The Personality

Indy is a friendly and sympathetic robot, always willing to strike up a conversation with a stranger. His honesty can often be unbridled and Indy is sometimes confused by emotive displays, but he is quick to apologize in the event he offends someone. He is fond of human humor and employs it as much as possible, often at inappropriate times. Overall, Indy is an incredibly genuine person.

Indy paints morality with a broad brush. He doesn’t like hurting people, but has no qualms about being employed by Argentinan drug lords (as he’s done before) or individuals otherwise considered “bad people” by their fellow humans. So long as he is given the freedom to do things his way, he’s more than willing to earn a living from anyone.

The Story

Indy’s story on Earth begins in Antarctica, where his nuclear rocket crash-landed in the 20th century. There, he spent several years attempting to salvage the wreck enough to fly away or at least transmit a distress beacon, but with little success. The only noteworthy device he managed to salvage was an auxiliary power unit from the rocket, a radioisotope thermoelectric generator. After rigging it up to recharge his batteries, he gave up on the rest of the rocket and wandered into the Antarctic wilderness.

There, he lived among the penguins, becoming fluent in their language and mannerisms within a few years. Penguin speech, he found, was not as simple to learn as he would have guessed. After his black-and-white friends began to die of old age and left him in their offspring’s company, Indy came to the conclusion that there must be more to the planet than ice and fish and flightless birds. Returning momentarily to his rocket’s wreck to salvage a radiator for use as an oar, he set sail on an iceberg and began paddling north.

As luck would have it, he ended up in Argentina. Life here, he found, was almost as difficult as life in Antarctica. Perhaps the only upside the south pole had over Argentina was that the native wildlife of Antarctica was much friendlier, sparse as it was.

Indy wandered through Argentina for a time, doing menial labor for the villagers he met along the way in exchange for a vaguely dry place to sit. In northern Argentina, he made a real friend for the first time since Antarctica. He stumbled across a young Argentinan girl by the name of Mia Garcia, in a village near the outskirts of a major city. For several weeks, little Mia would sneak out at night or slip away from lunch to play with Indy just outside the village.

In time, she was caught by her father, Santiago Garcia. After the shock subsided, Indy became a family friend. He found out that the family was staying in Santiago’s home village on vacation, and as the vacation came to a close, Mr. Garcia invited Indy to join them in the city. It wasn’t long until Mr. Garcia, the widely feared and fairly prosperous head of a criminal syndicate, offered Indy a job in his syndicate as an enforcer. Indy found the work easy and enjoyable, intimidating and chasing down folks who had wronged little Mia’s father. With Indy in his crew, El Padre Garcia became a very wealthy man.

In seemingly no time at all, Mia went from a young girl to a young woman. She and Indy remained close friends, and when Indy retired from the syndicate business, they (mostly Mia) decided to move to America, the land of opportunity. After smuggling Indy into the United States under the guise of him being a sombrero-and-poncho-wearing animatronic, the two moved into a small apartment in Los Angeles.

Mia has begun to attend university, scoring high on her entry exams. Indy, on the other hand, sits at home, bored out of his silicon mind.

The Powers

[INDY’S BRAIN BOX]
Learning Algorithms and Gateway - The neural network that makes up Indy’s mind is designed for learning rapidly and filtering for useful information. Indy is a quick and perceptive student.

Intelligent Remote Linking - Indy’s brain box is capable of wirelessly connecting to any network-enabled device, such as cellphones and internet routers. Hacking and decryption software not included (he still needs to ask for the wifi password).

[STOCK “DISCOVERY” MODEL SHELL]
{PRIORITIES: ENDURANCE, STRENGTH, REACTION, AGILITY}
Rapid Deployment Utility Cable - Indy can rapidly launch a ten meter cable with one of a variety of attachments on the end, including carabiners, hooks, and barbed darts. The cable and attachments are electrically conductive, and the cable itself has high tensile strength. The cable deployment mechanism is separated from the rest of Indy’s body by non-conductive alloys and must be activated manually (no fire-by-wire). This can involve Indy depressing a hidden switch (comes with a safety, free of charge!) with his other hand, or by flicking his wrist appropriately to pull the switch down via actuators in his forearm.

Variably Applied Electrical Grip - Indy’s palms can generate an electrical charge, with variable settings that range from a light static shock to intense law enforcement style electrotherapy to electric chair. He hasn’t tested the last option yet, for fear of draining his battery too quickly.

Titanium Armor Plating - Indy has titanium plates mounted to his Discovery model shell, protecting him from small arms fire and most standard bladed weapons.

Sensor Suite - The Discovery model shell has a fully equipped sensor suite wired directly to Indy’s brainbox. The sensor suite includes features such as radar, infrared/night vision, and a Geiger counter.

The Weaknesses

[INDY’S BRAIN BOX]
Naivety - While Indy is not a fool in the strictest sense, he does default to the assumption that everyone is telling the truth unless logic and evidence dictates otherwise. That is to say, it is not complicated to fool him once. Fooling him twice may prove to be a little more challenging.

Immobile - If Indy’s brain box is uninstalled from one of his shells, he is a sitting duck. The brain box does not include any auxiliary locomotive functions. He can see, speak, and connect to wireless-enabled devices, but is incapable of doing anything himself.

[STOCK “DISCOVERY” MODEL SHELL]
Exposed Hydraulic Lines - The inside faces of Indy’s arms and thighs have negligible armor plating (enough to prevent damage from chafing, not likely to stop a well-aimed bullet). Rupturing a hydraulic line serving a limb would render that limb mostly useless, leading to hobbling steps or stiff/dead arms.

Exposed Inlet/Exhaust Ports - The Discovery model’s inlet/exhaust ports are a major vulnerability in combat situations. Blocking them can cause overheating, with the time between blockage and overheating depending on Indy’s level of activity.

Unarmored Sensors - The Discovery model shell was not built with combat in mind, and so its sensor suite is largely unprotected. Damaging Indy’s sensory equipment and severely impair him, forcing him to rely solely on photoreceptors and microphones. These latter two are integrated in his hull, unlikely to be directly damaged except by precise blows or in sustained combat.

Electrical Vulnerability - While Indy’s shell is grounded against minor electrical shocks, such as those from low-power tasers or static shocks, it’s incredibly vulnerable to EMP events and strong electrical currents being applied to inappropriate places. His braincase is hardened against these assaults, but his Discovery model shell will short circuit in part or in whole and be rendered inoperable.

The RP Sample

Amenmesh was silent for some time. The path he led them along was different from how they entered, and as they went further down the corridors, the change in architecture and materials became noticeable. It was more modern and simplistic, metal bulkheads replacing the carved stone walls of the other hallways. The Lord ushered the diplomats into a room and sealed the door before answering. The room was dimly lit, but as Amenmesh spoke, he stepped toward an illuminated control panel and began activating sets of lights until the room was totally visible.

"It means deathmatch."

With the lights on, the Terrans could see they were standing in some kind of armory, with racks of weapons lining the walls, and a few armor stands placed in the center.

"Zisuthra and I planned for him to rule the Assembly. Megalu was to nominate Zisuthra as well, solidifying the Steadfast's lead. It seems the Heretic decided to make the situation more interesting, and his vote persuaded Megalu to nominate me."

Amenmesh walked over to the wall on his right, running a bare finger -- the tail end of a worm in his hand -- along the items there. A hefty warhammer, a wicked looking sword.

"If Ugar's priest had not cast her vote for me, it would be Ugar and Zisuthra fighting. It seems the priest, though angering the Old One, has saved his life. Zisuthra would never have picked me if Ugar and I had tied. Zisuthra must think I have betrayed him."

The Lord stepped over to an empty armor stand, peeling off pieces of his environmental hardsuit. Compared to a warrior's armor, the hardsuit was thin, though still fairly hefty. It was comprised of plates linked by synthetic polymers, with thin hoses running under the surface. It was by no means intended for combat. Diplomatic missions, friendly meetings, and ruin surveying were the environments it was designed for.

With his arm bare, the Terrans could see parts of the metal endoskeleton that supported Amenmesh's body. The worms ran up and down its length, a twitching mass that looked like thick muscle fibers. With eyes and mouths. Here and there, nodes protruded up between the worms, especially around the joints of the skeleton. They were attachment points, where a new metal skin could become part of the Ophisian's body.

Amenmesh set the exosuit's gauntlet plates down and grabbed a fistful of armor plates to replace it. It took a few moments, but when he was done, Amenmesh had a forearm nearly twice as thick as before.

"It is too late now. Zisuthra will not be holding back. I do not know how much of him I will have to kill to him to yield, but I know how much of me he will attempt to kill. I can not afford to die today, not even a small death."

With his new arm, Amenmesh stepped back to the weapon rack and grabbed the warhammer. He held it out in front of the Terrans, crouching slightly. Then, he pointed at a pair of indents in the hammerhead, one on either side.

"These are for the fuel tanks."
