Cooldown Exploits Empty Cooldown Exploits

[I had intended to copy and paste the conversation here, but my PS3 is being a dick]

Basically there was a dispute in the chatbox over cooldown exploits, such as having two separate Invisibility allocations with separate cooldowns, so that one never has to be visible. The same with teleports, having 2 separate teleports with separate cooldowns.

The problem came from the fact that this completely defeats the purpose of cooldowns.

I think a rule should be made to only allow one power that does the same thing. (1 teleport, etc)

I will use my character Deluge for an example. He has two teleportation powers, and those powers are part of the character. One that allows him to move through water and the other through ice. Teleportation through seperate mediums is different than just double invisibility but it still takes advantage of the cool down rule.  They would technically be seperate powers, since they require seperate mediums to activate, yet achieve a similar effect.

Okay here's the gig man. Rules change, but I'm pretty sure this one remains pretty consistent since I was a somebody (staff) around here. I was taught/took the philosophy of this...

   There is only ONE teleportation spell allowed to avoid the constant trolling.

   There is a ONE Intangibility ability, and you would be allowed one "pseudo-intangibility" (I.e turning into water. dubed Pseudo because while turning into water makes you immune to most forms of damage good luck if you get zapped by electricity. Electrolysis is a jerk. SCIENCE!!!!)    
   long story short? One intangibility where you cannot be affected and one "intangibility" where harm can still come to you in some reasonable way at maximum, and one of these needed to have a longer cooldown so you cannot just be intangible all the time.

   If someone wants to put points into an invisible character, let them. They're wasting precious points that could be allocated on other stats AND Invisibility is easily countered by anyone who has any form of enhanced sensory because being invisible is not making you unable to be heard, smelled (I don't know why you'd try this but:) taste or felt. Invisibility is also not a guarantee protection from an attack that covers a small area, or people who have things like X-ray Vision, like Shoona da Sun Queen.

   Ultimately I just want to say that THE STAFF KNOWS WHAT IT IS DOING If they see something that can be abused like this they will take corrective action.

I think it'd be just as well to scrap the rule entirely, if it's limiting character creation to the point people are inventing workarounds. Either way I think it should either be enforced or done away with otherwise it's there for no reason but to make things more confusing.

Edit: If powers are similar, but functionally different in some way. (such as teleportation restricted to a very specific medium as mentioned above) I consider that two different powers, since affected targets are different.

Maybe Deluge's teleports could share a cooldown. If he waterports, then he has to wait a post to waterport or cryoport.

We COULD scrap the rules if we believed people would RP just for the fun of RPing and not trying to become SHRPG God..... I like my job JUST KIDDING! Chelle please don't smite me.

Ultimately this is Chelle's Forum, and her rules exist for a reason. I know Chelle and I know that this is all being noted and she's going to reflect on everything said. But I'm not 100% sure everyone could be trusted in a free rule-less system.

Rules exist.


People try to exploit the system all the time.


Pat's powers are fine; they are two different kinds of teleports, and are literally RP mechanics that play off of his character.


I handled the issue in the C-Box.

Double Intangibility won't work, cause dodging all the time isn't fair.


Invisibility, if you want it to be constant, will now cost 8 ABI. No cool downs between uses.

You are, however, suffering from being able to be heard.

Even if you scratch your nutsac, or breathe softly.
