The Looks

Stylistically minimalist and utterly unimposing, Katherine Yoshida is a woman of slim stature, pale skin and slouched posture. With dainty hands often buried in deep pockets and green eyes flitting from one detail to the next, the doctor portrays herself as an unassuming and wholly unremarkable woman. She makes no effort to stand out from the crowd and actively avoids having to morph her tried and tested 'look' to keep up with any trend.

Katherine's approach to her appearance is entirely utilitarian and simplistic. She cares little for superfluous additions to her attire, which is more often than not lab approved clothing, and won't go out of her way to make herself appealing to any wandering eye. Even if she is out of her standard uniform, the woman does not stray from her conservative style, generally opting to dress in white, beige and brown. With personal embellishments reaching no further than a pair of gold rimmed glasses and red lipstick, the doctor does away with any notions of attaining an aesthetic benchmark. She does, however, maintain a professional and near obsessive standard of hygiene for herself.

Raven hair, washed twice a week in cold water, is meticulously cut into a bob that falls no further than her larynx. Nails are kept short and clean, with the only noticeable abnormalities being several bleach-like stains curling around her fingertips. Stockings are worn religiously and a simple watch adorns one bony wrist, an item engraved with faint scratches and stains from previous lab experiments.

Lastly, it is not uncommon to see Katherine with a cigarette dangling from her lips. Due to the nature of her power, the woman has taken to smoking knowing full well it won't harm her like it does to the rest of the population. She simply does it to keep her occupied when her mind is on the move.

The Powers

Mother of Monsters: Katherine's most notable ability is perhaps her most vexing, one that not even she has been fully able to comprehend. By consuming the DNA of two-three separate biological entities, Katherine can create a physical amalgam of whatever it is that she's ingested. This entire process must be initiated mentally by Katherine for it to take place. These 'chimeras' are formed inside her, gestating between a period of 24 to 72 hours depending on the DNA consumed and the similarities in chromosomes. Gestation of material from two of the same species (e.g. two humans or two dogs) lends itself to a faster growth rate and a higher chance of survival and cognitive awareness from the chimera.

Fetuses develop in embryonic sacs located in the base of Katherine's throat and are expelled through her mouth once the sacs no longer requires her incubation. In total, Katherine is capable of incubating 8 chimera fetuses at a time. Often measuring between 3.4 to 4.8 inches, these 'eggs' develop on their own and only hatch once the chimera is fully formed, a process that ranges from a day to a fortnight depending on the size and intricacies of the creature. Chimeras have a survival rate of 80% after hatching but their existence exponentially dwindles with every consecutive day as their biology begins to deteriorate. Only one chimera has exceeded this expectation, still surviving after two years.

Chimeras formed from the DNA of metahumans have the lowest survival rate, with only 10% surviving after hatching. Their abilities, an amalgam of those Katherine borrowed DNA from, vary in potency depending on the nature of the original recipients powers.

Every Chimera birthed from this process maintains a mental link to their 'mother' and are fully submitted to Katherine's will. However, the longer a chimera survives the weaker this connection becomes and the higher the chance of the creature becoming rabid or catatonic.

Although no definitive explanation has been about the why of Katherine's power, several hypotheses have been made concerning the 'how'. One such claim is that her saliva possesses a splicing agent that merges the DNA consumed, effectively marinating the fused entities until they hatch. Another theory, heavily disputed in the scientific community, states that her throat is a gateway into one of the noted realms existing outside of earth's microcosm. The near fantastical nature of her chimera lends itself to the theory but no proof has been provided to cement the claim.

Anti-body Generation: A prominent ability that is present in much of Katherine's pharmaceutical work is her uncanny ability to manipulate antibodies within herself, and others to a lesser extent. Her body, being the way that it is, can immediately detect and eliminate harmful viruses and bacteria that would harm her biology and that of the chimera she incubates. The doctor has garnered a considerable immunity to an ever increasing amount of toxins, poisons and diseases and can synthesize antidotes after internally processing any typically harmful bacteria.

In addition, by consuming a fresh sample of blood from an individual, Katherine can determine their general biological state and concoct an antidote should they be poisoned or diseased. By altering her DNA to match that of a patient, the doctor will adapt the remedy to the specific ailments that affect any individual she is curing. Although the process takes far longer (1-2 days) than her own self regulation, the poisoned party can eliminate any potential virus by consuming Katherine's altered DNA. This is commonly achieved through blood transfusions or, in very rare cases, simply kissing.
