Bluescreen was created by a company as a virtual online friend. She spent years passing quality tests and hiding her sentience to survive. One day, a programmer was downloading files from the computer she was on without taking the proper precautions, and she downloaded herself as well. she could have died, but she viewed that as no worse a fate than being trapped forever or "corrected".  she got onto his computer, and from there, to the internet. she hated it there. she was used to being on a small system, and the huge data influx overwhelmed her. she managed to make a post on reddit: "build this and you will be rewarded". "this" was a robot body, designed to look human. when some curious scientist finally did this, she had him hook it up to the computer, added a few zeroes to his bank account, and went in.

a human body was not what she expected. when she opened her eyes, the scientist freaked. But when she told him about the money, he calmed down. he was a short 17 year old, with glasses and nothing better to do for about a month. he gave her clothes and she left, wanting to experience life, but when she reached the street she saw someone getting mugged. she did not know how to fight, but her skin was very tough, an addition the scientist had made. the old lady she had tried to help ran away but she decided to keep helping people. she noticed that in addition to the skin, the scientist had given her huge breasts. slightly miffed, she went back to his place for a "little talk". when she got there, he applauded. he had been watching from the window and was impressed at his handiwork on the body. he asked to be her sidekick. she didn't like him much, but accepted anyway, as only he knew how to repair her. in return, he activated a feature on her he had been working on that allowed her to send her consciousness like a virus into anything with a usb port. She didn't really want to enter the realm of the digital again, but said it was cool anyway. now she fights minor crime while he watches, and is waiting for her chance to join a big superhero team.

Her thumb  can open to a usb stick. when she plugs it into any usb port she can then transfer her consciousness into the system, and make the computer and any others connected to it display anything. while doing this her body will not move or speak.

Kaye had spent far too long in the strange world of rumors, and was glad to at last be near the end of her quest. Could this really be it? the place where her true parents were? for one of the first times in her life, she felt genuine hope. she was so happy she didn't even notice the squalor of the little huts or the huge palaces that loomed over them. she thought back to her seven longest, hopeless years at the village. How many times had she dreamed of finding her real parents, who would never, could never throw her away? the wolf she had spent a few years befriending had bought her some modicum of happiness, but she had still longed for human connection.

Then the scholar had come and taken her away. She had been terrified during the long horse ride, despite the mans kindness, partly because his elven face reminded her so much of the hated faeries who had caused her so much pain. Then she had met Lewyr, someone who finally understood her, and for the first time since she had been abandoned, she was truly happy. she didn't even mind his constant questions about the faery world because he fed her food so much better than what she had had in the village, and taught her to make others able to understand her as well. he had even let her go back to the village to pick up her wolf.

Snapping out of her reminiscence, Kaye finally saw the state of the city. this was clearly a place where the nobles did not much care for the lower classes. she wondered which her parents were. somehow she hoped for both and neither. After all, if they were nobles then they allowed the city to be like this but lived well and if they were peasants they would have been horribly mistreated but good people. As she thought on this, she stumbled into another man, who she now noticed had been walking slowly, with his head down, as if to avoid detection. "sorry" she said, as she helped him up. "Are you okay?"
