War Hawks (an idea for the purge)

Spoilers: If you haven't read Marvel Civil war and don't want to know a major plot point turn away now.


Greetings, Kasai Rex here. The upcoming arc as illustrated by the wonderful Inkblot, is a concept that Has been done before, poorly. In 2005 Marvel released a series of comics called the Civil War. After a superhuman had used his powers to explode like some sort of human bomb, and destroyed an entire town, the epicenter being at a school. at 10, on a weekday. Kids died. Then in the aftermath Tony Stark, AKA Iron man had forced a bill through congress to force all those with superpowers or a power suit to register with the government, allowing for pay, vacation and free health care. A raw deal, I know. Captain America, an agent working for the government, created by the government and having spent almost his entire existence working for or with the government, apposed this. Hilarity ensued.

The comic, in my opinion at least, was not very good. it felt stiff and a lot of fairly meaningless politicking going on with personal opinions derailing the thing at several key moments. but that's not what I want to talk about, What I want to talk about is a saving grace of the book, a revival of the Thunderbolts, the marvel equivalent of the Suicide squad.

Those who know who the Thunderbolts or Suicide Squad are know where I going with this. For those who don't, here the gist. The government offers full pardons to hyperpowered scumbags who are otherwise rotting in prisons to engage in highly dangerous missions that would probably mean death for those involved. Explosives would be tied to their wrists, with only the top two in charge persons being able to undo the straps. If they attacked a superior, explosive would detonate. If they wondered out of the specified area, the explosive would detonate. you get the idea. the reason why they would do this, makes sense. Why risk the lives of Soldiers when super scum can do it better and easier. And when it comes to stomping out unregistered heroes, who better than people who could almost take them out on their own, but now with back up.

This idea is perfect for the purge. As we have tons of villains, renegades and other less-than-savory persons running about. All of whom have Desires for vengeance and hatchets to bury in skulls. Combined with the incentive of pay and pardons, an idea works for just about every one. So I propose a small group of scum to help with this. The War Hawks. Our Thunderbolts. Our Suicide Squad. What do you think?

Sounds neat. Not sure to which characters this could apply though. Still, I'd say this is worth considering.

The upcoming Purge arc isn't like Marvel civil war.Dominus is trying to exterminate metahumans as a threat in general not establish government control and regulation.They're really only using metahumans as a means of a method to combat their targets.Besides every superhuman that doesn't work for dominus is a target regardless of their allegiance.The closest thing to the thunderbolts you could get would be those willing to work for dominus in exchange for their lives.

I don't think so. The sysnopsis says at the very end that, "Eventually metahumans will be authorised (I think he means 'forced' here) to register their names, abilities and other vital information and join Dominus. If they refuse to do such thing they will be hunted down by any means necessary."

But even if this is not the case, then have Dominous lie. "yeah well pardon you, if you work for us." then when the job is done, all you have left is villainous giblets. Save for anyone smart enough to have fudged with the Explosive bracelets, hell, that might even be more realistic. it still works.

I would be interested! I haven't had much to do, and Lumberjack sounds like the right kind of person for this, I think? I don't follow 100%, but I do get the idea here. This sounds fantastic.

Have you asked the maker of this arc inkblot and leader of Dominus if you could even start this group? If not it won't be allowed.

Making a group and having it affiliated with a major organization without first consulting the owner of Dominus is a no-no.

Make sure you properly ask Inkblot about it.

I'm sure a PM sent his way would make this situation easily fixed.

Well, fair enough, this thread was mostly to see if the idea had any staying power. I mean if every one else told me "This idea Sucks, get rid of it." then I wouldn't waste any one time with it. as for the reaction so far, well, it seems to be just kind of meh, so I'm not really sure If I want to move forward with it.

If your idea has been slightly discouraged due to simple reasons; such as the simple fact that you have to ask another major organization's leader, Inkblot, if you can associate them with Dominus - then that's a silly reason to become meh with it and "give up."

Inky's a nice guy, and if you like this idea enough, and you can give him good enough points to have this group associated with Dominus for the Purge, I don't see why or why not it could or couldn't be associated.

I expressed no actual opinion on your idea.I was merely stating that the upcoming purge arc is not a ripoff of marvel's civil war arc.It's more of an extermination attempt and only those who assist in it by joining Dominus are the ones that would be allowed to live.

You really should've first consulted inkblot on this idea.Would've been better than anything else.

Uhh, sorry? I thought the purge was still in the developmental stages, and the story could still be molded any way fit. as for opinions, I think I might have not gotten the correct idea across, I'm talking about interest in the group as a plot device. To be honest, I react to the (Mostly in terms of numbers of) replies given here as more of a "This idea has no bearing on the plot on hand, therefore is more or less superfluous." rather than "I like/hate this idea."

This topic was set up as a litmus test to see the general reactions of people, I usually plan a post in advance, so why should iIwaste time on a story that requires a plot devise I can't use?

Also, I will respect the wishes of the artist masterminding the project; if the story master says no, than the story master says no. It's his story arc, and I will not force the issue for my own yucks.
