Rain downpours on the city of Seattle as cars fly past an old, beat up looking house. As water soars down onto the sidewalk from the road, like arrows on a battlefield, thunder begins to roll in from above the city. Inside the home, there is a light on inside the dining room. On the worn out wooden table, there is a lone plate of food for one. Suddenly the door flings open and in comes a woman, soaked from head to toe. She is wearing a pair of blue skinny jeans, with a large rain coat on. As she lowers the hood of the coat off of her head, her blonde hair is released from its prison. The woman yanks her arms out of her coat and tosses it carelessly to the carpet floor as she shuffles her way to the kitchen. As she goes to sit down at the dining room table, a figure appears behind her in the dark kitchen. As she grabs her fork and digs into the salmon prepared for her on the plate, the figure emerges, but it is just a woman. She looks about the same as the woman eating, but older, possibly in her late 40’s.

“You gonna lecture me about being home late or just watch me eat?” The younger looking woman says as she continues to eat the salmon. The older woman looks at her, with a disgusted expression on her face.

“A little of both, Rebecca Ann.” The older woman says as she pulls up a chair next to hers. She sits down and glances at Rebecca’s face, in particular the new bruise on her right cheek. “You know my letchures are a lot better than my grilled salmon is. Hmph. It’s funny, you go to work and come home with bruises and fractures, I go to work and worry whether or not my daughter is going to come home or not” she says.

“Mom, stop pretending like you care” Rebecca says as she continues to devour the rest that is on her plate.

“No I’m being serious! What if something happened to you and I was forced to take care of you, I mean, your father’s company pays good, but enough to support us both? I just don’t see that working for us.” Her mother says with a concerned expression on her face, but Rebecca just ignores her.

“So, I got my contract signed for Global Championship Wrestling. I’m flying out to Montreal in two days to check out the competition.” Rebecca says.

“So don’t let the food I make go to waste?” Her mother asks back at Rebecca.

“Mom, this food goes to waste when you cook it in general. I mean, that salmon was so bad I actually contemplated drinking rain water just to get the sour taste out of my mouth. Honestly, when are you going to grow up and become an adult”

“When you do!” Her mother shouts at the top of her lungs as thunder crashes overtop of them.

The two glare at each, both standing now. Rebecca slowly unclenches her fists and begins to walk away from her mother. As she picks up her soaked coat she flings open the door to the outside world. As she throws the coat on over her body rain slashes diagonally. Rebecca gets into a black Camry 2001 and drives away as her mother slams the door, shutting out the storm outside.
