The former solution, of course, can be easily taken away by casual power-use or mild displays of force, so I won't count that against it. And if you can figure out the creative applications I'm thinking of that cover this weakness, I also won't be counting that against this weakness so long as there's some concentration checks in play. In short, I think this is a good weakness for Marvin and likely won't need any tweaking when you're going back over the sheet.
Self-Control - See my notes on Aerokinesis.
Dependence - I don't think this is really a crippling enough personality trait to qualify as a full-fledged weakness. I won't ask you to remove it, but I most likely won't be counting it as a weakness when it comes time to check that you're in bounds with the 1:1 ratio of powers to weaknesses. However, if you can provide some elaboration on how this might actually be an exploitable and significant weakness, I am absolutely open to changing my mind.
---
Overall, I think you have a solid foundation to work with on this character. As I stated in the beginning, most of my issues with this sheet can be resolved with some simple clarifications and elaborations on the powers and weaknesses. That said, Marvin's weaknesses overall felt very rushed, and I'd like to see some more effort put into building your character's weaknesses. I can tell you have a fairly solid idea in your mind as to what Marvin is capable of, but I feel as though that hasn't quite made it onto the screen.
I'm looking forward to seeing your revisions.
Best of luck,
