Wealth at the start
I know I'm new and I hope I don't offend anyone with this suggestion.
While looking through the wealth aspect of the game (in particular regard to having a base at start) I realized that doing so would prevent me from attaining a 38 pt grid. The simple solution I thought of would be to allow characters to buy those points like wealth with the caveat that the points gained in this way wouldn't be allowed to buy stats above 8. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Re: Wealth at the start
Forgot to mention this but; this would basically be the same as starting with your regular way of doing it and buying whatever level of wealth you chose. This would prevent the penalizing effect of starting w/wealth.

Re: Wealth at the start
Actually wealth and power points are separate. While they cost XP you can have a full grid and still buy wealth. I guess I could be mistaken but it seems pretty clear here: http://superhero-rpg.forumotion.com/t4964-power-point-shop-grading-scale-experience-template?highlight=power+point

Re: Wealth at the start
Right and that's the problem, the conversion only works one way. So any concepts that require wealth shaft you if you play long term.
For instance if I put in 2 points into wealth the furthest my grid can get at that point is 36 not 38. Adopting the above system allows me to start with 3 wealth and then effectively buy up to the starting grid without a penalty. Then following the standard pattern finish with 38 points so it would look something like this:
1st point (replace wealth) 10 points (point spent cannot bring a stat higher than lvl 8
2nd point (replace wealth) 10 points " "
This brings your character to the starting level
Which follows the rules that you linked to ultimately allowing a full 38 point grid

Re: Wealth at the start
All it's really doing is letting you buy your wealth at character gen instead of during play and there not being a penalty for doing so.

This is how points currently work: http://superhero-rpg.forumotion.com/t5263-power-point-shop-how-to-convert-grading-scale-experience-template I'm pretty sure you can have a full grid of 38 and still buy wealth points, because wealth and power points are totally separate.

Re: Wealth at the start
Think you're missing the point...
Yes they are separate things. During character creation you can spend part of your grid on wealth. The current set up is those points are lost. My post was just an idea for a balanced way to reconcile that particular issue so that characters that want to start with wealth aren't put at a long term disadvantage. Thanks for the responses though.

Re: Wealth at the start
Now this is a good point you bring up, though it's more of a technical thing than an RP suggestion. For my part, if I believe a character is rich, I will RP them as such and spend the first XP I earn with them on actually attaining the wealth. Wealth itself allows INT characters to attain certain items that they wouldn't be able to otherwise (ala, a jet). Since I myself find it simple to attain 10 XP in a thread, I don't really see the issue. Those are just my two cents though. Also, I welcome you to the site once more.

Re: Wealth at the start
^ What he said.
I get what you mean about it "shafting you" at the start, but it's preventing people from buying their 8th PP for 10 XP by rearranging their stats (Wealth being a stat that's "technically" rearrangable).
Wealth points cost 10 XP per point; no increase in cost for the points in wealth are enforced.
However, to get a full 38 point grid, your character must spend a total of.. 250-280 XP.
That's a lot of words.
But, here:
Wealth
0: Homeless, barely getting by.
1: Basic home and lodging; enough money to live comfortably. <-- Everyone starts with this; No points needed.
2: Low Millions.
3: High Millions.
4: Low Billions.
5: High Billions.
Each point in wealth costs 10 XP, but can also be bought with your initial pool of powerpoints at character conception. This, of course, will affect your character's stats negatively, because wealth points bought this way cannot be refunded in any way and will have depleted your starter pool.
But, you can buy wealth separately from your main point pool later after you've gained EXP, and thus, your character will become one wealthy man or woman.
THIS PART >>>>
[20:12:07] @ Chellizard : If you don't have the wealth, you can't get the items; but if you have the wealth, get the items, and then decide to put that point back on your grid and spend EXP on the wealth, it's basically like giving yourself free money.
[20:12:14] @ Chellizard : Because you could be on your 8th PP
[20:12:18] @ Chellizard : and you spent 1 point on Wealth
[20:12:28] @ Chellizard : So you say "Hey, I wanna put that Wealth point I spent on my actual stats"
[20:12:36] @ Chellizard : So they'll do that, and then buy the Wealth back for 10 EXP
[20:12:48] @ Chellizard : So they just got their 8th point for 10 EXP instead of 45 XP
[20:13:10] @ Chellizard : So, no.
[20:13:25] @ Chellizard : You cannot refund Wealth after you've purchased it for this system.
<<<<
is the part I want you to pay attention to n stuff or w/e I guess.
I apologize for any inconvenience you've encountered.

Re: Wealth at the start
No worries it's not really that huge of a deal but it does make it so I'm personally not super inclined to start wealthy so I'll just work it into the first type of thing I buy when playing that type of character. Thanks for all of your input and the welcome I've received.

Yeah. I've been thinking over some things on Wealth. Once I talk it over with the rest of my staff, I'll get back to you with my idea. (:
