INV ONLY A Totally Normal Museum Outing

Post by CaptainGrue May 20th 2020, 12:59 pm

It was a sunny day in lush Rio. The statue of Christ the Redeemer stood atop the Corcovado mountain, looking over the city and its coast. Sugarloaf Mountain and Pedra da Gavea in the distance, great columns of rock surrounded by bright green forest and bright blue water. A seamless merging of natural wonders and manmade accomplishments, Rio de Janeiro was a melting pot of culture and history.

It was only fitting that the National Museum of Brazil was here, located in the Quinta da Boa Vista park. The Quinta also held the Zoological Gardens, a zoo in the midst of greenery that held over 2000 animals. The Museum originally served as the Imperial Palace, a large beige mansion at the centre of the park. It has functioned as a tourist attraction and place of education, offering many courses to study on campus.

Understandably, it would come across to some as a shame for it to have burnt down in 2018 from faulty wiring. The loss to historical relics was devastating, and despite attempts to make perfect copies of everything there was a great erosion of trust in the museum’s ability (and responsibility) to protect these artifacts ever again. Ironically the site had been declared an archaeological site, with excavations dedicated to the recovery and reparations of everything buried in the fire.

Today was the culmination of years of work: the Grand re-opening of the National Museum of Brazil. A diverse crowd had amassed outside the museum, behind a podium and velvet fence. The curator was going over the first exhibition for the re-opening, a Mayan excavation of multiple artifacts and pieces never before seen by anyone.

Amongst the colourful crowd was one Demetri Thales, a human silhouette unaffected by the sun’s light. While this led to him sticking out like a sore thumb, the anomaly of his appearance drew the attention of surprisingly few. The existence of all sorts of superhuman made his everyday life much easier. Still, gawkers and bigots seemed to be an inevitability.

“Shouldn’t you be on exhibition, bud?” Someone said.

“I dunno,” Demetri said, “Pretty ancient opinion, though. Hah.”

Demetri moved through to the left side of the crowd, near the front. Geared up in his light combat suit, (not that anyone would be able to tell) he was keeping an eye out for anyone who might cause a disturbance. He had eyes on the crowd, with the full museum in view. The building had burnt down once before, and despite security today would paint a big red target on the building for anyone wanting to make a statement.

INV ONLY Re: A Totally Normal Museum Outing

Post by Chellizard May 26th 2020, 12:32 am

It was without question that in her top five most missed things while on hiatus was being on tour. She missed the red eye flights, the cramped buses with too many people, and the sweaty managers. Well, they weren't really sweaty. Annoying was more like it.

Local flora whizzed passed as the car grumbled it's way to the National Museum of Brazil. Sitting with her chin resting delicately across the knuckles of her half closed hand with a black and gold manicure was Tyuki Gold. She was beautiful, her reflection phasing in and out against the dark tinted glass of her window.

She had a slight tan, her skin warm and glowing from the southern hemisphere sun. She had pouting lips that didn't look like they belonged to her, and ears that poked out just a tiny bit too much. Her hair covered them for the most part, it finally back to being a pure, inky midnight black, her roots no longer mismatched to the rest of her hair. Large, emerald hued orbs watched as the road gave a wider berth and they merged into more traffic before suddenly coming to a stop.

"What's the matter with you?!" snapped a girl with a very, very annoyed and panicked tone in her voice. Her seat belt was digging into her chest, keeping her snapped against the leather seats.

Sitting next to Tyuki was another girl with similar features, her forehead a little large, but covered by bangs. She had smaller lips, but they were symmetrical, and peach colored. Large, heavy hooded, light brown eyes grew dark with that same panic that had filled their voice. The driver held their hands up in defense before laying on the horn.

"Yui, you gotta relax. We're wearing seat belts. He stopped the car on time. We're all alive," a soothing tone laced into Tyuki's words as she laid a hand on Yui's shoulder.

Both girl's wore uniform's that matched. They resembled a typical school uniform, but they were actually for the performance they were to put on later that evening. Before the show, however, they were going to enjoy some sight seeing and check out the park, stalls, and festivities that came with the grand re-opening of the beautiful museum. Tyuki's main plans were to enjoy the zoo and the botanical gardens. They had almost the entire day before the show, so this little hiccup in their travel plans was obviously not going to ruin her day.

Looking up and away from Yui and back toward the front of the car, Tyuki noticed a figure that looked entirely like a silhouette.

It was like looking at a pure matte figure with no reflective surface just, existing in plain sight. If she didn't already know that there was a chance for people like this to exist, she would have freaked out. Yui, too.

The driver, however, shouted in a very appropriate response.

"Demon! It's a demon!!"

He clicked the lock on the car and started to put up the windows.

Tyuki had other plans, Yui noticing a little smirk tug at the corner of Tyuki's lips.

A moment later and a little ping signified that a notification had appeared on Yui's phone. It was from Tyuki who had somehow sent a text message without even looking. It read, 'Ditch driver ASAP. Return here. GPS:' and there was an exact GPS location with coordinates. The same text message had been sent to two other numbers in the group chat, and those belong to the other two members of her band.

Yui shook her head, so that just meant Tyuki had to adventure on her own.

---

Ditching the rest of her band was easy enough, leaving them behind at a stall giving out free samples of Pastel de queijo. Tyuki had a portion, and it was delicious. Anything is delicious when it's wrapped it pastry and deep fried, so finding out that it was stuffed with chicken, cheese, and some sort of spicy pepper mix just made her taste buds ignite. It fueled her fire to find this mysterious silhouette of a man,

'Scaramouche, scaramouche, will you do the Fandango?~ Thunderbolt and lightning... very very frightening me!' now with her very own theme song stuck in her head, Tyuki snuck into the nearest restroom. In doing so, she pulled out a small compact device that, when activated, immediately ejected nano-machines that comprised her super suit.

It was black and gold, and form fitting. A pair of knee high, black short heeled boots donned her feet. Her hands were now covered in a pair of gloves that went toe her elbows, keeping her hands protected. She wore a thin, tuxedo style mask to protect her identity. Coming out from the bathroom, she felt like she stood out more in her last outfit than this one, but still, some eyes followed her as she moved down the street, looking for that intriguing silhouette.

INV ONLY Re: A Totally Normal Museum Outing

Post by CaptainGrue May 26th 2020, 7:34 am

Demetri’d left his camera at home, a decision to go light on his feet but one he regretted very much. The Quinta was beautiful, just as his mother described. A few birds-of-paradise from the zoo had made their way out and perched on nearby trees in the park. The framing was idyllic, the symmetry of the Museum’s entrance lined with palm trees and flowerbeds. He looked up at the clear sky, to the statue of Pedro II and then to the back of the crowd where it thinned out onto the paths that led back into the city streets. A man who’d forgotten Mardi Gras had passed by his application of face paint and floral apparel. A family leaving their car were bickering about an unfulfilled promise for ice cream or some such nonsense.

A female superhero, clad in a gold/black slimline suit heading toward the crowd. While it was difficult to properly hold eye contact with Demetri, the human silhouette was certain she was heading toward him. He didn’t recognise her, not that Demetri kept track of all the various super-people that occupied his world. She might just be in cosplay. She could be one of those supervillains, a level of threat Demmy had not yet faced.

Okay, okay… No need to rush to conclusions. She’s just walking… Straight toward me- it’s time to move Demmy!

The daylight would make it difficult to hide with trees providing the most shade he could attempt to blend into. Before he could properly determine a plan of action, as if on cue, the old curator said from behind his podium:

“And with that, I’d like to welcome you all once more to the National Museum of Brazil! Enjoy the exhibition!”

Security opened the velvet rope, and the crowd started to funnel down the paths and into the Museum’s reception area where they would soon disperse amongst the sprawling mansion. Demetri slipped into the crowd, the blot appearing to thin itself before disappearing into the herd. The increased anxiety brought out Demetri’s slowly building headache. Not great. He’d have to find a bathroom in the Museum to eclipse for a few minutes, get his cool back. Here’s hoping he was overthinking the threat the costumed stranger presented, and that he wasn’t luring trouble into the Museum. On the bright side he could hide much easier amongst the corridors and fancy displays.

The interior was lit with warm golden light and lined with beige temple columns. Statue busts, butterfly cabinet displays and artifacts held in glass pedestals filled out the Museum floor. The Mayan exhibition would consist of the entire second floor, while the third floor was closed off to the public for study facilities. A basement underneath the Museum would be filled with a labyrinth of racks holding documents and artifacts within crates not currently on display.

INV ONLY Re: A Totally Normal Museum Outing

Post by Chellizard June 16th 2020, 12:55 pm

Sucking her breath in, she let out a sudden huff in frustration. Her brows stitched together and her mouth coiled into a frown. Her bright emerald irises started to grow dark, her annoyance levels rising.

He had slipped out of her fingers, and that made her a little mad.

One thing she had noticed after her encounter with Lucius Alba was the fact that she lost her temper a lot easier than she intended to. More so that she let her emotions get the better of her.

She had always been the naive girl.

The emotional girl.

The stupid girl...

***

Tyuki stood in an empty room, her mind nowhere to be found. It was usual for her. She had always found herself losing track of her thoughts, and just idly staring off into space. Her mind wasn't lost, though. She was usually thinking about someone. A certain someone that had always distracted her. But now, now they were gone.

She had no idea who they were, but she felt a certain longing in her chest like... they were taken from her.

She breathed in deep, her attention drawing up from her thoughts as she found them resting on Lucius Alba. This man was the leader of Rise, an almost militant operation, the roster consisting of powerful meta humans who's views of the world are not exactly kosher.

He's a tall, lithe man with a full build. His face is groomed and trimmed, a light stubble across his sharp jaw. Piercing gray eyes swept all of those empty thoughts from within Tyuki, and washed them away. It was like looking into the face of a mountain. Tall, full of mighty strength, and powerful wisdom. A chill ran down Tyuki's spine. This man... he had kidnapped her. Had done something to her... her mind was off. But somehow...

Somehow, she felt...

free?

How could this be?

***

Snapping back to reality, Tyuki felt a man bump into her. He shouted at her in Portuguese, but his threat fell on deaf ears as she ignored him, pushing through the crowd. He had to have gone into the museum. It was the only thing that made sense. That, or he vanished. She would just have to find out for herself.

She entered without much issue, seeing as the museum was free - but that was only for this weekend event. Tickets were usually cheap, though, and super affordable. Package deals and year passes were dirt cheap, and it was just to support to curator's that dedicated their time to the wonderful exhibits.

If she weren't in pursuit of a literal shadow, she would take the time to actually enjoy this museum. She had hours to kill before her show, and she wanted nothing more than to enjoy her time. However, the chase was part of the fun.

***

She was falling, she didn't know what to do. She felt her stomach lurch, her head spin, and her head was pounding. The ground was coming in fast, and part of her knew what she had to do. But, she couldn't.

Time slowed down to what felt like nothing. Tyuki's anxiety had peaked, and she felt her body lock up. She was going to die if she didn't force herself to fly.

Upon her back were a pair of beautiful white feathered wings. They were larger than her. As the light danced across the feathers, an almost iridescent shimmer would gleam across them. The wind whistled in her ears as her body went into a sort of auto pilot mode. Her wings sprang open and it forced her plummet to death to subside. The sudden spring door action of her wings acted as a parachute and she was pulled to a halt. She then let them flap just once, but it was hard. As they did, it pulled her up into the sky.

She was flying.

She had found her wings again.

***

Snapping her mind back to reality, she started off down the right hand side of the museum, little arrows guiding most foot traffic for those that wanted the full experience. The warm lighting posed difficulty to spotting shadowy figures - a smart ink blot man. Interesting.

She would scan the crowds inside, looking for any hint that the shadowy figure had actually entered the museum. Hopefully she would spot something to further her search.

He should have looked at a floor plan beforehand. Demetri found himself winding around corners, looking behind his shoulder to make sure that golden supergirl wasn’t still tailing him. This was one situation he and his trainer hadn’t planned for, although now it seemed painfully obvious that something like this was surely inevitable. Each room ended up looking the same and blurred together as his head started to spin. The pain in his head was blinding, a piercing whiteness that overwhelmed his thoughts.

Still, he couldn’t help but notice a couple of kids in black hoodies screwing around with one of the displays. This could serve a double purpose.

“Security!” he shouted, pulling himself to a wall. It would be difficult for anyone to know it was him who said anything, although the cluster of people in his immediate vicinity looked around for the source of activity. It didn’t take long for two large security officers to escort those kids outside.

Feeling his way around the walls, Demetri finally found the bathrooms-
But there was a queue.
A queue? Why don’t people go before they get here?

Heartbeat racing, Demetri headed down a corridor that led to another set of stairs to the second floor. He slipped, using the wall to his right as a support. That wall turned out to be a door labeled ‘JANITORIAL CLOSET NO ENTRY’. Cliche, but it would do. By some miracle it had been left unlocked, which probably meant that someone had taken out some supplies they planned to return shortly. It would be worth the risk.

He shut the door behind him. The room was surprisingly spacious and well maintained, cleaning supplies neatly sorted on racks and an electrical mains box on the opposite wall. The floor was concrete, but would prove suitable for Demetri as he moved into a cross legged position and held his hands together in his lap. He closed his eyes and breathed deeply. White light started to seep out from the space between his closed eyelids, connected to a feeling of anxiety directly traveling from his brain and out of his body. He started to whisper something, repeating it. “You’re no different. They’re no different. It’s alright.” It was something his trainer had said that had now become a mantra of sorts.

Demetri’s skin started to release a white light, and although he remained a silhouette he was now encased by a border of light that seemed to pulsate with his heartbeat. He looked into his source of anxiety, and realised his fear came from the unknown. This was a similar feeling to when it had first been suggested he play the vigilante role. He had to abandon what his standard for normalcy back then was, and that loss hurt. Demetri feared the world of superhumans and their iconic costumes and catchy names. The mere sight of a costumed individual had sent him into this closet because once more, his world was threatened. It didn’t matter what their intentions were.

Demetri opened his eyes. Whoever was trying to follow him, Demetri now had the courage to face them. He would go to open the door, and head back out into the corridor to resume his patrol as per the plan.

Of course, whilst Demetri was having his minor meditative breakthrough in the supply closet, the light he expelled shone through the cracks of the door visible to anyone on the other side. For some, it might look like something supernaturally suspicious was happening. Especially those on the lookout for the peculiar bilingual shadow persons.
