The Looks

A rather plain looking man, a 5 o' clock shadow and some gel in his brown hair. Born with piercing blue eyes they are now transformed, amalgamated to reveal a mixture of a sickly green, steely blue and inky black fluid that circles about, constantly moving within. While he can "appear" like a partially pale human with odd eyes. The truth, however is much more bizarre than that, as Flynn is actually made entirely of small, tentacles with the color, shine, and streaking effect of ink.

The Legacy

Personality:
Flynn was a very kind man, once upon a time. He was a very simple man, whom led a simple life in a simple house. He was kind, sincere and quite practical. He had never let his line of work alter his perception of people, and he continually and actively sought out ways to better life for those around him. Man had called him a social chameleon, able to blend in and fit in with everyone.

After he became a social outcast because of his "powers" his perception of the world around him changed. His perception of people changed. Slowly he became to loath them, to despise them for all they had done to him. A bitter, callous and withdrawn person with the slightest tinge of misanthropic feelings for what he perceives to be a betrayal against him. Despite the rough edges, alcoholism and enough sarcasm to drawn an orphan; he remains true enough to the benevolent man he once was....but that's primarily only to those who don't judge him based upon his condition.

History:

Flynn Rory Brennen was born to Susanna Brennen and Jack McAlistair, though was raised solely by his mother. Flynn's childhood was your typical childhood with a single mother. She worked multiple jobs to make the ends meet, and the only thing he ever wanted for was for more time to spend with his mother. But life was simply, life. He had a mother who loved him, the best dog in the world and an older sister that thought she had to protect him. Life wasn't just good, it was actually very good for the young Flynn as he began to grow up; began to take studies more seriously and eventually knew exactly what field of work he wished to pursue.

Flynn went to university in order to continue his education and finally graduate to start a new life as a forensics analyst with a secondary degree in psychology. It was a line of work where Flynn saw horrible things, things that would scar people. Murdered children, terrible homicides and there was quite literally nothing he could do about it. No matter how much he psychoanalyzed or how much evidence he gathered he couldn't save the people that were already gone. But this isn't a comic book. This isn't a superhero movie, and this sure isn't the moment where the average joe gets sick of it all and becomes some form of whack-job vigilante. No, do you know what Flynn did?

He started working for charity. He started volunteering all of his free time. He started donating, he started doing every little thing he could do in order to improve the lives of everyone he could. Mental Health victims, victims of domestic violence, anything and everything that Flynn was so grateful that he never had to experience. If all his work could get one child diagnosed early it might prevent a murder in twenty years. If he could get ONE person out of domestic violence that would be a life made better. So how did Flynn cope with a horrible job and terrible situations all around him?
He became a better person.

Flynn eventually met and befriended two journalists in his line of work. A quirky, good-hearted young man who wanted to become a neurosurgeon; and a seemingly lax and awkward young man that had nothing but the drive and motivation for anything and all things involved behind the camera. These young men went by the names of Benjamin Renner, and Matthew May and while it was not the same job, they identified with Flynn's struggle of seeing nothing but stupidity and horrendous acts being glorified through the medium in which should be used in the opposite fashion.

The three of them met up regularly, and they grew to actually become rather good friends. Though eventually Matthew began to switch over and cover stories about crimes, murders and reporting on them as best as he could. Of course it came as no surprise that not too long after there was a blog that went viral. An online hacktivist created an online website that bypassed international security walls but continually shifting throughout the web randomly. It phased in and out of deep web and surfaced for only short periods, usurping website URL's and redirecting people to it's own hidden domain. So one day trying to enter google into your URL redirected you to the brutal truth behind crimes, exposing murders and throwing up completely validated theories and proof of criminal involvement, beseeching heroes to take action and watch these individuals. The website's constant continual movement and it's mysterious creator's odd ability to select specific citizens that it appeared to made it a mysterious commodity, and an even more mysterious stranger. Eventually the name of the enigmatic hacktivist was in popular demand; however with nothing to call the man there was a public surge with one name the public had granted him.

 "The Drifter"

The name seemed appropriate as the blog entered and exited at will, never lingering and never truly returning as the internet was nigh-infinite. Never lingering. Always moving...yet somehow always making itself known to just the right people.

Eventually heroic entities took note and began acting upon it, and the crimes interrupted and the crimes revealed to the public were ones so repulsive that even some stations didn't report on all of them. The Drifter became one of the sole reasons for the purification of some of the outer companies, and even for the cleansing of the three major corporations; Obverse Securities, Gene-Tech and Kronos Corp.

Flynn began to investigate The Drifter on his own, admiring his work to report the truth, even when others would not...even if the method of doing so was a legal "grey" area. Flynn had originally suspected Matthew of being The Drifter, as the article that he had once read was almost a direct quote from Flynn himself. After continuing to explore he had found that Matthew may not in fact have been the Drifter, but he most certainly assisted The Drifter in every way he could. Especially when it came to introducing Drifter to his number one business partner, Humanity.

Flynn quickly integrated himself as an ally of The Drifter and his merry band of misfits, reporting absolutely everything he could find to Matthew. Though eventually he reported too much on a crime too quick. The crime was a missing metahuman, and all signs pointed to the metahumans racist father, however Flynn saw it to be a little bit more than that, eventually jumping to the conclusion that it was in fact The Agency, the ruling power over metahuman regulation. This came as a shock, as this group generally stood up for metahumans, though continued to watch over them with a firm, but fair judgement. Flynn, however seemed to learn that there was more to the story behind the scenes.

Flynn was to meet up with Humanity when he encountered Benjamin Renner, and in his haste he arose Ben's suspicions. Ben followed Flynn when they were promptly "ambushed" by Agents and apprehended. Flynn and Ben were both "coerced" into giving up any information they had, though one of them knew nothing and the other was too stubborn to actually give into their torture. Eventually, The Agency injected Flynn with a dark substance, saying that they were trying to perfect something for one of their prized field Agents saying they didn't want to give "Daniels" a bad batch.

Ben watched in horror as his friend transformed, tentacles flying out of hid mouth as the man literally seemed to turn inside out, tentacles being ripped from his veins and black blood pouring everywhere. As Flynn was transforming and subsequently experiencing a pain worse than death, Humanity and Citizen Zero allied with Atlas and The Red Moon Rose launched an assault on The Agency base. Once within, They retrieved Ben, but Flynn appeared to be dead. There was no pulse, there had been no breath, and any attempt to move his body resulted in it to cave in, causing an inky black mess. Humanity stayed and fulfilled the promise he made to The Red Moon Rose and helped free their leader, Gravedigger, from Agency captivity.

Unfortunately for Flynn, he was very much alive. The injection awakening a latent metagene and trans-modulating him into a sickly creature of black, ink-like tentacles. Flynn was left at the Mercy of The Agency, and once his powers were realized and his spirits had been broken, he was forced to join The Agency as a "Hound", or a metahuman with powers oriented around their senses or extra sensory, allowing them to more easily hunt down other metahumans. But despite his spirit being broken, he never betrayed the secrets of The Drifter, or his allies, simply playing it off as if his small time being dead blacked everything out.

Eventually Flynn came to learn that watching the horrific experiences of The Agency caused his friend Benjamin to transform himself into a vigilante known as "The Black Chancery" a vigilante that brought judgement to both humans and metahumans of all kinds. Burdened with guilt, Flynn entered seclusion and eventually began to think of a way to escape The Hounds.

The Agency paired Flynn with another Hound, as was customary. Hounds travel in packs after all. Flynn was paired with an orphan child that The Agency "acquired". The orphan, however only had peak human sensory and a keen mind, though that was all Flynn needed. Flynn never taught the boy anything, he stayed his distance and only ever spoke to him to tell him to get out of the way, or to not screw his one job up. Flynn had become a jaded, broken shell of a man...but that was understandable.

The Agency had Flynn take his little partner out with him to investigate the murder of an American diplomat at the great reveal of the Russian trans-special power generator. Of course as Flynn began to put the pieces of the puzzle together he realized that he was not out here to solve a murder. He was out here to plant evidence, as the Hounds occasionally had. Flynn realized that the event had yet to continue so no one would have seen the corpse yet, and it was fresh enough that it would have been impossible to know that it would be murdered without having a hand in it. Flynn pushed the orphan to the ground as a bullet fired out, saving the boy's life and separating an arm of tendrils and sending them skittering and flopping across the ground.

Flynn took the boy and began to run with him. The Agency contacted him and stated that his life was never in any danger, the human orphan on the other hand turned out to be the perfect target to frame for this murder. Flynn, though later disgusted with himself, contemplated this offer. With the gun at the orphans head he remembered part of himself, and refused to be just another murderer for the sake of some security. Death was preferable than to become the monster they had made him.

The Trans-special energy source activated, but with haywire consequences. As The Agency went to storm the Area, Flynn noticed a ripple behind him, seeing a safe-haven on the other side. Believing this to have been Tether, a friend of Drifter's he believed they had found him to be alive and quickly pulled the orphan to safety on the other side.

Flynn turned out to be wrong, and soon realized that they had actually been transported into another universe, with ripples popping up all over it, allowing passage through. This world was so much different, it was younger and less advanced, The Agency was still in the shadows, and Dominus had been stopped. Necrodium was the villain and the powerhouse Chimera was not a thing that existed, the closest thing being a group known as Rise.

Now Flynn and his little human compatriot work within this universe as private investigators, often times taking on cases alongside metahumans to discover and discern the identity of particular attackers.

Flynn took the orphan and began to make their escape... but how they'd escape this mess... was a whole different story.

The Powers

Black Tendril Physiology: Flynn's internal physiology is literally nothing but black tendrils. Black blood flows through his veins, he appears pale, and the tendrils shine and they leave black streaks like ink. This occasionally makes his hair seem oily. with Tendril Physiology he actually has the ability to "transform" and become a monster of tendrils. He does not have a human physiology, and therefore cannot become sick, does not age, and does not suffer things that humans regularly do.

Psychometric Sensory: Flynn's tendrils have the ability to breach the time-space continuum as spectral figures that exist back int hat time period, experiencing events as if they had been there since the very beginning. They see, smell, taste and hear everything that happened.

Superhuman Strength: Flynn's tendrils may fire out to support one and other, weaving themselves in and out as muscle tissue, though they can augment and replicate more of themselves for impressive strength.

Anatomical Liberation: Flynn's tendrils will simply reattach themselves if they are sliced off, shot off or in any other way severed. He still has full control of these tendrils when they are severed.

Partial Regeneration: Flynn has the power to inject his tendrils into a person, allowing him to micro-manage and increase their healing factor, sewing up wounds or emitting hormonal impulses that generate a faster healing response. This power can only be used on living things with a mostly-human physiology.

Master of Puppets: Flynn's final ability is his ability to inject people with his tendrils and control their movement and actions. This power, subsequently allows him to force all of his tendrils into another person and fully usurp control of them as if they were now his new host. (Permission when used on PC's and PC's specific NPC's.)

Regeneration: Flynn's personal regeneration is not a typical means of regeneration. He does not just magically heal, his healing factor is not faster than others. This regeneration allows him to send his Tendrils out and causes them to grapple onto every living thing they can and pull them into his being, processing them and re-purposing them into repairing his damaged form. This also supplies a simple mechanic that allows him to persist even after he has been "killed" in a topic or is rendered ineffective.

The Weaknesses

The Fires of Tribulation: Fire is the most glaring weakness of Flynn's. Burning his tendrils are the only way to ensure they remain completely destroyed. Fire does excessive weakness to Flynn as the inky substance on his tendrils are actually quite flammable and will cause continual damage to him.

Anchored Strength: Flynn's strength is NOT without a cost. His strength is limited to being able to allocate areas of his body, as such his strength comes with a limit. His strength beyond that also requires him to anchor some of his tendrils into the ground, rendering him immobile for the duration of struggle.

Manipulation of others: Flynn manipulates other people and feels almost compelled to manipulate people and hide things form them in order to keep them safe or to keep them reliant upon him. this can cause several disagreeances and make him rather "unagreeable"

Just because it doesn't kill me...: Flynn, unfortunately, is completely and utterly aware of pain. Just because he is a cluster of sentient tentacles doesn't mean he doesn't feel pain. Whenever he gets hit with something and he "splats" he feels it, and he feels people walking on him, and he REALLY feels fire. Intense bursts of pain will cause the tendrils to spasm, and actually cause them to "stutter" and twitch around, or cause involuntary movements.

Alcohol Addiction in an Alcohol Immune Body: tell me that wouldn't make you irritable at almost all times? You're an alcoholic and you can't actually feel the effects of alcohol. you can't get drunk, you can't feel buzzed. Unfortunately that doesn't mean you don't have withdrawal. This is just a fun weakness and doesn't actually really count in the 1 to 1.

Salt: Salt is an actual weakness for Flynn. Flynn's body metabolizes salt incredibly slowly, and the crystalline nature of salt causes his tendrils to become rigid and nonmalleable. If he consumes salt it will react with the core of his tendrils, turning them brittle like glass, and causing them to all shatter. Eventually the salt will metabolize and the tendrils will return to liquid form.

Invitation only: In order for Flynn to possess someone he requires permission. Otherwise it's simply RP fluff.

Lightning rod: The substance on Flynn's tendrils makes him rather conductive to electricity. While Flynn can walk around electronics with no problem, Lighting and lightning manipulation naturally gravitates towards him, even if it's an ally. While lightning ins't lethal to him, it is certainly painful to experience and can even be crippling.

Protective: He looks as though he hates the kid, but truthfully his companion and fellow "Hound" is alright for a human. He's incredibly protective of them and had no problem "crossing the line" if it means to protect them.

Obsessive: He is obsessed with a way to return to being a human. he wants for nothing more than to return to being a regular human being. He will do anything to be human again, or it will at least cause great mental and emotional dilemma for him.

Disorienting Psychometric reading: It can be incredibly disorienting for Flynn to be able to search through the past as if he had actually been there, as he experiences all time periods simultaneously. As such this type of psychometry makes him oblivious to the present time and takes a great deal of time to preform, unlike many other variations of this power.

Musical inclination: He loves music, and depending upon the type of music he is listening to, the tendrils may start to subconsciously dance to the beat, this can be awkward to be listening to hear "Turned down for what!?" and then tendrils split out of his back and start flailing around and throwing stuff. It's also incredibly distracting when you're trying to react to a quick attack with calming music around.

Historically Inaccurate: He is painfully oblivious and gullible when it comes to "historical events" as a result of him being from a different universe. In his universe Atlas was a vampire, Necrodium SAVED New York from his half-sister Paine and The Agency destroyed Dominus to help integrate metahuman acceptance. Hearing that Dante Allighere from another dimension is a clerk at a pawn shop for an eldritch horror is not exactly alarming to him. Unfortunately telling him that lilopops are made of orphan tears and that eating cow testicle is common is also something he would believe. He's also be willing to believe that Misaki is a virgin.... shot's fired foxy lady. Shots fired.

Inhuman: Flynn is inhuman and it can actually be quite obvious at times. His veins turn black and become visible when he's angry or excited, his eyes are a very good indication that he's not human and the fact he's pale and will randomly start leaking black fluid for no reason is also a rather good indication

Frenzy: Murder goes against the fiber of Flynn's being, unfortunately Flynn is a rather different person than he used to be. Blood to his tendrils has a similar effect to drinking alcohol. In conjunction with a previous weakness it only amplifies the fact that when he DOES hurt someone or when he DOES kill someone it could potentially be incredibly difficult to dissuade him.

Stigmata: Stress of any kind in an excessive degree will cause Flynn and anyone infected with his tendrils to cry black blood, will cause inexplicable wounds on the hands and feet.

Consecrated Casualties: Flynn is unable to harm men and women of faith so long as they bear a symbol of that faith somewhere on their person, be it a totem, talisman, cross or beads. The faith itself does not matter.

the break of Daw-ah crap I'm blind!: Flynn's tendrils react to light, though this is not inherently beneficial or malignant it does present a problem when bright flashes of light suddenly spark. The tendrils seize up and become defensive, however it can distract them from whatever they had been doing previously, leaving him open.

The Nature of Power: The nature of this power is unknown, even to Flynn. All that is certain is that slowly but surely Flynn had adverse reactions to certain areas, and that slowly but surely Flynn is starting to slowly act less like himself.

"Caust"ly Regeneration: Certain creatures are considered to be toxic or "caustic" when Flynn attempts to use his regeneration. Cows are one such toxin, Doves are another, Lambs are caustic to his being, as well as Pigs, Monkies, Wolves and Elephants. Taking these things into his system will in fact help him regenerate, but the regeneration will be over ten times slower AND will cause several symptoms of vomiting, dizziness, and a lack of control of any tendrils that leave his "immediate self"

The Mechanics

Addictive: the substance that coats his tendrils and what his tendrils seem to be made of are actually incredibly addictive, there is no "natural cure" for an addiction to this substance, though is simply an RP mechanic
